Buy the combined ticket online. You then just scan or show it at the entrance. Highly recommended! I didn't wait at all.. As for the Acropolis - it's definitely worth it, most impressive and interesting structure, however not my favourite of the top sites. It is great, no doubt, but the crowd is unimaginable, thus you can't really enjoy peaceful exploration. The top site can be explored in about an hour, HOWEVER (!!) be careful not to exit prematurely or you'll have to buy another ticket, depending on where you enter from. There are two entrances: on the top, and from the main street in front of the big glass museum. You should take the lower entrance and ask how to make your way up. I took the upper one, explored the Acropolis, exited, and was not allowed to go in from the other way. And I didn't see a way down through the Acropolis, but... oh well. The view is also good, the structure is in reconstruction, so the best thing about this part were the few statues.

I highly recommend going early, we got there for the second slot at 9 am and there was hardly anyone else there with no wait times at all but it did start to fill up towards the end, when we were leaving queues were forming at the entrance. Obviously it's the biggest attraction in Athens and with reason, the views were amazing and you can see for miles on a clear day. We had plenty of time to walk around freely and take pictures and read all the history boards that are written in Greek and English.

Obviously a historic landmark and must see....beautiful part of history with incredible views of Athens ad surrounding coast line. With any historic landmarks there were unfortunately preservation efforts taking place with equipment and scaffolding which slightly takes away However there are still plenty photo worthy spots

Beautiful!!! It looks really great even though not much has remained of the original. The walk on top is quite easy, the entrance goes pretty fast if you buy your ticket in advance, it costs 10€. Plenty of people but not too crowded immediately after lunch, around 2pm. It gets pretty crowded later on. The park and slopes very nice for a walk and the view from the top is also great. Loved ot!

A truly incredible historical artifact that you must visit! It’s crazy to see in real life, it looks so mythical and magical that you can even begin to fathom how life with it must have been in ancient times when it was revered to such a high degree! Lovely sight make it the first thing to see when you go to Athens and you won’t regret it!

To say that Acropolis is a “must see” is an understatement. Very few places on this planet can give you what Acropolis has to offer. Thousands of years of history, breath-taking views over the city, its hills and the sea, incredible architecture that has survived centuries, and a unique vibe that fills your soul with joy.

Amazing view from the top. Sunset is absolutely beautiful. You just need to be careful on your steps as some stairs are slippery and on the top of the hill stones are everywhere so just be mindful so you won’t stumble as well

Far from airport. Great hosts. Family owned. I arrived late and left 3:30 am but I noticed it was clean. They had all toiletries. Three single beds. Nice folded towels. What makes this host special is the view of the Parthenon. You can go go out on your balcony and see the remains of the greatest civilization.

It's the top place to visit in Greece and for a reason. All the history, the place itself, the constructions, the temples the theaters. Its absolutely a must do. Really enjoyed the view from the top. I would highly recommend to go early to beat the crowds. Its too many tourists and visitors. And it's worth it.

An incredible place. I visited early in the morning, so there were fewer people. The tour coaches started arriving at around 10 am, and it quickly got busy from that point. With the pre-bought combination ticket, I saved money and was able to walk straight in. There were toilets at both entrances and on the site. These include disabled toilets. Take plenty of water as it is a long climb, and there was nowhere to purchase any on the site. I, also, suggest taking a hat or hairband as it was quite windy at the top. I entered at the main entrance, then exited at the side entrance, which is opposite the Acropolis Museum. Be careful not to accidentally exit as the ticket is only valid for one entry. The site is wheelchair accessible. There is a lift to the top. There are some small hills and the ground is uneven in parts, but it is manageable with the help of someone to push. I believe a pusher can be requested if required.

Great views and beautiful structures, just some information DO NOT go in the MORNING you might think that you want to get there early but don’t, so does everyone else that is one of the busiest times. You aren’t able to eat at the Monuments and i would recommend to bring extra water. over all a beautiful monument and i enjoyed visiting. PS if you are under 25 and from the EU you can get free tickets if you show your passport.

Very easy booking from the website, had the tickets easily accessible on my phone. Know that if you purchase the audio guide you need your own earbuds for that, so we missed out although we purchased it. Got there early at 8 and it was already crowded but be patient. It’s worth it. Amazing amazing history here with placards to educate. Very slippery rocks/stairs even in the dry heat. If you're doing it in August bring/buy water and purchase tickets for the museum too. It was dangerously hot and we were grateful for the respite we found in the Acropolis Museum, which was also amazing. The restaurant was delicious and affordable. The sites/education were incredibly interesting. Every site is easily accessible if you get dropped off near the acropolis. There’s also luggage storage nearby if you need. We walked 10.5 miles during our day and saw everything!

