Wander down the candlelit alleyway’s stairs for the experience of a lifetime! You can enjoy a mead, live music and authentic meal as if you were a Viking. We came on a winter weeknight, but it’s probably delightfully rowdy on the weekends during summer. The mussels were perfectly cooked in cream sauce with crusty bread and they were so filling, I almost couldn’t eat all of my impeccably smoked salmon. The live music inspired the soundtrack of the rest of our travels through Scandinavia. Aifur is definitely the highlight of our trip to Stockholm! Pro Tip: - Check their hours as they are closed on some days - If you don’t drink, order a non-alcoholic mead to enjoy from an earthenware clay jug!

Walked past this cool Viking themed bar and decided to go in. My husband and I didn't have reservations so we weren't able to eat but we found seats at the bar area and were able to hang out and grab a drink. It was definitely packed with people but had a fun energy. It felt lively and entertaining. I definitely suggest making reservations if you want to eat. It looks like they typically book out pretty far.

Had a really fun time. The live music was fantastic. The food was delicious. The mead selection was fantastic. I think the chili one was extra delicious. Their beers are also brilliant. The lamb was great, and the pike was beautiful.

One of the best restaurants I’ve been to in Stockholm. The atmosphere was really authentic, and really reflected the Viking culture of Sweden. The staffs were super super friendly helpful. The foods were good with the price. I love the Aifur beer. Definitely will come back in the future.

Would I recommend this place? It depends of what you value in a good restaurant. It is on a pricey side of things so bearing that in mind the service wasn’t what I expected. We had to wait outside in the cold for 25 minutes even though we had a reservation. So did everyone else in the queue. No one came to check on us. When I told the waiter about it he suggested that I jump the queue. There was nobody managing the reservations. I think that the restaurant is understaffed. They poured my drink half way and then run off somewhere else. My friend waited for her beer for 15 min. The starters arrived together with the main dish. The food was good but nothing so special for the price. The music was nice. It’s an interesting experience but I wouldn’t really recommend it. My advice to the management is to hire more staff on the weekend.

I 100000% recommend every one to try this place. They prefer that you make a reservation first, but if you don't they will do their best like they did for me! (They are the most booked place in Sweden, from what i heard) The atmosphere, the food, the chanting and music are worth it all. If you are coming to Sweden, this is a delight - even more so if you enjoy Viking/Nordic stories and culture. The staff is incredible, fun, and the waitress I had was very kindhearted. You can't go wrong with a place like this.

Dinner here felt chaotic but in a fun way. There is a lot going on so the restaurant is loud and energetic. The live music is great and the host announcing each patron makes it even more lively. The tables are communal so you’ll be eating alongside other patrons. The food is delicious and well prepared. Be sure to make a reservation online if you’d like to eat here! And be prepared for a warm experience if you’re visiting on a hot day.

This restaurant is the craziest experience ever! You really feel like you are entering in another dimension and get transported to the Vikings time. The staff is so nice and welcoming, we were given several meads to try before choosing the one we wanted to have. All the food was well prepared and tasty. I definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a cool experience in Stockholm

Best food we had in Stockholm. Definitely recommend this place. So much fun and a great experience. Everything in this place is on theme, so much detail put into it. Atmosphere was great. Everyone in restaurant seemed to be having a great time

Loved this place. Only had drinks due to our budget. Visited from UK. Atmosphere was incredible. Live viking Music in background. All lit by candlelight. The honey mead was actually delicious

What an incredible place! I'd highly recommend booking in advance, this place fills out quick! The food is delicious and the atmosphere is the best we've ever seen. You sit beside random people and then a horn is blown for each person who enters announcing their name. The mead is delicious also. Highly recommended!

It was a true viking experience, from the costumes all the way through the decoration and music. The food is great, altough the portions aren't as big as I expected, after all, you'd think that a viking would eat very much, but it was fine, and it was good proportioned so that you "won't suffer" after you eat. I would come the next time I'll come to Stockholm, and I will also make a reservation, because it gets crowded really fast and you can't stay long if you don't have a reservation, because everything is booked, and you cant make a reservation the day you want to come here because again, everything is booked, so if you want to be relaxed, make a reservation several days ahead, but if you don't have the time, try to arrive right when they open, and maybe you'll catch some seats.

