This place is good to know about different types of crocodile and snakes. Description near each place gives a clarity about the reptiles. Also the snake show was the highlight here, where they give clear demonstration of the venom extraction and they broke the myths about snake. Clear explanation about venomous and non venomous snake was fantastic. Also they explain the precautions to be taken after snake bite was very informative. The persons who work in the snake show was doing great job and they hold good attitude. Best wishes to them.

An amazing place near chennai for an outing during the day. A very good ambience and a great feel of nature. There are good tree shades even in the afternoon and a cool breeze all throughout the walk,All the trees have a lot of birds and their nest. Beware of the birds while you stay under it or else you may have to find pipe to clean your head and clothes 😅

You don't have to be Steve Irwin the famous crocodile lover to enjoy this place. This is your perfect destination to leverage your weekend holidays. Aptly maintained by the staff. You will find the area well maintained with washrooms pretty neat and clean. There is a small shop inside the area to help you with some quick munchies. In case you want to check the snake venom extraction, you need to pay ₹30 extra per adult. Traveller's Tip : Avoid going around during noon as it tends to be very hot. Wear caps and sunglasses to avoid the scorching heat. Must visit! You won't find such a huge collection of different crocodile species in a single space.

All my excitement went vain seeing the maintenance of this place. Well there were so many reptiles and varieties of crocodiles here. Easy to find on Google, reasonable entrance price, clear boards history about the place makes this a must visit.some Staff are least bothered about anything while couple are good. Do visit this place to know about these wild animals and there life style, The best part of the visit for me was at the end watching the 14 feet long 30years crocodile in water was just awesome. But seriously maintenance has to get better.

It's good to see the crocodiles, Turtles, Snakes nearby the city range. Some giant turtles and snakes are there. But there is no car parking, you can put it on the main road with 20Rs charge. For kids it's free, adults 100Rs. Can spend 1hr there. Lots of birds excretion are there in the cage which creates a foul smell. possible that can be cleaned.

It's a very nice place for reptiles lovers. Everything was very well maintained.. You need a maximum of 2 hours to watch all the animals. Also, it depends on how much you like them. People like me can spend the whole day out there watching this beautiful creature. Only the thing which I didn't like, some enclosures were overcrowded. There was not enough space for them. Aldabra tortoise enclosure was too small as compared to the number of animals it holds. Also, there were no toys or structures which keep their hind leg healthy. Overall experience was good.

A wonderful place to visit for kids and adults alike. Very well maintained. Never seen so many crocodiles in one place before. All the display boards are crisp and informative. Have visited multiple times, yet would love to visit again. A perfect place to spend a day with family. Definitely worth a visit.

This place got re-pened after covid and got to visit during July 2022. Entry fee is 100rs for adults. One of the oldest Crocodile parks in India. Used to hear about strong stench in the park but we didn't smell anything of that sort. The park was well maintained and clean. Lot of trees and benches to sit down and relax. Wide variety of crocodiles are there, we were able to spot almost all of them. Didn't get to see the feeding. We saw good number of tortoises as well b Snakes are not there anymore. The glass cases are empty. And half of the park is closed may be due to maintenance after covid. The park takes approximately 1 hour to walk and see everything leisurely. Carry water and wear better shoes for walking. During afternoons, carry umbrella and wear sun glasses, it can get really sunny and humid. Be careful and don't let kids go too close to the fences. If you don't throw anything on the crocodiles and follow the protocols, then it's a good experience to visit.

Very nice zoo or simply say one of its kind. Hundreds of crocodiles at one place just amazing. Also you can see very big size turtle. Full of greenery. Underwater crocodile display was just superb. Kids are gonna love this place. Ticket prices are reasonable so worth visiting this zoo. ????

Went to this place soon after it opened after lockdown. The staff were beyond kind, really nice people. Why I highlight so much on the kind staff there is because I went in without hard cash in hand. The person who was taking care of the parking was kind enough to take a gpay payment and gave me the ticket money in hand 🥰🥰🥰. They politely ensured all wore masks and refrained the visitors from touching any of the enclosure scaffolds. Overall it was a beautiful experience. The metal snake on top of the hut is a creative artistic touch. Just cant fathom how beautiful the human life can be if we can be like those crocodiles taking undisturbed slumbers like solid rocks.