What a great attraction. The large structure is the Parthenon temple and the smaller is the temple of Athena Nike, which is mislabeled as the acropolis, the acropolis is actually the slope to get up to the structures. This is something you have to see up close. It's magnificent from afar but going up to it is something else entirely. Go early though to avoid the rush.

An absolute must see in Athens, but since it’s in full sun I would highly recommend going first thing in the morning (opens at 8am, in the summer at least) and immediately go to the top of the hill. Beautiful scenes and lots of history

Although it was extremely windy when I visited, the views and being at a site where so much important history took place was well worth the effort. Hold on to the handrails if you need to, but if you’re in Athens, don’t miss the opportunity to visit this majestic place!

It's grand, it's incredible, a must see if you are in Athens. It was a bit crowded at the entrance, but not as bad walking around once you are in. Highly recommend getting skip the line tickets, they have great bundles available to allow you entrance to multiple sites.

When we visited few years ago before covid, the lines were faster. Today ( march 2024) we got tickets that had a time stamped on it and you had to wait on another line to await your timed entry. Even off season, the sunday crowd required an hour wait time before entry. 5 stars for our previous, first trip. We weren’t so impressed this time around.

Of course a not to miss location in Athens - the walk up to the acropolis is harrowing along slick marble paths - make sure you are careful. During the summer the heat is extreme and you should prepare to sweat.

Hot and crowded, but such a rich part of human culture there's no way you couldn't give it five stars! The museum is also very good teaching you the meaning behind many of the ruins as well as getting a chance to explore an ancient neighborhood below the Acropolis.

Amazing to see these structures close up and the views of Athens are impressive. Take your own water and hats, its a climb and limited shade on top. The remaining archeology and structures are all mixed up a bit so recommend visiting the museum first.

Visiting the Acropolis of Athens was an awe-inspiring experience that exceeded all my expectations. As an avid history enthusiast, I couldn't have asked for a better way to immerse myself in the ancient world. The Acropolis is truly a treasure trove of architectural brilliance and historical significance. Upon arriving at the site, I was greeted by the majestic Parthenon, standing tall and proud. The sheer grandeur of this ancient temple is absolutely breathtaking. The meticulous craftsmanship and attention to detail in every aspect of its construction left me in awe. Exploring the ruins of this iconic structure was like stepping back in time, imagining the rich cultural and intellectual heritage it represents. Aside from the incredible ruins, the panoramic views of Athens from the Acropolis are simply stunning. Standing at the summit, I felt like I had the entire city at my feet. It's a perfect spot to take memorable photos and appreciate the breathtaking landscapes that blend ancient and modern Greece. In conclusion, the Acropolis of Athens is an absolute must-visit for anyone with an appreciation for history, architecture, and cultural heritage. Its significance to human civilization cannot be overstated. I left the Acropolis feeling inspired, humbled, and with a deeper appreciation for the wonders of the ancient world.

Amazing experience at the end of the day to watch the sunset over Athens. The marble steps can be a bit slippery with hard rubber / leather soles. Take some water with you, if you lining up during the heat of the day (June - August).

Amazing historical significance. The views are breathtaking. The architecture required exceptional skill to shape the stone into these exquisite works of functional art. First time in Greece, first time in Athens, Acropolis was 1km from the hotel I was staying at, just could not resist a morning walk to the top. Had the most amazing feeling walking around such history, and felt more than a little sad about the damage that had been done to this magnificent structure over the centuries by so many countries. I believe its time for the British to return the "Elgin Marbles" back to their rightful home as soon as possible.

You Cannot visit Athens without taking the walk up to the Acropolis. The entry fee is €10 and and it's little bit of walk all the way up to the top but more than worth it. I was tempted to take the more direct walk but I am so glad that I went up the longer path route as you get to see a little bit more going that route. The pictures I was able to take of the city of Athens was amazing. I will give you a piece of sdvice.. we saw tourist getting reprimanded for picking up rocks at the top and for making gestures while taking pictures as this is a temple and should be treated as such

Great piece of history. You should wear good walking shoes and be ready for a lot of steps. We went with a tour, which provided excellent info. However, if I did it again, I would go by myself earlier in the day before the tours show up. It was so crowded and hard to get any decent pictures and felt hectic.

