Tasteless egusi. Terrible service. Been waiting for the check for 25 minutes so far. Lightly boiled tripe(supposed to be soft) hard as a rock. Cold rice, half cooked fish. Did I say terrible service? Menu items not available. I actually called before driving from Spring to verify that items would be available because I’ve had the experience of items not being available. And they didn’t have them. Never got the water we asked for. Oh and terrible service. Zero stars.

I made sure I placed 5 consecutive to go orders before making this review and it’s wild to see ALL the to go orders either missed the protein or the solid which goes with it. 5 times can’t be oversight, at this point it seems intentional. I feel there are others like me who never leave reviews and just overlook it but not this time. Below are two different plates, one missing plantains other has no protein at all. Never had any issues when I ordered in but ALL the to go orders are conveniently wrong.

This is my 2nd time here. Both times were SPOT ON! I will continue to patron this place! I come this past weekend for my birthday. Yes, I drove all the way out there for the pounded yam swallow and Egusi! The staff are beyond kind. The owner makes everyone feel at home. I enjoyed sitting and waiting on my food while looking at the different drink, art work and listening to authentic music playing. There is nothing better than being at a place that has so much of their culture being represented in the establishment! Of course, I will be back as this is my favorite place now. Cockerill Egusi with Pounded yam 🍠 swallow ❤️

Unfortunately, the experience here was just okay. My friend and I ordered the Egusi with chicken, fufu, and plantain with stew. The plantains were sweet and delicious but I wish the outside was crispier- they were all very soft. As for the stew, it tasted great and paired well with the plantains I wish I had asked the waiter for his recommendations because my friend and I could not eat more than a couple bites of the Egusi. I only had Nigerian food a couple of times but this was the first time trying egusi and the taste of smoked fish was too strong for my friend and I. We usually enjoy fish/fish-based dishes and I personally don’t know what Egusi is supposed to taste like but if you don’t come from a Nigerian background and you don’t particularly enjoy strong smells/taste of fish, then I would order something else. However, the fufu that came with the egusi tasted great (my friend and I just dipped the fufu in the tomato based stew instead of the egusi). As for the chicken, I was a little confused at first because I thought it would be in the Egusi but it actually came as a side dish in the same stew that went with the plantains. The chicken was fried well- crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. Overall, the service was good and the interior was spacious but the Egusi just really threw us off. Not to mention, the meal was more on the pricey side (Egusi- $18.99, Fufu - $2.75, and Platain - $10) If I were to visit again, I hope to try the Jollof Rice and fish

Parking was easy. Restaurant was clean. We were sat right away. Blessings, our waitress, made great recommendations with drinks, appetizers, and entree. They were able to accommodate my dietary restrictions. Food was delicious!! We had a lovely evening! Thank you!!

Emmanuel and Blessing are great servers and the food was very good. Go get you some chicken suya, jollof rice and tilipia pepper soup.

Its really nice the jollof is spicy and tasty, I don't like jollof generally so yes theirs is really good. I love their banga/ofe akey stew, I use it for rice instead of swallow the only complaint is when I order it for rice they give me a very small plate of rice, like a side dish which makes no sense honestly . The nkwobi is mid, it's more like they put soft ponmo than cow foot , its spicy but flavorless .their moist moist is nice and rich with fish and corn beef, very delicious, I like the fact that the white rice place comes with a side of white beans, veggies and plantain and almost always the plantain is ripe and soft and delicious as it should be. the workers are nice most times but you can tell the days their stressed and gave the service a 3 because they never give you utensils for to go items... I've ordered a lit of times to go and they never put a napkin or forks/spoons nothing, which socks most times because if I'm not home I have to look for where to get a spoon before I could eat. Overall, I didn't give it a 5 star because it has quite a few down sides but it's a decent 4 because the upsides make up for the most part.

The first time we visited the Restaurant the customer service and food portions was perfect. The second time we visited the customer service was the same, however the food portions was very different (much less). When we asked for additional sauce and what's the difference between the first time we visited and now, we were told that they were being generous the first time. While the food is savory I am unsure if we'll revisit the restaurant again.

Definitely won't be going here again. It was nice being with my family, though. The service took very long to serve us, and my thing is, say something, and I would have understood the delay. The food was also very spicy and didn't have a lot of seasoning or flavour that I imagined it would have. There is much room for improvement. I did enjoy the atmosphere and the music as well as just spending time with family.

Waited 45 minutes for a take out order. Other people who came before us got their others, ate and left and we were still waiting. Got the food and it was absolutely NONSENSE, coconut rice looked like 5 days old rice mixed in with microwaved veggies, same with jollof rice. Owner is nonchalant and does not care about customer Service if you seem young. I used to like this place but after the last couple of visits, I wouldn’t recommend. There’s been a shift, and it isn’t for the better. The restaurant ambience is cool tho just not the food.

