I visited here in March 2022 as part of walking the Capital Ring. This is a large peaceful meadow near the Thames.

Be aware dogs are not allowed when the cows are on the fields, like that. But, One of the most well known and recognised views in English history. The Meadows are open and free to walk thru. Be aware that in summer the owner/society bring cows to graze the area. Please keep away from them. It adds a farm setting to the area. Great walk by the river that borders this park. You can walk thru the middle to reach Richmond or the lanes leading to Richmond Park.

Beautiful historic meadow. From April to October the meadow is grazed by a herd of Belted Galloway cattle. During these months dogs must be kept on a lead. Some dog walkers resent this, with their usual: "My doggy is a good doggy, a nice doggy and a doggy that never poo-poo's without me pretending I didn't see it". They happily ignore the fact that cows are not intimately acquainted with the personality of every running dog and it can stress them. As it is ancient meadow, it is best to respect the grass, wildflowers and voles and keep to the path. If you want to picnic, or run around on grass, the Terraced Gardens are just opposite, a 2 minute walk away. It can be busy on sunny weekends, best get there before noon, or save your visits to weekdays, when you can often stroll across the meadow alone with your thoughts, and a small herd of Belted Galloways, strolling placidly towards the setting sun.

It is a large peaceful meadow near the Thames. 📝 The meadows are owned by Richmond Council but is managed by the National Trust under a lease arrangement. 📑 Every year cows are brought to the meadows for grazing, giving rise to a different assemblage of plants. 🐄🐮🐄

Beautiful autumnal weather for a cycle ride along the Arcadian towpath to Hampton Court Palace. Usually the noisy planes are flying over every 45 secs polluting the air but since Covid the air has become a lot cleaner and quieter. Can't see how we can ever meet our climate change obligations if the airport is allowed to reach its pre Covid air traffic levels.? The towpath cycle route to Hampton Court can be shortened considerably by road via Hampton wick, strawberry Vale and then Twickenham. I chose this route on the way back to save some time as the traffic was reasonable .

Today we walked to Ham house and crossed by Petersham meadows. The wildlife in the grasses was fascinating and the added bonus of being near to the River Thames made this a nice experience. The ice cream van at the end of our ramble in the meadow near to where the canoes were being launched made it special.
