I just spent 4 days at this hospital in the ICU in an emergency situation, and I can’t understand all the bad reviews. This was one of THE best hospital experiences I’ve ever had. From the moment I walked in the door in the ER, to the moment my nurse walked me out to my car today…. I received top notch care from every single person whom I came into contact with. They were professional, kind and thorough in figuring out how to help me. Every person spent ample time talking to me and helping me understand what the next step in my care was. Talking to me to help me be more comfortable with every stick of the needle into my skin, there were more than 50 because that’s how many tests it took to resolve my health issue. The nurses, especially Nadia and Olga were outstanding. Professionals who are that busy, but still make one feel like you’re the only patient they have are rare. Doctors who spend more than the customary 47 seconds to deliver their generic news, also rare. I saw several doctors during my stay and they all spent ample time explaining their findings, getting input from me on what we will be doing next and helping me understand every step. Even the pharmacist spent about 25 minutes making sure I understood the medicine I was taking home, brought a demo to make sure I learned how to use it properly and answered all of my questions about the drug. I hope to never have to go to the hospital again, but if I do I WILL BE GOING TO ST. FRANCIS HOSPITAL in Federal Way. They’ve earned my loyalty for life.

Diverse & amazing care team. Can't put it into words. Just met such friendly people from entering the building and a cleaning lady (AfroAmerican) who saw how stranded we were and directed us all the way to the Healthcare team even the Doctor. Awesome services & the hospital just gives a calm environment. Their meals services is a1 Star. Get family to bring you some nutritious balanced food or you will eat uncooked food & all carbohydrates.

What great service I received here. I had major pain in my stomach and went to the ER here. When I saw the parking lot my hopes of being seen right away were diminished. My pain said go inside now. I’m telling you I’m glad I did! From the first person that asked me my information in the intake area from the very last nurse I saw, was absolute excellent service. I ended up having to get surgery done that day and be admitted to the hospital for one night and despite all that I went through.. pain wise, the experience and the staff were so sweet, kind and expedient and answered all my questions! I couldn’t be more happier with my experience at Saint Francis hospital and ER. I’m sure I’m leaving some staff out but I definitely appreciate all of them thank you the front office ladies that check you in, in the emergency room. Thank you to Akeila,Candi, Dr. Ben Friedman, Dr. Andrew Oliver,Garrett,Michelle, Robin(cat scan)Bridget, Kevin, Barbra ,Joanna,Marissa, all the girls and guys in the operating room and anyone else who made my experience so much better than I ever thought I could have. Thank you-thank you for your service ,you are truly angels especially in this time of Covid.

I only took my son to the ER in Federal Way because it is the closest. He took a bad fall coming home from the bus stop and couldn’t get up on his own nor get in the car on his own. He is 12 and on the spectrum. I truly believe that the providers at the ER should have been more patient with him. I understand they have many other people to see. However getting irritated with someone (a kid) who pulled/strained muscles in his legs and can’t lift himself from the ER wheelchair to the chair or lift himself enough to pull his pants up, after x-rays, is ridiculous. Same as telling him that his mom is too nice for pulling his pants up. That’s before taking Tylenol and ibuprofen. Next time, I will take him to Mary Bridge. I think more training on dealing with people on the spectrum is required. I believe we are all allowed to have a bad day but if you are taking care of people who have a worse day than you are, you shouldn’t be rude.

My mom went to er on Tuesday and was sent home with a walker! Today!! All the test they did they did still no answer what’s her illness? All they did was take the state medical money!! What they post on the wall is not what they practice or show! Worst! People don’t go to the emergency because they have nothing better to do they need help! But if If she didn’t have state help or she was rich or different race they would have given my mom the help or answer we wanted!

