Folks should know that the trails are easy to walk (lots of small hills and valleys) and that this "living tree museum" is designed to provide color and interest in all seasons (for winter it's holly berries and camellias; in the spring the magnolia blossoms are incredibly showy). Make sure you stop and take time to explore/look around: I thought a tree had been carved into and my husband pointed out that it was insect activity - so cool. And, you can park pretty much anywhere in the park - but obey the signs and leave ZERO that's valuable in your car Thieves are pretty common and they've smashed windows even in crowded spaces, so just beware so that you can enjoy yourselves.

Peaceful place for an east walk or hike with kids or family. It is nice and serene and the trees provide a wonderful cool place to explore nature. I definitely suggest this place if you want a good quick hike with young kids.

So many fun little trails great for everyone, including handicap. A fun sense of nature, with all the comfort of knowing restrooms and parking lots are close by. Fun for picnics, getting to know someone, fun little date or a fun time with the family

Beautiful arboretum. Has charm in fall, when trees play with every color. The entire area is super clean and well kept. If every place was this clean, world would be nicer place.

Went out to the Arboretum on Thursday the 16th of Feb 2024. It started to rain, there, weather App stated no more rain till 4pm, wrong. Plenty of parking depending where you park and a small parking lot up at the Visitors Center. They do have signs up not to leave valuables in clear sight to prevent theft and a broken window. It was a rainy, foggy, breezy and chilly day but a great opportunity to walk the trails with little to no one there. Took my camera and phone and went out to see what I could see. Lots of nice wooded areas, trails are great but in heavy rain, very muddy so bring appropriate footwear. On a clear sunny day you can see Mt. St. Helens and Mt Adams quite easily. When you go over tot the Pittock Mansion you can see Mt. Hood very well if the clouds are not obscuring it. - Highly recommend bringing your camera for you might get lucky and see what I saw on this rainy day.

Breathtaking sights here. A wonderful trail and especially beautiful since it snowed. Just make sure to bundle up because it gets chilly in the evening!

Such a magical place inside Washington Park! So many breathtaking moments for me hiking the natural beauty of the forest.

WOW! What a fabulous place to visit for a hike or a stroll. Easy paths either paved or good gravel. One is surrounded by gorgeous trees of all sorts of types. The variety is greatly educational as many have their names attached. To top our experience we visited the Vietnam Memorial that is a communication masterpiece as not only honors the fallen Oregonians, but also places the visitors in various time periods covering the span of the Southeast Asia conflict. A solemn place worthwhile visiting, almost a must do for all whatever one’s historical knowledge, or political affiliation,or preconceived knowledge of the war itself.

So many trails to choose from! A little muddy in spots, I would suggest wearing hiking boots. Only walked through a portion of the trails on the west side of the visitor center building. For some fun interesting sights, grab the kids adventure map in addition to the full map. We saw a tree hit by lightning 40 years ago. Also, Hank (a visitor guide with arboretum) is great with tips and directions!!!

Parking is paid with numerous lots throughout park and surrounding. At various places throughout park there are maps showing all trails. I suggest taking a picture of the map so when you are hiking the park you have a good visual aid to assist in navigation. When you are on the trail there are signs/markers to aid you. Beautiful scenery we hiked from the zoo to pittock mansion was a great time and fairly easy hike. Some paved portions

Great area with lots of trails. The changing leaves are especially pretty right now. Small visitor center by one of the parking lots, has two bathrooms. There are paid lots or you can park on the side of the road.

Parked right next to the visitors center and paid $8 for parking the whole day. There were a lot of other hikers, but many times we were completely alone walking the trails and it was so peaceful. The maps were easy to follow and we did a handful of trails in just 3 hours. A lot of birds to spot. We saw chicakdees, juncos, a hawk, etc. A must see when you’re in the Portland area.

Magnificent arboretum! Huge collection of trees, great volunteers, endless paths and trails. Pay for parking. Visitor center and store with bathrooms. Picnic areas and covered pavillion. Some paths are ADA accessible, many are not.

We spent several hours here before our flight home. I was told "it's like central park." It is not like central park... but in a good way. Wear walking/hiking shoes. There are plenty of well maintained trails to explore.

The arboretum is an incredible place to visit. We love walking our dogs here and it is a must do for visitors. The redwood deck is amazingly beautiful and can't be missed. We love walking around and seeing the tree varieties - safe to say we are always finding new paths. It's great to hike up to Pittock mansion from the arboretum - another highlight for visitors! Can't say enough great things !

Been in Oregon for 2 years and haven't been close enough to go now we are one stop away on the train and it's absolutely beautiful so many trails so many things to look at. A great place for a party or a gathering. Great for some scenic natural healing. I love seeing all the beautiful trees and wild life it's so nice to see. My husband and I enjoyed it greatly. Very clean and very pretty

beautiful area. lots of trails with clear signage -- from a 30 min loop to a 2 hour loop, there's something for everyone. the area we parked in didn't have many spots, but we were able to find parking easily due to it being a wednesday morning.