Good place to visit with kids, has so many species of crocodiles and alligators. You can see an iguana, monitor and komado dragons and turtles... You have to go before 4pm to see feeding of the reptiles. You can also see how they are extracting snake venom and they have about 100 varieties of snake.... Must go to place for kids. Please do follow the safety measures to have more fun....

Good place for kids.. but they charge 100rs.. if you ask me is it worth the money.. I would think twice.. they could develop it more and built some more interactive things.. since they are all crocodiles.. we cannot blame them also.. these crocodiles hardly move and you are luck they make few steps when you go. Add on is the live session where they explain about couple of reptiles and how they behave, and not this sessions are only on weekends.

Fantastic slice of nature and awareness and conservation! The Good: 1. Commendable efforts towards conservation 2. Mind blowing facts and stories about these awesome beings 3. The Snake Venom extraction Centre is scary and crazy awesome at the same time! Posting several photos to this review since the pictures would tell you a story that my words never can The Suggestions 1. In most of the enclosures the water appears to be unclean and turbid - unchanged since a long time. I am unsure if this a deliberate environment they create for the species. 2. Electronic payments are not accepted for entry - only cash!

This place is very attractive and informative regarding reptiles. Kids to adult everyone will enjoy this place. You keep approximately one hour to see everything. Entry fees is ₹100 and ₹20 for parking. Snake park entry fees ₹30. There are wide variety of crocodiles and tortoises. We were able to spot all of them but didn't get to see the feeding. Snake park 2PM to 3PM are close for lunch break. They have option for 3D show with additional pay. Had a great time looking at the crocodiles & other reptiles. A must visit place.

Nice place to learn about crocodiles, turtles and snakes. The area is quite shaded with trees and one can also see various birds around. We also saw the snake education show where we learned about various snakes and their behaviour. Two hours will be good time to spend in this area . They do have small cafeteria. Do keep in mind that’s it is a private initiative so they have entry fee which is 100. Must visit specially for kids

Love this place. Been there few times. You can take a walk around looking around and peeping inside the crocodile pens. Trees all around with birds so watch out, you may get unlucky with a bird poop. There are some shows/demonstration organized in specific times as well. Clean and maintained well.

The Crocodile bank had been on my list of places to visit for a long time. Finally managed to visit as I was staying nearby at a resort over the weekend. This is really a great place to bring your kids & family over and have a great time looking at the amazing crocodiles & other reptiles. I heard that they had a tough time feeding the crocs during the lockdown but hopefully they come back strong now that the rules are relaxed. There was a very good crowd on a hot Sunday afternoon with kids & elders alike marveling at the sight of the crocs moving about within their enclosures. Every enclosure has good info & facts about the reptile type, their origin etc. Only regret I had was that we missed seeing THOR - the largest croc currently at the bank. Probably it was resting after a heavy meal :) The entry fee of Rs. 100 for adults & Rs. 50 for kids is very nominal for the sights & learnings at the croc bank. I would love to come back and really wish this place to be thriving with more different reptile species.

It's a wonderful place for every age group. Fees for adult is 100 Rs and for kids 50 Rs. It's a wonderful place to watch reptiles. Crocodile and Alligator 🐊 present everywhere. The information board about it has provide all the details of the reptiles and its very good to know and read. It's almost break all the myth of the reptiles. The skin of the crocodile 🐊 has been kept as a tribute for the reptiles which came when the bank is started at 1976 and died at 2020. Fanatic place to chill out with families and best place for photography. Must watch place.

Go to this place on Sunday. The advantage of this place is not the crocodile view, but the snake view which is inside crocodile park. You can see different types of snakes specious and the snake trainers inside will give you instructions about those snakes and they will also show venom extraction (only on Sunday). I loved how these guys speaks and explain about snakes. Regarding crocodile park, yes it's good, there are many types of crocodile but what's there in crocodile they simply sleep and show movement once in a while (boarding)

But the highlight here is snake venom collection center.Very good explanation about various types of snakes and its nature and activities. You can see snakes in open place and in pot. Not like other places where you get to see snakes in glass box. I recommend this place to visit atleast once. Well maintained and ticket price 60 for adults and 20 for child....

Hundreds of crocodiles and few turtles were there. There was a snake park inside where the staffs were explaining about the types of snakes, snake bits, dos and donts after a snake bite. The entire park is kept neat and clean. Staffs were friendly and movie precautionary measures were followed.