If you're in Stockholm and looking for a really fantastic experience, Aifur is the place to be. The moment you step in, you're transported to a bygone era—in true Viking style! The setting is fantastic, super realistic, right down to the smallest details. The music, the waiters, the decor—everything is themed to perfection. The energy in the room is electrifying, and that's partly thanks to the "presenter" who announces each guest in a grand, welcoming fashion. It's a great experience that adds to the whole atmosphere. The bard also does a stellar job, getting everyone in the Viking spirit with some lively tunes. Now, let's talk food and drink. You come for the Viking experience, but you stay for the iconic food and MEAD! While the food is quite ok, it's the mead that steals the show—definitely tasty and worth a try. And don't worry about burning a hole in your wallet; the prices are not too high. A tip: this place fills out quick, so I'd highly recommend booking in advance to secure a spot. Loud but well-intentioned, this restaurant gives you the Viking experience you come for and doesn't disappoint.

If you don't visit this bar, you won't experience the atmosphere of the Viking Age! The unique atmosphere, the interesting introduction of each guest in the bar to other guests, it was very pleasant for me to sit with people from all over the world, all religions and nationalities. The staff is dressed in accordance with the Viking era, beautiful girls, attentive waiters, I was transported back in time and was delighted. Look carefully as the guests sit down at the table in the center, and be sure to turn on the camera. At the end of the menu there is a short excursion into the history of the dishes, be sure to check it out. I give it 5 stars, I will definitely return there! P.S. Don't look for potatoes on the menu, why? Ask the waiter 😅😉

I had been here in 2016 and it was such a wonderful memory. I returned again but this time it was totally different experience and I told myself never again. I went there at 5pm. right after restaurant was open and the vibe was not so cool. There was no smiles from staff. A friend and I were escorted to share table with the others and even though we sat in front of each table mat, the waitress told us to move closer to strangers to maximize the space. When we asked or wanted to order, waitresses appeared annoyed and disturbed. I ordered venison and asked for medium-rare and was told that I could not choose as the meat had been precooked in a huge portion. I thought I might order the wrong dish so I showed her the photo of medium rare venison I got last time. She said it was more or less the same. When food was served, it was totally different. The whole experience this time was close to disaster. I felt like I was having meal at hostel canteen.

Highly recommend this place! Be ready to be publicly introduced and sit with strangers! Great way to break the ice and get to know the whole table. Great drinks and food! Everything I ordered was great! My wife had the flank steak and I had the reindeer steak, the lamb and the board with reindeer heart. Great music and ambiance. Walking distance to various hotels and modes of public transportation. Really a highlight of our stay there.

The real Viking experience! Be ready to be publicly introduced and to sit with strangers, this is what will most likely happen here. And to break the ice is great. We had a very pleasant conversation with a Swedish couple sitting next to us. The food was great and the service was quick and friendly. As for the price, expect to pay a bit more than usual, but you pay for the experience here. Overall, a great experience.

Wonderful experience! Starting with interior design, everything is on the spot in this restaurant: cutlery, tableware, mead glasses, beer clay mugs, long tables, light from candles, accessories, music and many more. I fell in love with this place. Even the staff is kind of friendly-nonchalant (but helpful and pro!), so you feel like in the Viking tavern! Not many options for vegetarians though, but I ordered mushroom risotto and it was delicious. The portion was super big. BIG. Prices are maybe not the lowest in the city, but you pay for the whole experience, not just for the food, which was obvious to me. My friend ordered Lans aux Meadow’s mead and cream boiled mussels as a main course (bigger option than a starter) and firstly it was huge, secondly, she said they were the best mussels she ever had… PS. Make a reservation some time in advance :) Perfect restaurant to invite people visiting from other countries.

Another must do in Stockholm. The food, the drinks, and the atmosphere give Aifur a 5 out of 5. They announce your names/country of origin when you enter the dining hall. They have live music during the dinner, which isn't too loud and you can still carry on conversations. Be sure to make reservations prior to arriving, it fills up fast

A cool Viking themed restaurant and bar. They announce everyone that arrives for dinner. The food and mead was awesome. The guests and staff all had a great time. Good music, clapping, and table banging.

