👍👍 Drove to Canada this weekend. Came to Salem Church to see the history of it, a place where Harriet Tubman brought slaves for shelter. Got there only to find it closed for the day. After looking around outside and made up in our minds that we were just gonna be content with taking pics outside...Roch... People often mention church, history, Harriet, Tubman, Canada,

Drove to Canada this weekend. Came to Salem Church to see the history of it, a place where Harriet Tubman brought slaves for shelter. Got there only to find it closed for the day. After looking around outside and made up in our minds that we were just gonna be content with taking pics outside...Rochelle (I hope I spelled her name right) one of the tour guides, saw us looking around from another building, came over and let us in. She allowed us to tour the building ourselves. It was such an experience seeing and being in the place where underground railroad slaves were sheltered. The church has a lot of pics and artifacts, dealing with the church itself and the history behind Harriet Tubman and her involvement. If you're ever in Ontario Canada, you DEFINITELY NEED to check it out!

A quick stop for some history. The church is known as an end point of the Underground Railroad. Tours are by appointment only but outside are a few plagues to read and a bust of Harriet Tubman who attended the church while she lived in Canada.

Great african American church to visit in Canada! Once attended by Ms.Harriet Tubman. So much history at this church..check out the downstairs area for great photos . The 2 ladies that give the history of the church are awesome.

Very nice church. Has some intriguing history. My favourite part is the Harriet Tubman statue at the side of the building in the back patio seating area where the benches are. I love the architecture and just the overall vibe this property has. Definitely a nice place to relax for a bit, or just enjoy as you're walking by :)

Amazing black and Christian history right here in Ontario! While the part of town has clearly seen better days, the chapel is well maintained. Lots of signs explaining the history of the church, its role in the community, and the connection with Harriet Tubman. A pretty close walk to downtown St. Catharines, it's certainly worth the visit even if you don't make it inside.

I literally pass by here every week and had no idea this was Harriet Tubman’s church. The city of St Catharine’s needs to do better in publicizing this - it’s a shame so many people do not even know this gem is located here. I’m smh and in awe at the same time.

I recently gave a meager donation to this wonderful church. I was pleasantly surprised with the hand written thank you card I received in the mail today! It occurred to me of all my donations this year, your church is the only to be truly appreciative of my donation. I will not forget you and your congregation for preserving a cherished slice of history.

An important part of North American history. Sad that the statue of Harriet Tubman is missing.

This is an historical church in Canada. It was told to us that this was the church that Harriet Tubman belonged. Well worth the nominal fee for a tour.