Beautiful hiking trails through a variety of different trees and shrubs. We especially loved the redwood observation deck. Trails are well maintained and well marked. You could spend an entire day here.

Great place to walk in the woods so close to the city. You'll feel like you're out in the wilderness but on a easy to walk trail. Love how many trees are labelled so you know what you are looking at. The bamboo forest is pretty neat. Not that hard to access with transit using either the bus and the park shuttle, or just taking the MAX Red or Blue Line to the zoo station and walking down.

Beautiful natural oasis close to the city. Entry is free and you only pay for parking if visiting by car, which is $2 an hour or $8 max a day. We walked the redwood trail which takes about an hour and only went back to the car because it started to rain. Highly recommend this trail as the enormous trees are awe inspiring.

Redwood trail has been the fave. Good inclines. Wildwood trail is also great to hike through. Restrooms at the visitors center. Plenty of parking. Great place for all. Will definitely go again and try different variations of the loops. Make sure to grab a map at the visitors center. Cellular reception is hit or miss.

I swear, I think this park was the only place I really liked about Portland. It seemed like we were in a completely different place. It was so beautiful and there were so many trails to walk on. There was a nice playground for the kids and the rose gardens were stunning. The only thing that did turn us off were the prices to see the Japanese garden.. I dont remember the price per person but it was just too much for our family of 4 so we didnt see it. But we loved walking through the arboretum part.. so much of it we didn't get to see.. but honestly going back to this park would be the only reason I'd ever want to go back to Portland.

Always a great place for a short walk, a medium length hike or just a picnic. Every season offers a new atmosphere be it the cherry blossom time, fall foliage, sunny summers or lush green wet winter time. So there is no bad time to visit. Most trees are labeled which is great. There are lots of intersecting trails of various lengths and difficulties. Some trails are paved and accessible. Others are more rugged and can get wet in winter months. There are trail markers everywhere and lots of connecting trails. There are usually paid parking spots easily available right near the visitor center. Also, free street parking right outside that which can be more difficult to find.

Fantastic Arboretum! Love all of the plant/tree identification/info. They have trees from all over the world and there are benefits to visiting in all seasons. My personal favorites are the magnolias in Spring and the Redwoods any time of year!

Beautiful trails to walk and it was a great time seeing the living museum. Got some wonderful photos. There's a free shuttle that will take you around the entire park too and it runs every 15-30 mins daily. Really cool experience. We brought food and had a picnic on the trail. (if you do this please pick up all your trash.)

Fantastic place, great for a mild hike through wondrously and fragrant trees, and even the parking lots have surprises to find - I've seen 3 species I've never seen before (one was still a baby). Surprisingly few bugs - I guess the park's spiders are doing their job. For the challenge - find the dawn redwoods - they're tucked away in a corner which would be normally passed over.

Amazing. It's well worth the short trip from downtown. I could have easily filled a full day, but I only had about 4 hours there. Easy to get to by train & free shuttle, miles of beautiful well marked trails and stunning views.

I attended as part of a People of Color Outdoors activity. What an AMAZING experience. The Magnolia Garden was absolutely gorgeous. I learned so much about trees and how old the Magnolia tree itself is, as well as how many varieties of Magnolias there actually are! I saw some spectacular trees, hidden classroom spaces, and even got to make Mother's Day cards with pressed flowers from the Arboretum! Partnerships are the BEST!

Great variety of trees and paths (even shortcuts) to take. You can take an hour and a half and see the vast majority of the park, or take three or four and not be bored or going in circles. There is plenty of parking, and some good views (not of downtown). Very family-friendly... Saw a toddler walking through.

This place (Since 1928) proposed to conserve endangered species and educate the community, Hoyt Arboretum encompasses 190 ridge-top acres and 12 miles of hiking trails just minutes from downtown Portland. Home to 2,300 species of trees and shrubs from six continents, Hoyt Arboretum is a place to contemplate for a relaxing and serenity moment. You can join Washington park and see the Rose Garden and play tennis !

Huge park with miles of well marked trails through themed areas of the arboretum. We'll worth a visit.

theres a free shuttle that ends at 7pm. if you miss it you can take the max which is portlands train service. however i do recommend doing some trip planning if youre not driving since some of the areas are pretty far apart and it can feel a little scary to not have a plan after the sun is setting. the rose garden was stunning and so was the aboretum. i recommend bringing hiking shoes for the arboretum as some parts of the trail were pretty slippery.

Beautiful array and diverse tree groups, with charming fairly well worn gravel paths. The trails are a bit narrow at points for wider folks. Parking is very limited and many choose to park along the gravel shoulder. Park at your own risk. Remember there are no bathrooms or drinking fountains so go before you go and bring water. The smaller fence signs we found confusing, with fewer benches than we would have liked. However the woods and peaceful paths are utterly remarkable, considering just how close to the city center the arboretum resides. The absolute crown jewel of Portland nature walks and trails. Its worth the hassle of parking and perilous peak times path sharing.
