Enjoyed our visit to the Verulamium Museum St Albans. There's a pay and display car park opposite the museum and so much to explore nearby. The old theatre ruins are a short walk away and the Verulamium Park is situated opposite with a wildlife attraction on site and a nice café with plenty of benches and seating arrangements.

This Museum is very well organised. There are some prized items from Roman times and just enough explanations provided without going overboard with details. It was a joy to see a class of young pupils receiving a guided tour with various educational activities. The mosaics are stunning and the skeletons well preserved. In all, a most enjoyable and educational experience, highly recommended.

Good place to learn about the history of Verulamium. Exhibits from as old as 2000 years are preserved here with utmost care for everyone to experience.

Adults are now £8 (but only £6 if you book it online on their website) as a history buff, this really was a museum I’ve been looking forward to. They have displays of original artifacts ,skeletons, and some of the most stunning original mosaics in Europe. It’s extremely detailed, educational, and fabulously catalogued; including drawers, that you can personally roll out and see things that are not set up on the countertop. The videos are informative and I learn things that I didn’t already know; which is awesome. I actually learned a lot in there. What I was looking forward to seeing is the fashion of the women; the statues ,the art , the clay. I really appreciated seeing a lot of things like fabrics pins and needles and brooches and jewelry. One of my favorite parts is the coin 🪙 collection! It’s very impressive and well presented. The wall art that the ancients did were impressive with aesthetics . The lead coffin ⚰️ , is one of the finest specimens of its kind in the world. Some truly original stuff to see here that you will never see in the rest of the world.! And BTW, it’s an award winning museum. In a beautiful surroundings of flowering trees, gardens, and a gorgeous ancient park land.

This place was amazing and such great value. See photo for entrance prices. It comprises of three parts to the visit. The first is the museum, there are so many artifacts to see. The mosaics and small findings are in such good condition. The next part is the building with the mosaic in situ. Then there is the amphitheatre. The entrance ticket gets you into all of them. I'll definitely be returning.

Some parts of the museum were more interesting than others but when walking around, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of what could be for this museum. Most of the museum is unchanged from when I attended as a child, which surprised me. I was really hoping that the exhibitions would have been refreshed. Some areas are very dated. The colours are fading from signs and the information videos appear to be from the 90s, which haven’t aged well.

Went on a school trip. Well laid out, basement floor with lift access for toilets and Childrens pegs for bags. Shop at the front on the entrance. Discounts for residents and free access for carers. So many artefacts and the mosaics are breathtaking! Well worth a visit to see them. Staff are amazing, super friendly, attentive and asking if my autistic son needed any further support. Workshops for the school kids really entertaining, dress ups and guessing games. Walk across the park to see the stunning mosaic with free entry. Another short stroll from the museum is a playground and cafe! Closed on Sundays Time we spend at the museum (2 hours) 1 hour at the workshop and other hour looking around.

It is an amazing experience for immersing in Roman Britain because the museum is showing you aspects of every detail of everyday life in Verulamium, the ancient name of St. Albans. Do not miss the drawers under the showcases if you want to have a closer look to some artifacts.

Firstly, the girl at the desk charged me full price even though I said I was a resident, she said I didn’t apply to me even though my village and street is written about multiple times in the actual museum! I literally live on Watling street itself so unless you live around the museum car park itself, what else can be considered local? There is an abundance of artefacts and impressive, plaster work and carvings but it’s also quite a dated museum. The history however is fascinating.

So much more to see than I expected. The mosaics are incredible and the layout of the whole museum is very well thought out. Lots of thought given to making it interesting and accessible to children too. The car park got very busy because it's for the park as well so arrive early and use the toilets in the museum, not the public toilets for the park!

Fantastic museum, for its size and budget it is doing a stellar job. Huge number of well preserved artefacts and the mosaics are beautiful. The best preserved in Britain and I’ve seen a fair few! Well worth a visit!

This is a very interesting Museum but it’s very small. It had been years since I visited and was unaware. The mosaics and wall paintings are truly wonderful. Beautifully preserved and the gift shop has a wide variety of non-tacky items for sale. It would be good to combine this with a day out in St Albans. The staff were very friendly.

Some of the finest mosaics outside of, err... Rome. Amazingly well preserved large pieces with great detail, along with interesting context from the museum. Recommended!

Lovely museum with loads of local items. Some even from the local park! There is also a building in the park with a mosaic still in the ground. The other mosaic from there is up on the wall in the museum. Even some preserved walls are in there! The workers were really helpful and the morning talk was lovely.

We attended here for a school trip and it was surprisingly interesting. We learned about the origins of St Alban's and saw various Roman artifacts. We mainly stayed in the Museum area but there were various other sections to visit. There is also a playground for the kids to enjoy. My kid asked to go again, so I'll probably be returning with the other two as well.