Patients diagnosed with panic attack disorder deserve treatment too instead of being discriminated against like your nurses did to me yesterday. I cannot believe how incompetent your nurses were today, they completely traumatized me. I am diagnosed with panic attack disorder and have an extreme phobia of needles so they have it in my chart that I have to be given anxiety meds so they are able to take my blood and put in an IV which they always just give me an anxiety meds shot in my shoulder (which I dont mind cause it's just a little poke and is in my shoulder which doesnt bother me because it's not going into a vain.) so today when I went in with an emergency because I had a severe allergic reaction to the meds they gave me for my sepsis infection. I told the nurses that I have to be given the anxiety meds shot in the shoulder b4 they take my blood and give me an iv and these 2 nurses, which I'm pretty sure are still in training (if they were actual nurses) decided it would be a good idea to try and hold me down in the middle of a panic attack to try and take my blood instead of looking in my chart like I asked them to in order to give me the correct anxiety meds so they could take my blood. They also didn't know the name of my Dr. that was seeing me in the ER when I told them his name (which I know because he was the same Dr. who originally pescribed my meds last time I was there) and they told me there is no Dr. here by that name so that freaked me out even more so in the middle of them trying to hold me down during a panic attack I freaked out and ran out of the er after repeatedly telling them to look in my chart for the medication I have to be given so they are able to take my blood and put in an iv because my panic attacks and needle phobia are severe and involuntary. I am now at home with a fever and infection without antibiotics because I did not get the care I needed because the nurses either didn't know what they were doing or were too lazy to check my chart or ask the Dr. for the medication I needed. At this point I don't even know if they were nurses, I wish I could have recorded how barbaric they were towards me, there is absolutely no way they have had any nurse training with how they were acting. The hand they tried take blood from hurts so bad and is swollen up like a balloon, I have never had that happen when getting blood drawn ever and they completely traumatized me. Why do you have nurses working who are too lazy to look at someones chart or ask the Dr. to see which medication they need? That is completely unacceptable and so incompetent. I would either like to speak with the hospital administrator about this or for them to be made aware of this because there is no excuse for how these nurses acted or how they discriminated against me because of my diagnosed panic attack disorder, they were downright barbaric. Another thing I forgot to mention is they also tried to lie saying that "because you have a different er Dr. than last time we can't give you the medication you need." which their lie fell apart when I told them this is the same dr. that saw me last time I was in the er. This is not a joke these are peoples lives in their hands and it's really sad. There are alot of wonderful Doctors and Nurses that work here but these 2 nurses saw me yesterday are not. Patients diagnosed with panic attack disorder deserve treatment too instead of being discriminated against like these nurses did to me.

Potential of being the Best over Multicare any day. Maternity has a good care team but if you end up with a clinician who doesn't speak English in an understanding way & adding to the fact that they speak so fast incomplete sentences expecting you to finish them...... yea good luck getting good medical advice upon leaving. Get to appreciate primary physicians & pediatricians afterwards.

We never like going St. Francis because we already know how this hospital is..it's been years though. This morning I had to bring my little sister to this hospital because she was in pain and Valley Medical is a bit far from us. We got here 2:43am. She's been walking in the back to do testing and back to the waiting room, like 6 times already. They had her sit in the waiting room with her iv fluids. This is ridiculous. I went to the car to get something for her, came back she wasn't at the waiting room. I asked the front desk, and staff in the front where she could be, they're reply "I don't know" they don't care to look. She's been feeling nausea and they don't even bother to pushed her on a wheelchair if they don't have beds to take her in the back for her testing...nooooo she walked through those long hallway back and forward. Valley Medical to me personally is a lot better because they have so many rooms, staff is always friendly and helpful. And also it's a lot quicker then St. Francis. It's almost 8am and yet still haven't got a room for her.

We took our little 3 year old boy to the emergency center at 4:30am, he had a high fever and would not drink fluids for almost 2 days. They took incredible care of him and were so nice from start to finish, everyone who helped were incredibly nice and helpful from the lady at the front desk to the nurses checking him in and checking on him to the doctor doing the diagnoses. What can I say wow God brought us to this hospital for a reason. So thankful for all of them!!

