There is no longer a weekly market held at this location, following years of council intervention it ceased a few years ago. Centuries of tradition replaced by an ever changing, paving scheme in the former market place. Now it is simply another dead place in Bishop Auckland..

Nothing special, I can't see how it's still called the market. Stalls have been gone for years now. Couple of shops and a cafe.

Balaclava sale on first stall as I entered, quite odd to see. A once rich and proud town trying to reinvent itself. Good luck town.

Went for the food festival it was ok but very long queues for some of the more popular stalls which should be expected

Unfortunately not as good as it used to be but that'd be down to the council charging for parking in the town centre killing it while tindale retail park thrives with free parking.

A scary shopping centre, like Sean of the dead! Beautiful buildings but lots derelict, deer park stunning, vintage tea rooms amazing, a real contrast.

Controversial Monoliths that begin to warm the Heart. The 'Angel of the North' was One of them ; yet NOW A Crucial Part. This Building is More Functional ; Supplying Tickets, Information and Views. Quietly : Bishop Auckland is becoming a Cultural Centre : Climbing the Ratings, In News. Ample Parking : Historic Buildings : Welcoming Facilities : Kynren to See. Eventually ; Newgate Street WILL Respond, with Shop Fronts Cleaned up : It Needs to Be! The Bishops Park, a Wondrous Place of History O'er 1200 Years. A Tranquil Walk midst Birds 'n Tree ; Perhaps Calming Latent Fears.

So sad to see it empty, thinking back to my youth and the vibrant market town it was....very smart in places but lost its heart many years ago 😢

No such thing anymore unfortunately used to be a massive market on a Saturday now it’s pathetic really have absolutely ruined the best bits of bishop I’m not normally negative with my reviews but absolutely unbelievable how bad it is today there was a half baked attempt at a fruit stall out the side of a transit van and some very overpriced sweets out the side of an ice I genuinely pathetic

Brilliant day out every culinary deliight from around the globe to try samples of .. cheeses.. wines etc and a cookery show very impressive. We listened to a man playing bag pipes and young lads singing (busking) steel band in the market also other sellers with interesting ideas sunny day helped 😀

Used to be a mess granted but at least it had some sort of character. These days its a lot of the smaller shops in bondgate and the back alleys areas that are doing the heavy lifting of attracting people to the market place such. Not sure what that new brown stone monstrosity in the castle grounds is about looks hideous alongside that stupid flipping tower, why not make a covered rooftop restaurant and bar.

Good disabled parking. Rude staff in Spanish Gallery. Complete opposite in Fox's Tail and Fifteas Vintage Tea Room. Corned Beef Hash in the latter was excellent. High Street leading off Market Sq desperately in need of regeneration.