Very breathtaking historical site, but super crowded. Make sure you get there at 8am and tour it as fast as you can, before you are hit by the high temperatures and the big waves of tourists and guide groups. Ideally, get an audio guide of some sort for a proper experience and some explanations of what you are looking at - otherwise, you may find yourself a bit lost, looking at some imposing structures but not knowing any context.

This tourist attraction lives up to its name and as a result, attracts hordes of tourists and long lines. Bring good walking shoes (and water!) as it requires walking up hills, and wear a hat as you'll be exposed to the hot sun. As there's so much to see, it's best to go with a guide who can explain all the architectural marvels and historical significance of the monuments. Also visit the Acropolis Museum where many of the monument carvings are stored.

The Acropolis of Athens is an ancient citadel located on a rocky outcrop above the city of Athens and contains the remains of several ancient buildings of great architectural and historical significance, the most famous being the Parthenon. I debated paying the €20 to enter and wander around more ruins, but I’m glad I did! The absolute size and scale of the ruins was amazing, even if there still was a lot of rubble laying around the ground and a lot of obvious reconstruction going on that ruined some of the beauty. When you go in, it’s a great view of the whole city and even the sea, but don’t forget to walk down to the bottom part, too. We went around 5:30 and it wasn’t too hot.

Still beautiful and impressive, day and night doesn't matter. Too many watchdogs and 'don't touch the marbles', some restoration works in process, crowds of visitors, of course - nothing can spoil the impression! Night view from the Areopagus is also priceless.

Wow! It really is an ancient wonder of the world with good measure, and for great reason. It’s truly the ancient cultural epicenter of Athens and time only continues to considerably foster it’s renown. We left impressed, stunned and staggered by the amount of detail and beauty in this antiquated classical architecture, that lives and breathes past stories into today. It wasn’t exceptionally crowded, but can be on holidays, when Greece gifts you with free access to all of the sites. All in all, it’s more than worth the small fee to see an incredibly landmark that is one of the most beautiful places in the world. The museum boasts a compelling and comprehensive exhibition of Greek culture and there are so many additional places nearby that are tailored to the fabric of Ancient Greece. You really must see this place if you’re in Athens or in Greece. It’s a quintessential landmark and breathtaking! Very kind and courteous staff as well. Highly recommended!

Words can't describe. You must see it in person and understand how prolific the ancient Greek culture was like and how the temple has survived until today. Incredible.

Great views and so much history. A must see when visiting Athens! Having a local guide take you around and explain the history is well worth it plus you don't have to wait in lines. Go early in the day so it's not as hot.

Really enjoyable visit. Not too overcrowded at the moment, so really worth coming. Wear comfortable shoes, no access with buggies, food and drinks are not allowed so might be challenging with small children to cover the distance with no suitable amenities to rest.

It was a great place to visit. The entrance fee is 10€/person. You should know that those of you who are less than 25 years old, from any European area, can go in for free. Let them know, otherwise, they won’t ask you about it. The place wasn’t crowded at all (early February).

You probably cannot come to Athens without visiting. Definitely worth it! Good photo ops. Be careful as many of the stones are slippery, wear good shoes maybe with rubber soles. Recommend going as early in the morning as you can - after it opens, of course.

So lovely to return here, after 7 years. Best advice: arrive early and hoof it directly to top. A bit of quiet before the tour groups arrive. Then one can leisurely descend the slope and explore all the sites along the way. A grateful thanks to all the workers there who deal with us, the hordes of tourists. 🙏

As expected, this historic site was crowded with tourists at all times of the day. Visiting at sunset, it was a great experience still, and at time we could get nice views of the ruins. Going with a guide or visiting the Akropolis Museum before going up definitely gives a nice history lesson to make the visit even more meaningful

Absolutely beautiful and lives up to its reputation. If you're in Athens, it is impossible for you not to visit this beautiful place with such historical significance. It's a wonderful walk up the pathway into the Acropolis and the views from the top can't be beat. You can spend as little or as much time as you want here and soak in the beauty.

Amazing. Absolutely incredible. Definitely buy tickets in advance if you don’t want to wait in a 3 hour line. We already had our tickets and walked right in no wait, but there were huge lines. Lots of people, and some steps and cobblestones that are difficult in the rain for some people. Don’t miss the panoramic views also!