Wish I could give zero stars! Extremely rude and condescending. Without disclosing all details I showed up and my blood pressure was 186/95… they wrote it off from me just having a baby and diagnosed all the symptoms that went along with this high blood pressure as a “headache”. There was blood from someone else in our room, things that were broken in the room were held together by band aids and tape. The discharge nurse was extremely rude when I asked for all of my blood pressure readings while there. I wanted an official document to give to my provider since they wanted to just write it off. I would HIGHLY recommend going to Tacoma general instead if you can. This hospital should really reevaluate some of their staff and they way they treat everyone like a number. DO NOT GO HERE if you are postpartum or if you have had a baby within a couple of months. They will only blame everything on that. Go see a hospital that actually cares about your health.

They performed a drug/alcohol test without my knowledge or consent and then proceeded to leave me strapped to a gurney in the hallway for hours before finally saying, okay now leave, at 3am. If I could give less than one star I would, just for their complete disregard for someone suffering and disinterest in a person’s well being. I am embarrassed that I gave birth to my children in such a cruel and uncaring facility. Especially since they legally violated my rights by having tests performed without my knowledge or consent and to publish the results of those tests.

Worst ER experience of my life. I was seen by Dr. Brian J Fung . He had ZERO bedside manner. He spoke to me in a condescending fashion, and it was obvious the top priority was getting me out the door. I came in because I broke my wrist. I expressed that my pain level was at a 9, and they did nothing to treat my pain. I was not prescribed any pain medication's and sent home with a splint. I was only given 800 mg of ibuprofen after I had to ask for it. To completely ignore and fail to address my pain is barbaric. I've never seen such rudeness and lack of compassion by a doctor ever. He treated me like I was a strung out homeless person which I am not. I was there because of a rollerskating injury.

My 90 yo Dad went to ER yesterday. Has dimentia. While I was there, 2 hours in ER room, he was completely ignored. I could not flag down one single soul to speak with. What’s he to do if he needs something? Gotta pee, need drink of water, whatever. Finally after 2 hours, someone came in for blood draw. She said his nurse stops by every hour to check on him. Absolutely Not true. I was there! Horribly understaffed. Maybe all hospitals are like this???

STAY AWAY FROM HERE! Absolutely awful in so many ways. Some of the nurses I had when I gave birth were great. Other than that this place is terrible and you should stay away. 1. My husband was sick and having trouble walking. He fell multiple times in the ER but the doctor tried to discharge him because he thought he was faking it. He had developed Guillain Barre Syndrome and ended up in the ICU on a ventilator. Luckily we had him transferred to another hospital for that. If he had been sent home he could have died. 2. This hospital splits bills up by visit. So if you have multiple visits like I did during my pregnancy each visit is billed separately and considered a separate account apparently. Nobody told me this so I believed I had a payment plan but I got a letter from a collections agency saying part of my balance was sold to them. When I called, the person said my payment plan didn't apply to that visit. Why would I only set up a payment plan for part of my total balance??? No one told me that any of my bill was in danger of being sent to collections despite me having a conversation with these people at least once a month. Make this make sense! This is a dishonest business practice and everytime I call I get told something different. I was initially told I was approved for financial assistance. When I kept receiving notices I called to see why. 3 times I was told it takes a bit to go through and it will zero out soon. The next time I called I was told it was a mistake that I was approved and that I was actually denied. This was all during their data breach issue so I wasnt receiving anything by mail and couldn't look at my account online. I'm so angry but I have no way to fight this. Absolutely disgusting.

The emergency room was full so I was placed in a cubical type room with a reclining chair. I was experiencing severe static nerve pain which made waiting very uncomfortable and unbearable. It took a long time for me to be seen and I felt forgotten about in the back room. I was not offered any time of medication to offer some relief until I was close to being discharged. I was seen by Dr. Mark Kling and he had terrible bed side manner. I felt like just a number and didn’t feel like my concerns were met. I felt like the doctor was just going through a checklist of questions and didn’t truly care how I was feeling. The nurses that saw me were kind, but that was the only positive from my experience.

