I have had the opportunity, and the privilege, to meet Lewis Harley during the IDC -Instructor Development Course-, in his role as Course Director (Pro Blue / Dive Charters)- and thanks to his help, advance through the different stages until Successfully pass the Instructor exam, and make a dream come true of being a PADI Instructor. Lewis has extensive experience as a PADI diving instructor in all specialties and has made instructing other instructors his purpose in life, transmitting his passion for responsible diving as well as the protection of the oceans. His many years of experience as an Instructor make the difference when it comes to making the complicated simple. ProBlue IDC with course Director Lewis Hartley My Instructor Development course (IDC) with Lewis at ProBlue was outlined and organised in fine detail and to the highest quality from start to finish. As a candidate I knew exactly what was expected from me from the offset, what the course was going to offer and what our end goal was. ProBlue teamed up with Dive Charters on the Rock of Gibraltar to deliver my 10-day IDC. We had the luxury of a private pool and beautiful bay for our confined water and skills training, and from Gibraltar’s Camp Bay our open water training offered a vast choice of explorative wrecks to enjoy once the hard work was done and the divers were able to play and explore the underwater world encompassing the Rock. A large classroom offered a comfortable working space to absorb all the theory aspects of the course from knowledge development and dry practical lessons to theory revision and recapping. ProBlue made sure that enough time was provided to cover and revisit, if needed all aspects of the IDC. Lewis continually remained flexible and accommodating to all our needs, ensuring that all boxes were ticked, worries evaporated and smiles a permanent fixture, ultimately putting us in the best possible position for our upcoming IE. Having only recently qualified as a DM the month before my IDC I am not ashamed to say I was a little nervous and apprehensive going into it. Those feelings didn’t last long. I felt immediately at ease with Lewis from day one, his friendly and direct approach to mentoring provided a reliable and trusting atmosphere. His drive and focus to deliver results are admirable. While his attention not only to detail but to each new hopeful’s journey, allowed space for us to grow individually as instructors and develop our own teaching styles. I was fortunate enough to be part of ProBlue’s IDC venture and am so thankful to Lewis and the team for being my mentors, guides, friends, and fellow divers.
