Had a great experience at this antique library and clearly people are taking very good care of the place, as everything is well maintained. It’s like walking through a gate back in time. Don’t skip this when you visit St Gallen. Also don’t forget to check the basement for more historical pieces.

The Abbey Library in St. Gallen is a breathtaking slice of history! It’s smaller than it looks in photos but still packs a big wow factor. Photos are allowed (sans flash), and yes, you get to wear slippers over your shoes—sliding on the wooden floors is half the fun! Highlights include the impressive old globe and the unexpected mummy at the back. The combo tickets are worth it, with fascinating exhibits about St. Gall and St. Gallen's legendary origins. A must-visit for history buffs and book lovers alike!

I highly recommend taking the time to visit and appreciate the rich history the Abbey has to offer. Words and photos cannot fully describe the extraordinary beauty. You will be in awe of the ornate architecture, exquisite flooring in the library, detailed descriptions, artifacts and preservation of the books. The staff were so kind and wonderful. We absolutely loved visiting this historical site with our teens. Thank you so very much for allowing us to visit. I highly recommend you enjoy a visit to the St. Gallen Abbey library and cathedral.

The highlight of any visit to St Gallen, this baroque library is smaller than I thought, but still astonishing. The ticket also gives access to a large underground exhibition and to a third exhibition area on the other side of the monastery. Check the mummy!

Come visit the stunning Baroque Hall and explore a unique collection of ancient manuscripts at the Abbey Library of St. Gall. This historical gem has been preserving manuscripts for over a thousand years, showcasing the evolution of European culture since the Middle Ages. Don't miss the temporary exhibitions in the Baroque Hall, featuring UNESCO-honored manuscripts highlighting the Abbey of St. Gall's rich history. To make the experience even richer, get the audio guide. The information you will get with it is priceless 👌.

If there was an option to rate 5 stars +, I would have chosen that. Amazing place in every sense, the history, the smell of old books, the design/craftsmanship, the floor, the sealing…..simply unique. I highly recommended to go here, I would say you haven’t been in St Gallen if you haven’t seen the library. In 2024, ticket prices are 18CHF for adults, children up to 16 years are for free when accompanied by adults.

Truly unique place, worth the 18 CHF per person. You can buy the tickets there, no waiting time, we visited on Saturday, allowed to take pictures, you have to wear protective shoes that go outside your regular shoes.

Super nice experience. There's a free guided tour on Saturday at 13.00 in German. Very interesting, took more than an hour. Without the tour you'd be fine in 5-10 mins.

What a beautiful historical place. You can not rent the books here, they are for show. Everything is old and handcrafted. You have to wear houseshoes over your shoes to safe the old wooden floor. There also is a mummy here, but that is the only item you are not allowed to photograph. Otherwise you can take pictures without flash.

WoW should be everyone reaction. It’s hard to give the description what your eyes can see in that place. I was shocked with ticket price - but it’s definitely worth seeing it. Maybe running and screaming students are not well managed but this place must be in your TO SEE list, just look at photos - it’s really like on it
