Incredible houseboats with breathtaking views of beautiful Nagin Lake. This is a must stay place if you are visiting Kashmir. Hats off to the management team for maintaining such high standards with a big smile. Everything about this place is great from comfort to delicious food. Will go there anytime there is a chance.

They have 6 house boats. No. 4 is a new one. Nice Room. Suite Rooms are good. On a upper floor Suite has better view from Sit out. Other Rooms have no views. Boat no.4 has good decor. I had veg food that was great. Maqbool chacha great service from him.

From wonderful living area to dining area to suite room everything was wonderful & specially they serve superb veg home cooked food. Their chefs have brilliant skills. The lake is beautiful with not much people, it’s pretty much silent with limited people. Cleanliness of the lake is maintained well. Also they have 6 Houseboats of their own in Nigeen Lake.

A stay at the Gurkha Houseboat is the perfect way to experience the beauty and hospitality of Kashmir. Owner Saboor Bhai and his exceptional staff provide warm, welcoming service that makes you feel right at home on the lake. Our double lake view suite offered gorgeous views of tranquil Nigeen Lake and the surrounding mountains. The delicious, home-cooked Kashmiri meals served onboard are reason enough to stay at the Gurkha. Manager Tanveer oversees the menu and the staff, including Maqbool Chacha and Mashkoor Bhai, serve each meal with a smile. Dishes like rogan josh, yakhni, and tabak maaz show off the rich flavors of Kashmiri cuisine. Don't miss the Kashmiri tea, or kahwa, a warming saffron-infused tea. A stay at the Gurkha Houseboat allows you to experience Srinagar like a local. Cruise across the lake into quiet canals to see lakeside villages and houseboats. In the evenings, cozy up on deck under a warm blanket to gently float under starlit skies. It's a magical way to end each day. The Gurkha's hospitality and prime location make it easy to recommend for a truly memorable stay in Kashmir. In summary, Saboor Bhai and his team offer excellent service and warm Kashmiri hospitality. The food, views, and comfortable suites provide everything needed for an ideal houseboat experience. Highly recommend booking the Gurkha Houseboat for a relaxing getaway on stunning Nigeen Lake.

I visited with my elderly parents and we all had an amazing time - the houseboats have an old-world charm and are clean, spacious and well-maintained. The food was excellent - authentic Kashmiri food that had both delicious vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. The live-in caretakers Riyaaz and Ashraf and manager Tanvir took excellent care of us all with personal attention and accomodated our requests. (They speak English in case language is a concern.) The houseboat is easily accessible by complimentary shikara (boat) service upto 9 pm and by land later in the night. We took daytrips out of Srinagar in the day. The boat is on Nigeen lake which is a quieter, more scenic location than Dal lake, with cleaner, clearer water and great bird-watching. All in all I highly recommend this locally-owned houseboat

It was once in a lifetime experience on this houseboat. Everything was so perfect that we don’t have words to express. Starting with the accommodation, everything was top notch. The designs, decor, and interiors were all very aesthetically pleasing. Each room has everything starting from a fan, cooler, air conditioner and all the necessary stuff. And the hospitality was too good. A special mention for Chacha ji and Tanveer who gave us a homely treatment. Thank you so much for all the love.

The experience il Gurka houseboat hotel was positive but at the same time utterly disappointing. We came and they granted us a good welcome with tea and they explained us all the rules of the boat. The manager was coldly polite. We found extremely caring and professional the keeper Chacha (I hope I wrote it correctly). The room was clean and well furnished (even though there was no kettle with tea inside). We had dinner a couple of times and the food was fresh, and really good. What was really disappointing was: Firstly the AC (air conditioning) was not functioning every afternoon, and plugs as well, Bea cause of lack of electricity. A couple of times we had to stay in the room with really high temperature litterally sweating. I really do not expect this in such a luxurious place where you significantly pay the service. Secondly what we found really unpleasant was the resolution of a problem of us. We paid in advance five nights and we had to interrupt our staying in anticipation and they did not refund anything neither the half nothing. As we booked the staying with a travel agency they could have find a solution between them as they frequently collaborate but nothing. I am sure that the manager is behind it. We did not expect this treatment and therefore we were extremely disappointed.

