Dr. A. O. Ogunkeye Pediatrician

😐 Most of the time, we love this pediatrician. But I have mixed feelings lately. Receptionist there are absolutely uncontactable most of the time. Since covid, the doctor seems to be short with her visits and not explaining things as well as before. She seems to be rushed which is really contributing... Most of the time, we love this pediatrician. But I have mixed feelings lately. Receptionist there are absolutely uncontactable most of the time. Since covid, the doctor seems to be short with her visits and not explaining things as well as before. She seems to be rushed which is really contributing negatively to the care my daughter receives. To the extent, I am told to just go to a walk in clinic half of the time now. The answering service just hung up on me saying that the office is only going to be answering calls from 9:30 to noon now. The receptionist seems to never answer the phone which is very frustrating! They definitely need more than 1 staff running this office! I am so disappointed because I, like many parents, like to keep my children's care consistent with their own doctor. I feel defeated trying to keep up with their ever changing process and function of the office

Hi everyone, I am writing this review with deep disappointment, I came with my two little kids for an appointment from 45km away, I was on time but the dr. was running late but still she is nice no issues with the doctor, but office receptionist was extremely rude and kick us out of the clinic, she has no manners how to communicate and talk to the patients if I have other choice I will define go somewhere else. I am looking at other reviews as well about the receptionist I think office need to correct her and send her for some customer services skills. Thanks

I am incredibly grateful for Dr. O. She seems to be the only doctor in southern Ontario that was not only willing to listen to my concerns where my three year old is concerned, but also so graciously offered to take him on and follow him medically for a year after we met during an admission in August at the St Catharines General. My son has struggled with infection after infection for the last 18 months. Every doctor I've met in that time has brushed me off with "viral" and he will get over it. More recently I phoned her office after my son had been very much fevered for 5 days and wasn't doing well. She immediately saw him in office, treated him and sent us on our way. Unfortunately and absolutely NO fault of hers, we missed something along the way, the next day I called her office again, very concerned. She immediately referred us to McMaster ER. We hustled up there only to be ignored and dismissed with no further testing, a dose of pedipred and a Tylenol regimine. We arrived back home around 3am, by 930am I knew something was still very very wrong with my child. Could not lift his head, couldn't stand, walk, wouldn't speak, nothing but sleep. I phoned up her office again she instructed me to bring him in right away. Upon exam she sent us over to the pediatric CDU at the general. She was incredibly concerned about my sons wellbeing. After a battery of testing and a two night admission, it was concluded that my son was infected with not only croup, but Influenza A and an ear infection. While 2 of the 3 are viral infections, his breathing, and other symptoms needed hospital care. He required IV fluid and medication, as well as proper monitoring and observation. If it wouldnt have been for the care, concern, and thoroughness of Dr Ogunkeye, I truly fear what the outcome for my family would've been as no one, not even my husband was taking me seriously. Ive spent every moment of this childs life with him I know him better than anyone. She didn't for one second make me feel crazy or question the validity of my "mom gut". I truly cannot thank her and her staff enough not only for listening and putting up with a very exhausted distraught mama, but for taking the time to actually care about my son. We do not have enough medical practitioners in our world like her. We certainly would benefit from more of this. If you are lucky enough to have Dr O care for your child, you are incredibly blessed. I don't know if she is accepting new patients in her practice, but I promise you that you wont find a more caring doctor for your child. I will forever be thankful and I will do everything I can to keep my son active in her practice until he 18. The only other pedi that I have felt so positively and strongly toward was Dr Kwame Donkor who retired about 5 years ago. Please, I beg of you, don't ever retire, children really need you in their corner. Thank you so much for being the most incredible pediatrician and human ever, we are so grateful.

Went to Dr Ogunkeye for the second time for my baby to get her vaccines, it was a rainy day and we were told to go back to the car to wait for our appointment because there is a family in the waiting area. (only for the second visit, not the same case for the first visit, that's why I was confused) I have asked for written policy and no written policies we're provided. We asked if there could be an exception because the weather and it is uncomfortable for the baby (2 month old) to be carried back and forth. No exception was made. The overall experience is average but the doctor is real good. Hopefully there could be some exceptions because of the weather to avoid potential risks.

