There were 3 adults and 4children in our group. The waitress was a young blonde girl. She was excellent. She RE arranged the seating area outside for us and was very polite and prompt in taking our order and delivering our drinks. The food took a bit longer to be delivered. 2 chicken soups. 2 jacket potatoes. Lamb chops fish and chips and a burger. Beans and toast. They had no mint sauce which I think there should be if you are selling lamb on the menu. . One soup was flavourless and waterery. The beans were clumpy and not very nice flavour. The skins of the jacket potatoes very soft and moist not nice and crispy as we would have liked. However the rest was quite nice. The waitress checked if we wanted anything else and then started to clear the dirty plates,an older woman then appeared and started to be really rude to her and interfering. Up until then I had been really happy with the service but she was horrible.she then presented us with the £85 bill and when we produced our cards told us we had to pay cash as there was a poor intenet signal. And we would have to get cash from the cash point machine across the road on the beach that charges £1.99 to with draw on debit cards. If this was genuine then there should have been a sign on the door, the waitress should have been advised and the waitress should have also been aloud to complete the whole process with us. The woman was awful. We won't be returning there

The place was cold and service was bad. The food was not fresh and the chips were frozen. Definitely do not recommend spending your money on awful food and horrible service.

£5 for 4 rings of calamari ???? 😳 They stole our money. Just came to this place as it was the only one on the street which served beers. Made a grave error. Please don’t eat here!!

Food was decent cafe food but I would not recommend this cafe. Firstly the staff were not quite ready to handle the amount of customers they had managed to get business for. It was a busy Bank Holiday with the sun out so the cafe was very busy. I found that the turn around time for the tables were not as fast as they could have been. We ended up sitting at a table with another group's half eaten meal in front of us before needing to specifically ask for the table to be cleaned up. Service at the cafe was slow too. Another table complained they had been waiting over an hour for their food with 4 adults and 3 kids. We were a group of 4 adults and we had been waiting almost 1 hr too for food. Not exactly a quick bite. As for the price of the food, it is in a very good location to the main attractions of Southend so its not exactly cheap. 1 decently big cooked breakfast, 2 coffees (separate from breakfast as not included with food) and a milkshake cost £14.50. For the price compared to the food quality and service, it's just not worth the price. I have been to many cafes that can still handle the same if not more customers in a timely manner albeit not as good location for a cheaper price (even in London) and manage to pull off a better job than this cafe did.

Got take out chips most weren’t cooked properly and had to be thrown away. Happy to take our money but then asked to wait outside. Will never ever return. Thank god I talked my other out of ordering fish & chips. Coz let’s face it if u fail to cook chips correctly I don’t think I’d trust the fish. Complete letdown!

Worst fish and chips I've ever had. Should have read the reviews before coming in. Server outside said this was the best fish and chips. Far from it. Chips definitely frozen and you can make nicer ones at home. I ordered a large cod and chips. Fish had a thin greasy batter and itself was small and thin. Do not recommend. Place should be closed down not having fresh chips on seafront

Very nice and fresh fish and chips. Chicken & Chips a little over priced. Friendly staff, always check on us if food and things are okay. Ignore the other poor reviews, you need to try.

Good tasty food. Kids menu could be expanded, not much choice. But great location.

We visited here last year and as we were back in Southend at the weekend decided to do so again . It was very busy in the early afternoon when we got there and so we went for a walk along the pier before going back later on and it was far less crowded. The fish was perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. We also had a good laugh with the guys who work there and will certainly pop in again should we ever be back in the area.

This is by far the WORST take away I’ve ever eaten. The atmosphere was not busy, there were drinks on the left side of the entrance stacked up on the floor. Me and my other half had travelled from far so like any couple the highlight of the trip shouldve been fish and chips. The service was moderate nothing over the top. However the food was unsalted, unseasoned but also made me and my other really poorly. We both had severely upset stomachs. The chips were pre cut frozen chips, the cheesy chips is just chips put into a microwave. For the price we paid it is astonishing they served us with this food. There was not one grain of enjoyment from this meal and it was meant to be the highlight of mine and my others day. I would avoid it at all costs.

Cheap food. Servers were nice. Food crispy but bland. Friend found various bones in her cod. Not very spacious. Would not recommend.

