Obviously some of the sights in Split, even though I don't really get why that's the case. The sculptures are okay-ish but nothing extraordinary. So yeah if you're into that form of art enjoy. Gardens and view from the terrace are also quite okay. Also included in the entrance is a chapel some two hundred metres down the street to the left, which again offers beautiful sea views.

Fantastic gallery. Full of the works of acclaimed sculpter Ivan Mestrovic, all in what was once his residence. Amazing front gardens sweep up from the sea to an imposing set of stairs and column lined patio. Various sculptures of his sit in the garden and throughout the 2 storey house. There are also a few paintings and sketches. It is a commanding view from the patio entrance and also from the terrace up on the 1st floor. About 1.5kms from the old town, a nice stroll along the foreshore. Best gallery in Split!

I would rate it even higher if I could. Mestrovic is a world class artist, his works are timeless and full of emotions and symbolism. The best site to visit in Split.

I love that gallery with a beautiful garden with many sculptures and an amazing view at the sea below. The gallery is neat and clearly marked. The sculptures are absolutely breathtaking. Entrance is 50 kunas per person with a possibility to visit a nearby chapel. Highly recommended.

Ivan Meštrović Gallery, is an art museum in Split, Croatia dedicated to the work of the 20th-century sculptor, Ivan Meštrović. The gallery preserves and presents to the public the most significant works of Meštrović, and is an art monument. The permanent collection includes works of sculpture, drawings, design, furniture and architecture. Holdings include original plaster models by the artist, as well as finished works in bronze, marble and wood. The gallery building and grounds were based on original plans by Meštrović himself, and included living and working areas, as well as exhibition spaces. Not far from the gallery lies Kaštelet-Crikvine, a restored chapel that houses a set of wooden wall panels carved by Ivan Meštrović.

A truly amazing museum housed in a equally amazing building with views to the Adriatic sea. Mestrovic is a majestic sculptor talanted and passionate as Michelangelo or Rodin.

Astonishing! Definitely a place you should visit! One of the most talented and prolific Croatian artist's home turned into this huge, very well organized museum near the seashore. It was wonderful (re)living Mestrovic's most crucial moments and emotions through his beautiful sculptures guided by the well written museum broucher. Not much of a fan of sculptures in general due to being hard to make them expressive, this guy's work made me fall in love with it.

Beautiful building with incredible views. Friendly staff. Exhibit itself a bit lackluster especially for the ticket price. Initially wanted to skip the chapel but glad I didn’t, it was very nice with incredible views of the sea 🌊

This magnificent world class artist had a rich life full of ups and downs and told the world a story about it through his artwork (mostly sculptures, but also paintings, sketches). The gallery was made by him as his studio.

The story of Meštrović by ' Olga and Ruža Meštrović storytelling tour ' is a fantastic experience. After you listened Meštrović story from his two wives perspective you will finally understand his art and motives behind it. Tour truly helps you to connect with art and the artist. Don't miss it.

Wonderful building in a delightful location. The museum itself portrays in good measure the art of the sculptor, without unnecessary details which could hinder the overall experience.

Wonderful sculpture gallery/museum dedicated to Croatia’s most prominent sculptor of the 20th Century, Ivan Meštrović, whose works are also prominently displayed around Split’s old town. The museum included full size bronzes, as well as studies, plaster models, sketches and his paintings. Worth a visit if you’re into sculpture and are visiting Split.

Very beautiful gallery with works from one of the most famous Eastern European sculptors of the 20th century. Be aware that most of his famous works are currently on loan to a gallery in Zagreb - for an anniversary exhibition - until March 2024. Even so, the museum is beautiful and the few sculptures that do remain on display are really impressive.

Absolutely beautiful gallery which such amazing and friendly staff! It's worth taking the trip to explore around and visit the Chapel. The views from second floor are stunning if you've got the perfect weather.

  • 3/5 Anne-Sophie L. 1 year ago on Google
Beautiful garden and house with great art pieces but in summer it seems the place hosts concerts at night and the material for the show is taking all the space in and out… you feel you are visiting a work-on-progress site. No one to give you the pamphlet which is the unique element to guide you through the place… a great place but improvement can be made. 50K per person with entrance to the little chapel further west after the park where some scenes of Game of Thrones were shot.

Stunning buildings and scenery. The sculptures are incredible and there's a fantastic paper guide that tells you all the history. It's a good place to get away from the heat in the afternoon. Lovely grounds and very helpful and friendly staff. Highly recommended!

A must-see gallery in Split. It contains many of Ivan Meštović's art deco (Art noveau in French, Sezession in German) style statues and paintings. There is a highly educated, welcoming staff. You may take photos, but touching the marble statues is not permitted. The gallery was a summer cottage of the artist which he donated to the city together with the collection. During the summer months, the gallery is a background to many cultural events, such as operas and similar. There is a souvenir shop on the premises. With the same ticket, you may visit 400 m south west Meštović's 'Kaštilac' where he built a church. Within the church, you will find scenes from Jesus' life carved in wood on the walls.

What a great experience, even during a storm. We walked up the hill, via Riva and the sea front, which on a a sunny day may be too taxing for some (take water or a taxi maybe). The grounds had some lovely pieces, and a real tortoise! We climbed the steps and enjoyed seeing more sculptures inside, as well as the rooms and a video about Mestrovic (one clip included him at work). The building itself is worth viewing from outside for the entrance alone. At the admission desk we were also told about the church over the road (about 10 more minutes walk). This was very tranquil. The wood panelling as well as views to the sea from the church made it worth the extra walk. If you have a Split card admission is half price. I do not believe there were toilets or a cafe on site.

(Translated by Google) Very beautiful property that belonged to the sculptor Mestrovic. The visit is done fairly quickly but the setting is really nice and you can rest on benches with a beautiful view of the sea. On the negative side, it is a pity that there is no context for the works and that the few panels are not translated into English. The ticket price includes a visit to the abbey about 300 meters away. In the latter you will find what is considered to be a masterpiece in Mestrovic wood.

(Translated by Google) This place was Mestrovic's summer village, which is beautiful and anyone who loves art will love it. Today transformed into a museum, it offers the visitor some pieces by this great Croatian artist, worth seeing in person. A few meters from there is the other property that was the artist's also where there is a church with the crucified Jesus carved in wood that Mestrovic made at the beginning of his career, as well as the tableaus of the life of Christ also carved in wood, a real beauty! If you appreciate art, you will like it; otherwise don't even bother to go.

(Translated by Google) The summer house of the most famous Croatian sculptor is located on the outskirts of Split. We toured the rooms on our own, filled with naked stone women in various poses. Some were surprisingly lacking anatomical detail. The mystery was solved in a biographical film in which the models posed for the master in underwear. From the house there is a beautiful view of the surrounding park and the distant sea.

Works of art are great and museum is beautiful, but historical revisionism is clear. Deliberately not giving a context for some peaces that are related to Yugoslavia. Political agenda is obvious. Do your own reasrch if you are interested in subject. You wont learn much here.
