This place was amazing!! Smaller than expected but packed with so many amazing things! Our 8 year old daughter and I, along with my husband, all enjoyed the day. Getting to see the dinosaurs was the best part. We also did the butterfly exhibit, which was amazing. You pay $8 for the butterflies and get a 30 min window for the instruction, time inside, and then making sure that no butterflies are on you as you exit. The gift shop in the butterfly exhibit was expensive. I recommend buying souvenirs inside the main museum because they are cheaper. This was seriously one of the coolest things I’ve seen. As long as you enjoy history and such, you will love it.

Great museum so much to see, a little hard to do all in one day with little ones mine got cranky by nap time. stroller is a must. You can purchase tickets online or at the door they do ask for covid vaccine card and ID so make sure to have handy. Parking is $20 If I remember correctly, $15 for entrance and other exhibits do have an extra cost. Don't forget to visit the science center next door (free) and relax in the rose garden. Totally recommend

Truly delighted by the experience, the museum was very complete and the wings/expo areas very well cared and with much much of information about the matter at hand. The prehistoric wing is a museum-classic and a must to visit, it includes lots of information and actual-size skeleton build ups of dinosaurs and prehistoric mammals... all expositions were complemented with much side educational information. The venue has ample parking space however I'd recommend to go there early as the lot may get full very fast. In case you visit the place with a senior person, you can ask for a complimentary wheelchair and everyone will assist you. Will visit the place again whenever I'm back in the area.

This was an amazing museum! The mineral exhibit was one of the coolest I've ever seen and worth going to all on its own! They also have a gem room which was also pretty cool. On top of those things the dinosaur fossils are very well done and extremely cool! One of the better exhibits I've been to. We spend a couple hours just on those things alone and they made the price of admission worth it! We also had a small snack in the Cafe which was pretty yummy. Overall I highly recommend if your looking for something indoors to do in the area.

All of a sudden I love dinosaurs!?! I didn't think this would be a favorite for me, but the museum is curated so well, and the architecture is so good, that it's my new favorite. The exhibits of animals are amazing. I'm not usually a fan of taxidermy, it usually feels kind of creepy, but they are done so well at this museum. They're life-like, with such amazing detail, and the way they're set in the environment makes it feel as though you're looking at them in their natural environment. There was also a multimedia exhibit on Los Angeles under water that was really cool, with video and maps of where goals have been found. An exhibit of the history of Los Angeles was really well done as well and was engaging. Lots of interactive stuff in the Lab area for kids, and the ground are beautiful too. I probably spent about 4 hours here, and while it was enough time to see everything, I wish I had more time there.

Been here several times and will definitely be back again. Very cool dinosaur skeletons, breathtaking from their size. A lot of unique exhibits. Great game room where you can see various live insects in aquariums. Very interesting place. After 3 pm admission is free for residents. Parking lot is large, cost is $15.

We got there at 4PM and the tickets were half price! The museum closes at 5PM but we were able to see everything we wanted to see in one hour. It was a Sunday so it was pretty empty as well. I will definitely be doing the same another time.

Super interesting and rich museum. Their exhibition about dinosaurs is incredible! We bought the tickets ahead of time so we did not have to wait in line. Parking is challenging; we got lucky in finding street parking around the block.

I will suggest arriving when it opens to beat the rush. We arrived around 10:00a.m & were done by around 1:00p.m and it was perfect because it was so congested by the time we departed. Bring a reusable water bottle as they have refill stations throughout the museum. Great educational experience for all ages and a quick and easy way to tire out your toddler! Wear comfy shoes because it is quite a bit of walking! Oh yeah and educators get in for free as well as discount at the souvenir shop when providing teacher I.D!

7/21/2023 The dinosaurs were pretty cool. I feel like the price is a bit high for the number of exhibits but overall we had an enjoyable time. The rose garden outside had many homeless sleeping in the middle of the grass, that seemed a bit odd, not really the museums fault just something that I affected my experience.