Excellent experience for tourists in Stockholm! Warm welcome by the staff and although it was quite busy we got served quite quickly. The portions are not viking-sized but the dishes were delicious and the meat was cooked to perfection (rosy lamb and medium rare steak). The mead was a bit too sweet but their beer on tap was really nice. The desserts were really good too! It was a bit difficult to eat with the viking cutlery, but it didn't stop us from cleaning the plates!

Boisterous atmosphere - lively with music (very good) and cozy seating at large communal tables. The food was average. Fish under seasoned and venison over cooked. Beer was solid and mugs were cool. It was more my husband’s place than mine. They call out everyone’s name and home base when they seat you. Interesting to hear where everyone is from, but gets a tad annoying by end of dinner. We were seated next to family with young kids that were really enjoying it. But didn’t get to experience meeting new people in the communal setting. Fun for large groups, families, but not a place I’d go back to.

VIKING BAR!!! This is hands down one of best experiences of Stockholm city. Located in the city center there’s this cozy places that serves foods and drinks in Viking style. People are publicly announced to their tables, beer is served in handmade pottery cups and food is to be eaten with viking cutlery. Atmosphere and people were great. Live music is performed every once in a while and there are fun games in between courses

Everything I wanted, the waitress definitely helped sell the alcohol we brought a bottle each of mead and it was a brilliant experience. Loved the food, music and voice entry. Not the easiest place to find small windy streets, cost wise reasonable food and bottles wine was £85 pp

It's a scam! We went there after finding the very good reviews on google. In order to maintain a place like this in a perfect condition you need to have an efficient way of cleaning!!! The hygienic conditions are below average. The place they keep the coats is very gross with stamps all over. The glass was stuck from the honey and the small rugs on the seats were extremely dirty and most likely never cleaned. As cherry on the top, people were passing to the seats from the inside side of the table by walking up in the table. It was a day full of mud and rain outside and literally this was gross!!!! Additionally the food was below basic and definitely not worth of the money. For risotto, they offered a kids' rice with 5 small mushrooms. The only positive thing was the very pleasant waitress who was in great mood.

Absolutely amazing Viking themed restaurant and immersive atmosphere! We booked in advance due to a personal recommendation and highly recommend everyone else to do the same. The entire staff was lovely and funny, playing into their roles as well as providing excellent service. Extremely happy with the food and mead selection, also love the community table style seating.

Amazing place, as you pass the door you find yourself in the Middle Ages! The viking atmosphere, the delicious food and the waiters dressed up as real vikings make everything magical. I loved it and I'll keep this special memories forever, you should definitely come here!

A place to try viking food. Good food, great service. But above all, the experience like no other places that of you have a chance to be in Stockholm, you should pay a visit. Your group will be introduced loudly to other guests when walk in. Very crowded, should book in advance.

I tried two different beers and both were served on an old fashioned clay jug. I may say that it's a must be for visitors in Sweden. I didn't had the chance to try the food, but the experience is unbelievable. Ambient is definitely how you can imagine a viking pub. Once you get in there you will be introduced to the rest of the diners by your name, and you will be received by claps, really fun.

We booked a table online only to get a phone call from the restaurant that it was the old booking service and he couldn't offer us the time we had booked for. He was able to give us a reservation for 2 hours later though, so we were glad we still got a reservation, although it was still a little frustrating. The ambiance is great and we loved the live music. Sadly there is only one vegetarian starter, a salad with goat cheese, and main course, a mushroom rissoto. It was very underwhelming and plain. Vegetables or cheese or something could have been served as a side. What we didn't like: it took 20 minutes after being seated for someone to come to take our drink order. We watched 2 other servers set up tables in the meantime and another (what would be our server) serve a different table next to us at least 3 times. He wasn't very cheerful and the jokes he made came across as inauthentic and forced seeming like he does them for every table, every day. The food arrived within 10 minutes of ordering which on the one hand is good but on the other hand you felt rushed to hurry up, eat and leave quickly to make room for new people. They then tell you to go to their sister bar down the street for drinks, instead of getting to stay there after you have eaten to enjoy drinks there, again making you feel rushed and unwanted. All of this sort of ruined the whole mood of the dinner along with our high hopes for the restaurant.

Nice viking atmosphere in the hearth of the old city. We shared a bottle of local dry mead and 4 beers, 3 meat dishes and one fish. The deer was really tasty, unfortunately the perch was not that good. The staff was really kind and respectful of the new restrictions against covid-19. Slightly overpriced (ca. 500 kr/person) but in line with other restaurants in Gamla Stan. Worth to try once if you are in Stockholm.