If 0 star were an option that would be my suggestion. My twins were born here 6 months ago and St. Francis and their parent company CHI have still not billed our insurance. I have spent 20+ hours on the phone with their new 3rd party billing company with no resolution. Repeatedly told the issue has been resolved with no luck. Sat on hold for almost 2 hours waiting to speak with a manager or supervisor but one is never available. Get promised to have a call returned by one, yet I am still waiting. The employees at the hospital say they have no way to help and hear nothing but complaints about the new outsourced billing. They have now denied any financial aid until insurance issues are resolved. Since billing and financial aid are not the same company they also claim their hands are tied. Save yourself the potential nightmare of an already stressful time and find a different hospital that does not fall under the Catholic Health Initiative name.

My care was rushed and Dr totally forgot about me he said. He did not go over results and never gave me the paperwork in needed for work. I was being discharged before he even came back to talk to me. The RN was confused as to why I had not seen the Dr yet. I was very sick and blood pressure was extremely high and I was dizzy… and when he did come he said just said monitor it from home. I felt so hopeless.

I came in the evening of 7/5/23 via ambulance due to an abscess on my tailbone. I was diagnosed with a pilonidal cyst, the doctors numbed me and drained my incision then left me lying there with only a sterile towel over it. I was told that the nurse would come in to dress my incision. No one came for over 20 minutes. I laid there for 20 minutes crying out in pain and had to press the call button several times just to get someone to check on me. I was also never given any type of test. No blood taken or urine analysis. Just touch and sight then diagnosed. 3 different people, who did not identify themselves to me, came in before I was given an unknown pain reliever via intramuscular injection. I was never told any of the medications I was given. After the injection the nurse asked repeatedly if I was ok to get up now because “we need the room”. I reminded him they still had not dressed my incision. When he went to remove the sterile towel, it had been there so long that the blood congealed and it was stuck and painful to remove. I had to ask for something to cover my incision that was at this point dripping blood down my leg. The nurse asked my mother to bandage me after the piece of gauze that was only placed on top of the incision fell off. I have never in my life experienced anything quite like this. I felt unseen and alone and deserted. I was scared and anxious not knowing what was gonna happen next or when someone would come back to check on me. This was by far the worst experience I’ve ever had at a hospital. This was already a traumatic and painful situation. The actions and lack of made it that much more of an awful experience.

I was pleased with the care I was given by the provider with whom I was scheduled. I did not however, appreciate the fact that my appointment was scheduled before my authorization was obtained by my insurance company. When I received my call from the scheduling center, they had expressed that they had the authorization and I was all ready to go. I have terrible anxiety and did not eat that whole day in preparation for my appointment, and I was not happy about having to be told to reschedule. I asked to have my insurance company called, and there I waited for the auth and was late to my appointment.

I really appreciate the ER staff at check in the front desk receptionist was fast and friendly upon arrival. The ER nurses were great. Dr. Staley and Thomas were awesome!!! Although it took 2 1/2 hours to get my CT scan...and then another almost hour and a half to find out my results from a nice and kind RN I felt kinda not important to who ever took over after Dr. Staley. As this provider never came to my room to check on me or give me my results. I had further questions that I would have felt more comfortable discussing with a doctor not an RN. Other than that everything else was upto standard. Rudy, was also very helpful giving a warm blanket. 👏🏽 Thank you St. Francis for your care and friendly attention. ❤️

To be fair…. Pre-op nurse care was amazing and thorough, Doctor care was safe and reassuring, but Post-op care was potentially fatal. After making it to recovery, I began to have an allergic reaction and was itching all over. The nurse told me that it was probably the detergent used to launder the bed sheets. She did not contact the doctor, rushed me out, and instructed me to take Benadryl on my own if it got worse. By the time I made it to my car, my mouth, eyes, face upper torso and arms were swollen and covered in a red rash. My sons rushed me to get medicine and thankfully I made it into time. It took 2 days to fully recover. Had I not been disoriented from anesthesia, I believe I would have been in a better position to advocate for myself. My 20 year old son did the best he could and helped me get help. This is a fair report of my experience. Unfortunately, I would not use this facility again, and would like to know the name of the anesthesia that was used in my care. Again the Doctors did a great job, but the post-op nurse could have cost me my life.

