It’s okay, I’d only workout here if I absolutely had to. I understand the PureGym business model, but you’d hope better in Spinningfields. Firstly, the gym itself is quite tired. The treadmills and stair masters look ancient, with the buttons barely working. The weight machines and rack are well stocked, but again look tired. They are however clean. Secondly, the heat. It’s simply way too hot in there. The air con clearly doesn’t work (or if it does, not very well) and instead there’s a few fans dotted about the place, which don’t do much in normal settings, let alone a gym environment. Worryingly, there are many reviews with similar complaints. More concerning, I think these complaints are ignored due to the sheer volume of people who attend this gym, so the attitude of “if it ain’t broke” is evident. Let’s hope the staff take notice of these views and make the necessary improvements. It’s a great shame as the gym itself has potential and is in prime location.

One of the best gyms I have ever been to. Clean, fresh, everything seems to be new. Highly recommend 💪💯💥

Convenient Location - friendly staff. Ideally needs someone to tidy up the weights, or penalise the Cavemen at night leaving the heavy weights thrown all over the floor. At 5.30am - it looked like I’d walked into a post Robbery vs presentable and professional Gym.

Pretty much impossible to train if you do any sort of barbell weightlifting. There are only two power racks and one bench in the free weights area . Even if you go off peak times, you can’t be guaranteed a workout. They have signed up way way more people than this gym can sustain. Great if you are into cardio and machine work however as the whole gym is filled with machines and treadmills.

Nice gym but in recent months has became ridiculously busy around 6pm puts you off going , lack of plates in the weights room means you spend 5 minutes looking around for weights for each exercise

A brilliant gym in the heart of the city. Located in Spinningfields by The Ivy. The equipment is always clean and tidy and ready to use. If anything is broken it’s repaired with speed. The staff are always cheery and polite. The space is extremely LGBTQ+ friendly and welcomes everyone any anyone at any fitness level. You always feel very safe and supported. I’ve been coming for about 8 years now and can honestly say it’s the best gym in Manchester.

The training area is totally fine, but why it’s so bloody cold in the gym all the time? Dear stuff, can you please level down the air conditioning, because it’s impossible to working out in the gym which feels like freezer

Attended Ben Baxter’s spin class for the past 5yrs, he’s consistently excellent and always puts in 110% himself. Feel like I’ve had a proper workout afterwards!

Gym is well equipped with good staff but (this is really down to PureGym business model above all else) it is just too busy. Even outside of peak times (my typical slot is 20:00-22:00) you wait around 45 mins in total to get everything done if you need a rack for example. With its increasing popularity it will only get worse, but there is nothing physically wrong with the gym I’d hasten to add.

They’re doing maintenance work for 8 weeks which is fine but recently every time I go in the changing room there’s men working in there for hours. Last week there was a poster up in advance saying they’d be in there 10-12 so you know to have a shower before that but this week there was no poster. Really annoying when you need to go straight to work and can’t have a shower and have to get changed in tiny cubicles

Dreadful. This is easily the worst gym experience in my life. The equipment available was dreadful. The available cable machines were too few and the attachments available for them were even worse. The free weights section is a joke with little space, a single bench for barbell workouts and a laughably small amount of plates. The machines were plenty but are only useful if you fit certain body proportions. If you are serious about your fitness goals any other gym would be better for you. Don’t waste time on this gym.

Generally happy with gym. Only issue is there isn't enough plates. It's a pain trying to find enough to work out with. MORE PLATES PLEASE

The gym itself is ok, i did not have a good experience at all with one of the Personal Trainers there and i advise any one to avoid this PT, i had 4 sessions with her the first session she showed up late, and the 4th session she just didn't bother showing up at all, i sat there for 15 minutes before a manager called her and she arrived saying she'd forgot about the session, during the sessions i was treated like a household pet dog, the sessions with this PT were what i would describe as authoritarian and emotionally abusive, she was bossing me around in the sessions in a manner that was degrading to me, she had me fetching and carrying gym equipment for her, i had 4 more sessions left but the sessions had to end because of this PT's bad behaviour, she tried to withhold the money i was owed for those 4 sessions, then tried to have my membership cancelled, even though i have been a member of Pure Gym for years, she is the worse trainer i have ever come across tania emmanuel

This is another great gym in the pure chain. Well spaced out equipment with a good vibe. Is busy at peak times so waiting for equipment is the norm, outside of this though there is plenty available. Good standard gym in the heart of Altrincham with parking available.

A very good PureGym and one of the more stylish branches I've been to. Just one big problem: hardly any plates. Seriously guys, there's nowhere near enough. Also, would be good if you could fit a hack squat machine somewhere! Otherwise, great.

The gym itself is big and 24hr so those are two major selling points, however, with it being in such a central location it is always busy! There's a good mix of machines and a large collection of dumbbells in the free weights section but there's only 1 bench, 1 deadlift platform and 1 power rack for a gym that frequently gets 100+ people in. Like many PureGym locations it appeals to a wider audience and isn't great for power lifting specifically but is a top tier choice for general fitness and workouts. My major drawback is if you go at times that coincide with classes, they don't have their own room rather just a section cut off from the room but with a completely open top and no door so the music and shouting from the spin classes can quite often overwhelm your own music if you prefer in ear earphones rather than over ear headphones.

