One of the most moving places that I have ever been. We visited on a damp Sunday afternoon when there were very few people there; it was amazingly peaceful, beautiful and a fitting memorial to those killed whilst serving in the RAF. Laid out chronologically and alphabetically, I was able to find my uncle's name easily. Just as we were leaving, the Red Arrows did a fly past, with smoke on. Amazing.

A very peaceful and poignant place - this is definitely worth a visit. The lists of thousands of names from all over the commonwealth really makes you think... The memorial is a lovely cloistered building with a tower (currently closed for lockdown). Even without the tower, the views are spectacular. If you are at the National Trust car park at Runnymede, you can make a nice circular walk up the hill to visit the memorial..

A place to contemplate the sacrifice made by our Armed Forces not only in both World Wars, but since then and before. Also the injured not only physical but mentally scared as well. And we mustn't forget those who support the injured both with physical and mental and emotional problems.

A quiet peaceful place to reflect on those in the RAF from all commonwealth countries who died during WW2. We walked up from Runnymede pleasure gardens so was a nice walk up Cooper's hill. But great views up there, can clearly see planes landing at Heathrow a distance away.

Beautiful and tranquil spot. One of the best views in the South East in my opinion. A fitting tribute to all who served.

This place is away from the hustle and bustle of the tourists in Windsor, peaceful and quiet, a time to reflect on those that lost their lives are remembered in these beautiful surroundings. Also offers a spectacular view from the top of the tower (when open). View is superb especially on a clear summers day.

Very evocative memorial, simple and enduring. The memorial is dedicated to airman lost between 1939 and 1945. There are walks in the area and the location Magna Carta memorial and JFK memorial. Be aware the area can be quite muddy if it’s wet! There is good access for all visitors but the walks might be more challenging for some.

The offsite car park is just a short walk from the Memorial, the grounds of which are very well kept. It was good to see the names of the thousands of airforce personell of all grades from GB and the Commonwealthwho were killed in action engraved in stone memorials. Well worth a visit in the hills above Runneymede.

What a fantastic tribute to the Air Force. The Air Forces Memorial at Runnymede commemorates by name over 20,000 men and women of the air forces, who were lost in the Second World War during operations from bases in the United Kingdom and North and Western Europe, and who have no known graves. They served in Bomber, Fighter, Coastal, Transport, Flying Training and Maintenance Commands, and came from all parts of the Commonwealth. Some were from countries in continental Europe which had been overrun but whose airmen continued to fight in the ranks of the Royal Air Force. The memorial was designed by Sir Edward Maufe with sculpture by Vernon Hill. The engraved glass and painted ceilings were designed by John Hutton and the poem engraved on the gallery window was written by Paul H Scott. The Memorial was unveiled by The Queen on 17 October 1953. Total identified casualties 20275 from the second world war. Free parking around the area. There are other places of interest. Writ in Water. Cooper's Hill. Magna Carter. JFK memorial and other places of interest in the area making it a 4 hour day trip.

A beautiful memorial dedicated to all the UK and commonwealth airforce personnel who lost their lives in the 2nd world war and have no known grave. They include 1 Victoria Cross and 5 George cross recipients, including section officer Noor Inayat-Khan who served with the SOE in occupied France as a radio operator. She was captured and tortured by the Gestapo and eventually executed in Dachau concentration camp, aged 30. Over 20000 men and woman are remembered here. A beautiful, evocative memorial beautifully maintained as ever by the Commonwealth war graves commission.

A lovely memorial located close to Runnymede. I recommend a visit if you're in the local area. It pays tribute to thousands of lost men and women that helped win the war. It's very peaceful and calm. There are also some of the best views of Windsor and London (from a distance). Don't forget to also go up the tower to get an even better view.

Fantastic views from the top. They have reopened the stairs. You'll be able to see Heathrow airport and Windsor Castle with your naked eyes.

We parked at the Runnymede carpark on the main road from Windsor and cut across the fields following the footpath up into the woods. After a pleasant walk up through the woods at Coopers Hill we arrived at the Air Forces Memorial. It was a beautiful building in white stone, a truly fitting memorial to all those lost men and (a few) women who served in the Air Force, from all around the Commonwealth, including Canada, Australia and India. Around a covered colonnade which enclosed a central square the walls were covered with the carved names of over 20,000 Air Force Personnel who were lost in action and did not have a permanent resting place. So sad and sombre seeing all those names. Even more poignant were the photos of the lost loved ones from all those years ago and messages and tokens from visiting families. The memorial really brought it home to us the sheer scale of those unfound numbers of young men and women. Not just numbers but real people with names and bereaved families. A very sobering visit. The centre of the memorial overlooked the surrounding countryside from its great vantagepoint and a couple of flights of stairs up to the top of the memorial and to really splendid views of the nearby areas, including over to Windsor Castle, towards Heathrow Airport and towards the taller buildings of London. A really interesting, if a little poignant, visit. Such a memorial will hopefully bring comfort to those visiting from afar to see the names of their long missing forebears carved in stone on a beautiful National Memorial.

The Air force memorial at Runnymede where engraved on the walls are the 20,000 people who lost there lives during the second World War. This is well worth a visit, if you use the spiral staircase and work you way to the top, the views are breathtaking

Very calming experience, a lovely memorial for the 20,000 without a known grave. The grounds have been immaculately kept and maintained. When you climb up the stairs to the top you'll get great views of Windsor Castle and over to the city.

Peaceful; a fitting memorial to all those who perished so life would improve for those left to live. Easy enough to find, and a 220 yard, flat walk from a free car park

  • 5/5 Mark J. 10 months ago on Google
A tribute to fallen Air Force personnel in beautiful surroundings.

  • 5/5 Trevor J. 10 months ago on Google
The car park is on the right as you approach, then walk 200 yard to the entrance. You will then see how well kept the grass and flower beds are. If you can manage the spiral staircase to the top, you will see Windsor Castle, Runnymede, and right across to Central London. There is no catering on site, and the toilets are near the car park.

Beautiful and tranquil setting. Has a personal connection for me as my Uncle was a pilot in Bomber Command and I am named after his best friend also a pilot who did not come back after a raid

A really beautiful and fitting memorial. The architecture of the building and it's thoughtful location, so close to the Magna Carta memorial and overlooking the airport adds so much to the feel of the place. We were moved by all the photographs and messages left for loved ones. A strange thing to say, but well worth a visit even if you have no affiliation to the RAF.

Calm and solemn place to remember thousands of people that died helping win the war. The upstairs part is closed currently.

  • 5/5 Joanna L. 5 years ago on Google
Beautiful, very photogenic spot filled with solemn silence. A real gem, worth visiting. Many benches to sit on. Amazing view from the tower. The tower may be closed during a wet weather for safety reasons. The stairs that lead to the tower are spiral; the climb may be exhausting for elderly or people with specific medical conditions. This is a place commemorating airmen who fought and died during the World War II. It records the names of twenty thousand airmen who have no known grave. Take into consideration there are no toilets.
