It has been quite some time since we have felt confident enough to enter an area such as Durham Market. Today was the day, and we were more than pleased to see the vast array of goods available. It would be very difficult to list the various individual categories available in the market. Stall holders are very happy to assist with purchases. We spent nearly an hour ambling around the site. Well worth a visit, although it is difficult keeping your wallet in your pocket. UPDATE APRIL 2022 Durham Market is a joy to visit. The attraction of a variable selection of market stalls makes a visit a must. We visited today and were looking for specific items. We found the items in no time. Assisted by friendly stall holders who were quite happy to take the time and point us in the right direction.

Loads of market sellers. Everything located inside by the city square. I found a retro toy stall and bought loads of star trek ships. There is a guitar shop too. Some stalls do not have aisles big enough for wheelchairs.

I am notvthat thrilled about the place, but, and there is a great "but" - one of the stalls, which is actually a multi-stall is a gem: Row Bazaar. They sell rugs, lamps, small furniture, cushioncases etc from Turkey. It's a celebration of colours and fabrics and you'd be spoiled for choice. Highly recommended!

Light and airy and an ideal place for a quick drink. It is situated just outside the marketplace in Durham and we settled there with friends for a drink before they went to get a train. The toilet facilities were clean and tidy. They are suitable for people in wheelchairs or a parent with a buggy.

A quirky market hall with many traditional and some not so traditional traders. If you're browsing Durham, you really should drop in here, if just to take in the atmosphere.

A great array of artisan stalls and those type of stalls that people find hard to find elsewhere. health foods, phone and watch repairs, floor coverings, cleaning and DIY supplies, gift stall, antiques, plants, Turkish homewards, electrical goods and hardware, locksmiths, dance wear, flowers, fossils, etc. Worth a couple of hours of your time, spend some money, have a coffee and a cake and help their businesses.

Very interesting and varied range of stalls and products. Easy to get around for the mobile but the aisles are tight & may not be suitable for motorised mobility vehicles.

Great place to visit and browse. Too many stalls to mention here, but there is a record shop, a CD shop, haberdashery, fish monger, to name a few.

A great place to nose about and lots of interesting, independent shops and stalls. I particularly like the second hand clothes and the handmade lighting. Big second hand vinyl selection, lots of different foods, old toys and games, and loads more. Easy to spend a couple of hours, then there's a nice cafe too.

Plenty of lovely stalls in the old market building with interesting variety, from your typical market wares to bookshops, trinket shops and more. Nice little cafe upstairs with plenty of seating. Great atmosphere.

Lovely little place Durham, we went down on a Thursday was really hoping a market to be on but I'm not too sure if or when they hold them, there is an indoor type market but its the same stalls that's there, there is a lovely little cafe upstairs in the indoor market that did amazing fruit scones and a nice brew for a quick refreshment..

Durham Market used to be fantastic. It is now a little tired and worn. The amazing cheese shop has lost its gloss since it was taken over too. The fishmonger remains fantastic, however.

Each time I go to Durham I have to visit the market place. The shops are very varied and some of them are very specialist which I like. Shops of note are the rock & fossil outlet, the weapon store & the geek den which sells a myriad of movie memorabilia and figures. It's a must see for any visitor to Durham.

Nice little market not too big; has fishmonger, butchers, cheese counter, veggie store, record shop, Turkish light store, toy shop, coffee and most importantly real Ales alcohol plus many other stores. Closes early about 4pm minutes which is why I have taken one star off.

Whatever you want you can buy here. When you're finished you can buy a nice cheap meal in the cafe. Easy access for wheelchairs but I'm not sure about toilets. Well worth a visit

It's ok, there are some nice shops like the fish monger and green grocers, but overall it's very disappointing in comparison to the Newcastle one. I know it's a lot smaller, but street food-wise there's nothing. You'd think there would be some choice, at least. It's also very packed in and hard to navigate. I think they could improve business a lot by widening up the walkways and making it much more welcoming, even if there were less room for traders. The opening hours are also very poor, closing at least an hour earlier than all of the shops in the centre do. I'm sure many traders would be happy to open longer if allowed. Overall I'd recommend whomever manages it to go visit Newcastle's markethall on a Saturday and see the difference. The street food and walkability is what attracts people in, allowing the less profitable businesses to thrive.

Very friendly market our grandchildren were amazed how many toys they could buy with their Easter Egg money. Much better for them than chocolate.

Lovely market square with seating. Statues to look at, a church here too, but someone said that it was modern inside. I did not visit. Lots of shops and an indoor marketplace

A great little indoor market full of a huge variety of goods. From precious gems, Turkish lights, to a fishmonger and sweet shop. There's a few toy stores as well as a weapons shop and small guitar centre. You'll be sure to find what you're looking for at the general store area for home improvements!

Lovely market. Good range of stalls selling good variety of products. Now know where to come if I ever need a crossbow. Other markets should take notes on how things are run here. Nice experience. Lovely cafe too.

Love Durham market, just the place it's in is fascinating. It has a decent mix of stalls to browse. Have to visit as it's been around since 1850.

Well worth a visit. Stallholders are friendly and helpful. Great range of products. Daughter bought a twisted silver, copper and gold plated ring when we visited during the festive break. Bought a variety of cheeses from the well stocked deli which Lisa runs and is very friendly and approachable.

Uniquely British old market hall with dozens of appealing shops and stalls in a labyrinthine layout. A wonderful, if slightly cramped experience with plenty on offer from food and drink to guns and guitars.
