Audley End House was just opening up for spring when we arrived. There were few visitors when we arrived just after midday and we toured the house first. The house itself is well set out with knowledge guides and information sheets in the main rooms. The nursery was particularly interactive for kids (the rest not so much). Some of the rooms were poorly lit, presumably for the preservation of the exhibits, stuffed animals & birds, tapestries etc. The ceilings are spectacular ... so don't forget to look up. The tea room has an odd layout and the queue was substantial at lunchtime. By 2pm they still had plenty left (the pasties were a favourite) and the staff were helpful. The dining area was tight, especially with prams & pushchairs. Highchairs are available but I could see several mums were not impressed by their cleanliness. The plates, bowls, cutlery etc. was all disposable but some metal forks/knives/spoons were available in the 'dresser' if you know where to look. The kitchen gardens are tidy but uninspiring as they are not growing anything yet, and we didn't have time to see the stables as they shut at 3:30. The shop was small but as they are changing the products lots were half price. They are clearly developing some additional spaces, a shop and seating in the courtyard area.

It was so quick and easy to get to this place and park, but I would recommend getting a membership as it makes it even easier. The house and gardens were wonderful, I took loads of pictures because I found it so fantastic. I would definitely recommend visiting this place. Absolutely stunning house with tons of history and entertainment for any children you might bring with you. They have a few different interactions within the house for children to take part in, staff dressed as the characters that would have lived there around the house, dressing up areas in the children’s bedrooms and play areas inside along with puzzles to play with. So overall Audley End would be a great place to take the whole family as it provides entertainment for the children and history sites for the adults. There is also a play area in the gardens further away from the house for the children to play in, with a cafe. Absolutely amazing place to visit. I would totally recommend it for a nice day out! 😋

Peaceful and relaxing gardens with historical interest. Worth a visit if you're a member of English heritage. Many different places, walled garden, historic house, seasonal garden displays. Two cafes and a small kids playground. Quite a few picnic tables. The river cam provides a beautiful backdrop.

Audley End House is a true gem in the UK! This historic mansion and its stunning gardens offer a delightful journey through time. The grand architecture, well-preserved interiors, and picturesque surroundings make it a perfect destination for history and architecture enthusiasts. The knowledgeable staff and engaging tours enhance the experience, making it a must-visit attraction.

Great park and house. Made for a lovely weekend. Nice to explore and relax in the gardens. Restaurant should have been better staffed so a full menu could be available. The Cornish Pasties and sausage rolls were good, but I would have preferred a few choices.

Driving in to Audley End feels like you're entering a scene from Downton abbey, it's just stunning. We loved our visit and knew we were entering somewhere pretty special. You will need around 3-4 hours to visit if you want to just wander through the house and extensive gardens. We wished we had taken a picnic though as the grounds are stunning and there is ample space to set down a blanket and enjoy the environment. There is a cafe where you can buy lunch, cakes, drinks etc. We missed the shows and demonstrations they offer due to lack of planning on our part, it was a last minute decision to visit. I would recommend looking online to see what is going on before you go. The curators have explained everything perfectly, you get a real sense of the story and what it was like to live in the house. There is a lot to see, the visitors were multi generational and of mixed abilities, there are steps and there is a lot of walking but there are also plenty of places to rest, I think if you take it easy most of the house could be enjoyed by all. I didn't see any lifts inside but there may have been. No photography is allowed in the main house unfortunately but the do have a guide book to buy if you would like to show friends and family what it's like inside. We didn't get a chance to do the miniature steam railway which is just opposite the main entrance, they do say always leave something to go back for though and that is good reason to return. My advice, make this a full day visit, there is ample to do for people aged 2-102

English heritage site, stately home, gardens, cafe and playground. We had a fantastic time walking around and taking in the history. There's just enough going on to keep you entertained for a few hours, followed by a few hours just sitting on the grass under one of the lovely trees... just relaxing.

I love it here, such a beautiful place. As you would expect from an English Heritage property it is very well presented. The grounds are vast and that makes it very easy to spend many hours here just enjoying the outside as well as the inside. Depending on the day you go there are activities and demonstrations that you can watch and be part of....really interesting and educational. If you have children there's a lovely play area as well as lots of space to run around The food in the cafe was excellent with seating inside and out A fab place to spend the day

Beautiful walk around the gardens and house. Unfortunately the day I visited it was very hot, so didn't get to see the horses as they needed to be kept safe from the heat. Stopped for tea and cake at the tearoom. Would definitely recommend a visit here

The entry price is rather high. It is cheaper if you book in advance online. So book on line, and spend the whole day there to get your money's worth. Having said that, the house and grounds are immaculately kept, and the staff are all very knowledgeable and friendly. Lots to see inside and out. Photos not allowed inside.