Either get there early in the morning or in the mid afternoon. The line during the 0900-1300 times can be as long as 2 1/2 hours to enter. Lots of uphill walking to get there. They do have an elevator available for guests that need assistance getting to the top. If this isn’t on your bucket list, it most definitely should be.

It’s a beautiful sight, but a very quick one! The lineups for entrance are very long & on a hot day, you’ll be thankful you purchased online (with the line bypass!) Once you start climbing up, in the summer heat, you’ll realize there is very little shade! Wear light clothes! The crowds are many, so you’ll be arm to arm all the way up. Once there, you’ll get great views of the Acropolis - although parts of the Parthenon are under construction (and has been since ‘98). The Temple of Athena is also visible. There is only one washroom at the top, so lineups there too! You can literally see it all in 10 mins! Great views of Athens though! The lineups coming back down are just as bad. Lovely, but don’t do it in the morning or middle of the day! Tour guides advise to do it towards the end of the day to avoid lines and the heat!

17,000 visitors daily and it is evident! Arrived for the 8am opening to find hundreds already in the queue with prepurchased tickets like us. It took almost 20 minutes to reach the entrance. Seems like in the summer they could open the gates at 6am allowing guests to enjoy a couple hours before the sun assaults you. The place IS amazing but it is overshadowed by the sheer number of visitors who get stuck at various choke points with park attendants shouting to keep moving.

One of the world's must do visits. Works best if you visit the Acropolis museum first to get the history and layout of the 'rock'. Also look online for AI reconstructions of the temples in all their original, colourful glory. However, in summer, buy your tickets the day before online, and get to the line at 7.15 for an 8.00 am opening. After this the queues are horrendous!

This place was such a very beautiful archaeological site. It is worth going early or late evenings Despite the busy crowds, the large historical buildings definitely diffuse that issue away. It is a must place to go to when in Athens, along with the Acropolis museum.

Can't say much except that this place was absolutely amazing. I lived every minute of it. The crowds were huge but that did not curve my interest or excitement one bit. Pack some water and maybe some sun block it's hot with pretty much no shade. Put your good traction shoes on as some of the steps can be very slippery even when dry.

Truly just a breathe taking experience! Healthy walk with beautiful vegetation all around. Spectacular views! - you can pretty much see all of Athens just stretching out in every direction around you. This place really just left me feeling full of wonderment looking at the beauty and craftsmanship of the marble columns! I could have spent hours up there just relaxing and taking in the views of Athens. Give yourself a minimum of 1+ hours to wonder about, this is not an experience you want to rush through.

Amazing historical site in Athens! You can buy tickets ahead of time, during peak season I do recommend this. There are time slots to visit as well. If you are going to see multiple sites, you can buy the combo ticket. The walk-up is nice, I think going in the morning or evening is best to beat the heat / sun. Expect crowds. Easy walk up, and there is a lot to look at. Great way to overlook Athens too. Enjoy!

Very nice historical place. The main attraction of Athens is to see. In the summer it is very hot with high humidity which makes it difficult to travel and wait in line to buy tickets under the sun. But the place itself is very nice and significant. I suggest buying tickets in advance if possible.

Extremely beautiful and one of the most historic places on the planet. Definitely THE place to go when in Athens. Plan well, though. Wear what you would for a hike. The walkways are a bit slippery due the walking stone pathways being polished by thousands of years of walking. Bring water. No food is allowed though. There is water and snacks available in the area but the lines were very long. Go as early in the day as possible. It's very crowded and potentially very hot later in the day. Try to buy tickets online from the official website. It's not very clear where to go once there. We went to dinner the night before at a nice place with a cool nighttime view of the Parthenon. The outdoor market was fascinating. This is a good time to learn about the history and get some in-depth education about the Acropolis. The educational signs are very busy and hard to get a chance to read.

What an astonishing piece of history!!! I couldn't recommend this monument more wholeheartedly, a brilliant building with a gorgeous history, we were lucky enough that our afternoon visit wasn't so busy, and the overall experience was fantastic. I would only suggest that you purchase tickets early as some mornings can be quite busy, but having the tickets means the que isn't too bad.