I took my son to the Natural History Museum last weekend. They were having their annual Bug Exhibit! It was so interesting to see so many kinds of bugs! We loved learning things we didn't know before, even if some of the creatures are creepy! There were vendors selling all kinds of bugs, wares made from bugs, edibles made from bugs and t-shirts! We invested in some silkworms which are very hearty eaters!!! They only eat one kind of leaf, mulberry. Any other leaf will kill them. It will be exciting to see when they begin to spin their silk! We we're even able to walk in the edible garden afterward and saw some more wonderful things growing there. We can't wait for next year to see it again. As always a trip to this museum isn't complete without a walk in the Rose Garden on the way back to the parking structure!

Prepare for hordes of sick families who insist on coming to the museum when they shouldn’t. Other than that, it’s a fun way to spend an afternoon. Also enjoyed the mineral and gem exhibit. I’m sorry to say that the Dino Store was a little lacking and a lot of things don’t have prices. Only grabbed a t-rex skull sticker from the gift shop.

Great museum for families to see dinosaur bones. The mineral room is fascinating. We did not think we would like the dioramas with all the stuffed animals but they were very well done. Well worth a visit.

It is a museum that is easily accessible from downtown LA and can be visited with the family. The vast array of excellent exhibits that match special themes captivate our hearts. In particular, the high quality of the dinosaur exhibits leaves viewers amazed. Well-planned routes and major facilities help ensure a pleasant viewing experience. Be sure to visit!!!

This place has been the most amazing natural museum I ever been. It’s amazing all the fossils they have, it’s really interactive the museum if you come with kids, they explain you very well the spots. The architecture of the museum it’s insane, it’s so beautiful. A highlight its if you live in LA the entrance it’s free, so come with your ID, you only will pay the parking, that’s fantastic!!

This is one of my all time favorite museums, and that’s saying a lot because I’m a big museum fan. I grew up in the Los Angeles area and this museum fascinated me as a child. The North American and African Mammal Halls are completely captivating. I have lived far away for many years but we love coming when we visit, it is a favorite now of my children as well. The addition of the dinosaur and ice age mammal halls are so well done and the outdoor grounds are delightful. It’s a magical place.

Museum has had many upgrades since the last time I was there. There are three floors of exhibits, so plan to explore for a few hours. Many of the exhibits are interactive and make great learning experiences.

First time visitor and absolutely love this place. There's a variety of exhibits to explore and discover. The layout of the museum is such that there is no one way or "right" way to explore, and you may even find yourself wandering into different exhibits without planning to! The plaques are informative and their fossils collection is extensive. I appreciate how the plaques will showcase which part of the models are real fossils and which bones are recreated. From gems, to dinosaurs, bugs, mammals, birds, dioramas, gardens, there's so much to explore. I recommend getting in early! I did not get to visit the entire museum within my time there, and I will definitely be back.

This is one of the best natural history museums in the nation. My son loves dinosaurs and literally it was his playground for hours. Plenty of fossils and skeletal structures. Endless animal history to view, including a 3D film (a bit outdated but so be it). What's even more amazing is the outdoors garden. Do not forget to take a walk around the museum with plenty of flowers, plants, bees and butterflies to wander through. We had a fantastic time here. Definitely worth the ticket price.

This was my 1st time to the museum. The exhibits are awesome and the staff is amazing. We paid extra for the Dino experience ( I only recommend this if you have young children), and the butterfly pavilion.. the butterfly pavilion was amazing and the time inside was perfect. My only disappointment was lunch. I thought $80.00 for 4 was a bit high for the quality of food.my wrap was rather bland lacking much substance. My nieces chicken sandwich was dry and the fries were cold. The BBQ chicken pizza was surprisingly delicious as was the salad. Overall a great day.

Absolutely loved this museum. It's perfect to spend the day roving through its various halls. The dinosaur and gem and mineral halls were my favorites and were simply amazing to see all the artifacts and collections. The building itself is quite beautiful and interesting to see such classic architecture. My only complaint is the lack of a true onsite restaurant, as they only have some food trucks to cater to patrons. I much rather have the food court style offerings of the museum of sciences next to this one.

