Great gym. But it's so frustrating how they chase you out during loading shedding because "it's dark" so we apparently can't train. Please look into getting some rechargeable lights. Because it's such an inconvenience that I plan my day around trying to get to the gym by a certain time only to be told I have to leave or and unable to train because of loadshedding... It's just ridiculous

Forgot to take photos of the front of house and treadmill/ cardio area. So will do that next time I go. Overall the equipment could use an upgrade, some of the weight lifting machines are either very outdated or missing some parts. The functional area is really nice and clean. The classes area is really nice except during loadshedding as the lights aren't connected to the generator. So it becomes super dark. The area isn't exactly the best, with the free parking, and in the same area as the China mall, it doesn't feel as luxurious as other Viva gyms. However there are plenty of security on site that do stay until late into the evening. However what changes this gym to a four star for me, is the staff, they truly go above and beyond for the area, the clients and dedication to fitness. They are always willing to help and so friendly. The music in the gym can be weird but normally very nice to exercise to. There are screens and projectors around showing off all the latest sport events. Another plus is the water pressure in the showers and how clean the bathrooms are. They also have many different options for exercise classes and group fitness which is really nice to join. It is much bigger than the other branches of Viva with more space to work out. Overall a really nice place to exercise, just could use some upgrades to some equipment.

Good equipment. Obscenely arrogant staff that try to bind you with hidden clauses into a contract. This used to be the very best gym franchise in Gauteng and I used to tell everyone about them. However, I will never set foot in this place again for their lack of transparency. What happened to the beautiful month to month membership where no contact was needed? That was such a big selling point for customers like myself, some of us prefer that! You blew it, you will never see me again nor will I promote Viva Gym at all like I used to.

Firstly given the state of our country and the load shedding, there is no generator in place so that means your workout is cut short. The staff aren't really any good, they're in the service industry and whether they like it or not they're supposed to greet which they don't. There's a decent amount of equipment however it's always a waiting game to use them

Please read this before committing to the month to month package blindly. When you hear month to month it sounds nice as you can go to the gym at months that you have budgeted for. Other months when you are a little short on money you can skip. Life is very unexpected therefore this package sounded great. a family friend an I signed up at Viva to start our journey, we chose the month to month option and had to give our banking details even though we requested to pay each month we were going to gym. This already should have been a red flag, but as young adults that have never been in a situation where we have been deceived before and lost money we didn’t think anything of it. I will admit that we did not read the terms and conditions as we were promised to receive a confirmation of membership on email with the needed information. On this email it clearly states the following: If you chose MONTH TO MONTH MEMBERSHIP, then this is the flexible monthly membership which does not have a fixed commitment. We made use of their facilities for a month, we agreed that the upcoming month thereafter we won’t be able to go to the gym as we both had to take our cars in for a service. We would have returned to the gym if it wasn’t for what happened next. a debit order went off from both our accounts. I phoned in and was assisted by a lady, I explained to her that I really can not afford to have that money deducted that month and that it doesn’t make any sense as I agreed to the month to month option. She was so cold and careless towards me and said that I should have cancelled online and PAID a cancellation fee and she warned me that if I were to reverse the payment they will deduct double the amount the next month. What?! This wasn’t discussed with us at all when we registered at the gym. The least they could have done was email us the contracts that we have signed after registering so that we could have read through the terms and conditions without feeling rushed. At least we would have been aware of the situation before it escalated. They continue to deduct money from my friend’s account. Money she really needs to get through the month. As for me, I made sure not to have money in the bank account details I gave them. Please do not fall for this. I have read some reviews where it happened to other people as well. These people do not care about you or anyone. They only see money and not the person.

When its loadshedding...you have to leave the gym. Don't know how they pass a safety audit. Please make a plan. We are planning our day in accordance to go and work out!! Make a plan Viva you have enough money to get a emergency back-up lighting system. If it continues we will have to cancel our memberships. Such a nice gym just a lack of operation management!!

Friendly staff, clean, good equipment. Good place for a good workout

Not happy with Viva Gym tonight. I've been a member last approx 3 years. Took my son whose 15 years to train with me tonight. He had Adidas Slops with socks. Was just told to leave the gym immediately. I understand that the rule says shoes at all time BUT it is the WAY I was told to go AND I don't believe VIVA Staff are consistent .... None of them will tell any of these big body building guys who train at Viva to put their weights back where they belong. Almost every single time I've been to Viva I always at some point have to either look for weights lying on the floor that someone, mostly these big muscular body building guys, have left on the floor or I find myself stripping a barbell which was left on the bench press or squat area full of 20kg plates to enable me to use it. I have never seen any staff member telling any of these guys to leave the gym. Are they more important than me.....why must I always waste time to look for weights or to strip weight plates off barbells which they have just left there....Why do they get away with the rules BUT I'm told to leave the gym before I could even start training, I had to leave the gym in less than 1 min after entering it.

I really like this gym, but can staff please encourage gym members more to rerack their weights after use. I know this is an unspoken rule, but it certainly is unpleasant to have to put away 18 plates just because someone wanted to look strong for one rep.