I think this is a pretty good gym but it is hard to find sprays and paper towels to clean equipment (unhygienic). The dumbbells are not organised correctly and it seems that the soap dispensers in the male changing rooms are often empty. EDIT - The taps in the male changing rooms also have no hot water!

Outstanding gym experience with personal trainer Poppy. Her expertise and encouragement propelled me towards fitness goals with personalised, workouts. Shes created a supportive and motivating environment. Highly recommend this gym, especially if you're lucky enough to train with her!

Good gym overall. Some times too busy but it is understandable as per the location. The gym is OK, 4/5 I would say.

Great value gym at great location. However, the AC really needs fixing. It is getting boiling hot, i cannot do a workout without getting absolutely drenched at the moment. It is warmer than the outside!

My female friends always get harassed by the blonde gym instructor, he chats them up every time and behaving in a very unprofessional way towards them. The employees need to have boundaries. Not abusing their position to force people to talk to them. I give 1 star. Avoid at all costs. Some of my friends left because of this. Very uncomfortable enviornment.

When I went into PureGym (spinningfields) there was so much space and I felt that it was very good. As I was working out I saw that there was so much benches in the Dumbbells area and some of the machines are in this location but not in my local one. This kind of irritated me a little but all in all it was good

Good as a temp gym when working in City centre. A lot of machines. All working. Can get crowded with a few rare ones, however good my shift in.

Maintenance is really poor. Air con breaks every summer and instead of fixing them they use portable units that are only good if you're directly in front of them so the gym is roasting. Not enough sanitisation stations and dispensers are often not working.

  • 2/5 Libby L. 8 months ago on Google
It’s so hot in the place it makes me want to leave my workout early to get some colder air outside - forget doing anything cardio-wise. The aircon has been non-functional for months, and I know people (including myself) have brought this up to staff in person, so it seems as if higher management are not prioritising this because people come to the gym in droves despite its unpleasantness to be in. I wouldn’t come at peak times if you need to do strength training, turns an hour’s workout into 2 as you have to negotiate with people for your turn on a piece of equipment, especially benches. The staff are very kind though, and seem apologetic and embarrassed at the time it is taking to fix pertinent things such as the aircon.

The gym is very convenient for the before work workout but even better the range of lunchtime classes gives me that extra 30 minute workout with high energy and great music. Thank You: Alex, Ben, Chris and Kyle for the lunchtime cycle.

(Used the spinningfields site at 9pm)Very clean, well maintained and plenty of equipment. Only issue i had was there is no plate tree in the "strength" section so was hard to get the correct weight sometimes, had to go over to another area to get them hoping the bench I was using didn't get taken in the process. Other than that it was a very good experience

Pros: - Big space - 3 squat racks and an additional Squat rack/deadlift rack - 2 Bench presses - lots of weight machines and cardio equipment Cons: - One plate tree for the 3 squat racks and bench presses - Hard to find weight plates if even slightly busy

Pure gym multi access is great. I use the spinningfields gym regularly. The spin classes are fantastic. Each instructor has their own style so it’s great variety. Brilliant staff members who always make you feel welcome. Josh, Chris, Renata etc are amazing.

My spouse loves it! True, it lacks sauna and swimming pool - but it's open 24/7.

A few of the air conditioning units are not working and it can become uncomfortably warm in the locker rooms as there is no air con.

As puregyms go this is definitely a better one. Very busy 6-9 am and 5-8 pm but definitely better than the market Street PureGym.

Awesome place and lovely environment. Equipments are up to date and well maintained. Staffs are always available and very kind. The neatness about the place is really awesome with everything well arranged and staffs cleaning and clearing rough arrangements and ensuring things are in other. It’s been my gym for 9months and I reckon I’d be using pure gym for years to come. Cheers.

Decent gym but there is nowhere near enough plates and dumbells. Other gym users also rarely put their weights back on the stands meaning at times it's really difficult to find the weights you need. Management please buy more plates for the gym!

Great gym, lots of equipment, appropriately staffed and most importantly the people tend to put their weights back so gym is usually tidy. Can get busy at times but that’s expected.

Very clean and safe gym in a great location. I have only just joined and been to Ben and Chris's cycle classes this week. Highly recommend both classes as they are energizing, fun and will leave you feeling like you had a great workout. Overall it's a really nice gym and glad I signed up to it.

Great gym centrally located in Manchester with a good range of equipment, spaced out well. I’ve been training with Poppy for three months and she is by far the best PT I have ever come across. I’ve made great progress with her through her tailored approach to training, and my confidence in going to the gym and in myself has skyrocketed. Couldn’t recommend her more. Thank you Poppy!

The gym is very well equipped and the perfect size! I'm a regular at Kyle's classes which are top notch and really keep motivation up and give steady, visible improvement. Definitely recommended :)

I trained here with the PT Poppy and I’ve also been to one of her classes. She’s an amazing personal trainer she really takes into account your goals and tailors a plan to suit you. I actually started loving the gym again since starting back with her support. I really reccomend booking in with poppy especially if you have gym anxiety like me ! The gym as a whole is great to, very well looked after.

I have only been attending Chris’ cycle class the past 2 weeks and I’ve been enjoying it so much! Chris has been great getting me motivated and making a class that was so daunting to me so enjoyable!