Refused to see my son multiple times, opted for phone calls after hounding reception (which always takes calling about 40 times to get through). My son had issues she refused to deal with and had me buy him a probiotic and made weird assumption about go a dairy allergy that is not a real problem for him. The receptionist is extremely rude and off putting, dr o is very short and doesn’t listen to concerns. It’s very sad that I can’t take my son to his own doctor, clinics are always a better option than going to her, as you can never even get in to see her. I do not recommend using dr ogunkeye as your paediatrician.

Extremely rude paediatrician who does not even look you in the eyes when she talks to you. Always late and rushing through appointments. She wasn’t nice to our baby either. Would not recommend her. Better off going to walk in clinic. Our healthcare system is a joke.

After scheduling an appointment I was not able to attend due to a family cold. We rescheduled and showed up at our appointment time only to be told by the receptionist, Erica, that we were not in the system at all. I live a good distance away from this office and it’s not easy getting there. The receptionist refused to squeeze me into the schedule and is obviously incompetent at her job - terrible manners and poor organization and scheduling. I can’t comment on the doctor as I never made it to the appointment.

Refused to schedule appt. for my baby even when I begged as I felt it was very important. Never took my concerns seriously. Closed Saturday- Tuesday and phone is always busy. The walk in clinic is more reliable.

Worst experience of my life.  We received a referral to this doctor for my sister, the receptionist called me while I was driving and made an appointment for 9 am, I remembered the address and time, but didn't make a notice. I didn’t receive confirmation of the appointment and when I looked up the clinic’s address, I saw that on Tuesday they are open from 9:30, so I began to doubt whether I heard the time correctly, but it was 5 pm and I couldn’t call.  We arrived at 9:30 am and the receptionist said that the appointment was at 9 and they would not accept us.  I apologized and explained the situation, but the receptionist said that they would not accept us today and unlikely could accept us later.  We left, but returned (only because my mom bagged for help) we were desperate because my sister is 14 years old and anyone couldn’t help us for more than six months. We are newcomers and don't have a family doctor or people who can recommend one. And I'm always on time for any appointments as I also work with customers. Receptionist agreed to text to doctor and few minutes later said that we can wait in the room for doctor. But when doctor came in, she just started asking what she has to do with us, I explained one more time our situation, she started raise her voice, that she has another patient (there one came later). I didn’t want to take anyone's time, all I was asking - to reschedule our appointment, but she told us that she doesn't reschedule people who doesn't show up and she will not help us.  In the and she screamed at her receptionist that she made a chaos, and the receptionist tried to explain that we didn't get a confirmation etc. Anyway first - it was my fault not to clarify the time in advance, but honestly after leaving her place I was shaking, no doctor in my entire life has ever been so rude to me! Don't waste your time and health here! Walk in clinic on Facer street is much better!!! To doctor I just want to say that Earth is round, once you will be in desperate need for help, you will face the same attitude you gave us today.

Our children have been "patients" here for almost four years and have only seen the doctor three times for routine immunizations. It's nearly impossible to get in. Everytime we've called, we've been made to wait a month for an appointment... after calling many times just to get through to a rude receptionist. Sadly, we rely on walk-in clinics now. I recently learned that family doctors get a nice yearly payout from the government just to have patients on file, even if they don't see them 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♀️

Good doctor, but always 45min+ late. Even when I’m her first appointment of the day (today) she’d be very late coming into work. Not ideal when you’re asked to undress your newborn as soon as you come in. Other than that she’s good.

Zero respect for their patients. The doctor is always late (you will need to wait at least one hour every time), but you cannot be a minute late and you missed your appointment. Both the staff and the doctor are not friendly at all.

As a new mum, my 4 week old son was referred to Dr Ogunkeye to examine a concern relating to his hip (possible dislocation). I missed 2 calls from the office, once in the morning and once at 8pm the same evening. In between this time, I tried over 8 times to reach the office with no success. I was not able to leave a message as they weren't accepting outgoing messages. At 8pm I recieved an extremely unprofessional, aggressive and rude voice-mail to say that reaching me was "impossible" and they were sending back the referral and I should seek another provider. On Tuesday, (not open on Monday) I contacted the office first thing. I tried 20 times to reach them and eventually got through. The receptionist, Michelle was extremely unprofessional, no empathy or any bedside manner. She mentioned she would confirm with Dr Ogunkeye re the referral and called me back to let me know "the referral been refused". When I tried to reason with her (refusing a referral for missing phone calls seems unreasonable to me). I let her know how many times I contacted the office, asked for a little bit of Grace / empathy / understanding as a new mom, she said "it's the doctors perogative to refuse a referral". I told her I'd be lodging a complaint as this violates my rights as a patient. She rudely remarked "you're not a patient". As a Healthcare consumer / patient in Ontario we have the right to receieve proper and safe care. I think medical professionals and staff often forget that we have rights. To turn away a patient in need (a 4 week old baby) is unfathomable to me. Dr Ogunkeye acted unprofessionally and I will have her conduct investigated by the CPSO. Quite frankly, if I could rate this office 0 stars I would. I am quite relieved this happened as I would not want my son anywhere near this place! Especially as a pediatrician, to have no empathy, care or compassion for children or new parents.

