For
a
Dental
Practice
committed
to
patient
care,
Martindale
Dental
failed
on
almost
all
levels.
This
past
fall
my
husband
went
in
with
severe
tooth
pain
on
his
left
side.
He
was
considered
an
emergency
patient,
so
they
performed
an
x-ray
in
an
attempt
to
diagnose
the
cause
of
pain.
The
dentist
told
him
that
he
likely
needed
a
root
canal
on
one
of
his
top
molars
and
so
he
gave
his
consent
(believing
that
since
they
were
the
experts,
they
obviously
knew
what
was
the
best
treatment
option).
However,
after
a
few
days
the
severe
pain
returned,
so
he
went
back.
He
was
put
on
antibiotics
in
case
there
was
an
infection.
After
finishing
the
antibiotics,
he
went
to
a
Walk-in
in
an
attempt
to
see
if
something
else
was
causing
the
problem.
The
doctor
informed
him
that
the
pain
was
a
result
of
the
root
canal
and
advised
him
to
wait
it
out.
However,
after
spending
a
few
weeks
in
debilitating
pain,
he
decided
to
go
back
to
Martindale
dental.
He
told
them
that
either
the
root
canal
did
not
work
or
they
"fixed"
the
wrong
tooth.
The
dentist
confidently
informed
him
that
the
pain
was
not
because
of
his
teeth.
As
a
result,
we
spent
the
next
couple
of
months
seeing
neurologists
and
having
CAT
scans
and
MRIs
done
to
determine
whether
or
not
the
pain
was
related
to
nerve
issues/damage.
He
was
also
unable
to
work
and
spent
most
of
his
time
lying
down
because
of
the
severity
of
the
pain.
During
this
time,
though,
he
was
still
unable
to
chew
on
his
left
side.
One
afternoon,
following
a
severe
episode
of
pain
that
was
brought
on
by
accidentally
chewing
on
his
left
side,
he
confided
that
he
still
believed
the
pain
was
a
result
of
his
teeth.
I
reminded
him
that
people
with
trigeminal
neuralgia
(i.e.
suicide
disease)--
the
nerve
condition
several
doctors
believed
he
had
--
often
confused
nerve
pain
with
tooth
pain.
I
also
told
him
that
if
he
truly
believed
the
pain
was
a
result
of
his
teeth,
he
should
contact
Martindale
Dental
one
last
time
to
ensure
that
the
pain
was
not
related
to
his
teeth.
A
week
later
he
went
back
in,
only
to
find
out
that
a
bottom
molar
on
the
left
side
was
almost
completely
rotted
out
and
exposing
a
nerve.
Of
course
we
were
relieved
since
trigeminal
neuralgia
can
often
be
a
chronic
condition
and
basically
entails
"lower
quality
of
life".
We
believed,
though,
that
since
all
of
stress,
worry,
pain,
lack
of
income
from
the
previous
three
months
could
have
been
avoided,
Martindale
Dental
would
cover
the
costs
of
performing
a
root
canal
on
the
bottom
tooth
especially
since
the
first
one
was
unnecessary.
It
is
also
important
to
point
out
that
we
acknowledge
that
everyone
makes
mistakes,
but
part
of
making
mistakes
means
restoring
what
has
been
done
wrong
or
at
least
owning
up
to
one's
mistakes.
However,
Martindale
Dental
refused
to
provide
any
form
of
compensation
and
instead
attempted
to
blame
my
husband
for
the
pain.
They
argued,
because
he
never
informed
them
that
the
pain
was
coming
from
the
bottom
teeth
on
his
left
side,
it
was
not
their
fault
that
they
missed
it.
This
excuse
perhaps
might
have
been
valid
if
he
had
not
returned
on
multiple
occasions
because
of
continued
pain
or
if
they
did
not
claim
to
be
the
experts/professionals
of
dentistry.
Also,
since
the
dentist
had
confidently
asserted
that
the
pain
he
was
experiencing
was
not
related
to
his
teeth,
he
chose
to
seek
out
several
doctors
and
neurologists
instead,
believing
that
they
could
provide
him
with
some
answers.
For
a
practice
claiming
to
have
a
compassionate
team
committed
to
patient
care
(see
Website),
Martindale
Dental
proved
they
did
not
care
for
him
by
refusing
to
acknowledge
their
life-threatening
mistake.
It
is
also
important
to
mention
that
after
they
did
locate
the
tooth
causing
the
pain,
they
did
not
immediately
address
the
issue
by
performing
a
second
root
canal/removing
the
tooth.
Instead
they
were
too
concerned
with
money,
liability
issues,
so
he
remained
in
pain
for
an
additional
two
weeks.
As
a
result
we
decided
to
return
to
our
former
dentist
since
we
were
so
disgusted
by
the
treatment
and
lack
of
patient
care
that
we
had
received.