I’m not from here, I’m from Michigan. So being 2000 miles away from home and having to go into the hospital for severe abdominal pain is quite scary when you don’t have family or friends around. The professionalism and kindness of the hospital staff totally made up for it! I’m a big baby when it comes to getting poked by needles and everyone that I ran into understood and was empathetic and reassured me if I didn’t want to get blood work done I didn’t have to. Thanks to Payton (I hope I’m spelling that right 😭) who made me so comfortable, I was able to man up and get the shot. Even after the blood work and when I had to get a cat scan or MRI done she talked me through everything that was happening and what my blood results meant. I can not talk more highly of my nurse and doctor and the whole hospital, I would definitely recommend going here.

We took my dad here because his PCP was concerned about his decline since 2 weeks prior visit. It was a complete joke!!! While in the triage his oxygen was in the 80’s and they acted like it was nothing. The only good thing while sitting in the waiting area was they started getting X-rays and blood work started. NOT ONE TIME DID THE DR ACTUALLY LAY HIS HANDS ON MY DAD!! Not once! DIDNT listen to his heart and lungs. No one went over his meds except to ask me if he’s on antibiotics! When they asked my dad his pain level he told them a 10 and they NEVER addressed that! LITERALLY I CAN KEEP GOING ON HOW BAD THIS EXPERIENCE AT THIS HOSPITAL WAS! WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO OUR HEALTH CARE!!! MY DAD IS 82 he should not be treated so carelessly. JUST ONE MORE THING. When doing a urinalysis they took the sample out of his catheter bag not a sterile sample . Tell me how can you get the best results if you are not be sterile. I DONT FREAKING UNDERSTAND HOW CAN YOU PRACTICE LIKE THIS!! This review isn’t even a 1 it’s a negative 10!🤬😡😢😭

I wish I could put zero stars. At least for the ER. They seem to have no regard for the elderly. My mom was injured last weekend, bleeding profusely. Nurse totally disregarded doctor's orders to bandage properly and for us to wait an hour for bleeding to stop. Mom is on blood thinners, 86 with dementia/Alz. We were treated awfully by this nurse. I requested she be talked to, but am considering formal complaint. That ER is a snake pit.

I have been here twice since March. So the first part will be the latest visit, last week. During the heat I became super dehydrated, by my own hand, at 11pm, I had to go to the ER for I'V fluids. I was treated great, everyone was on their toes. The doctor was the only MD on shift and was doing great. He was young and good looking, so it really didn't matter about other stuff going on. My blood work was great and I got to go home after 3 hours. The only thing that went wrong was the RN put me in a wheelchair and put me at the front door, just left me there. The rest of the story just shouldn't have occurred. I was in a car accident in March, I had 8 broken ribs and my chest bone was broken as well. I spent 3 days in PCU and the rest in a double room. With the few really bad aides, most of the girls were excellent, they are all very overworked. I was not the best patient needing to move in bed, having to stay flat, I tried so hard to be nice, but a couple of the girls just got on my nerves. The nurses for the most part did their job, they pitched in to help the aides, a couple acted like they were better than us. I liked that I had the same doctor for my 17day stay, but the best thing I got once I could eat was the salmon for baked fish day. You could pick your own food if you are non-restricted. I had to quit smoking abruptly and that may have played into my mood, but here I am 125days later still cigarette free. And as a woman who always had to pee (from all the water), the fancy new pee catcher is a godsend. For those reading, just remember the hospital is not a vacation for anyone, make your life easier making life easier for those helping you.

I moved out to Washington from Texas almost a year ago and my insurance lapsed due to a clerical error leaving me uninsured, so I was very skeptical about going in to a hospital here, mostly due to the way I was treated without having coverage in Texas. I was very surprised by how well the staff treated me at St. Francis in Federal Way. Toni especially went above and beyond as well as Erik M Gerdes MD. Thank you so much for helping me get well. The world needs more people like the ones working at this hospital.

