Loved the sail ship- style interior and the vintage concept. We had a big group, and tried a variety of choices. We all enjoyed the creamy crowded soup , the juicy steak and fresh oysters from the giant seafood platter, along with wine and refreshing mocktails..However, quite disappointed with deep fried dishes, such as fried chicken, fried calamari- tasted like when using old used oil for cooking. Overall the food and the service was not worth the price value.

Amazing place to dine in at. The decor is fantastic. The seafood was cooked to perfection and it was delicious. Highly recommend going there not only for the food but also for the ambience.

The food was excellent. Very tasty without being overpowering. The staff were friendly and helpful but not efficient. I think that they forgot our desert order and we had given up when it finally arrived. It was at the end of the night so they were no longer busy. The atmosphere is unique and eclectic. There is something new to see in every nook, cranny and corner.

This place has a lot of potential. The decor is cozy, and really takes you on an adventure to a pirate ship. And I wish they took it up a notch with pirate or sailor music and nautical costumes! That would really turn this venue into an experience. The food is fresh produce, tasty, and quick to serve. We got a yachties seafood mixed grill. I wish the seafood was not served on a hot plate - it ended up being over cooked by the time we got to it. We also got the fish market chowder is great - definitely order that.

Staffs were really friendly and nice. It is quite an experience. We really love the hot rock salmon, ordered one as an entree size and realised we couldn’t get enough so we ordered another one. If we could we would lick the hot rock, the salmon is really tasty. The Admiral’s Iced Tea is refreshing!

This place has a great atmosphere and love the pirate themed decor. But I think that’s the only positive from the restaurant. The prices were way too dear for what you ordered and it was definitely aimed at tourists. They were unorganized when we arrived. Further the fried battered prawn salad was so bad. $36 and the batter was doughy and not cooked, soggy and I couldn’t eat it as it wasn’t mixed properly I could taste the beer. I ended up scraping all the batter off. Really not worth the visit.

Delicious seafood! We arrived 30min earlier than the reservation time but the staff were so nice and let us sit down early. Food was great, we tried a new dish on the special menu, the chef came to meet us in person and asked about feedback l. Great service and food.

I had a great experience at the Drunken Admiral. Not only is the space super cool and decked out in all kinds of maritime/pirate paraphernalia, the service is great and the food is phenomenal. My main was the Yachtie's mixed grill seafood platter and it was so delicious, and I loved how it arrived smoking and sizzling on a hot plate! You definitely need to book in advance here, but it's well worth it.

I had been recommended this place by 2 friends who had previously visited. The ship theme was a nice surprise the moment you walk into the restaurant. The food came out within 15 mins of ordering and came out super hot. The seafood grill was a nice mix and the portions overall were very fair. Table service was friendly, with multiple waiters checking up with us during the night (3 different waiters in fact). Cosy atmosphere, low light seating areas and definitely worth booking before visiting to ensure you get a spot - the place was completely full within minutes of us arriving. Kids menu also available (menus as per photos)

Was in Hobart and saw the Drunken Admiral. I thought it was just a pub. But it is not! What it is is a great restaurant. Great decor and great staff. I had seafood chowder with crusty bread. It was well worth the visit. If you are going down to Hobart, this place is not to be missed. But remember, you must book!

The eye fillet on a bed of mashes potato was dry aged, tender and moist. The yachties seafood platter was deliciously smokey and spitting hot but a word of caution: we quickly transferred the seafood from the hot platebandnit was just nice or we would have been eating overcooked seafood. The atmosphere. You feel you are in a ship in the 1800s. Much attention to detail including a rusty oil lamp on each table. The service was awesome.

Given the quality of food and the service we got there, I would like to give the zero star to this restaurant(if I could). We tried several weeks ago. The food was so-so but the interior design was really awesome. The chowder is not recommended. My friend even couldn't finish it but she is a seafood lover. According to her it's not fresh. In my opinion, the one I had in Bruny island was far better than this one. Oyster and skewers are not worthy to try. And the food on the hot plate are overcooked. The food came at the same time. The waitress didn't ask during taking order and decided for us to put everything on the table at the same time. We had no space to place the food on the table. We gotta rush to finish them in order to take out some plates. We didn't have time to finish the food then it already turned cold or overcooked (in a stone grilled). At the end when my friends were taking look of the dessert menu. I couldn't help to take a look the table sitting next to us they were in the middle of their Menu (their food got served separately : Appetizer, main...) And more importantly they came earlier than us. The waitress were rushing to take away our plates while we were still making decisions on the dessert. I was really upset and angry with this then I told my friends " I don't wanna have dessert here as I feel uncomfortable and don't wanna stay here any longer."

The interior designs with all those details were AMAZING. The food was really good too. If you go to Hobart you should go there. The cocktails and foods were very tasty. My friends and I had Hot rock salmon, devil fried Oyster and prawn linguine for dinner. I loved salmon and linguine the most. Staff were friendly as well. This place is highly recommended.

It was our first dinner in Hobart and the experience was amazing! We’ve done some research before visiting but didn’t expect the food can be this tasty. As the quality of seafood restaurants can be varied and unpredictable, Drunken Admiral well done in all aspects. The staff are friendly and helpful. The historical pirates interior style adds on the unique dining experience. Grilled oysters in two styles are highly recommended! Calamari and salmon are tender and fresh. The Sultan wok has a fusion taste of Thai green curry which goes well with the rice. Price wise it’s a bit pricey if you’re just looking for local seafood experience. Overall, it was a good place worth visiting.