AWESOME EXHIBITS! A kind volunteer talked to us for a bit and let us pet a real coyote pelt. Clean and well kept. I would highly recommend the African mammals exhibit. So many amazingly taxidermied animals in 3d exhibits which feel almost like they’re there in real life. Will be returning for the spider exhibit very soon 😼

A great place to bring your family, date or just come alone for the day. It's easy to spend the entire day there because there is plenty to see. Would really take a week or more to see everything thoroughly. Buy lunch there or have a Picnic as we did on the lawn. The Museum is very clean and beautiful including the outside grounds which is like a park setting. The bathrooms are also open, very nice, clean and well supplied. The Butterfly Pavilion is amazing and you will experience close encounters with live butterflies which may land on you but be very careful not hurt or step on them. You will need advanced reservations to enter this exhibit. The end of day came pretty quick so I couldn't get pictures of the Gift Shop or Rose Garden.

It's one of the biggest museums around here. You can easily be here for few hours. Even though there's not much to see here besides the gem room and becoming Los Angeles exhibit, a very very confusing layout of the building. And way too many little kids running around without supervision. If you're still interested in coming here don't forget to check out the second floor. Proof of vaccination and ID required, no masks inside. Free admission from 3-5 and free daily for California EBT card holders.

It was closed when I visited due to Corona. This museum is in the same area as the California African American Museum and other interesting tourist spot buildings. All of the buildings were closed but I was able to walk through the park and capture photos of fragrant flowers, saw a humming bird, an outdoor garden, airplanes, and a row of massive beautiful trees with amazing root systems.

This is such a great museum to show kids dinosaur bones. This was a standard field trip for second graders at the school that I taught at. The halls with the displays of animals are always a big hit too. The surrounding grounds are a nice place for a picnic lunch. The LA Coliseum is within view. The other side of the building offers a beautiful view of the fabulous rose garden.

Amazing place full of history, we spent 5 hours here with our 5 year old and could not see all the exhibits. The museum was amazing and it was a great place to see actual full size dinosaur bones. What I didn't appreciate was being lied to when purchasing my tickets saying that we were coming during a special event and could not enter the museum until the ticketed time. This put a damper on my plans and turned out to not be true at all. I called 3 times to verify and was told the same thing yet we were able to get in early. We heard other people complaining about the same thing. Quite ridiculous! If you're going to set rules in place then follow them!

I am giving 5 stars, but to be honest we didn't have 5 stars of enjoyment. Not because of the museum, but because it didn't meet the needs of our family. My son is 2 and he wanted to "ride" everything. The dinosaurs and other mammals were a little too real for him. Other than that it was very well laid out, plenty of room to explore without being on top of other families.

This might be the best museum I have ever visited. What surprises me about that is I have always assumed you can’t beat a science museum, at least not from an engineer’s perspective. This place excels for its architecture and its vast coverage of the subject matter. You could not see everything here in a day. Another gem in the Los Angeles repertoire.

Experience - My husband and I took out 4year old son. My son had a wonderful experience. We spent a little over 3 hours there. Tickets - Bought online, no wait to get in Food- Take snacks, water if you plan on staying a few hours. Food, and snacks are available a little pricey in my opinion. Staff - Everyone is very helpful and friendly Parking - $15.00 for regular vehicle. We went on a Sunday during the Dino Expo, parking wasn't close but there was lots of it. They have 2 lots one closer to the museum was full. If you enjoy or don't mind walking then you'll be fine with the 2lot. You pass by the Space, and Science center and the USC stadium

So so so much more going on than you initially think when you walk in! They've got the really good taxadermized showcases! Then you get to the fossils and there's just so many and it's so well put together. On all the placards too they display which of the bones are real and which are replica. I loved the human skeletons and ancient pieces we'd uncovered from them as well. Just amazingly put together and really enjoyed all of it. There was an amazing rock and gemstone collection which of course I loved! Of The nearly 200 pictures I took here 80 of them were of rocks and gemstones lol!