Its an amazing place in chennai. I've Witnessed lots of crocodiles, turtles , tortoise as well as Gharials. Worthy place to spend your time during weekends. For first time it will be enjoyable and worthy. Once you've visited then it will be a boring place. Cleanliness was the drawback. They could've kept the place still more better. Though wearing mask we couldn't keep out of that stinky and nasty smell🤢😷. They can improve the place so that it will be good. I've heard that they take the venom from the snake. But it happens only once per week or 10days once. Unfortunately we couldn't witness that😪. So if you visit any weekend and if you have the fortune you can witness that Spectaculous moment. Dont visit during summer seasons you can't control the sweat we've to walk for few distance. Overall its a worthy place but they've to improve a bit in Cleanliness.

I got to learn quite a bit about the variety or crocodile/alligators. We spent about 45 minutes exploring all the reserves there and the aquarium. The places seems to not have been maintained off late - the water was green with all sorts of algae. Or may be that is how the natural habitat is of these creatures. Secondly, the numbers of crocodiles have reduces drastically - when we visited this place about 8 years ago, we could see at least 3 times more crocodiles. Since this is on en route from Chennai to Mahabalipuram/Puducherry- can visit once to see these magnificent creatures up close!

Its a one-time visit place if you're interested in reptiles and crocodiles and are interested in learning more about them. They have a large amount of crocodiles in there, though lazy but fun to watch. There are description boards every to help you identify the species of crocodile and know about them. Its not very large but gives you plenty to watch.

I’ve always loved crocodiles and alligators. When my husband and I found out about this place, we knew we had to visit! The entrance fee was reasonably priced and the enclosure seemed decently maintained. The animals look relatively well taken care of too. Removing 1 star because I’m not sure how to feel about the snake venom extraction that happens there. I’m no expert in that subject so I don’t know if it’s cruelty free.

The Crocodile Bank is a good place to see, of course, different crocodile species but also turtles, tortoises, snakes, and iguanas. A few bird species can also be seen. It's a fairly small walk to view the reptiles, and learn about them - you can spend about an hour here. A demonstration for extracting snake venom is also there, and that requires an additional ticket. A good place for photography, if you are into it, and surprisingly, they haven't yet started charging additional for a camera.

My 4 year old kid really loved it. In the venom extraction session the organizers were really interactive and gave many unknown facts. But I feel the entrance is 60 for adult and 30 for snake venom extraction which is costlier. I feel the area space has been reduced a lot compared to past years

  • 5/5 Ritesh K. 4 years ago on Google
A large collection of Crocodile is available here. Entry Fee = Rs 60 / This is located in route to Mahabalipuram (if you are going from Chennai). You can stop here during the journey and completely visit it in one hour. Wash room is available and is maintained cleanly. Small food counter is available from where you can get Tea/Coffee, Cold Drink, Snacks etc. Recommended for One-time visit.

The Madras Crocodile Bank Trust and Centre for Herpetology is a cool place to spend a couple of hours. With over 2,500 reptiles the Croc Bank is a research and breeding center as well as a place to get up close to crocs and snakes. The snakes were definitely my favorites, especially the cobras! The venom extraction is so interesting. There are many types of crocodiles with descriptions/information of each. You can also watch the crocodiles being fed. It's a nice place to spend a few hours with your family. You may even learn something....

Crocodile Park And Bank!!! It is one of the lifetime experience to watch so many of them in one place . Place is very well maintained and have a plenty of greenery all around. It is worth visiting and if you have kids do take them on weekends to learn and enjoy wonders of nature. This place is located around 45kms from Chennai on the scenic ECR. It is around 15Kms from Mahabalipuram. Located on road side, so very easy to find. Parking space is available. I visited the park on Xmas Eve and now ticket price is increased to ₹150 for adult & 100 for childern (Increased after covid), which is ok. There is one snake park inside and ticket price is ₹30. Parking charge is ₹20. Covid protocols was followed, temperature was checked and hand sanitized before entering the park.

The Crocodile Bank Trust also called Centre for Herpetology, is situated approximately an hour and a half drive from Chennai towards South. The tickets are priced reasonably. It's open till eveing 6pm. It has a largest collection of reptiles in India. You could see exotic varieties of crocodile like Nile crocodile and salt water crocodile, and largest and biggest Tortoise. The bank also hosts hourly show to showcase some exotic snakes and their traits and behaviour. Children should be escorted properly and supervised as there are few reptiles who are capable of jumping quite high. It was a quite a surprise to see so many species of reptiles at one place. You must visit this Bank if you are visiting Chennai.