Tried this place tonight after being recommended by some random in market. Best decision!! Meal not only looked great, they tasted awesome too. Waitress was very friendly and informative. Chef was accommodating to some requests we made to add to our meal. Portions are generous, even though on menu prices may look little steep, but quality and portion size definitively makes up for it. Highly recommended if you are in Hobart!

What a lovely place, I really enjoyed our evening. A group of 8, all with different requests and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals. Staff were jovial and made you feel welcome and relaxed. Loved the decor which created a great ambience. Very happy with the price, portion and quality. We totally recommend 👌

Hubby and I managed to walk in and get a table on Friday night for 1 hour. It was really busy so I suggest booking. Hubby had the seafood chowder with crusty bread roll, it was delicious. I had the squid which was also really nice. Great atmosphere and very interesting inside with lots to look at.

Great kitchen all over the place to look at. Attentive service and fabulous food. I got the Hapuka grilled fish with the Szechwan rub and it was delicious. Cocktails were really good and we even got Oyster shooters that went down easy.

The atmosphere and drinks at this place were top notch. We arrived at 5pm on a Monday and had a lengthy wait for the market fish (red snapper) and my partner ordered the chicken and noodle salad which arrived at 6:30. The fish was overpriced, underseasoned, and slightly dry. My partner's meal was much nicer. In addition I ordered the Whisky Sour and the Old Kempton, and my partner got the sparkling apple juice which were all great drinks. In short, great themed venue but seafood lacking.

Don’t have photos of the mains that we ordered but it was so good. The seafood mixed grill was so yummy, squid and scallops were so soft and juicy!! 🤤🤤🤤 The desserts are also to die for!! Service is topnotch! Ambience was great! Love the vibe of the place.

Drunken Admiral was where we enjoyed some of the nicest seafood chowder in Tasmania. It was our first night in Hobart and was exactly what you need when looking for a friendly and inviting restaurant after a day of exploring. From the moment you walk in, the staff are available to help ensure you have the best dining experience they can offer. Highly recommend when in Hobart!

What a great spot for amazing sea-food in Hobart def checkout there catch of the day on the special menu. The fish was delicious and the atmosphere is great with all that pirate and seafarer looks inside the place. When we come back to Hobart we definitely will come back for more fish.

Delicious cuisines cooked by fresh ingredients! Squids and fishes I ordered were amazing, really able to taste the freshnesses of the ingredients. Beer and gin recommended by staff were nice. Conforming to what we asked for, professional advice. Dessert was lovely, not too sweet but strong coco flavour. Peach and vanilla ice cream were a perfect match. A reservation is a MUST, almost full house every night. Good service, good vibe, good food! A perfect restaurant.

100% would recommend this restaurant to literally everyone. This restaurant serves really fresh food and service was top notch too! Ordered fish chowder and it’s the best chowder I’ve ever had. Prawn linguine is no doubt one of the best spaghetti you can get in Hobart too! Great atmosphere and you wouldn’t go wrong with this restaurant for all sort of events.

Recommend booking. We were lucky to grab a table. Food was delicious although i do think a little overpriced. $45 for 4 skewers, chips and a small salad was a little rich but the flavours were amazing. The decor was brilliant and the staff were super friendly. Glad we experienced it.

It’s a great restaurant with slots of pirate and sailing details around the whole place, is like a little museum, kids would love it. Menu and food quality was average May be we had high expectations as other reviews were pretty good. But love the menu range from natural raw items to cooked, grill and baked so it should have something for everyone. The surprise was the kids dessert caramel brittle. The only thing that block me give another star is the size of the table, is rather small so it gives you pressure to eat fast and remove empty dishes right away which we hate it so much.

Drunken Admiral has a great atmosphere, and the decor is fantastic. Food overall was average. The Satay Spring Rolls my, favorite however really disappointed with the, oysters which are some of the smallest I've ever eaten. Service was good, but we felt rushed and within an hour, we were in and out. Overall, we wouldn't go back for the price of the food (we paid $160 for one drink each, 4 starters/entrées and one main) and the quality received.

We really enjoyed our time at The Drunken Admiral last night for our final night in Hobart! The seafood was delicious! Fresh fillets, they weren’t joking!! Staff were so attentive and the decor is awesome! So much to see and the little touches that give you a chuckle! I will also point out that the the place is impeccably clean! I wasn’t looking but as I left the bathroom and a staff member was checking it over, I realized how incredibly clean the entire venue was. For a place with as much memorabilia as the Drunken Admiral, it’s a credit to the owner! Telling all our friends to come here and whether you have a penchant for the high seas or not, make it a must on your next visit to Hobart!

Amazing place once you enter you feel you are in a ship. Excellent service and the food is just from another world. Definitely the best seafood in Tasmania. Friendly staff.

Really atmospheric restaurant who were accomodating for our request for a seat in the corner or against the wall. The hot rock salmon was the star of the show. The seafood chowder and salt and pepper squid was good but overshadowed by the amazing salmon dish.

If there was a way to give this place 7 stars out of 5 I would. Easily the best seafood restaurant I’ve ever been to, hands down. The internal/external decor is rooted in seafaring nostalgia and gives it an old-worldly charm that leaves such a remarkable impression. The food has clearly gone that extra mile. The salmon was served on a rock so hot, you could feel the heat under the table 30 minutes after the meal was brought out. The Tassie scallops were perfectly seasoned, sweet, and definitely melted in the mouth. Although probably mid-range for pricing, it is worth every cent. Do expect to spend a fair amount to fully experience what this place offers. The place isn’t just dining, it’s an activity; an experience. A place where ambience is key. Obviously being so good, it is very popular, so best to book at least a day in advance to secure your preferred time. I remember this place very fondly, and you will too.