Nice place to be but not that much to do there. A lot of people waited at the ticket booth while there were 2 unused ticket machines nearby. After buying a ticket, the waiting line is incredibly long,l. Tickets must be purchased for a specific time slot. There used to be 23k visitors per day, now it is capped to 20k so there are 'a lot' of people on site anytime.

This historical spot is absolutely amazing - it’s a must see for a reason! We went at around 11am early October and it was busy. You have to book in a time slot unless you have the multi pass (which is what we did - for €30 you can visit a lot of the historical sites across a few days). Be warned if you go on a hot day to wear sunscreen and a hat as there isn’t much shade. They do have one vending machine with water but I’d say bring your own. Also - the marble steps can be a bit slippery so wear good shoes.

The Acropolis of Athens is one of the most iconic and important archaeological sites in the world. It is a must-see for any visitor to Athens, and especially for those interested in history and architecture. I recently had the opportunity to visit the Acropolis, and I was blown away by its beauty and grandeur. The highlights of my visit were reaching the top of the mountain and seeing the Parthenon columns, the south view of Athens from the entrance of the Parthenon, and the north vista from the observation point where the Greek flag is flying. Here are a few tips for other visitors: Be sure to take a hat or other head covering to protect yourself from the sun. Bring plenty of drinking water, especially if you are visiting during the summer months. The entrance and exit stairs to the Parthenon are the most crowded areas of the site. Be prepared to queue, especially during peak season. The nearest metro station is the Acropolis metro station, which is a convenient and easy way to get to the site. Overall, the Acropolis of Athens is an amazing place to visit. It is a must-see for anyone who is interested in history, architecture, or simply wants to experience one of the most iconic landmarks in the world. I highly recommend visiting the Acropolis of Athens. It is an unforgettable experience.

This was so beautiful! Be careful as it can be slippery on your way up at times. My mum has very bad knees and was able to get to the top with a little bit of help. The views are incredible and the world’s first theatre is here!! When you get near the top there is a bit of a queue and crowd to get in and out but not too long. It’s just a shame they rush you through the main attraction to clear up the crowds but it felt unbelievable walking underneath and through the columns!

Amazing! Totally worth the climb and admission fee. Fantastic ancient temples and great views of Athens. We bought tickets online just before entering (it was October, not sure if this is the best option in peak season), 20€ per adult and free for EU kids. There is a place were you have to leave kids stroller for free which is great as it would be very hard to go around the sites with it.

Here are only a few of the richest gifts ancient Greece has given to the world that still impact us today. • It was home to the first recognized historian. • It is the birthplace of world-famous mathematicians. • It is the foundation of Western philosophic thought. • Its founders designed the initial concept of democracy. • It was the first place to bring trial by jury into the courtroom. • It educated and entertained us with mythology. • It brought us the origins of theater. • It created the Olympic games. • It introduced beautiful architecture. • It shared with the world an incredible collection of sculptures and pottery. • It brought us the explanation of true tranquility. • It gave us the most comprehensive, meaningful word for “happiness.” • It gave us greek language as the basis for the technical terms of all sciences.

This is a super interesting place! The historical aspect of it was amazing. It was a shame that we didn't have an audio guide. We used and app called Rick Steves Audio Europe. It is free and takes you through step by step giving interesting information. We visited the museum after which was also good.

You can only imagine what an amazing place it was when the Acropolis was completed and full of life. Today, those times are only reminiscent of ruins. Which Greece is only very slowly trying to return to that original majesty.

What can I say? It's a must see, a historical landmark so great that your life isn't complete without you visiting it! It's a pity we went during a "wip" period, but we could still admire it. The random cats sleeping around are definitely a plus 😁

An acropolis was in ancient Greece a settlement, especially a citadel, built upon an area of elevated ground—frequently a hill with precipitous sides, chosen for purposes of defense. Acropolis also had a function of a religious sanctuary with sacred springs highlighting its religious significance. The word acropolis literally means in Greek "upper city," and though associated primarily with the Greek cities Athens, Argos (with Larissa), Thebes (with Cadmea), and Corinth (with its Acrocorinth), may be applied generically to all such citadels, including Rome, Jerusalem, Celtic Bratislava, many in Asia Minor, or even Castle Rock in Edinburgh. An example in Ireland is the Rock of Cashel. Acropolis is also the term used by archaeologists and historians for the urban Castro culture settlements located in Northwestern Iberian hilltops.