It's probably never been cleaned since it started. Many crocodiles are hurt and was bleeding. They charge a lot of money, but they don't spend it for keeping that place clean .. and the snake park within that, was so lousy. The snakes are half the size of what we see outside. Don't think they take care of those animals .. I think it needs to be shut down.

Sailed through some tough times during covid-19 lockdown, they have managed to preserve and maintain the premises and inhabitants. This place is a treat to kids, they get to learn a lot. It takes about an hour to cover all enclosures. There is a small canteen inside towards the end, serving tea, fresh juices and snacks. The weather feels humid and Swamy, although temperatures are relatively lower than outside, due to the cover of trees and vegetation. The crocs always seem to be relaxed and asleep, but that's their normal routine. There are also turtles and migratory birds that can be seen along with the crocs. There are no alligators here, but maybe we will get to see them later. Enclosures can be adopted by anyone to support the management in care and maintenance.

I feel the crocodiles need a better environment.

If you are on the way of visiting Mahabalipuram, than this place must be on your iternary on the way. Especially both children and old will love this crocodile park. There are various species inside including crocodiles. Snakes, birds and other animals are also an added attraction here. Since it falls on the highway there is limited parking space and please check it. They strictly follow the park timings so be on time and don't come in a hurry. Was a good time spent here. Very well maintained, the condition of animals was good when we had visited.

A good place to take kids on weekends. They have good collection of crocs. Other than crocs, they also have turtles, snakes. We went there at 10am, moat of the crocs and other reptiles were not active. The distance for public view and crocs were too far away. Couldn't get to see any croc up close. There was also no paid feeding area or time for crocs. Just like lolaang or Gustav, we should also have India's largest croc in a separate enclosure..... I thought we would have one. Max were 10-12 ft long only. Reptile enclosure was very small. Found only 4 juveniles. Kids would definitely get to know crocs better and respect nature. Steve Irwin, we miss you dearly buddy.

Decent and neatly maintained and labeled place. 50% of the enclosures are for adpoted crocodiles with names of donors. The glass walls, although they need cleaning from both inside and outside. The animals seemed bored, but we went on mid week with barely any tourist. So we were bored too. There is a small cafeteria and souvenir shops. There are many artwork installations everywhere, which is quite nice. I would recommend this place as a part of a bigger itinerary or passing stop than planning an exclusive trip just for this. The complex is next to Sheraton Grand hotel mahabalipuram complex and it has road side marked parking. The parking fee is Rs.30 and entry ticket is Rs.100 ( expensive but thats how much it costs to maintain such places) I would love for Vandaloor zoo to increase fare but definitely improve the facilities.

Amazing park, takes 45 mins to go around. Have never seen so many crocodiles, turtles and tortoise. Was very clean and I was pleasantly surprised. Would definitely recommend especially if you are in your way to Mahabalipuram or Pondicherry. It is on ECR around 40 kms from Chennai.

Madras crocodile bank, mahabalipuram. Lot of different types of crocodiles, snacks, turtles and lizards are kept here. But they haven't maintained it properly, it was not clean. Because the glass panel was too dirty and not clear. But a good habitat for the animals. This place has a wide variety of species of crocodiles and turbans snakes. Snake venom extraction also demonstrated here. Must visit places of you are on a Chennai trip

It is a splendid place to visit. You can see a huge variety of crocodiles and other reptiles including snakes, tortoises, turtles, etc. There is also a snake extraction centre inside, where they will show the process of extraction of poison from a snake. There is a small tuck shop where you can buy snacks or drinks. At the exit, there is also a souvenir shop where there are a lot of toys, keychains, etc. Worth it !!

This place is good to spend around 1 hour, there are variety of crocodile, snakes in the enclosures which is maintained properly. The place has drinking water set-up, restroom and small canteen .The entry price is bit high ( 100₹ for adults + 60₹ additional for snake centre) it has enough parking space ( parking charge additional. Good place to hangout with your family.

If you have an interest in exploring the world of reptiles, this destination is a must-see. I had the opportunity to visit on January 4th, 2024, right at its 10 am opening, and was truly astonished by the variety it offered—housing crocodiles, alligators, a dedicated section for turtles, and a selection of snakes. A tip for optimal enjoyment: consider visiting at 4 pm; it's the ideal time to experience everything the place has to offer such as the snake show and many. One of the most heartening discoveries was the chance to adopt animals through the trust—truly a commendable initiative.
