I literally can’t describe how great this place is. Came here for lunch and was not disappointed in the slightest. The staff are friendly and really helpful, the food is amazing (really tasty and well presented), and the place is well tidy and neat. We will definitely be coming back here.

Lovely stay. Staff exceptional. Everyone without exception was friendly and helpful. Special shout out to ( I think) Wayne?? Lovely red haired waiter/ bar staff. The nicest young man, friendly, approachable and impeccable good manners. Honest Lawyer management...take note!!!! From arrival to departure, we were so well looked after. As a retired hotel manager, I rarely review so highly. Only downside was a 4 poster room I booked for my family. Very disappointing. Curtains hanging off...need attention, and decor very dated. I would have raised at the time but family didn't want me to. The motel room I stayed in was fine...small, but everything I needed...perhaps new pillows??? All in all, I would be happy to return.

The location was wonderful for some awesome nature walks. The Hotel was a non starter as far as the rooms. Our first room which was an upgrade was very dirty. When we opened the door I found a large squished spider stuck to the wall. The mirror was smeared with something. The bathroom was awful by anyone's standards. There was splatter on the tiles next to the commode, the actual toilet rim was dirty under the seat and both the basin tub / shower were surrounded in black mould. It was with trepidation I showered in that environment. The bed was also very worn out and uncomfortable. I was embarrassed to go to reception but I had to ask for a different room. We were given a deluxe large room, however it was dirty as well. The bed was great and very comfortable but again the bathroom was on the awful side. The taps on the tub were very loose and did not shut off properly. The shower had been bleached but I could not manage to turn it on. The bar was clean and the food was good. Public doors where grubby and hard to understand how the hotel interpreted the word clean. After the Pandemic one would expect touch areas in common spaces to be clean. We were happy to check out.

Stating with the positives, the hotel is dog friendly and the view out of the bedroom windows is lovely, into the fields. It's also relatively quiet and peaceful. Unfortunately, it's not all good news; the rooms are TIRED. The carpet was thin and crunchy (not stuck to the floor properly). The bathroom was chipped and cracked all over, there was a shower curtain (like the 80s - grim) and the sink didn't drain properly. Finally I barely slept either night as the pillows were the thinnest and meanest I've ever had the displeasure of laying my head on. I feel bad leaving negative reviews usually, but being charged £80 for a night just feels wrong with this quality (for reference I'm in a Hilton tonight that was £45). Lastly, this should be billed as a motel, not a hotel. Think schitts creek.

Lovely service 😊 let us book in early friendly stuff , well situated car park. an easy walk to the rooms , Rooms themselves spacious with modern amenities and free WiFi . My only comment would be that some of the rooms such as the bathroom could use a little update or TLC.

Stopped at the Honest Lawyer so often it’s like a second home. Clean, well equipped rooms, great selection of ales, real fire, great menu, quality produce used in the kitchen & the breakfast is pure quality.

Staying here, our first room was terrible, black mould in the bathroom, dusty and the carpet was badly stained. Not what we expected having paid the extra to upgrade the room. We spoke to the receptionist Sophie who was very accommodating and apologetic. She said she would sort a new room out for us as soon as she could. We went out for the day, and true to her word she did sort another room out. The new room is much bigger than the last one, still some issues with dust and dirt, but an improvement on the previous hovel of a room. Apart from the shower doesn't work, the taps drip, the room is over the bar, so no chance of a good nights sleep. Staff on the first day were very friendly, then they had a change of staff who were not frendly. We had dinner in the bar, good value for money and very nice food. Lovely walks close to the hotel. A hotel let down dramatically by their shoddy rooms. Avoid at all costs.

Attended a Wake, the service was pretty good, food was good quality and there was plenty to go round. Ate an evening meal which was decent value for money. Rooms were quite basic, pretty cold at night as the radiator was turned off and obscured by the curtain. Overall pretty good value for money, and close proximity to the Crematorium. I would definitely stay there again.

Great friendly hotel, with real fire, nice chatty staff, good drink & food selection and nice comfortable reasonably priced rooms. Great access to A19 & A1 road systems nearby.

Didnt expect much but was very pleasantly surprised. Lovely little courtyard room and excellent little pub/restaurant. Recommended.

Very convenient location close to Durham city centre. The staff were friendly and always smiling. The rooms were clean and spacious. Bonus the parking spot outside each room. We also tried the Sunday roast at the restaurant. Big portions and nicely cooked. Got the cheesecake for dessert. One piece was enough for two people! Would definitely visit again.

So the rooms are functional and the bed is comfy, it's just a little dated and could do with modernising especially in the bathroom. Breakfast wasn't to bad, however, evening meal was hot or miss.

