The First Significant Khanqah ( Islamic religious community/preaching centre) established By Shahi Hamdan Mir Syed Ali Hamadani Banie Musalmani in Kashmir and adjoining areas. One of the best representation of Art and Wooden Architectural influence of Hamdan, Bukhara and Samarkand. The Spiritual Ambience and the aura is such that it effectively raises the moral and certainly uplifts the depressed ones which I believe is the panacea of all the ills that our Youth is facing in the present helpless and hopeless situation.

Khanqah Masjid also known as Shah Hamdan Mosque. Famous for its wooden architecture. The masjid has sperate space where females can also pray. The interior is full of marvelous carving and paper mache design. Colourfull paper mache designed walls, huge pillars, beautiful windows, hanging glass jars etc. Washroom: For ablution washrooms are there for both male and female. Just go your right side of the masjid while entering the main gate. Parking: You can park your vehicle outside if any space has been left by the street vendors. Must Visit this place and don't forget to pray for me.

Khanqah-e-Moula is situated in Srinagar, on the banks of the river Jhelum. One of the oldest Muslim shrines in Kashmir, the khanqah was built by Sultan Sikander built in 1395. The Khanqah is a wooden structure whose chief aesthetic feature is its beautifully carved eaves and hanging bells. The interiors are richly carved and painted, and the antique chandeliers give it an air of opulence. The Khanqah-i-Mualla is dedicated to Muslim preacher Mir Syed Ali Hamdani.

Built to honor the great Amir Kabir Mir Sayyid Ali Hamdani (r.a). Not only did he bring Islam to the valley but he brought with himself the culture, arts and crafts of Iran. The arts and crafts of modern day Kashmir can be directly traced back to Shah e Hamdan. He empowered the people of Kashmir with Islam and the economy of Kashmir with the art and crafts due to which Kashmir came to be known as Iran e Sagir. The Khankah has an illustrious history. Saints like Shaykh Hamza Makhdoomi(r.a) and Alamdar e Kashmir(r.a) took part in the construction of the Khankah. Apart from being a spiritual center for Kashmir it is also a living memorial of the vibrance of Kashmir and it's deeply spiritual roots.

It's said that if you wish foe something here, it definitely gets fulfilled. We met some local people here who were very much friendly and socialized with us for sometime. It was so nice to get affection from them. If you r in Srinagar, you mustn't miss this place at any cost or you ll be at loss.

Located on the banks of river Jhelum in Srinagar, Shah-e-Hamdan Mosque is also known as Khanqah masjid and was built in the year 1395. The mosque is one of the oldest in Srinagar and also one of the most visited, both by Kashmiris as well as travelers for centuries. The entry inside is, however, restricted only to Muslims. Not just the architecture but the story of the person behind the mosque is most interesting. Mir Sayyid Ali Hamadani has been one of the most influential travellers who came to Kashmir during the 14th Century. His mosque is now one of the most iconic landmark of the city, the other being Hazrat Bal. The wooden mosque is located on the banks of river Jhelum and that adds even more beauty to the mosque. Shah-E-Hamden came to Kashmir three times between 1365 and 1383 and preached Islam to the Buddhist and Hindu population of the region. He is credited to converting about 35,000 people in Kashmir, and all of it was due the message of love that he brought with him. In other parts of the world, the spread of religion was mainly by force and wars. Sultan Sikander built this mosque in his memory. It has suffered through three devastating fires, the most recent one in 1731. The design of the mosque changed with each rebuilding exercise, but the ethos of love lived on. The current structure has a square plan is made almost completely of wood, and many murals both inside and outside. The ceiling of the mosque is especially famous for the Kashmir-only craft . Khatamband is the art of constructing a ceiling by fitting small pieces of wood, preferably Walnut and Deodar woods together in a geometrical pattern. All this is done with hands and without the use of nails.

A very beautiful old mosque founded by Shah I Hamdan who brought the Islamic teachings to Kashmir. We found the visit very interesting and also enjoyed the walk though the old bazaar afterwards. Non Muslim ladies - pls wear long pants or long skirts and bing a shawl to cover your arms and head.

Beautiful view and ambience. You will enjoy the pigeons crowded infront of the mosque. Do not try to fly away the pigeons as the natives will start staring at you and might shout at you. If you are a non-muslim, Do not try to enter inside the mosque. Am Sorry! But that's the belief.