This museum is most definitely worth a visit, especially after a relaxing walk through the park. At £6 per adult it’s a reasonable price for an hour of exploring so many Roman artefacts and understanding life back so long ago, plus you’ll be doing your bit to ensure places like this remain open for years to come.

We loved the exhibits and enjoyed our time there. It was good for our daughter who had been learning about it at school. There were quite a few school children who were on a school visit but their teachers controlled them well.

An interesting and well laid out local museum with paid-for parking directly outside. We came in the Spring holidays and although there were interactive displays set up manned by assistants for the children to engage with, getting the assistants to show what they had set up was hard work!

Very interesting museum! Small but well kept and put together. Information was very good. Must visit if you are in St Albans. The staff was friendly and museum has a small gift shop which is cute.

Interesting, small museum with a selection of displays about Roman Verulamium and everyday life in Roman Britain. I visited with a school group so am not sure of facilities for families but there were lots of toilets in a building outside, no seating for families that I could see but there is a café and play area in the park nearby.

Fascinating insight into the Roman world literally under our feet. Great for adults and children alike. Some amazing items on display. Definitely worth a visit. Also, the Roman theatre was really interesting.

  • 5/5 Charlotte 11 months ago on Google
I bought a joint ticket to also see the Roman theatre around the corner also so £9 each altogether. We had the museum practically to ourselves when we went on a Monday. Beautiful examples from the former house and village. The mosaics beautifully displayed and preserved.

Brilliant museum for Roman artefacts. As a metal detector myself, I thoroughly enjoyed the visit to this lovely museum.

I went with my daughter and 8 year old grandson as he's been studying the Romans at school. It is easy to find and parking is good. There are lots of very interesting exhibits from coins to mosaics and skeletons. It is very interactive and there is something interesting to do for children from 2- 92 (drawing, coin rubbing, try making a mosaic and many other things). It was half term so I suspect there was even more stuff than usual. There were only a couple of members of staff around but they very engaged and knowledgeable again with all age groups. Once you've looked around inside, it is worth visiting the Roman theatre and new excavations which are outside and just across the road. A very well thought out and interesting museum and tickets are a very affordable. The toilets outside were a bit basic and actually one was quite dirty, but that's more down to how customers behave than the museum. Well worth a visit. Plenty of places, benches etc outside to have a picnic too.

An extremely well displayed, interactive exhibition of Roman artifacts from every segment of the Roman period in England. The mosaic section is itself a national treasure.

10’ walking from the Cathedral, and very interesting. Don’t miss the theatre ruins, just across the road (£3 admission, plus £6 for the museum itself). Not English Heritage.

  • 5/5 Michael T. 1 year ago on Google
I only popped in to use the toilet, which was adequate. Car park was a shambles though, people fighting over spaces and glaring aggressively. Use the multi storey in town and walk. Your step counter that is. Closed Xmas day. The toilet that is. You wouldn't want to eat your Xmas dinner in a toilet. Museum's probably good too.

A good museum with some fabulous artefacts and mosaics. It was smaller than I imagined but crammed a lot in. The mosaics on display were very well preserved and many of the artefacts are either whole or nearly whole. There is a wealth of information presented next to the displays and lots of interactive activities for children. In alI I spent a little over an hour there and found it fascinating.

  • 3/5 Gemma F. 1 year ago on Google
It's a lot smaller than I remember, but there's lots to look at. There are things for the children to play with such as making a bridge and making a mosaic. Only spent less than an hour here. Staff where really helpful especially one lady who was more than happy to answer all my children's questions and really engaged with them. Gift shop is extreme expensive

I so much enjoyed this museum. It took nearly three hours to even roughly look around and read the descriptions with only big letters. It's worth the £6 entrance fee.

Very interesting museum especially for us locals. Lots of exhibits and videos. The grandchildren (5 & 7) liked it too.

Very interesting, lots of roman artifacts displayed, school kids were having a great time!

  • 5/5 Nyla F. 2 years ago on Google
A brilliant museum with some amazing Roman artefacts. There were some very informative cinematics that were about the rich history of the site. It's a great day out for the whole family. The gift shop has a variety of items and staff are helpful. I would definitely recommend a visit.

Lovely little museum. I've always found Roman history a little dull, but this place is just the right size and has just the right amount of aterisl on display to pique my interest, teach me something and then spit me out before I'm over-sated.

  • 5/5 Thomas B. 3 years ago on Google
Quite an interesting museum, covering the third largest town in Roman Britain. Information available for kids right through to adults more familiar with Roman history.

  • 5/5 Brendan L. 2 years ago on Google
Small but well focussed museum. Well presented exhibits but one is left feeling that only the merest tip of an iceberg is on display.

  • 5/5 Chezza G. 2 years ago on Google
Great museum, full of artifacts. Fantastic for children. Also here is the Mosaic house, Roman Wall and theatre. There is also a splash park and play park here and plenty of places for a picnic.