The Natural History Museum of LA is probably my favorite museum to date. The tickets are incredibly affordable and souvenirs are reasonably priced. So much to see, as well. My sister and I arrived at 10:40 or so and spent nearly six hours looking at everything the museum had to offer. For only $18 per person... That's hard to beat. I even ran into an issue with not having my tickets sent to my email, I emailed customer service and they resent it immediately. My only issue with our visit was that the primary parking area was shut down for construction and we had to spend another 10-15 minutes looking for parking and then walking to the museum. My sister is very pregnant right now so that was pretty inconvenient, but nothing more than a hiccup to a very great day.

This place is a lot bigger than you expect, so many things to look at. It's difficult to see and enjoy everything in 2 hours. Make plans to be here for a few hours so you can really enjoy the exhibits. They even have rotating galleries and events so plan accordingly. You may purchase your tickets in advance online.

This is honestly a really fun place!! There are so many different types of exhibits you can enter and they all have fascinating things with them, there's this one exhibit that has a hall to it and in that hall there live animals there!! Some animals like tarantula, a boa snake, a python snake, etc. There is another exhibit that features different types of crystals. All are one of a kind. There's even this part where they have a vault for the gems!! If there's a place you want to go with family or friends, I recommend this museum if you're interested, they do have a food court so you don't need to bring your own food.

This museum was amazing and fun, and there was so much to see you could be there for hours. This is a nice couples date idea, my boyfriend found this place while looking at different museums and once he saw the dinosaurs, we both agreed that we wanted to go here. It was our first time here and we enjoyed it a lot. We got here at 2 PM and left at closing time I would suggest going earlier I wish we would have because there were so much to see and we honestly didn’t even think that the place was that big. There were so many exhibits, that towards the end we kind of rushed to see everything maybe even missed a hall, but we still had a great time. So if you’re a person who enjoys walking through museums, even taking the time to read about certain things, then I suggest going early so you could enjoy the whole experience of everything. Along with other couples we saw walking the halls. This is a nice place to bring kids, especially to keep them busy for a couple of hours. Not only did we see kids loving the dinosaurs there was a lot of interacting stuff that the kids could do and even a small room with activities such as Coloring dinosaur pages, digging up dinosaur bones(not real sand or anything it felt like little foam pieces). Along with the dinosaurs, we enjoyed walking into the animal halls. It was cool seeing how big certain animals really were, especially knowing thats as close to a brown bear or a moose you’re ever gonna get lol. A lot of different exhibits, such as the bird hall, the aquarium, the gem hall, which was also cool, if you like rocks. They even had a vault room with certain valuable gems. Great experience, and unlike other museums that would charge you extra just to enter another part of the museum. This place you got to see everything for an amazing price. It was $18 for adults. And what was nice was they do military so my bf basically got in for free so that’s also great to know. We also went on a Sunday, there was no wait lines to get in, and it didn’t feel overcrowded because of how big the museum actually is. Overall, it was a beautiful museum, filled with so many exhibits that will keep you busy for hours, great prices, and one that should definitely be on your museum list if you haven’t gone yet.

I love going to museums, it's very relaxing. This one in particular has a comforting feel to it. The lighting and peacefulness really sets the tone for a great museum. Surrounded by a massive rose garden and the science center makes this journey a lot better. Note: Construction is ongoing at the moment, so it looks a little chaotic but I have hopes that it will look amazing in the future.

A great place to take the family for fun and learning. The dinosaur and animal exhibits were spectacular and beautifully done. We spent hours admiring the displays and reading about the animals, stones and minerals, the history of humanity and the predecessors of todays technology. My kids loved it and I had fun watching them light up with wonder.

It was unfortunate to go around once, so I looked back once more, but it was good to see it twice. It was a weekend or so, and various events were held inside, and it was really nice to see because there was a booth for selling insects and an explanation booth. Kids love coming here. A little pricey but makes a day go by quick. It's better then the aquarium in Los Angeles, CA.

If you ever thought that dinosaurs did not exist, this is an ideal museum to visit with the family and you can find real bones of dinosaurs, reptiles, and many more animals! The cost of entry is very accessible.

We had a great experience at the center! We did the sloth encounter and our host was so knowledgeable and made the experience really fun. The turtles were also a lot of fun to watch and were really active and engaging. We will definitely be back!

