Variety of ships use the canal from Lakers to ocean to cruise ships and armed forces, lock one is where they begin their Journey through the canals to Lake Erie and vice versa in Port Colborne There's also photographic opportunities in capturing a great picture of one of these ships.

Came here to view the lock and walk the trails on the other side. Very interesting lock operating machinery can be viewed through the windows in the enclosed buildings beside the lock. Walking trails are accessed on the other side of the lock. Beautiful scenery with beaver dams nestled into the stream one after another.

Very cool lock system. If you are planning on making a transit on a pleasure craft then make sure you have a reservation on thiwr website! You need one to enter, and it cannot be done day of. Also need 3+ people and or a crew rental to make the transit. They are extremely knowledgeable and extremely helpful to have on board.

I'm sure locals get annoyed when the bridge rises and they have to wait 10 minutes while the ship passes, but we enjoyed the spectacle

The bridge is always up at the worst time when driving through. You would think they wouldn't schedule boats at 5pm rush hour every friday all summer long.

Love this place to go and experience mother nature โค๏ธ she never let's me down. On Saturday I decided to go to the canal and take in the beautiful weather ๐ŸŒก๏ธ we were blessed with. I came upon a young raccoon that was distressed so I called for support and help it out. Then I came back by the pond and was fortunate enough to be able to get to see a male and female deer come to the pond just long enough for me to get a glimpse.

Great place to see ships coming and going, and how the lock works, mowing the water inn and out,so the ship can move on to its journey.

Got to watch a ship go through the lock and the bridge lift up. The ship is Algoma Sault. Cool, if you're into that kind of stuff.

The city of St. Catharines should consider traffic possibilities around the bridge. Rerouting to Carlton Street can be a nightmare because of the four way stop on the west side of the canal. Also, the lights on the west side of Lakeshore Rd from lock one never coincide with the bridge.

Couple things to watch as the boat passes. Some of the jumping fish are huge, and the swallow are fun to watch. The old building is run down, but nice to look at