I would rate it as 4 star property. Interiors of the boat house is really captivating. Everything was great, food was really delicious, mushkoor and chacha ji were really great care takers. I faced only one issue - Mirror. Please place mirror in the room, how someone can apply makeup 💄 in bathroom? Everything else was great. Thanks for giving us an amazing experience😀

Maybe this hotel deserves the current rating in summer but definitely not in winter. It becomes extremely cold and uncomfortable. They also seal shut all the windows and you end up trapped in an extremely small closed box. Food is freshly prepared and homely, very little spread but decent taste. With no view and extreme cold there's no way you can convince yourself of a house boat experience, better to take even a 2 or 3 star hotel overlooking the lake rather than this disaster.

The stay was nice and a different experience staying inside a boat. The boat house depict the Kashmir culture and art. The stay can be boring as you can’t do much apart from sitting inside boat house or sitting outside the boat. The food is homely and limited option. The staff are good and hospitable.

A beautiful boat hotel on the lake in its quiet and charming part, if you are in Srinagar this is the place to be, quietly watch the magical lake to sail and relax on the balcony, drink Kashmiri tea, admire the beauty. The room is clean and has all the required amenities, warm and unusual Kashmiri hospitality .

Very nice rooms. Bathrooms need some improvements. Excellent homemade food. The owners and managers were there to greet the guests. Makbul chacha and his young help were always there to take care of the guests. The adjacent shawl and carpet shop was top quality. Award winning craftsmanship. Beautiful house and a garden.

We stayed at these gorgeous houseboats back in 2016 and again this year in June. It is always a pleasure, everyone is hospitable and you get treated royally. Not to forget the food is out of this world. Highly recommend for everyone this incredible lifetime experience!!!

Honestly one of the best experiences we've had on our trip. The arrival to the houseboat on a shikara (a small boat captained by locals) was fantastic, we had the manager waiting for us and he introduced us to the history of the boats. The interior of the boat is absolutely fantastic, it was a beautiful interior and the rooms were absolutely amazing, even better than hotels on the ground we stayed at. We also had two people on the boat who were readily available to help us at any stage, they serve food and clean the rooms and have great local knowledge of the area and the history of the area, they honestly made the stay perfect. The food was also amazing, all cooked by a local chef, specially prepared for the boats and it tasted exactly like mothers cooking. This is the only place we would stay in srinagar if revisiting in the future. Special thanks to the helpers. The boat is not 3 star, its a 7 star floating hotel.

These houseboats are lovely and the hosts make you feel at home right away. The decor and carvings are a sight to behold. The food is wonderful and we got to witness some light rain, which is welcoming. They are located on Nageen lake, which isn't as busy as Dal lake, and more picturesque. We enjoyed the hosts-Saboorbhai, his manager and family and our kids still talk about the experience. They're good people and we are now friends. You are in Kashmir, so you will get to see beautiful carpets and shawls, salesmen on boats, people making a living... Which is all good..Would love to visit again.

The stay at the houseboat was very comfortable. We enjoyed every bit of our stay. The beautiful interiors, adequate heating in the boat ,homely cooked delicious food and warm hospitality of the Maqbool chacha were the few highlights of our stay. Drinking kahwa at the deck and seeing the shikaras go pass by was heavenly. We did not feel cold although it was snowing the whole night we stayed. The house boat is well maintained and very clean. Everyone should stay atleast for a night . It's truly an amazing experience.

Friends had advise me not to stay in houseboat as their experience were not good. I still decided to stay at WelcomHeritage Gurkha House boat which is at Nigeen lake. It was a wonderful experience. We stayed at House boat no. 2 which had 4 bed rooms. It had a hall and a dinning room which is common. Each room has its bathroom. Ours had a bath tub too. The service was fantastic. They served nice dinner and made breakfast as per order. It is land connected from backside where there is a garden and you can take a walk. The interior were very nice. You have to remove the shoes when you are inside so it is very clean. Attendent Riyaz was very good. I would recommend one night stay in this houseboat for a new experience...

This place is just not worth the money spent. Location is nice and nigeen lake, where the houseboat is, is much cleaner than dal lake, not crowded. However, we disliked the rooms, they were stuffy, , not well ventilated and with dirty blankets and sheets, and to make it more worse they have unwelcoming staff, and below average food. Would not at all recommend this place for stay.

Stayed in Gurkha Houseboat No. 2 for a day. Best houseboat to stay in Srinagar, with great food. Amazing hospitality by Riyaz, Parvez and Ishaq. Felt very welcomed there. Rooms were clean and very well setup. Heated rooms. Overall an absolutely delightful stay and worth the money.

Absolutely a no no for this. No other facilities other than the room. The bathroom fittings are too old and not maintained. Pathetic experience. The water is quite dirty all over. Mosquitoes. Never again here. This has nothing to do with the Welcome group.
