The selection and prices are really good but recently they have been reducing staff. The staff that worked through the pandemic seem to be gone. There are fewer cashiers open now that the self checkout is available. The staff no longer bring in the carts to sanitize them. You have to bring in your own cart and sanitize it yourself. REVISION??? Months later than the original comments, nothing has improved. At one time, most of my shopping was done at Food Basics, but now I go through the ads and shop where the specials are.

I went to customer service desk to send money through Western Union, cashier said she had to call Joanne I think her name was who was a manager. After waiting there for 15-20 minutes with many pages for her with no response she shows up, no apologies, no hello, no smile at all. I guess i disturbed her from whatever she was doing. All she said was ‘ your the one that wants to send money”I said yes. She presses some buttons on the machine and says I’m locked out ‘you can go across the street and send money’ At that moment I was extremely angry, it was just an excuse not to do it. It seems every time I go to use western union I can’t. The reasons given are the machine doesn’t work, the person left for the day is most often used. If your representing another service in the store yet nobody seems to know how to do a simple task, then don’t bother having it in the store. Im a paying customer and I find your staff is very rude, most of all that manager should not be in that position, she has no idea how to treat customers. She needs to get rid of her horrible attitude.

We stopped here for some snacks and drinks on our way back home. The store has everything you may need. We forgot our shopping bags and they have some conveniently located next to the register for purchase. Good value for money and great staff.

BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU BUY YOUR MEAT AT THAT LOCATION. I bought ground lamb ( the 454g sealed package) On December 18th 2023, once I got home I opened the package and the smell was very bad ( sour meat ). I went back to the store and showed them the meat. I didn’t grab my receipt as I didn’t think I would have any reason to return anything. The store manager that was on duty (I’m not sure about her name - Devon or Yvonne or something like that) refused to acknowledge this issue and seemed to think it wasn’t against the public health and safety act. It isn’t okay to sell food that people can get food borne illness from. I wasn’t willing to take that risk. I proceeded to call another location once I returned home (with my sour meat) and they told me that even without a receipt I could receive an in store credit. I wasn’t looking for a refund. I was going to purchase more meat from their store as that’s why I went there in the beginning. Instead I was left unsatisfied and without dinner for this evening. All because someone was too lazy to do their job. And how do so many people working in customer service even have these jobs to begin? Clearly she knows nothing about customer service.

Great finds but the staff here are so rude and dead they don't even smile at you or greet you just so customer feel comfortable feels worse then a funeral home. They all have mean mugs. The owner needs to fire them ALL and get new staff because they all suck, the cashier and the ones stocking up have Bad attitudes.

Very disappointing trend happening here the last few times I’ve been. But yesterday was absolutely ridiculous. They’re not staffing correctly. One cashier open. Lineup almost to the entrance. Making people go through the self checkout. Let’s be honest… some people have a hard time peopling. So that area was a disaster. No carts in the store. All clogged up outside. These grocery stores have been soaking the public for a while now so it can’t be due to lack of money to hire staff. It won’t take much in these times for people to just get fed up. Do better Food basics. Ps the pharmacy as a whole here is absolutely amazing. Great staff. Cheers,

Becoming more and more disappointed in this store. Was not happy that in the middle of a pandemic they ad in self checkouts, forcing the remaining cash registers closer together and increasing the likelihood of covid transmission between employees and customers alike. Self checkouts take away jobs. Less people working cash, and increased lineups. Last weekend there was 3 registers open and over 40 people waiting to use them, making maneuvering around aisles difficult. This weekend an employee approaching pensioning age complained to me that they had to beg another employee to take their hours in order for them to make ends meet. Meanwhile, I had to go back outside to get a cart from the corral in the parking lot to use, then disinfect myself as there was not brought to the storefront. Meanwhile there is 4 kids goofing off at the storefront not working, and not going to get carts when I informed customer service. I wonder how we're expected to shop without buggies? Not that there is much to chose from anymore. Sale prices are not sales, stock is non existent in some departments (meat and dairy for example) and the prices for half rotten produce is ridiculous. $4 for a brown head of lettuce? No thank you.

Shelves lately have been bare of products in some sections. Meat section was particularly bad. Practically no beef products and lots of empty spots at sausages. Girls on staff at cash who are very young are usually on their cell phones. This store is bo longer run properly. I used to enjoy shopping here but no longer

Thomas is an absolute gem!! Super helpful and always kind. He makes my day every time I shop!! Can't forget to mention how happy and funny he is too!! He goes the extra step to make everyone feel more than just a customer in the store.

Great prices, always stocked up and clean, bright store with large aisles. Really excellent international section and always low prices. They have self-checkouts and regular checkout also.

I’ve been shopping at this store for over seven years. It is close to my home and very convenient. Unfortunately I will no longer waste my time there. This store is consistently out of the eggs, produce and more that I shop for. When they don’t have it, I can always find it at Metro, Zehrs, FreshCo, no frills. I won’t be going back here. Not recommended.

Would not give us a refund or replacement for ground meat that was bad (but not yet expired). Said they couldn’t give us the refund or replacement without the meat package’s label.., which we threw out because it was meaty/smelly/gross. Have never had a manager not help on an issue like this at any grocery store we’ve ever shopped at (though usually the ground beef isn’t already bad when we bring it home). Lots of grocery shopping options in town - we won’t shop here again.

