If you want local color and the true Picture of this newest country in the world. You have to go to the local market. Since photography is not officially allowed, you must get permission and those around you will probably allow you to take some photos. Much to just wonder at. The people are very poor and struggling to make this a democratic system but many blocks are in the way. If you are a tourist you can take the motorcycles to the market from your hotel always ask your hotel for someone reliable. It is better than spending $50 on a ride. This is not a tourist destination it is a country that is dangerous if you go outside of the boundaries of Juba. Listen to the owner, yet these people are so very kind and curious to know you. If you are working there, then you will have some rules for security reasons. As a traveler-enjoy!

This is the main market place and probably it is the most busy place in Juba. You can buy all kind of goods and services here starting from groceries to electronic goods. The place is very crowdy and you need to be careful while in the area. You can buy everything cheaper than the supermarkets (probably half of the supermarket price). You even can buy fresh chicken process after you order. It is difficult to resist the attraction of fresh fruits and vegetables while you visit the place.

Konyokonyo market is one of the largest markets in Juba, the capital city of South Sudan. It is located in the Konyokonyo neighborhood, which is in the southern part of the city. The market is known for selling a variety of goods, including fresh produce, electronics, clothing, shoes, and household items. However, the market has been affected by the ongoing conflict and economic instability in South Sudan. In recent years, the market has faced challenges such as inflation, which has made it difficult for vendors to afford the costs of importing goods, as well as a decline in the purchasing power of customers. Additionally, the market has also faced security concerns, such as theft and violence, which have prompted some vendors to close their shops or reduce their hours of operation. Despite these challenges, Konyokonyo market remains an important hub for commerce and trade in Juba, and it continues to serve as a vital source of livelihood for many people in the area.

One of the oldest market which was first created by traders from Bör and Bari. Konyokonyo offers all sorts of household and business merchandise at cut-throat price. Arabic Juba is a unique language most spoken by traders and customers. It’s a one stop shopping complex. Besides the nuisance boda boda riders, and rakaha notorious riders causing unnecessary traffic jam, the market is an epicenter between eastern and western bank of River Nile. It’s very close to dry fish market near Intra Africa Hotel and El Haj Tahir Bior’s restaurant and garage. Konyokonyo name is driven from Bör word, “Kony “, meaning to ask back your debt from the borrower. It’s 1km to Juba bridge.