It's currently restricted to only outdoor exhibitions with timed tickets to enforce social distancing, but it's really great and the gardens are beautiful! Outdoor cafe is open with limited offerings (snacks and beverages). Keep supporting the NHM!

I have beautiful memories of wandering through the rose bushes and cherry blossoms pretending this place was my Secret Garden. A magical place for kids and jaded adults.

This is a great spot to just visit during your tour of Los Angeles. You can get some really great shots here for the gram or any other socials. Plus, if you like museums, definitely check out everything nearby. Pretty central spot and there are a lot of other places to stop by as well. Make sure you stop by.

The museum is still closed but the Butterfly Pavilion is open until Oct 4. Tickets are limited.

This was very cool to see and we learned some things we would have never known. There are some items general to the country and some specific to Nevada. We got to meet a paleontologist who explained a cool new discovery they found as well as the process they will take before publishing. Very cool place which takes around 2 hours of your day. Will definitely bring our son next time!

My second favorite museum in LA, besides the Ca. Science Center next door. A little scary for small children, but they’ll love the hands-on kid’s exhibit upstairs.

My wife and I took our two kids here on Saturday morning and spent a solid 4-hours. The kids are only 3 so thats good. There was lots to see and lots to do that kept them interested all the way. These photos are only a few of the areas that we walked through, it was all pretty amazing and educational. The outdoor area was relaxing and refreshing, the food court had good food as well with decent pricing. Overall a great place to have some family fun or just explore and learn from history. Will be returning again.

Great museum for kids and adults alike. There's lots of interesting exhibits. We went specifically to see the Mineral Hall, which has a fantastic display of minerals. We also really enjoyed the nature walk.

Great place to spend a day with family. There is something for all age groups. The dinosaur fossils are easily the best thing to see in the museum. The 3d movie was fun too. The toilets are super clean which is important when going with younger kids. Water dispensers are everywhere, so make sure to get a water bottle (do not buy water in the restaurant, it is too expensive!) Giving just 4 due to the restaurant and the butterfly pavilion. Wasn't too impressed with both.

I really enjoyed the museum experience. First time going to this museum. I had a blast with my family. I especially enjoyed the laid back atmosphere. This is a must go for those who are trying to stick to a budget while getting some educational enjoyment.

Very pleasant experience , was a bit busy on the weekend but that's expected, typically during mornings and weekdays are the best when it's most empty . The place has updated their fossils and minerals so it definitely has a bigger more to offer experience... Definitely a major must do for anyone of any age who enjoys history from clay pots and art to fossils of several land and marine animals and animals of today's world !

So much to see and worth the 15 entry fee. Parking is also 15 dollars. The butterfly exhibit is extra and we didn't pre-purchase those tickets so they were sold out when we wanted to stop by there, so we didn't do that one. The gems exhibit is amazing. The dinosaur exhibits are also great and extensive. There's an exhibit about Los Angeles as a city, but it seemed to lack details about indigenous people who lived here before the city became so big. The food options are very good in the Cafe (tasty too), but pricey (average of 10-20 per person).

This museum was very educational. Best thing to see is the dinosaur exhibit and I took the most photos/spent more time here. North American and African animals are just taxidermy and somewhat familiar because of a) living in N. America myself and b) the access to nature documentaries via streaming media services. I still gave it five stars because of location, price, dinosaur exhibit, and overall experience.

I love museums. The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles is such a beautiful building and has amazing history built into its gorgeous architecture. The exhibits are thoughtfully curated and the museum keeps it fresh with special exhibits and experiences available. We went to visit the butterflies before they shut it down (and before the heat wave). We also loved the updates to the dinosaurs exhibits and the tie in to Los Angeles as it may have been millions of years ago. Love that the museum shop is secondary to the museum itself. Great day out, wonderful displays and experience.

A pretty good museum. Was surprised by how large it was on the inside. A good mix of new and modern exhibits along with the old classic dusty displays and dioramas. There were a few modern interactive activity areas for the kids but since those spots were few and far between they tended to get crowded. A couple of areas were roped off (for renovations it seemed) but unfortunately they didn't update the maps or guides to make that clear. The gift shop was ok and full of standard items. Parking can be a challenge if you are not familiar with the area, though there is public transit immediately adjacent if that is convenient for you. Don't know if there is enough here to justify a membership, but it was a fun (half a day) experience.