Must go if you are in Athens. You can have a nice walk in a place that has been here for more than 2500 years

  • 5/5 Guy T. 3 years ago on Google
An awe-inspiring place, in the heart of Athens. Beautiful vistas all around, and unbelievable architecture. A great vibe, full of mind blowing history. Allow 1 hour minimum, wear trainers or good shoes, as it is uneven and slippery marble in places. There are hills and steps, so bring water!

  • 4/5 Mi D. 3 years ago on Google
You can see the town when you reach to the very top, it was beautiful... annoying when people constantly take pictures when you’re trying to get to a safe spot to take in the view, but it’s expected since this is one of the main attractions in Athens.

  • 5/5 André M. 3 years ago on Google
A must in Athens, of course. Maybe bring a bottle of water and a hat because it can get really hot and you can't (I think) but water up there. Oh, and bring practical, closed-toe shoes, some stones are a bit slippery. But it's great up there and it's view of and from the city!

  • 5/5 Hanna R. 3 years ago on Google
Absolutely worth it! Beware that there is no coffee / shops on the territory, so make sure to take water/snacks with you. It is also forbidden to smoke on the territory as well. The place is pretty much windy, so take your jacket with you or at least a scarf. The comfy shoes much have! You'll walk a lot, really a lot :) I recommend you to download acropolis guide application (there are a lot of different) to take your time and enjoy instead of trying to catch up with a guide and group.

Fame is better than reality. Yes, the remnants of the Athena temple are beautiful, but hidden behind scaffolding. Not much was left on the Acropolis. The most precious bas-reliefs and statues are in the British Musuem. You have to queue for long time to get tickets. And then, of course, you have to make your way through the crowds. In summer the place becomes overhated. It is a ‘must see’ in Athens, but one visit is enough.

The Acropolis of Athens is breathtaking. The Parthenon is currently under construction with scaffolding on one side but that does not take away the beauty of this monument. The walk up to the top of the hill can be slippery but it is well worth it. The views of Athens are panoramic from all sides. So happy I was able to visit a place I have wanted to see since I was little and learned about it in history class.

What a magical place. A trip to Greece obviously wouldn't be complete without visiting the Acropolis. I definitely recommend a guide.

  • 5/5 Marco M. 2 years ago on Google
Best place in the city of Athens! The only problem is that the site closes at 19 and is not possible to see the sunset from above the city in this period (September). In any case I really suggest to but the 30€ ticket needed for this site and a lot more valid for 3 days (Under 25 is free).

  • 5/5 David W. 2 years ago on Google
Stunning place definitely a must see! Enter from the north there are more ticket stalls and you'll be in line a lot shorter. Also if you will do other athens ruins then get the combo ticket..

This 100% a must do experience when visiting Athens. You'll feel transported back into time as you explore the ancient ruins and historical landmarks of great legends and lore. Wearing comfortable shoes is a must and make sure the shoe tread is sufficient as there are many steps, gravel, and stones along the way. Sunblock, sunglasses, and hats are encouraged. Small backpacks are helpful for water and personal necessities along the way. Pace yourself as there are sitting benches along the way. Highly recommend going during non-peak hours and when it's less hot outside. Early visits will get you best results and best photo opportunities.

20 euro entry fee. Even with the heat there was a nice breeze. You can see the whole city from up top. Would definanalty recommend.

I went without a tour guide and so I found it less interesting, I read all the description that were in the place but the information was very technical and less interesting. it’s nice to see it but it’s not a must do for my opinion.. I recommend to take a tour guide to connect to the history behind it

Athens is better than expected! I had heard it was a few ruins but not that special. Maybe if you don't take the time to appreciate it or learn about the history... but if you do go to the trouble it's incredible!

Simply amazing. It is very difficult to describe this in a photo or a paragraph. You MUST take the time to visit Acropolis when in Athens. The history and beauty of this is incredible. A true monument of the past. We will never forget the experience we had here.

Obviously a must-see when you visit Athens. Every part of the Acropolis is memorable to look at and the views from the top are breathtaking. You don't realize how big Athens is until you are up there.

Absolutely mesmerising. Photos don’t do justice to the beauty one could see in real. It is capable of taking the viewer to the Ancient Greece.

Unfortunately the acropolis was damaged a lot by its attackers and robbed by "so called archaeologists" who were taking away the statues to sell them all around the world. But it still is an amazing site to see it and understand the history of the Athens. Make sure you take a guide which ussualy you wind at the entrance.

