Charming, but over priced for a cold old house. You can't adjust the room. temperature yourself, and it's too cold for making love. The AC causes a constant draft as you sleep. Lots of blankets on the bedding help, but we woke up sore despite the pillow top cover. It's also bright at night because of all the lighting outside the window. Friendly staff, but we wouldn't return.

***AVOID THE CHARLES HOTEL AT ALL COSTS! TERRIBLE STAY!*** Starting with the Pros- 1) Location is great: a 3 minute walk to downtown, right on the golf course, basically on Lake Ontario. The upper patio/terrace area was beautiful and had amazing greenery and flowers! There is a garden in the back that was pretty to look at. 2) Anna working at the restaurant is fabulous- personable and friendly. Now onto the Cons- 1) When you walk in, the hotel REEKS of must and mold. It smells awful, especially in the restaurant area. It honestly made me gag. 2) Our room priced at $250 a night (room 12, I believe it is a basic room) and it felt like a prison cell. It was painted a dark grey with very little natural light. There was 1 foot of space on either side of the bed, and maybe 5 feet of space in front of the bed. Its truly a crime to pay that much to feel like you are in solitary confinement. 3) Our TV sound didn't work 4) Our TV remote stopped working 5) Our keycard deactivated 3 or 4 times throughout our 3 day stay. Had to go to the front desk to get it reset. (One of the times, a new employee who was not properly trained did not know how to reset the keycard. We had to explain to her how we saw the other receptionist do it. Poor girl- she was clearly frazzled from not being properly trained by management) 6) No closet or drawers for clothes 7) You cannot adjust the temperature of your room. It was 89 degrees Fahrenheit, and our room was set to a toasty 74. 8) Our bed had NO FITTED SHEET! Just a mattress topper with a loose sheet on top of it (not even tucked in). It was disgusting- we would basically wake up every morning on a bare mattress because there was no fitted sheet. 9) Our alarm clock went off every morning at 6am (we stayed 3 nights). We unplugged it, but it somehow kept going off. 10) Now the worst: within the first 30 minutes of our arrival, I went to take a shower (there was also no shower door, which was odd to see as someone from the United States). I kept the bathroom door open, and 5 minutes into my shower, the SMOKE ALARMS started going off! They stopped and started again 4 times. Not sure if it was from the steam that triggered the smoke alarm that was above the bed? I hopped out of the shower (with conditioner in my hair), and called the front desk. The lady said she was going to send maintenance up. Shockingly, they never came. Waited around to get back into the shower because I didn't want maintenance to show up while I was washing the conditioner out of my hair, obviously they never showed. Went down to the front desk later that night, and they said they forgot to send maintenance up. When we talked to the front desk about this and how odd it was, they implied that they thought we were lying, and how they couldn't understand how steam would trigger a smoke alarm (Yeah, we were just as boggled about the situation, too). It was extremely disrespectful. After this discussion, maintenance still NEVER CAME. 11) Bugs. Every. Where. I was extremely dissatisfied with our stay. Please, find somewhere else to stay, and do not book the Charles Hotel, there are so many other options in the area. I understand that they want to keep the old Victorian charm, but there are MAJOR upgrades and renovations that need to be done. Ex) better TVs, fixing water damage in the ceilings, getting rid of the mold and must smell, etc. Management, please take this review and make changes- please do not respond how you respond to every other review "We are sorry, contact this number to further discuss".

Charming old residence with just enough updates for comfort. Breakfast option was fabulous with seating in the windowed veranda. Staff was fantastic throughout and Lindsay was fabulous for checkin and support. Location is convenient to main commercial area but not crowded. Even has EV charging for guests.

We stayed a night with breakfast and dinner, it was listed in the reservation as a Deluxe Queen with walk-in shower. It was tiny and dark as both shutters open into common area patios, “deluxe not” the pictures in their website did not show this particular room. There’s less than 18 inches fr the 3 sides of the bed! When we arrived the room was freezing, they came in n adjusted the heater which is on the left wall of the bed, at head level. At 2 am I woke up thinking there’s a snowstorm out, nope it’s the heater and it kept us up from 4am on till morning!! Not a good sleep for the price we paid, in total over 360.00 For dinner, the starters, the foe Gris and scallops were good, however the lamb tho delicious could hv had some char, the risotto was inedible as it wasn’t el denta, it was crunchy raw!! For breakfast, my husbands omelette was over done, I had very nice potatoes with my traditional. For tea, 1 teabag in a huge oversized teapot per person, would it not being better to hv 3 teabags in the same size teapot for 3? cos all our teas were bland. Niagara is famous for their jams, we had to request for it and they came in refilled tiny reused petite jam bottles! If they were so, why not in a nice little bowl. Butter, salt, pepper was nowhere to be seen. Overall disappointed with room, the food, felt cheap as we had to request for everything, salt, pepper, ketchup, jam, butter etc etc Service was ok but we felt bad having to send him back for all the items. By the time the ketchup arrived I had finished my eggs else it would be cold. I think the overall management of the hotel needs to see that cutting corners with the service brings down the hotels reputation. Room 106 should not be listed as deluxe queen but Basic and charges adjusted. I would not return again with guests as we were overly disappointed

Quaint hotel within walking distance to so much. Friendly staff, restaurant and bar lounge on site. Beautiful property.