This museum is amazing! Everything is beautiful and well kept. The dinosaur exhibit is something special to see. They have an extensive mineral crystals exhibit. The animal kingdom halls are very detailed. It is like looking through a window, into a glimpse of a habitat far away. This is a truly special place to visit.

I'm 39 years old and barely came to this popular museum. Wow! What a collection of detailed history all in one place. So much information and cool sculptures to absorb. They had a cute little area for children. My toddler enjoyed being in that area. Restrooms and elevators available. Edible Garden is located outside where you exit through the dinosaur hall.

We went to this history museum on a school field trip. It was very exciting. There are many different dinosaur exhibits and also informative exhibits like Becoming LA, they have the Butterfly exhibit, but you have to make reservations ahead of time to enter. They also have the edible garden, and if you're lucky you may see some butterflies in there. My favorite exhibit was the crystal gems area. Very much worth the trip and you will enjoy yourself. The kids will always remember this place.

Hit up the Natural History Museum of LA County recently and it was beyond awesome! The dinosaur fossils are totally epic and the animal exhibits are legit amazing. It's like stepping into Jurassic Park and a wildlife documentary all in one go. Super cool spot for a day out, highly recommended!

Great museum. Fun for all ages. I have an amazing collection of actual skeletons that prehistormic animals. also a huge room dedicated to gems and crystals. It's right next to a beautiful public Rose garden in full bloom.

Always makes for a great educational little trip. I enjoy bringing my children here they love it especially my smaller 1 year old she has a blast in here. LA County residents come in free from 3pm-5pm just be ready to show your ID.

The Los Angeles Natural History Museum is a wonderful place for kids and adults alike. It is a medium to large sized museum with a great variety of exhibits. They have a great selection of fossils and prehistoric information and a room also dedicated to mammals. I was surprised to see they even had a replica of Lucy! (It isn't labeled if the fossils on display are replicas but I'm just guessing they aren't the real ones). On certain days they have activity stations for kids as well. Come early because parking can be difficult during busy times. For LA county residents, admission is free after 3pm on weekdays! First Fridays are a blast, with live music, and themed events they are definitely worth the visit when happening!

Wow!! This place brings back SO many memories. It’s so nice to be able to enjoy such a treasure of information…exhibits, etc. one day is not enough, so plan accordingly. With all of the construction it’s a bit tricky to park and arrive but if I figured it out…so can you. Enjoy!

Gem and mineral hall is absolutely our favorite exhibition in the museum, since we are all rock enthusiasts. So many crazy and stunning rocks and gems to look at. Other exhibitions are great too. Overall it’s a great place for all ages to spend a whole fun, educational day.

My favorite exhibit hall was the minerals and gems. It was absolutely interesting with a vast variety of precious gems and minerals. A must see! The documentary about minerals and gems was very interesting and engaging. It sure inspired me to do more research about geology. Loved the architecture!

Lots to see and do! We really enjoyed our time here. It’s definitely worth the ticket price and the grounds and facilities are wonderful! You could spend all day in this area. Definitely a must visit!

All the exhibits had interesting descriptions and facts for both kids and adults visiting. It was kept clean, and the large walkways allowed for movement of people without waiting or getting stuck. Exhibits included dinosaur fossils, geodes and minerals, North American and African animals, and the history of LA. There is also a rose garden outside. Perfect to see everything in 2-3 hours. Note that the cafe in the museum was a bit expensive, with a plate of dry chicken nuggets and fries for $20.

Fantastic! My dinosaur loving son was enthralled with all the dinosaur fossils, and I was too. There are so many things to see, and the discovery center is a great place to get hands on.

Fun experience. I visited the dinosaur hall, the African mammals and gardens exhibits. The dinosaur hall has a ton of interesting information on the walls and descriptions. Good museum, would recommend going here. The dinosaur exhibit is interesting for adults too.
