A great view of Srinagar Old City from the top. The place is managed by defence personnels. Please be careful in taking pictures as this place has army installations. the upper section of the hill houses the fort which will surely take your breath away, once you climb to the last step. The fort was built in 1808 under the reign of the Governor of Kashmir Province of the Durrani Empire, Atta Mohammed Khan. can be reached via two sides of the city, (a) via Rainawari through Kathi Darwaza Gate and (b) via Hawal through the Sangin Darwaza Gate. What is Hari Parbat famous for? It is the site of several important edifices, which include the Durrani Fort, Parvati Temple, a Gurudwara and shrines of Akhund Mullah Shah and Khwaja Makhdoom Sahib

The southern side of Hari Parbat features Makhdoom Sahib, the shrine of Hamza Makhdoom, a 16th-century Kashmiri Sufi saint locally known as Hazrat Sultan and Sultan-ul-Arifeen. Built below the fort is a mosque dedicated to Shah Badakhshi, a 17th-century Qadiri Sufi saint. The mosque was built by Mughal princess Jahanara Begum. Love to see this great place. Visit once and feel its beauty ❤✌️🏻..

A Very Good Fort in Srinagar that everybody must visit. It is currently occupied by Indian Army but they allow visitors during day time. City views from the Fort are breathtaking.

It's a must visit fort when you are here in Srinagar. The location on maps is wrong. Just take the main road and you will see the entry check post towards your left where you have to buy tickets. Post that you can take the car near the main fort entrance and park it there. It is the only place to house a Hindu Temple, a Mosque and a Gurudwara, together. The view of the city from the fort is quite pleasant. A stroll across the fort takes about 45 minutes. To reach the temple, one must go down towards one's right after entering the main gate. On 15th Aug, 2021, a 100 foot Indian flag was raised here. Also, Army's presence is high here. Make sure you adhere to the protocols. In my experience, this is a worth visiting place in Srinagar, not only because I prefer forts than anything else but due to the fact it gives the scenic view, which is 2nd to what you get from Pari mahal, of the entire Srinagar valley, Dal lake, entire mountain ranges and many more things. This fort not only overlooks the entire Srinagar valley, mountain ranges but also the entire congested city, and I think this is the reason it is so heavily guarded by the military. But somehow Hari Parbat has lost its charm and losing it day by day just because many tourists do not come, and that’s why authorities do not pay much attention to it. Or maybe if we look from another perspective, lack of maintenance by the authorities resulting in less turnaround of tourists. Anyway, whatever the reason is, this place could have been one of the most visited places in Srinagar, but somehow get neglected with the time and destiny. But, from a tourist perspective, one should visit this place for sure. Try to click pictures in monochrome, the rustic look of the fort will give quite a good essence to your pics.

Hari Parbat is also known as Kooh-e-Maran lies on the west of Dal Lake in Srinagar, in the UT of Jammu & Kashmir. Hari parbat also has many stairs approx 150 or may be more. Entry ticket for adult domestic tourists is inr50. Also here you can see devi temple . On 75th independence day our national flag was hosted. From here also can see complete Srinagar as birds eye view. From the fort can view dal lake, nigeel lake , badamwari which becomes pink in the month of march .

One of the important symbols of Srinagar is Hari Parbat, built on a hill located on one side of the Dal-lake. It is also popular by the name Koh-e-Maraan. The name Hari Parbat is derived from an ancient legend. There was a time when the valley was full of demons. One such demon was Asura Jalobhava. The local Hindus prayed to Parvati (Lord Shiva’s wife) for help. She took the form of a Myna (Haer in Kashmiri), a bird of the Starling family (Sturnidae), native of South Asia; the Myna dropped a pebble on the Asura’s head. This pebble became larger and larger until it crushed the demon. That large stone now coated with vermilion is considered as a symbol of Parvati and is worshipped as Sharika (cosmic energy pervading the universe). It occupies middle part of the western slope of the hill where there is a temple of Shakti, who is worshipped under the familiar name of Jagdamba Sharika Bhagwati. She is depicted as having 18 arms and sitting in Shri Chakra (Chakreeshwar). This ancient temple is a very revered place for Kashmiri Pandits. The best time to go there is very early in the morning. In the days pre-1990, before the unfortunate Pandit exodus, one could see a large number of devotees with vermilion teekas (Tyok in Kashmiri) on their foreheads going up and down the hill. The first fortification of this site was done in 1590 by the Moghul emperor Akbar. He got an outer wall built in the form of a fort. It was a part of his plan to make a new capital at the site where the present city of Srinagar is located. This project never got completed. The present fort was built in 1808 under the Afghan regimen during the Durrani empire. The Governor of Kashmir those days was Atta Mohammed Khan. The fort can be entered through two gates. One, the Kathi Darwaza near Rainawari, and the other near Hawal through Sangeen Darwaza. The Southern side of Hari Parbat features the shrine of the Sufi saint Hazra Makhdoom, a 16th century saint later known as Makhdoom Sahab (1494- 1578). He was a mystic Sufi saint living in Kashmir often referred to as Mehboob-ul-Alam (loved by all). He was born in village near Sopore. His father was born in a Rajput Chandravanshi family and was famous as Baba Usman. As per the history Hamza Makhdoom studied in Shamsi Chak monastery and later was educated in jurisprudence, philosophy and mysticism in Ismail Kubrawal’s Madrassa. He directed his teachings specifically to the followers of Islam, and under his influence a part of Kashmir’s population truly followed the Sunni Islam. He passed away at the age of 82 and his shrine is located on the Southern slope of Hari Parbat hill.

