Unfortunately the museum is almost empty only a few big objects in te main hall(picture) and a very small exhibition. Very underwhelming and sad to see so little of Croatian history. Also there is no explanation what so every about the objects that are there.

This museum is so sad. It feels like a tragic ruin of a run down emptied cultural institution. So beautiful from the outside, the disappointment just strikes you hard once you get in and walk through empty dusty rooms full of spider nets between the very few artefacts we could see. Lots of explanations are random, many not translated to English. There is no airco so you feel sweaty and wrong inside. I see tons of potential but nothing carried out. I was surprised that they even sold us tickets. Was tempted to ask for a refund because we spent 100 kuna starring into the abyss. I would skip this place.

I’m a huge fan of museums wherever I travel, but this one had given up the ghost awhile back. Large empty exhibits, handwritten notes on the walls, a piano in the middle of the main hall and a strange American woman sprawled out relaxing. On top of this no air conditioning in the middle of summer.

Most exhibits were loaned out for exhibitions, but it was interesting nonetheless.

Beautiful space with some important artefacts from Croatia's turbulent past. The coin collection is quite impressive. And the reconstruction of the medieval warrior's head is fascinating. The building deserves a cafeteria and specialist shop.

I love museums. I was really looking forward to this based on reviews but honestly it was rubbish. A few nice artefacts in a massive empty space, a lot of closed off spaces, no aircon in the middle of summer. Only positive is it was free! Very disappointing.

It is one of the most beautiful place because of nature around it...but more imported it is one of oldest ih the Croatia. With lots of things to see...really recomended to go if you are in Split. Also lots of school go there with kids what is great to learn about history in reall life to see it not only read from books.

Stars for effort, sadly hardly anything left to see due to lack of funds for the locale. Sad indeed. Still worth a look though, hopefully it'll be revived.

Located in an accessible location, it has two parking placesnearby, with its spaciousness and impressive exhibits the ,place has to be visited. Especially since there are two unique places to see nearby: Meštrović Gallery and Kaštelet. The exhibits tell the story of the development of culture, showing not only the richness of the heritage, but also how much it has contributed to our present day and how important it is to know it. The staff is available and very friendly. Being in Split and not visiting these places - you would miss a lot.

It is a great museum. I went there with my sons who are 12 and 15 and they really enjoyed it. The only challenge is for English speakers not every exhibit has an English translation. I still recommend it and the walk there from downtown split is also very enjoyable.

Stuck in the eighties and with little information in English, the cost (as of June 2023) was an adequate €2 tickets for students. Not a must see, but a nice stop for a quick visit.