Wow! This place is incredible. The house is huge with lots of history and beautiful/different things to look at. You get to see the children's nursery, the dairy, the servants area, the laundry, the meat store and much more. The grounds are extensive with lots of lovely places to sit. You get to see the stables, an organic vegetable garden and the most beautiful set of ponds and a river with waterfalls. Both adults and children thoroughly enjoyed our day out.

We love popping to Audley End for the day - been a few times over the years. Can get a bit busy trying to get in when the weather is nice (as well as being on the same road as the entrance to the miniature railway). Grounds and house are very nice, although you can't take pictures in the house as its privately owned. Plenty to look around / wander around, and the kids love the playpark. Not a particularly cheap English Heritage venue to get in to - in fact a visit here makes the membership option quite attractive...!

A simply stunning place. Could spend hours here just walking, exploring and enjoying the surroundings. Facilities were great. Toilets were clean and the cafe was lovely. Great place for the family, couples or just to get some peace and quiet. Dogs on a lead are welcomed which is ideal. Well worth joining the EH just for this place.

Beautiful gardens - clearly, there is a great deal of time and effort spent on keeping them is such good condition. We particularly liked the kitchen gardens and the glasshouses. There was an enormous number of bunches of (as yet, green) grapes growing in one of the glasshouses. The house itself is quite spectacular, and there are plenty of rooms to view. Unfortunately, there seemed to be scant information available in the rooms to give the background and context to the artefacts. The room guides were very knowledgeable, but you don't always want to be asking question after question. The coal gallery on the top floor, where coal was stored in bunkers and water was heated, is very unusual. All photography is forbidden inside the house. We enjoyed the tea and cake, but at over £12 for the two of us, we felt it was on the expensive side. With a £20.90 entry ticket (for non-members), it's also quite expensive when compared to other stately houses open to the public.

An amazing and enjoyable day out. The house it was one of the best I have seen so far with the wood paneling & decorative ceilings. Learning about their daily life through the house it was a bonus, as the kitchens, dairy, laundry room & nursery is as it was back then. The gardens were immaculate & we have enjoyed our day there, finishing with an afternoon tea.

This was our Sunday afternoon sorted! Plenty to see plenty of history and above all very child friendly, activities within the house for children areas for you to just sit and take in the history and even on this visit one of the staff members was playing the piano which was very pleasant, two lady servants in the kitchen areas was very in character telling us what they was up to for who and then whT they will do when they clock of from the working quarters (loved it). The tea rooms was reasonably priced and a nice amount on offer for lunch and snacks. Children's play area was good and toilets at hand in multiple places. Plenty of pick nick areas and space. Well worth the 2 hour drive. Will 100% be visiting again.

Beautiful house with stunning gardens and views. Easy to get to, however finding the car park was not the easiest. It’s a lot farther on than expected then there is only a small sign that appears out of nowhere. Once parked, it is a short walk down to the house, there is an entrance fee unless like us you are English Heritage members then it’s free. No photography is allowed inside the house, which I was disappointed about. Only certain rooms are open depending on how many staff are onsite. Gardens were stunning, lots to see and very well maintained, There is an on site cafe and shop, plus nice clean toilets. Aa it was a nice day, we took a picnic and sat in the grounds, there are benches dotted around to sit and eat. Pleasant day out

Beautiful place ideal for an outdoor day. Possible picnicking. The palace is very interesting and all the nearest attractions especially the kitchen garden and the horse yard. A playground for children and of course a little lake and a river. Food at the restaurant essential but a good selection. Do not miss the bridges and a visit to the top of the hill.

Audley End House was remarkable. Went for the Apple festival, which was very disappointing, but the gardens were beautiful, the shop and cafe were really nice and the house...WOW! Sadly, you cannot take pictures inside the house as it's still privately owned, but English Heritage "runs" it I guess. Still, the self guided tour to see all the rooms was too cool. I've never seen so many stuffed birds. They did have a falconry show at time which was pretty cool. Overall, it was pretty good.

