On our way from Hartlepool to Newcastle we wanted some breakfast and Googled! Salt house came up and it was an excellent choice. Warm friendly staff greeted us. Hot plates filled with high quality ingredients. Kippers for me. Full breakfast for hubby. Good clean toilets. Comfy surroundings on beach front. What more could you want!!

The Salt House Kitchen is one of the best food destinations in Sunderland, for both breakfast and Sunday lunch. The cafe also boasts a wide selection of homemade desserts and scones for eating in or taking away which is refreshed often. The food is always outstanding and the service is always friendly and attentive. A must visit in the Seaburn area.

Food was just ok, nothing special. Staff were chaotic - it seemed like none of them knew what they were doing - down to being told certain menu items were off when they were in fact the only ones on. The atmosphere was therefore impacted. Drink service took forever, despite not being that busy. The drinks then came out one by one. Overall - the place clearly tries hard but it just misses the mark on so many aspects.

Decent full English but only one sausage. Atmosphere , decor and service all spot on didn't even wait 25 mins for my food but it was a full English so probably already prepared On sea front so parking bit poop.

Lovely place and staff. Had fish finger sandwich, it was huge and delicious. Husband had steak and caramelized onion ciabatta, he thoroughly enjoyed it. Asked for side of chips. Again really good. But didn't really need them due to portions. Definitely recommend.

We had a gorgeous Brunch here. We really enjoyed it. Really delicious food, staff very Friendly and helpful. We had Our 8month old daughter with us. Loads of high chairs available and a menu for kids too. Will def eat here again.

We have been twice for brunch as a family of three and loved it both times. The first time we were staying at a nearby hotel but weren't checking in until later so looked for somewhere nearby to eat we decided on the Salt House because it looked nice and were so glad we did. Breakfast was served until 11:30 so my husband was chuffed and went for full English, my son who is three had fried eggs on toast as he likes dipping and I had the kippers. They were all beautiful so when we recently popped for the day we tried it again. My husband and son had the same but I had the salmon which was so good too. I highly recommend it. The service was great, the toilet was clean and nice though not very easily accessible for disabled guests, the only problem was the decor was so nice I felt guilty when my son dropped crumbs all over it.

Decor lovely. Food average. Service very poor & management rude. Visited for the 1st time today fir brunch. Were welcomed, told to sit anywhere & they’ll bring menus. 10 minutes later told to move tables & given menus by someone else. Original lady came back instantly & asked if we were ready to order before we even had a chance to read menu. Hot drinks brought over but had to wait to ask for sugar. Food was nice. Asked for bill so waitress brought it over with a card machine & we had to actually ask to see bill as she kept hold of it. Paid bill & left a tip. 5 minutes later even though my daughter still had half a drink we were asked to leave as they needed table for the 2 people waiting in a room with 3 other empty tables. £40 for breakfast & Iv had better service in McDonald’s

Lovely setting and food but chairs were stained and tables could do with a deep degrease. However service and food top notch...and right across from the beach. So, walk to build up your appetite or if you have eaten too much and easy to as the food is delicious so you can walk it off to.

A group of 6 of us were staying in Seaburn and decided to try here. Beautiful setting, top notch food. So good we booked for breakfast the next day. Shout out to the staff whom were very knowledgeable about the vegan food on the menu.

Superb place for whatever time you want to chill out in an amazing location, usually try to come here every weekend for breakfast which is absolutely unreal, Sunday lunch is up there with one of the best I've ever had. Staff are faultless, decor and atmosphere are superb and prices are very good given the quality of food. Would recommend trying to book a table as it obviously gets very busy In my opinion the best place in Sunderland by a mile to eat 👌👌👌👍

A lovely couple, Zean and Chloe who we met the night before at Victors in Sunderland, told us about this place just 8 minutes from Sunderland. What a cosy place right on the beautiful seafront at Seaburn. Fantastic quality breakfast and lovely coffee. It had a real boudoir feel and there were lots of yummy mummies and ladies who lunch there enjoying the velvet cushioned chairs and, no doubt the great cooking. A lovely cosy place with great food and a lovely sea view.

so nice we came back the next day for more ;) eggs royale is divine, good coffee with latte art on top staff very informed regarding allergens and very accommodating to small changes on their menu to adapt to gluten free.... thank you would definitely come back. (maybe for one if those amazing looking home made scones that I didn't have this time around)

Superb brunch of hot smoked salmon, avocado and creme fraise on sourdough - delicious and highly recommended!!

  • 2/5 Fi T. 1 year ago on Google
Service slow. Food disappointing, especially given the price for what tasted like standard cafe fare. Tables way too close together, done due to size of place to allow for more covers. Place looks great, but will not be returning

2nd Vist here and Excellent again. Breakfast is up there as one of the best I've had (Quality), great atmosphere!. Will be recommending! 👌🏻

I wouldn't recommend that place! I have been there a few times and I always found it a bit expensive but I liked the location and the views so I always came back there..till now! Last time I went there I ordered a cappuccino and avocado toast...what a big mistake.. the cappuccino tasted really really bad! And then I waited one hour for my toast ... and when I was finally being served ... I god only 2 small slices of bread with avocado on top with some spices! It was a sandwich not a TOAST! Not to mention I wanted one hour and the waitress did not even apologise. Plus the toast was more than £7..£7 for 2 small slices of bread with avocado and spices on top.. The photos are from other times I have been there!

Been at hospital all morning with a family member so ordered a Sunday lunch from here. It was just perfect, one beef and one lamb. Ample to eat and plenty of variation, i dont think they can improve it. All in all a great Sunday lunch.

I enjoyed my visit to Salt House Kitchen. The only thing that I was surprised with was the portion of the food. You would expect two sausages in a big breakfast, not just one. The bread used with the special breakfast is amazing. The atmosphere is lovely and if there is no table available you can wait at the sofa area until there is one.

Wonderful meals from a warm & friendly staff. Lovely restaurant with good seats & a nice fire to keep you warm on a cold January day. All 3 of us really enjoyed our meals, Scampi, Steak & Ale pie & beer battered fish that my Dad could not finish !! All 3 meals + 4 soft drinks for £50. Well worth it.

This is the best place in Sunderland for a full breakfast, their vegetarian breakfast is beautiful as well. Good size coffees and drinks. Very reasonably priced for the quality of ingredients you get. Hands down one of the best restaurants in the north east.

We had a fabulous time and lunch here for my mother in law's birthday. We did reserve a table for 1PM which was wise given how busy it was. We ordered 2x fish and chips, onion rings, potato skins and 1portion of mussels. The fish was huge but beautifully cooked, the chips were golden brown and chunky and it came with mushy peas and tartar sauce. My wife said her mussels were delicious. There was a nice selection of homemade cakes desserts and scones. We order the lemon drizzle for the birthday girl and the staff put a little candle on it. It was also delicious. The wine and beers were good and the staff were friendly and helpful. The price was reasonable and I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone.