The good, the staff of very good and unfortunately that is all the good. We booked a “Premium Queen” room for $325 per night and when we went to our room we were so disappointed. You had to walk in and back out it was so small. There was absolutely no area to open up a suitcase because it was so small. This was not their petite or deluxe Queen, it was a premium Queen. There was an outdoor veranda off the side of the room however the rattan furniture is broken and only had kitchen chair pads instead of normal pads. Niagara’s Finest hotels are anything but this. Their website is very misleading and value for the rooms are terrible. We asked for another room and was told there were no others available so they moved us to another one of their not so fine properties, the Shaw. We were given a room in a separate building that was still small however workable for size. The room at the Shaw had a window shaker style AC unit that was so loud we had to turn it off at night. We couldn’t close the blinds on the window because the AC unit was sticking through the window too far. For business and pleasure I spend over 100 nights annually in hotel rooms and the Niagara’s Finest hotels this week has been the worst value for my money ever. Hopefully management will take things seriously and correct their business actions and creative marketing. The good thing about this is that we all have choices and my choice will be to never stay at a Niagara Finest hotel again!

Beautiful historic Georgian residence. Breakfast and dinner on the patio and in the dining room (Hob Nob) highly recommended. Sleep well.

The building is very old. Bathroom sink took a very long time for the water to get warm. If you wanted to change the temperature in the room, you had to ask the front desk to come to the room and do it every time. Very annoying. I would not recommend staying at this hotel. Not worth the money you pay.

We had an amazing experience! They were extremely accommodating. We were on a bike trip and it started raining and they invited us inside and offered us towels and shelter. We dried off and had some tasty drinks. Definitely would recommend, amazing staff and beautiful property.

My husband and I have been going to NOTL and staying at the Charles regularly for over 15 years. I can safely say that this past weekend will be our last. On our first night’s stay, our room (101) filled with a rotten egg smell so bad that we needed to open the window and the door to the porch fully. Our room became very cold, and the smell did not go away. We had obvious concerns that it might be coming from the gas fireplace but convinced ourselves that it was most likely a sewer backup that was affecting our bathroom. The next morning, we informed the front desk who honestly did not look surprised or concerned. We were moved to a very tiny, lesser room for our next night’s stay and at checkout we were given zero compensation, not even a free breakfast. Our bill came to around $1000 for a two-night stay with breakfasts. So very short-sighted of them, especially given our history with them. We will never go back and will never recommend The Charles again. There are so many other wonderful places to stay in Niagara on the Lake.

Stayed 2 nights on Travelzoo vouchers which included dinner for two - great value! Comfortable bed, nice size room, good amenities, spacious walk-in shower, polite and friendly staff. Expect the hotel will show a bit a wear - it was built in 1832! It's always a struggle to maintain very old buildings but it is evident management is diligent keeping amenities functional and the hotel clean and maintained to show its historic charm. Food at the HobNob was excellent. Get the tomahawk pork chop - the most tender, best pork chop I've ever had in my 6 decades of life and travel!

Lovely staff, excellent food and surroundings. Unfortunately I have to also report that the bed was very uncomfortable and the plumbing in the shower was fussy

In short: checked in, looked at the room and left. The room (at $385/night) has the view of the dumpster (I will be adding the photos soon). It is completely disgusting and disrespectful to the guests. Front desk staff do not appear to care at all. P.S. Please do not respond with a standard “please call this number to discuss your experience”. The fact that you offer this room to your guests speaks volumes about the hotel.

If you want to be completely ripped off…..go to The Charles Inn for Lunch or Supper. Disgusting……the food might be good but with a Rabbit size portion…unable to even taste. This is the biggest ripoff in our town. I hope the management reads this….and do themselves a favour….and fire whom ever sets the prices & portions for their meals.

Nice traditional hotel in the centre of Niagara on the Lake. Rooms are very charming and full of character, but with good amenities as well. Cyclist friendly - they accommodated our small cycling group without any problems (bikes stored in our rooms).

Anyone planning on staying here please pay attention to the 1 and 2 star reviews. They are all true. This hotel is old, musty, and the room we stayed in (queen bed) may have been the worst room we ever stayed in. It was so small, musty and dismal. It had about 1-2 feet between the bed and the walls. and about 6ft from the end of the bed to the door. It was painted battleship grey and the ceiling had a hole in it from water damage. The AC barely worked and the tv had basic cable and no HD. The walls were scuffed and scratched. All for the price of $500.0 per night. I complained so they did give us a $80.00 rebate. I think this place is a scam, taking advantage of the good location and high demand in NOTL.

EXPENSIVE ICE BOX HOTEL ROOM We called ahead for early check in and or to leave our luggage. We were told no problem although upon arrival no rooms were ready and they did not have a storage room for luggage. When we were able to check into our room it was extremely small not like any of the pictures on their website and FREEZING. We tried to turn on the heat but the hotel employees were the only ones to who could control the thermostat. The room was under 60°F. We left for dinner when we returned the room was still freezing. They brought us a small heater, within a few hours the room warmed a little but not the bathroom. The way the hotel handled this problem was more of a problem for them than their customer. We would not recommend this hotel, very disappointed and not worth the money.