I generally like this place. It usually carries lots of sales items. But they are really bad when it comes to scheduling cashiers or maybe managing them. Because when I stopped in after work during what is normally a busy time for grocery stores, they had only two cashiers working. So I'm not sure how to rate them because in off-hours I actually like shopping here. They have good prices and more than adequate stock but it's pretty painful to stand in one of only two line-ups and watch a number of other staff just walking around seemingly not bothered by the long line-ups of customers.

Low quality control. They constantly let frozen food and dairy thaw out and not maintain temperature leading to ruining of the products and possible contamination. I can hear the manager now "leave it, somebody will buy it". Also, they had little black bugs in the pasta one time. The employees are either too old, too young or too new to this country to care. Will be going Costco from now on.

old review: Switched to shopping here recently, very good prices. Edit: The quality of this store has fallen a bit. Never any carts or baskets available to use cause they're so backed up on collecting them from the returns, items completely unstocked and some items that i usually buy here look like they've been completely removed from the shelves. Spent way longer then needed in here aswell due to employees talking to eachother in the middle of aisles as if they're arent other people trying to get around.

  • 5/5 Amy C. 11 months ago on Google
There's always lots of employees making sure the shelves are stocked and there to help if needed. Lots of good sales on. Store wasn't too crazy busy like some days.

Selection good. Some of the employees seemed very stressed out. Asking where things were got them real agitated. My cashier seemed very new. Our line moved slow. Seemed like she could have used more training time. She was nice. Just overwhelmed. Not fair to her or the customers in line.

they good selection of grocery items. but prices are a bit high. self checkout is a total waste of time here.

Store was clean. Not a lot of options at the time I went at produce. They have great stuff in the kitchen of the world lane which is number 7.

Great products at a really great price. Stuff disappears too quickly when they have a sale. They have really good selection and carry wider selection than the more expensive stores. It’s the only place in town where I could find red sweet potato with white inside! Good prices on staples and with the new grocery prices we are literally surviving because of this store.

Its a basic grocery store. Plenty of parking as its in a plaza with another grocery store...(zears) .thats different 2 in the same plaza .anyway there are good specials from time to time. Checkout lady was pleasant

Their sales are a guise to sell rotten food that's still within best-before dates. Just a few weeks ago bought the pricier milk that was on sale and it was spoiled. A few months ago, it was cheese on-sale that was literally black with mold and should have been removed from the shelves (unfortunately I grabbed two at a time and didn't see the bottom one was finished, check-out girl didn't see it either). They're also understaffed at the check-out lane so the line-ups are often huge, where's management? The only redeeming point about this store is the staff are nice and helpful.

This is a great place to go shopping for essentials, I always enjoy the visit. They have clean self-serve stations (disinfected between customers) as well as traditional clerks who are polite & helpful. Produce is fresh, quality & usually have some really great specials. I stop here nearly every day as it's on my route home. There are other options in the same mall, but I chose this one 90% of the time (unless I have a specific coupon for example). Yeah, I wholeheartedly endorse this Food Basics.

Typical Metro owned store with one cashier at noon on a Friday. Produce okay, but not great. Some good sales. Generally okay.

Pretty good! The produce section could use some TLC in that I find the fruit and veg spoils very fast, BUT overall: I very much enjoy shopping here. :)

  • 5/5 George S. 1 year ago on Google
Something changed with this store. The meat is fresh, the employees are clean, the vegetables are fresh, the variety, quite good. Also some smart changes are in place . Probably has a new manager, however things are different and service towards excellence. From my point of view the store, the management and the employees deserve a well worth five stars.

This is my goto grocery store. Yes, I always get more groceries for less money than I would pay elsewhere. The cashier tills are busier so there is bit of wait there. But overall it is a great store. This Food Basics has updated its outlay recently so the isles are more accessible now.

Close to work and they usually have some good deals

  • 5/5 Eva K. 2 years ago on Google
I never shopped there before but I kept seeing great deals on their flyer. To my surprise I not only got great prices but also extremely polite and friendly service. We think if we shop at lower prices we don't get the service but we do.

  • 5/5 Andi C. 2 years ago on Google
Food basics is always a cheaper option for getting groceries. Although, when it comes to picking up produce, I find it is better to go at the beginning of each flyer week. It's slim pickings when I go at the end of the flyer week.

  • 5/5 Chris G. 2 years ago on Google
The isles are clearly marked to help you find whatever is on your list. Staff is usually restocking the shelves and are willing to assist you. The customers washrooms are always clean. The personnel check out employees are friendly and very patient with you. They reassure you to take your time packing your groceries. They always sanitize their area before and after you leave. Depending when you go there usually no line ups. Shopping carts are always sanitized. Wearing a mask is always a big issue. Safety first.

No issues with the store itself. I was walking by the meat department and witnessed a rude employee exchange. A women was opening boxes to stock shelves, her treatment of a co worker (who was also stocking) was inappropriate and belittling. I felt bad for the man she works with. My hope is she will receive some training around teamwork and communication with respect.