The staff is really good and accommodating, I had a trouble with warm water which was my mistake but they helped out and offered if I wanted to change the room. Variety of options for breakfast whether it be cereals / toast / croissants / warm eggs or a delicious coffee. The room was pretty clean, had tv cable, live football channels, options for youtube / netflix. 10/10 from me.

Nice place to stay, they have dog free rooms so as someone who has allergies it was great. Rooms are like butlins chalets but nicer. Staff friendly, it's on a bus route so good for getting out and about.

I don't understand how the reviews are so good for this hotel. We stayed as a group booking in January. We were in one of the outside rooms. The room which was supposed to be a family room just wasn't suitable for my family of 5. £130 for the night I would of expected it to be of a very good standard. Instead we got a dinghy smelling and extremely cold room with a radiator that didn't work. There was no window or fan working properly in the bathroom so when you had a shower (no bath but wet room) the whole room was soaking wet so the next time you used the toilet it the seat was wet! It would of been warmer to walk outside to take a shower then to go into the bathroom. There was 5 of us all in one small room with 4 single beds meaning I had to share a single bed pushed right against the wall with my 1 year old and got hardly any sleep. Plug sockets loose from the wall and unsafe to use. Instead of booking another night we booked a different hotel with double bed, bunk beds and a cot in a lovely room with breakfast for £80 so I'm not sure why this hotel is so expensive

Stayed for 2 night whilst working in Edinburgh. Nice clean room, good selection for evening meals. Good breakfast selection. Excellent staff who are very professional, cheerful and helpful. Special mention to the night ported Damien. Would definitely use again. Only slight negative was noise from next doors guest.

Service is always good. Had a couple of drink sat outside in the sun. Also had the cheese board which was a little disappointing this time had it a few times before but there seemed to be less on this time. Still was good value for money just not as impressive will still be back.

One of a few pet friendly hotel close to Durham. The receptionist is very friendly. However the room is full of smoke and I can't even clear it out by opening the door for 2 hours.

I only stopped for lunch. Had the Parmova chicken, absolutely delicious with a glass of soda and lime. It wasn,t cheap for lunch but well worth it. The meal scores over ten out of ten!! If all other meals taste as good, I will recommend.

I can honestly after being here 3 times it has always been very disappointing. My partner and i have been placed in positions near the loo or doorway when the restaurant is vertually empty and the last time we went, we were put in a lovely spot but then a group of louts still stinking from the night before were put beside us, swearing and being obnoxious. The food is average at best and the service is terrible, it almost felt like our custom wasn't wanted. I can only presume that it's some sort of class based bias, maybe I need to buy a suit and dress shoes to be respected enough as a customer, little do they know I'm a professional athlete and a self employed business man. 3 strikes and your out for us, I would avoid this place unless you enjoy disrespect.

Some friends and I met here for a meal recently and really enjoyed it. The food was delicious and portions were generous. The staff were very young, but so friendly and professional. I was impressed. Apparently it's due for refurbishment soon, so I look forward to going back. The only negative is that the menu is pretty limited. I would have liked to see more vegatarian choices.

A road trip to Durham staying two nights at this hotel on the A 167.The hotel is well situated for downtown Durham and there's an added bonus of a bus stops outside the hotel. The hotel team were very welcoming and eager to make sure the residents had a good experience. A good restaurant with an excellent menu proving to be very popular with the locals for Sunday lunch. The bar restaurant well stocked managed sometimes by the owner and always by an efficient and friendly team member. The hotel room was as expected and I had a very pleasant experience. Thanks to Jason, Demi, Shannon and Emma, for your excellent service.

Stayed over for a business trip and it was delightful. The beds were comfortable and clean, the room was spacious and the bathroom was sparkling. Food was delicious, sizeable starters, the mains were packed with flavour and left me feeling great. Would definitely recommend staying here.

This was the venue we chose when we visited Durham for a few days for son's graduation (he did very well, thank you for asking). All very polite and helpful (they delivered the ironing board and iron as requested). A la carte breakfast very tasty. Great location and easy to find

Perfect if looking for a dog friendly hotel. Rooms clean, comfortable and quiet. Staff friendly and happy to have the dogs in the bar during the day. Breakfast was an excellent self service buffet and again our dog was welcome sat under the table. Will use this hotel again.

Staff and manager are so friendly and helpful. Good surroundings and good atmosphere. Sat next to the lovely inviting log fire. Didnt want to come home. Come for a meal many times, tasty and well presented. Also ideal place for a drink. Certainly recommend.

Perfect pub for stopping off after a dog walk at nearby Low Burnhall Woodland Trust or Weardake walk from Sunderland Bridge. Staff are very friendly, helpful and accommodating. A lovely man asked if it was ok if he could give our dogs a bowl of sausages which they thoroughly enjoyed. He was so polite and wished us a wonderful day. The fire is very cosy and the chunky chips are top notch.