I love this gym because of the fact that you can be who you are here. You are surrounded by all types of people - older people, students, professionals... so you don't feel like you need to wear the latest active wear or know what you are doing.... they have videos around the gym showing exercises you could do if you have no idea what to do, and the equipment is good, it seems like they are also replacing some of the equipment with newer models which is also great.

Honestly i love this gym. Im eating them 3/5 because the gym got so busy in january that its almost impossible to do the things you want to do, as the place is packed with people. I honestly give their staff a 5/5 as they are super duper friendly. Their equipment is so good but people are just so inconsiderate and just ruin things and drop weights. To be honest a lot of the people you will meet here are quite friendly and supportive of your training. BUT i would recommend coming after 7 pm nowadays as the gym is less busy then.

Poor service when it comes to contacting the gym I'm a member at the gym and I expect when I call I get assisted. I've called multiple times with no one answering the phone

I love this gym, the staff and the people. The only reason I have given them 4 stars is because when there is load shedding there is no back up, this means they stay closed if it is dark. Please get a generator. Also, the gym gets far too full at times that you often cannot find any equipment.

Used to gym here, but had to stop. These were my reasons: - Always oversubscribed and packed. Too many people occupying the gym at the same time. This is probably the biggest issue I faced. - Equipment is not maintained as well as one would expect. Especially the free weights and circuit machines. The cardio machines are generally well maintained, though. - When there is loadshedding, the gym is closed and there is no alternative solution such as generators or backup power of some sort. - No Discovery Vitality benefits. - Not all the showers work equally. Sometimes some of them don't have hot water or the eater pressure is a problem. Gotta wing it by experience basically.

Great gym and staff are very friendly and helpful. However lately the gym (Hillfox) is unable to open in the early mornings as the inverter lighting system hasn’t charged. To repeatedly get up at 04:00 and prepare for a workout session just to get to the door and be turned away is not acceptable. Loadshedding is here ti stay ….

They don't have a generator to at least keep the lights on during loadshedding or a power outage which in SA should be standard. I would honestly rather pay more for a Virgin active membership to be able to gym without such a fixable issue.

Great affordable gym. The staff is friendly, always able to help! I can definitely recommend Viva to anyone! I've been on the month-to-month contract for a year now. Unfortunately I am moving and is saddened by the fact that there is no Viva to where I am moving.

Great gym with good classes and equipment. Staff members are friendly and always willing to assist. Gym is always clean. Music is a bit too loud though but that’s my only complaint.

What's the use of having a membership and getting to gym at 5am to be told they only open up at 8am due to load shedding. What a joke. No generator or alternate power supply in our dear South Africa.

It is a pretty descent gym facility at a very affordable rate. Everything always works and the staff is pretty friendly.

Tired of how they chase you out when loadshedding. Surely a plan can be made to accommodate members where loadshedding is here to stay in South Africa? Loadshedding has been on-going for quite some time and still no plan has been made. But members fees get pushed up annually yet we dont get the service we pay for. Some members work all day and can only train in the evenings, only to get chased out. Would not recommend, they do not accommodate their members.

Great gym and well priced. Some machines need oil or grease. They don't move fluidly.

One of the best gyms I have ever joined, sadly my stay was short due to relocating however I would recommend you guys on any given day, staff is friendly, gym is always clean and the prices are close to nothing honestly. Will be back one day.

Viva Gym is amazing, there are various classes for those who enjoy a great class, the instructors are fabulous! The gym is well equipped with all the necessary gym equipment, to assist with your goals whatever they may be, losing weight, getting fit, building muscle etc. There are so many value added extras, this post would turn into a long essay. :) The Viva Gym staff are Fantastic, Motivating, Friendly and Helpful and really this is a gym which is welcoming, a person feels at home. I enjoy going to gym here and pushing myself to reach new personal goals. Viva Gym is definitely a gym to go to.

I've been going here for a couple years. I have zero complaints. Best gym ever. They are following strict covid protocols. Temperature checks and hand sanitizing upon entry. There are also sanitizing sprays and cloths to wipe down equipment and machines before and after use. I love this gym. Not too big and not too small. It's also affordable. I try not to go in the evenings as it get's too full and finding weights and equipment can be a bit of a hassle but during the early afternoon (around 1pm) It's complete freedom. Machines are well maintained.

It's a decent gym. Clean and well equipped however the weights section is very small considering the amount of people that go there. Be prepared to wait for machines.

Always clean, never full, you never have to wait for machines Ive been at Virgin, planet, and 2 other gyms Viva is by far the best. Lacking absolutely nothing.

Love Viva gym . Been training at hillfox for 4+ years. Staff is great. Equipment is good. And the communication is good from power cuts to no water to lockdown 👌🏾 and the monthly rate is affordable.

Although it's a brilliant gym these only one problem with Viva Gym and loadshedding, they don't have generators These absolutely nothing wrong with Viva itself, staff members are absolutely friendly ,it's a good environment I just don't like the fact the with loadshedding these no generators, especially for those who work early mornings It's frustrating to the point we have to leave the gym due to loadshedding half way through a workout

Not even load shedding and they close early. Wasting my petrol and membership fees. If you loadshedding from 4 till 5.30, then why close the gym for the rest of the day?