There are many places in Srinagar which are usually visited by many tourists. The one which seems to be far away on the other side of Srinagar is HARI PARBATH FORT, which is in dilapidated stage, but occupied and maintained by Indian Army, with a huge INDIAN FLAG dedicated to the county's peace and prosperity. An exquisite round the pole bird's eye view of the whole of Srinagar is presented from this fort. But reaching this fort needs a lot of efforts in all respects. Must visit place. On the same hillock one can also visit Sarika Devi temple a kind of Shaktipeetam.

It's a very prominent landmark in the skyline of Srinagar. It's lit up very well too but there needs to be more care given to this monument in terms of landscaping, knowledge about the fort, guided tours, a small museum explaining the history of the fort etc. This fort has the potential of becoming a major tourist attraction if treated with a little more love and care.

Visiting Hariparbat Fort in Srinagar, Kashmir was a truly unforgettable experience. As soon as I arrived at the entrance of the fort, I was greeted by the stunning architecture of the massive structure, which was built by the Durrani Empire. As I made my way inside, I couldn't help but feel awed by the intricate design and impressive size of the fort. The fort is situated on a hill and is surrounded by a beautiful garden, which added to the charm of the place. The fort also boasts of a Hindu temple, mosques, and a gurdwara, making it a symbol of the diverse religious and cultural history of the region. I began my exploration of the fort by first visiting the Hindu temple. From there, I made my way to the mosques and the gurdwara, each of which was equally impressive and fascinating. After exploring the religious sites, I began to climb the ramparts of the fort, which offered a breathtaking view of the entire city of Srinagar. From this vantage point, I could see the beautiful negeen lake and an over view of majestic Badamwari and the surrounding mountains, which only added to the majesty of the experience. I walked around the various courtyards and corridors, taking in the history and culture of the place. Overall, my visit to Hariparbat Fort in Srinagar, Kashmir was an unforgettable experience. The stunning architecture, diverse religious sites, and breathtaking views of the city made it a must-visit destination for anyone interested in history, culture, and natural beauty. Note : tickets provided for visiting the forte is till 3:00pm so make sure to grab the tickets before closing.

Hari Parbat Fort: A Historical Marvel in Srinagar Nestled on the picturesque hills of Srinagar, Hari Parbat Fort stands as a testament to the rich historical and architectural heritage of the Kashmir Valley. This imposing structure, which has withstood the test of time, is a true marvel that offers a captivating journey into the past. Hari Parbat Fort is a striking example of Mughal architecture, built during the reign of Emperor Akbar in the late 16th century. Its design showcases a blend of Persian and Indian influences, making it a unique and significant landmark. The fort is strategically located on the Hari Parbat hill, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the Dal Lake and the surrounding landscape. The first thing that strikes any visitor is the impressive structure of the fort. Its massive walls, constructed using local brick and beautifully carved sandstone, not only serve as a defensive bastion but also showcase the architectural finesse of the Mughals. The outer walls of the fort are adorned with intricate floral patterns and inscriptions in Persian, adding an artistic touch to the imposing edifice. Hari Parbat Fort also holds deep historical significance. It is home to the revered Makhdoom Sahib Shrine, a sacred place of worship for the people of Kashmir. This spiritual significance is interwoven with the fort's historical narrative, making it a symbol of cultural and religious diversity. As you step inside the fort, the ancient stone pathways lead you through a series of historical structures, including the Shergarhi, the Akbar Gate, and the Parvateshwar Temple. The Shergarhi, also known as the Lion Gate, boasts beautiful frescoes and intricate artwork that transport you back in time. The Akbar Gate, an imposing gateway, reflects the grandeur and power of the Mughal era. The Parvateshwar Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is a place of immense religious and architectural importance. The picturesque view of the Dal Lake from the fort is nothing short of breathtaking. The serene waters and the surrounding gardens make for a surreal backdrop that you won't want to miss capturing. Visiting Hari Parbat Fort is not just an architectural experience; it's a journey through the annals of history. As you explore the fort, you'll be fascinated by the tales of emperors and battles, the rise and fall of dynasties, and the cultural interplay that shaped the region. The well-maintained gardens surrounding the fort create a peaceful ambiance, inviting visitors to reflect on the bygone eras while appreciating the natural beauty of the surroundings. In conclusion, Hari Parbat Fort in Srinagar is an architectural gem that combines historical significance with breathtaking views and artistic beauty. It stands as a testament to the grandeur of the Mughal era and the rich heritage of the Kashmir Valley. A visit to this fort is not just a sightseeing excursion; it's an immersive journey through time, offering a profound insight into the region's culture and history. Whether you're a history enthusiast, an architecture lover, or simply a traveler seeking a unique experience, Hari Parbat Fort should undoubtedly be on your itinerary when visiting Srinagar.

A historic place near Rainawari Srinagar. The road is made up to around 80% of the hill, from there you have to climb up, which is a short climb of maybe 15 minutes. From the top, you can have a majestic view of Srinagar city especially the Shehre-Khaas. On a clear day, you can also see Dal lake, Nigeen lake and even KU is visible. Apart from that, the fort is sort of captured by the Indian Army. You will be frisked before entering the fort, cigarettes and lighters etc are not allowed there. The Army has put up a Mandir over there.