Great place and very nice fish, had haddock and chips size was good. Also got given extra chips for free. Would be nice to have a note on desk saying cash only.

Wouldn’t recommend at all. The portions are tiny compared to the neighbour shops. We got a medium and a large and it was sooo small. Also very tasteless and fish over cooked, chips were undercooked and so fought. Tasted overly fried and service wasn’t so great. Quite moody and slow, also the boss (I think it was) kept staring assuming we snuck drinks in or kept watching us which wasn’t nice at all. It made sense why they were so empty as we couldn’t find seats in the next shops.

The interior is OK. Staff not rude, more perfunctory and dismissive. Food utterly basic. Unsalted fish, lame oven chips. Tartar sauce 20p a sachet if you have the audacity to ask for it. Mushy peas? Nah. Side salad with other dishes? Nah. "Cash only" we're told then told we can pay by card if we must. Understand they have signal issues but also, not my problem 🤷‍♀️ thoroughly underwhelming and not remotely cheap

Service was beyond what we could ask for! Couldn’t fault it. We arrived with quite a few of us, including a toddler whose birthday it was, and a baby. Staff got a high chair for us, allowed us to bring the birthday cake for the toddler with candles and sing, they gave a free lollipop when the toddler was crying and helped cheer her up, and even accommodated us when she was sick. They were very kid friendly and understanding, even when we felt embarrassed. They also gave us extra drinks for free for her birthday. Food was tasty, nice portion size, and would highly recommend. We even stayed to chit chat to staff for a bit after we finished. Was a touching experience, and unexpected. We gave them some birthday cake and a tip, which was the least we could do! They deserved more.

Unfortunately not the right place we had been expecting on our family trip, the welcoming wasn’t the worst but it was quite overwhelming to find the tables so cluttered together in such a small place… After our order got taken we had to wait roughly 15-20 minutes for our first two mains to get to us. The portions of food despite being assigned as “medium” on the menu were overall small (the scampi and the calamari mains particularly). After another 10 minutes and a bit of confusion from a waiter we all got the food. The scampi was ridiculously small so we got told that another portion was going to be brought to us- nothing was mentioned of it being an addition on the bill; thus would after not get paid as a “on the house” dish, although we were told that it would’ve simply been considered as the regular portion and not an “extra”. Confusion aside and the uncomfortable moments I therefore do not recommend this place…

It is a lovely cafe/restaurant. It looks like it is newly renovated. The walls have fresh blue paint and nice decoration. Although the tables close to each other, you feel it is very spacious. You have much more choice of food here as compared to chippies around it. The reason we went with this particular cafe was that they did grilled fish. The grilled trout was lovely. Unfortunately, Southend pier has this problem that it is filled with fish and chips shops and you can't get anything healthy. We were delighted to find grilled fish and different type of paninis to be honest. The only problem with the place is that they are slow and a bit disorganised between themselves. You have got the wait more than you would normally. The staff that we came across was lovely, all 4 of them that we got to interact was nice. I would go there again but I probably ask what they have before entering.

The Italian ice cream is excellent, with generous portions and reasonably priced. Stop here for ice-cream rather than any of the horrible Mr whippy joints along the beach.

The food was fine but the customer service by a member of Staff was poor swearing because the contacless wasn't working due to phone signal I wouldn't be going there again sorry

Asked if we could stop for a drink got told by the waitress that was fine, we sat and ordered our drinks only for somebody else to come over and very rudely told us we were to order food as it was a bank holiday weekend, we then explained that we were told that was OK by another waitress to then be told we were liars, don't call yourself a cafe if you are not prepared to serve drinks only, and manners cost nothing, will not recommend and will not be returning

I would not recommend this cafe. I don't think I have ever been in any eatery where the staff were so rude. A very rude woman tried to make us order food we did not want after we were told we could order drinks only. Atmosphere was terrible. Tables were cramped. Waitress was pleasant and friendly. All other staff were in desperate need of customer service training. I would not grace this cafe with my presence again under any circumstances.

Decent food at affordable prices. Prawn cocktail £5.50, steak and chips £12.50, fish and chips varies depending on the size (£6-£10) but my friend said it was lovely. Nicely presented dishes, good prices and exceptional service from luigi and his team. Ill definitely go back.