It was so amazing!!! I made a wrong turn and ended going the long way to the entrance, but still enjoyed my explorations. It is just incredible to see the Parthenon up close, even with the restoration going on. Crazy to think they originally built that without cranes.,😳 So happy I went and I would recommend to anyone!!!!!

One of the most important monuments in the world. Make sure you go as early as possible. If you enter by 9am at the latest, you will enjoy a wonderful experience. If you reach the ticket stands after 9am, you will end up walking up to the Parthenon at 10am. It will be hot and very crowded. You will not enjoy the experience.

  • 5/5 Riccardo G. 1 year ago on Google
The acropolis is the most famous iconic place of Athens. I visited the place while on a business trip and my company took care of the reservation with a guided tour. The place is stunning and I will visit it again as soon as the reconstruction of the temple of Athena will be finished in a few years. Unfortunately the place is not very accessible for wheel chairs and the elevator was not working that day so they better sort things up to let everyone enjoy the experience. We were also lucky enough to visit the place in the evening on a week day in may without too many tourists.

A must see! Can’t come to Athens without a visit here. Really impressive structures and views of Athens are breathtaking . Purchase tickets in advance to save time, but you can also buy them from the ticket office at entrance. Recommend going early, ideally be there for 9am when they open to avoid long lines and heat! Bring water and comfortable shoes!

Amazing to explore this historic place. Went in the morning as soon as it opened, and it was a good decision to limit the exposure to heat. Also a bit less crowded at that time. Good idea to take water and a hat for sun protection, as there isn’t much shade.

Yes, it is an absolute must. However, there is a right way to do it. Call it a better way, if you will. If you visit in the summer, please start early. Go in at 8:00 and feel the cool morning breeze. Take in the colours of the morning sun on the limestone. For goodness sake, wear trekking shoes. As the morning progresses, you will enjoy the walk and leave as the crowds are arriving. A bit of a tourist trap, yes, but it must be done.

A very interesting place for History lovers but very crowded. I definitely recommend getting a guide within a group and this way you'll skip ques and get the most of historical background. Also have plenty of water with you, when passing gates you are only allowed plain water but you can buy some besides the entrance and exits from the site for 50c a 500ml bottle.

Astonishing Journey into Ancient History - The Acropolis and its Museum, a Must-See" ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I had the privilege of visiting the Acropolis in Athens, an awe-inspiring monument that encapsulates thousands of years of civilization, history, and human ingenuity. The panorama of Athens from atop the hill is nothing short of breathtaking, the juxtaposition of ancient history and the modern cityscape creates an unparalleled visual spectacle. What makes the Acropolis even more extraordinary is the Acropolis Museum. My suggestion to future visitors is to make a stop at the Museum before heading to the Acropolis itself. The Museum gives a deeply enriching context to the structures you will later encounter. Its design is a perfect blend of contemporary aesthetics while paying homage to the artifacts it holds. Exhibits were displayed thoughtfully, explaining the intricate details of ancient Greek culture and civilization in an engaging and accessible manner. The sculpture collections, the detailed models, and the explanations about architectural techniques used in ancient times are truly captivating. Understanding the historical and cultural context beforehand helped me appreciate the magnitude of what I was seeing when I stepped onto the Acropolis itself. Both the Acropolis and its Museum stand as a testament to Greece's historical significance and artistic prowess, making them absolute must-sees on any Athenian journey. The staff are helpful, the place is well maintained, and the overall experience is worth far more than the price of admission. Be ready to be humbled and inspired as you walk through the annals of time. This experience is an unforgettable journey into the depths of human achievement. Five stars without a doubt!

Historical place to visit!! It’s a really short hike to get there. You can see also the whole city. I recommend to go at 18h. You will have plenty time to take pictures with a daytime and golden hour!!! (Closes at 20:00h) . Then you can see the sunset just beside this place

Beautiful place filled with power and history. Went there with my family and out of four people only one had to pay money, since the ticket is free for EU citizen under 25 years old. The queue for the ticket office was a bit of a problem but after that it was OK. Mind that you have to climb a bit, and some stairs are very slippery due to the huge amount of people walking there every day , so prepare comfortable shoes. Said so, the view is stunning and the acropolis is magnificent. Can't imagine how it would have looked like in the ancient times.