This is an amazing property & grounds managed by English Heritage. We visited here on 22nd September 2021 whilst on holiday in the Norfolk area. Inside the house each room is filled with furniture, paintings & the most amazingly decorated ceilings we have ever seen, the only disappointment was you’re not allowed to photograph inside the house. This property is rich in history & stories of the people who lived & worked here. The grounds & gardens are extensive with a wide variety of plants. A cafe with a good selection of tea, coffee & food is available, also toilet facilities are provided. Brilliant place, would highly recommend here for an excellent day out.

A thoroughly lovely house, and a great day out for the family. The interactive nursery was a huge bonus for the kids. Was amazed to see the Holbein painting of Prince Edward Tudor - had no idea it was there!

Great house of English heritage. Well worth visiting. On site parking free for member. Very nice collection of the paintings within the house. Shame that you can’t take pictures expert the Nursery on the top floor. Drinks and food are nice in the cafe. Play park is always good for Children to have a play. There are really nice Gardens and ground for a walk. There is Wizards of Once quest when we visited. Kids had fun doing that.

Grand house finished in the Jacobean style with gardens, Italianate influences. Points of interest are the ceiling plasterwork and carved wood panels. Landscaped garden by Capability Brown with walled garden with greenhouses. Original Tudor stable with horse tack display. But, very expensive to enter. When we went there was a temporary carpark that wasn't well signposted with the entrance immediately after a sharp bend so we had to brake sharply when we saw the sign. Conversely leaving you couldn't see around the corner so it was a case of floor the accelerator and cross your fingers! No photography indoors allowed, even without flash. Not much information about the people who lived there, you can read about the children going to the Crimean war but nothing about anyone else. A house, even one as grand as this, is only a collection of bricks/stone workout knowing about who lived in it. Polish War Memorial (Urn, pictured) not well indicated, and again little information. I got most of my background history via Google, for the admission price I would have expected a small booklet at minimum. As usual, the staff were knowledgeable and approachable so well done them.

Beautifull house! The nursery is lovely, amazing wallpaper. The others rooms are very nice to look at. Victorian kitchen where they film - The Victorian Way - from YouTube. On the grounds are the most beautiful old big trees. You can spend hours there.

Beautiful well kept. Last entry to the house In the winter months is 13:30pm. Friendly staff, but feel like your being watched and followed round (made me feel on edge a little bit - expecially because I had young children). No photography allowed inside the main house as The English Heritage don't own everything inside (some items belong to the family still). Beautiful grounds and lovely cafe on site. The kids loved the play area too. Parking is on a field, so if its a wet day I wouldn't recommend visiting (Skid marks on the grass where cars have got stuck).

Ample parking, tea room, shop and toilets available. The house is interesting and staffed by knowledgeable people. The grounds are spectacular and well worth the visit on their own. A full day will be needed to see everything properly.

An interesting place and something different from the normal English Heritage property. The last entry to the hall is 15:00, inside you will find an amazing entrance hall. You are free to wonder round with information boards in each room and a volunteer on hand. There is no photography allowed in the hall, but you can get a guidebook with pictures in. The gardens are well kept with plenty of benches. Cafe, gift shop and toilets.

It is a lovely setting with exstensive walks and wonderful walled gardens. The house is very dark and has lots of taxidermy. The upper floor coal store and nurseries were the best parts for me as lots of interest and history.

We went to 2 days of concerts, firstly the sugababes then razorlight and both were amazing. Great location plenty of amenities. Being kept very clean throughout the day by friendly staff. Parking kept well by staff. Plenty of bars and staff so not much queues. Rented deck chairs at a good price. The only thing I was a bit annoyed at was it said strictly no umbrella but loads of people had them. So if you have rules please make them adhered to. Otherwise great

Very beautiful place pity can't take pictures inside the house only one part upstairs in the nursery and only the kitchen and laundry place's, but the house and land is beautiful, I had a good day . There was a Victorian horses show on. Worth the day out with family. August 28th Monday 2023

Went to Audley End House for a Heritage live concert. (Heaven 17, OMD & Soft Cell). Well what an i say . It was a fantastic . The stately home made a beautiful back drop. Brilliant food from the vendors . Did pay extra to go in the VIP area. Worth paying just for the descent toilets. Truly an amazing time. Lots of singing and dancing.

It's interesting place for a family visit where you can easily spend a full day. Even on a rainy day, there is the building to be visited, with the very interesting service buildings. And there are also some special activities scheduled. Guided visits with period dressed people, would have certainly raised the experience. The building itself will need considerable effort and resources to be available for the future.