Dr.Ogunkeye is an amazing practitioner. She is warm and gentle. She doesn’t push prescriptions when there is a natural remedy available. She takes her time and speaks the truth about the situation. No nonsense doctor. I appreciate her help with my kids when needed. Thank you

Dr Ogunkeye & her staff need to do better, they never answer the phone, or if they do it’ll be because a answering service has done it for them and they don’t have the answers to the questions you’re asking, it’s always “ please call back” when you do finally get through her secretary sounds like she’s had enough, dr ogunkeye has the worst patient & staff relationship, and she’s very dismissive to any concerns you bring up, my child has had a few rashes and she’s dismissed them, I’ve found a new family dr who counteracted what dr ogunkeye had to say and has then treated my child accordingly. I do not recommend this dr for your child/children it’s not worth the headache, it’s frustrating and difficult, just to get in contact with her you have to jump through hoops & hurdles. Just to be heard is to be dismissed. Not worth it

Great dcotor. Horrible phone staff. Book appointments and change them without telling me. Then blame me for it. Never get confirmation calls. Never wanted to switch doctors but now I am at that point because of the constant hassle

Dr ogunkeye is nice but the system and secretary is ridiculous. If the secretary calls out sick one day they have no one else to cover. It's the answering service. Not very helpful for patients that need faxes sent or personal info, or even to book an appointment! You get dinged for using clinics but can't get ahold of the dr to use them. Avoid just for this headache and never knowing if you'll get through to someone

Great pediatrician, and not an overly busy office. The Dr always addresses concerns, listens to feedback, and has great bedside manner with the kids.

We called looking for a pediatrician for our new born and we were asked about vaccines right away on the phone if we wanted to do them at 2 and 4 months. I said we would like to know more info. Then the secretary called back saying they don’t accept new patients. The approach was very cold.

My son was born August 5th and we needed to get him a Pediatrician since my family doctor doesn’t see newborns which I hadn’t expected. Immediately after my son was born I contacted dr ogunkeyes office to see if they were accepting patients, the receptionist said they were and took down my information and told me I needed a referral for ongoing care (but since I had no doctor to see my newborn she said I had to take him to the walk in clinic and have them send a referral). He went to the walk in clinic August 8th where they referred me to her practice. I called them August 9th and receptionist said “I don’t see anything here, I’ll keep looking and will call you back”. I called the clinic to have them resend the referral but reassured me that it went through the first time. I gave it a few more days and called dr ogunkeyes again ( receptionist took down my info yet another time and said she would call me back). Days go by, no call back. I called clinic again where they resent it again and weeks were continuing to pass with no return call. I continued to call on a weekly basis where the receptionist would just take down my info every time and say she would call me back but NEVER did once and would always just say “ I can’t seem to find it, I’ll look and call you back”. Finally when he was 2 months old and I was desperate for a well baby checkup, I spoke with her a final time where she said “ we aren’t accepting patients anymore” I had told her she took all my info down 5 times since August 5th but never contacted me and at THAT time she was accepting patients. She just said “ oh well not anymore sorry”. I ended up calling the clinic where they referred me elsewhere and the other office contacted me the next day for an appointment. The receptionist is totally unprofessional and unreliable.

Dr. Ogunkeye has been great whenever we have taken our daughter to see her. Very friendly, informative and makes our daughter feel comfortable. Her receptionist however is the most unprofessional/unfriendly person I've ever spoken to at a doctors office. It baffles me how she got and keeps her position there. You have to call so many times to get her to answer, right away puts you on hold and after waiting you just get disconnected or if she does pick up there is no formal greeting to let you know you've called the right place, just "Hello?" in an annoyed tone. She makes you feel like you have truly inconvenienced her by calling.