Very disappointed. From the taste, me being on hold for over 10 minutes to the point of me having to walk in and wait. Even with the wait I thought my food would be steaming hot. I was wrong, only the beef was fresh. Unfortunately they ran out of mixed vegetable aka the spinach mix that they called “greens”. At least use the correct verbiage in a Nigerian restaurant. I was told due to them running out of mixed vegetable which comes with each rice plate I would get extra plantain, wrong. The rice was not fresh or flavorful. I added my own seasoning when I got home, it was dry. Not sure if I will be back. My experience a few years ago was ways better.

The bathroom was clean. The appetizer was the best thing. The rice was burned, at the bottom of the pot; I could smell and taste it. Oxtails had flavor, but were tough. Egusi was egusi. Customer service wasn't good, at all. Food was absolute trash. Go for some gram pics, not the food.

My review is from a takeout order. The food was just okay nothing special. Houston having so many options for Nigerian food there other places that have tastier Nigerian cuisine. I got the coconut rice and stew. The chicken was good and stew had a little spice to it which wasn’t bad. My bf bought it for me. Follow my Instagram: nancyuche_ for more nice photos.

It was a forgettable experience with my visiting buddies. The swallows were so strong, you'd need to chew. The ewedu and gbegiri came without stew, the stew that supposedly had the meats took forever to come and tasted better than it looked (but the look might stop you from tasting). The beans and bread was not bad though, the efo riro too. I think it was just an off day in the kitchen for the other meals. The manager didn't help matters either, avoided us for almost 30mins after requesting to speak to him, joked we wanted the soup "the Nigerian style" and that he believed we changed our mind about speaking to him . He had an unacceptable character towards our complains; i'd guess it wasnt his first rodeo... The waitress was obviously stressed and could harldy hide it - this place would truly stress anyone that day!

I recently visited Taste of Nigeria for the first time on 7/19/2023 I must say, it was a fantastic experience. The food was absolutely delicious, and the service was impeccable. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with a warm smile and felt welcomed throughout my entire visit. The staff was attentive without being overbearing, and they made sure that all of my needs were met. The menu had a great selection of dishes to choose from, and everything that I ordered was prepared and tasted great Pounded yam with goat meat and Egusi. Overall, I had a wonderful time and I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for great Nigerian food and service. I can't wait to go back and try more of their amazing dishes!

Staff is nice. Unfortunately food is inauthentic and tasteless. The stew tasted like straight up tomato paste. Okra seasoning is off. They were out of several menu items, including oatmeal fufu, PLANTAIN, and puff puff. Came from Dallas. Disappointed as I expected better Nigerian food in Houston

The jollof rice is nice and I’ve gotten it from them a lot of times. Whenever, I order delivery, thy give me the small size of what my order. If you want what you paid for, go in store.

  • 2/5 Duan W. 1 year ago on Google
Not what I was expecting. I never had fufu and Egusi soup before so I asked the Cashier to help me decide. I settled on beef Egusi soup and fufu. When I got my food I was surprised that it was on a plate and not in a bowl. I wanted to dip the fufu in the soup but couldn't because it was on a plate. I didn't question it I just took and ate it. There was not enough soup to dip the fufu in. I had to leave 2/3 of the fufu because there was no more "sauce" left. This was not worth $25, not enough protein or soup. I'm new to it so I don't know how it's done. Any answers??

Extremely disappointed. I used to order here all the time but this most likely was my last time. I don’t eat meat so when i buy their soups, i buy it separately so no meat will be in it. It seems that when i order the soups, they come in extremely small portions (and i still end up having to take meat out of it) the pictures I’ve attached are what the soups look like when i received them ( the spoon is in there to take out the little meat). The containers aren’t even half filled. This is RIDICULOUS!!!!! I paid $15 each for this?!?!?

I'm sure it was just a bad day. We were going to celebrate a Birthday. The restaurant was out of most of it's meat dishes. My friend had specifically wanted Nigerian food. So needless to say she was extremely disappointed. We ended up leaving without ordering. Hope you have a better experience than we did.

First time here and tried the scotch egg, cherry margarita, and okra soup with meat. All of it was super delicious. I did ask for chicken but they gave me beef instead. And I loved it! Will be back to try other dishes!

Out of all the African restaurants i’ve been to in Houston, this has to be the best. The customer service is top notch and the food came out on time and tasted good. The presentation of the food was really creative too. I’d recommend anyone wanting to try Nigerian food to go here. I will definitely be returning.

Absolutely top notch service and delicacy. I'm really delighted with the jollof rice at this restaurant! The flavors were perfectly balanced, the rice was impeccably cooked, and every bite felt like a culinary masterpiece. A definite 5-star experience that left me craving more. Highly recommended!