What should have been a simple x-ray procedure was anything but. Confusion regarding if it was a walk-in appointment or needed to be scheduled remained throughout, a 1:00 AM appointment time was eventually made (only discovered in confirmation process), they asked if I had a driver the day of the now 1:00 PM appointment (No, because I’ve not been made aware of any x-ray that requires one), the nerve blocks didn’t work the first time (and only partially the second), and to top all of this off, there was a MAJOR privacy violation that I am morally obligated to report. It was a mess start to finish, and now I’m told the x-ray results didn’t show the damage I was sent there for. Based on my experiences, I would advise against CHI if you have another option.

My stay was barely memorable ,just glad to leave. The room had a lady with a terrible cough. She didn’t cover her mouth at all. It was my mistake not to say something to a nurse. My assumption was she had allergies and the nurses knew. So come three days later my cold began. Why would I or anyone else want to stay with someone like that?. So here I am with a new knee replacement and big cough. Hope the good weather holds out! Carol odell

At the clinic they took great care of me. I would say that the pre-procedure instructions could be more clear—getting the timing right in a colonoscopy is kinda key and the instruction left a lot to interpretation

I LOVE ST. FRANCIS HOSPITAL.. I would recommend you guys to absolutely everyone I care about, acquaintances, and people I dont even know. I had my son there 11 years ago and I drive there to go to the ER all the way from auburn because I love them so much. I trust them with my life and my family's lives and they have treated me amazing every time. Every experience I've had there has been a great one. Despite having to be sick to go there of course. They always take amazing care of me and my family. Thank you guys so much!

I was impressed by everyone who took part in my care. They were kind and took extra steps to make me comfortable and relaxed. I never felt rushed or just another patient in the many patients they see. I'm grateful to them for making an uncomfortable and scary experience so much better than I had anticipated.

I was housed for 3 days in an ER room which had not been cleaned prior to me being placed there. There were clothing, needles and bloody bandages on the floor to which my clothing was added. I am light sensitive so the room was kept dim. When my meal came there was not enough room for the tray on the little metal table so they removed the dishes from the tray and placed directly on the table. I ate the food and when they removed the dishes the table was covered in dried blood (not mine) and a white powdery sustance onto which my cutlery had been placed. Needless to say I vomited my dinner, the nurse cleaned the table and nobody would discuss the situation with me. When I brought the issue up with the doctor I was told it had nothing to do with my medical treatment or her. This hospital does not have a patient advocate and I never saw any admissions people, I was not briefed or consulted regarding my care and was denied my normal prescriptions for approximately 21 hours. They did however give me Valium to try to calm me down. I have never been exposed to care like this not even in third world countries. This hospital is an absolute horror show. Never again.

My ER experience was very good. There was only a couple of people ahead of me, which was great. The nurses and the doctor explained everything that was going to happen and I felt heard and understood. My doctor sent a good amount of time with me and we felt that she was very through.

I had the worst experience in this ER over Labor day weekend. I went in with a horrible hip pain, could barley move, had been to 2 Urgent care priors in the period of 2 weeks. By the time I decided to go to the ER I was getting worst by the minute. Dr Fowler was not only arrogant but I was never taken to a private room. He kept talking about his own issues and his mothers and that they had to deal with them on their own. I was never asked to go to a private area, nor was performed a physical. He sat down in the waiting area and talked to me in front of every one while I was crying in pain. He told me he can only help people with heart issues or broken bones. I told him I needed an MRI and he told me they did not have any techs available; mind you that this is the ER at the hospital. After hearing that he can not do anything from me I asked to escalate or for a patient advocacy person and he said there was non over the weekend to help me. I have been trying to reach out to the COO of St Francis to share my experience but have been unsuccessful

I was at this hospital for non-emergency surgery last month. The doctor and all the staff were great and did an excellent job. The hospital quoted me a price of $700-800 before I had the surgery, and then billed me for over $3,000. The surgery could have been postponed to give me time to save for it if I had known the actual cost. The hospital either made an enormous mistake or they were dishonest with me, and in either case they have refused to make it right or even admit to it. I regret going to this hospital, and if you are reading this, I hope I can steer you away.