  • 5/5 Dawn P. 8 months ago on Google
Beautiful monument. Incredibly busy, very hot and lots of stairs with smooth marble. None the less you can get great pictures and stunning views of Athens. Go early. The temperature at acropolis is higher than the city temp

This is a must visit while you're in Athens. The best time to visit is early in the morning or late in the afternoon. There is not much shade on the top and no water fountain so plan accordingly. I would also suggest to get a pass for all archeological sides as well.

Went July 1st. Pretty hot, long lines, not much shade, not many places to sit and relax once you're up there. The people are rude, but it's worth it. Take your time, give people some space, and be patient. The mornings seem to have longer lines than later in the day. Views are amazing.

One of the best preserved ruins in all of Greece, at a great spot on top of that! However, increased tourism across the years now means that, in peak times, you may have to wait in queue for 2 hours to get to the tops, and that is AFTER paying your ticket and entering the site. Much less crowed after 3pm, but be extremely mindful of the sun and heat at this time of day! A bit of a shame for such a beautiful site...

  • 5/5 Kevin Grubi C. 7 months ago on Google

Walking in the footsteps of 8000 years of history. Greek history and mythology is a delight to read and visiting this site and seeing bits of it is such a pleasure. What a gorgeous walk and exploration site. Take the time to breathe and enjoy this beautiful stunning place. Get in early before the crowd kicks in and as soon as they open though.

It is very hot in Greece and you needed to go up a huge hill. I think there were a bit too many steps. But the good thing was that it was extremely beautiful! You see the Greek ruins. A lot of the beautiful reliefs are in the museum. Go early to avoid the heat. Scaffolding was up when we were there for renovations.

Very packed when we went in the late morning, very hot and no shade so be prepared. Excellent views of the city and amazing architecture and historical sites. Plenty to do on the slopes as well as the top of the site. Recommend getting the museum combination ticket allowing access to 6 sites (€10 more, but significant savings if utilized)

  • 5/5 Alperen G. 7 months ago on Google
Go there as early as possible. You can get a ticket for €30 that covers 7 places. Wonderful & historic place, the highlight of Athens definitely. Watch out when walking since there are many stones on the ground. Also, do not buy anything from the drink shop across the ticket office or you will be ripped off.

  • 4/5 Hanna B. 7 months ago on Google
I really recommend buying tickets in advance and getting there about 15 minutes before opening so you don’t have to wait in the long line that is formed after opening.keep in mind that if your a EU youth under 25 you still have to have a ticket even though it’s free. You can either buy the ticket online or wait in different line to the ticket office

History wise, place with no negotiation. Minimum one - two hours needed to see the place and read all information. However, before getting in, make sure you informed enough by research, as well. It really helps. Would not suggest to wear any flip flop or slippers since climbing on the stone and soil. Took me around one hour to find a parking lot, most of parking and garages were full. Don’t forget using google map to find Parking – Garage around. In high season, find the one a bit farther with some walk. But once you place the car in the parking, at least there are 5 other places around to visit. Staff were nice and helpful. Be careful with scams around the monuments, lost 100 Euro by one of them. You would find so many Cafés and restaurants around with affordable prices, some are really fancy and classy with tables outdoors.

  • 4/5 Faith M. 6 months ago on Google
Beautiful architecture with information explaining certain buildings. I would recommend you book in advance to reduce the waiting time. It was extremely busy when we visited, I would recommend going early or off peak times as it can take a while to get up to the top. Wear suitable shoes as it can be a little slippery on a hot day. It is definitely worth the visit, the views are incredible.

Iconic spot of Athens! It has amazing views of the city but also the acropolis is really cool to see up close. You can’t Bob and weave through the exhibit but you can see what the city of Athens is doing to restore the acropolis. Highly recommend attending this national monument!

Very clean. It was busy, but easy to gain entrance and explore. Wear shoes with good support and traction. The marble surfaces can be extremely slippery and uneven. I would set aside about 3 hours to see this sight.

  • 5/5 Jack R. 6 months ago on Google
Amazing history and everything is so well-done with the restoration work. Just thinking about the thousands of years of history and the amount of people that have been there was crazy to think about. The crowds are huge which is to be expected but they are starting to try to limit the amount of visitors to a cap of 20,000 to help preserve the site. Come early to get a head start on the big groups that usually arrive at 9am. If you buy your tickets in advance verify the policy to get them validated, there is a new system so even the “skip the line” tickets you had to wait in line after some miscommunication between the workers.