Great day out!! Lovely scenery with so much history. Ideal place for fun day out with family. Tips: - Take your own food, the food there is guide expensive like £4.85 for a Tuna sandwich! - £22 per adult entry fee! Ideal if you buy annual membership which is like £66 approx for the whole year and includes 400 sites all across England

Such a beautiful house and grounds. There is plenty to do to make it a really nice full day out. The kids play area was small but still really fun for the kids, broke up the day nicely having a small play. There is a few cafes so plenty of places to get refreshments and also plenty of picnic benches around the grounds. Really enjoyed the history, the staff were all so knowledgeable and could answer all the questions.

We stopped here to stretch our legs and get some fresh air after some local deliveries for the gallery. The grounds are beautiful and very well kept and the house is very impressive! We could only stay a very short time but will be back another day as there is so much to see! The cafe was great too and we enjoyed an excellent hot Cornish pasty and a cup of tea! Perfect for a bright, fresh autumn day!

As part of the English Heritage, audley end house has one of the best preserved collection of British history. You can really feel how life was back in the day. The house has multiple rooms including a chapel that you can find inside the building. Outside there's beautiful gardens, a kids play area, a lake, the river full of animals and much more!. It is worth the visit.

Beautiful house and gardens. Was covered in light snow when we went. Gardens looked wonderful in the frosty weather. House is maintained very well. Gives one a glimpse into the lifestyle of the aristocracy in the 16th century. A good collection of paintings and books all maintained well. Garden is very vast and well maintained. A nice place to spend the day in summer.

The best english heritage I've ever been to. Beautifully revived historic manor house will definitely enchant the visitors. Foods are nice, gift shops are beautiful, 2-3 horses you can admire… It's so easy to spend a perfect autumn day with your loved one here.

Christmas present of English Heritage membership prompted a Bank Holiday visit to this stunning location. We spent a few hours exploring the extensive grounds, the clever Parterre garden and the equally impressive organic garden. Capability Brown's influence on the grounds to the front of the house are so well demonstrated here too. After a welcome coffee in the (happily reasonably priced) cafe we went into the house. Be prepared, the art collection here is impressive! The craftsmanship in the rooms is so amazing and there are some surprising displays. (Don't want to give too much away!) For me, the restoration in the nursery area was the best part of the trip - hey, but each to their own ;-) Well worth a visit even if you don't have membership. Picnic opportunities abound, peaceful areas aplenty and just something for everyone.

Beautiful house containing some amazing pieces. Love that some of the staff around the grounds are in costume and in character. The grounds are vast and beautiful. Horses in the stables are gorgeous and of great temperament. Cafe and toilet facilities are of good high standard. Lovely little play area just before heading back to the carpark for the kids to let go of that last bit of steam and for you to relax with a coffee.

A very fine Jacobian house set in beautiful parklands. I came here by train and walked from Audley End station on a warm late Summer day. The house and gardens were fairly quiet, so Covid distancing was easy. The gardens are well managed and spacious. The parterre is particularly photogenic and the stone face building glowed in the afternoon light. I spent three happy hours here, which included the interior of the house and the walled garden.

It is a beautiful place to visit. The grounds, gardens and stable block are elegant and lovely reflecting a slower simpler age. The house is beautiful and not a large as other great country houses. A very lovely visit.

Lovely grounds and beautiful decor. Large house and out buildings (make sure you don't miss these or the kitchen). Good interpretation in the outbuildings such as the laundry, with stories projected onto walls and a chance to see pullies and scale of laundries, dairies and kitchens. Stables looked interesting from outside but you could not enter. Cafe inside or you can sit outside (shade or sun) as well as using the picnic tables and going for a walk. Gardens are by Capability Brown so stunning. You are not permitted to take pictures in the house, until the top floor (coal gallery and nurseries), which was disappointing. The nursery rooms include a brief video history of the nurseries and the children who used them, and is worth sitting through. I have not given this a higher rating as the entrance fee was quite high and the inability to take photos, even of the actual rooms and internal features (as the collection was private) meant people were often disappointed. It is a lovely building, with lots to see, but for me I have seen better for less money. The car park is free, but a short walk to the house, which did not open until 10.30 a.m.

The Christmas light show was well worth the visit . Plenty of parking available and there were laid out paths to walk on. So no need to worry about getting muddy feet . The grounds are lovely The only down side to the whole experience was the food a the end of the walk If I was being kind I would rate the quality of the hot dogs as very very poor For £7.50 you would at lest expect the food to be hot and the bread fresh SO AVOID AT ALL COSTS