We ended up our trip to Stockholm with this restaurant. If you like to get the full viking-like experience in addition to original meat (example: reindeer heart) you will definitely like the place. Anyway like any other touristic place, it is very often full so think to book long time in advance to save your "normal dinner time" if you don't want to end up like us eating our lunch at 4 pm because the rest was fully booked :)

The only reason of not been a five stars is that the staff was too rushy and poured drinks that we haven’t asked for. Besides that, fantastic place, Tavern environment with incredible food, even so the staff was rushy they let us try the mead before take it, which was very good by the way!

Experience of a lifetime.

First of all do yourself a favor and reserve a table well in advance this place books up very quickly. I thankfully stumbled in and found a seat at the bar early. The staff are just as amazing as the atmosphere. Diana was well versed in all the meads and helped me pick out delicious ones. The menu has some delicious things on it as well. Can’t say enough good things about this place, definitely was well worth the time.

  • 5/5 Alex G. 1 year ago on Google
This was an amazing place. The staff was friendly and the atmosphere was comfortable. Food was great and was served quickly. While it seemed a little dark at the entrance, the low lighting gave the feel of a Viking longhouse and feasting hall. The mead selection was outstanding and paired well with the meal. The price of the meal can get a tad pricey if you’re buying by the bottle but not overly priced. I wholeheartedly recommend this for a great and entertaining meal.

Great atmosphere, but it took as over an hour to get our food becouse there was a mistake in the order, the waitress didn't try to smooth things over, didn't apologize right up to the end when we got the bill. It was way to late by then, the experience was ruined for me, they did take the drinks off, and the waitress offered dessert ( didn't take the offer, honestly by that point just wanted to leave) so there is that. The food is just ok.

Great themed restaraunt spot. Service was awkward and odd, but the entertainment and hostess was excellent.

Really fantastic experience, in true Viking style, the setting is fantastic, super realistic, the music, the waiters, everything themed. Really incredible! The food is good, and the prices are not too high. The only note I make is that despite having booked I had to wait 15 minutes in line to get a table, but otherwise it was really a unique experience, I recommend it to everyone!

Have been to Aifur a couple of times and it has never failed to amaze me, weather its taking friends to experience the Viking atmosphere or just showing of to business partners what grande Stockholm has to over... From the moment you get there you are immersed into another world, music played with instruments long forgotten by present artists to mouthwatering dishes served to have you coming back for more. Love sharing the tables and meeting complete strangers and leaving friends...

Amazing Nordic atmosphere restaurant. Every guest is being announced, after which the whole restaurant claps and makes noise. The traditional music and wall decorations really add up to the Viking experience. Prices are high, which can be expected at such an experience. Note that this restaurant is meant to give the Nordic vibe, meaning you sit with multiple stranger at a table and it is noisy. This is all part of the experience.

A very special themed restaurant in the viking spirit!! Great service, and period musical entertainment. The food is actually very good, served on classic plates with matching cutlery and glasses. A bit dark to fully enjoy the food and presentation, but it goes with the theme! Also, it's not cheap, but you can get some more mead and that won't matter!!

This restaurant makes you feel like going back to the times of the Vikings. When you enter the restaurant, you will be welcomed by a tall Swedish guy, who is dressed like a Viking, and screams from which country you and your friends/company are visiting. The restaurant is decorated in Viking style and drinks are served in brown Viking mugs. You will be placed on big wooden tables along with other guests of the restaurant. The food is good, but be aware that you sit very close to others guests, that there is a lot of noise in the restaurant, and the prices of the food and drinks are not cheap. I could recommend the lamb meat.

I wanted to have nice atmosphere regarding to the reviews. Seems nice inside and food and drinks seem good. But everything was ruin by a waiter and didn’t have a chance to figure out the bar. I wanted to sit at the bar and I was looking for it and asking about where I can sit in a bar. Of coz I was looking around then he told me that “don’t sit” to me. Maybe I was very irritated. I have been so many bar in my life and none of them behave to me like “if you don’t find a place, don’t sit”. I supposed that he should at least suggest me how about sit there a bit squeeze with other people. I will be totally understand the hectic night in good bar. well, please don’t give attitude to the customers. ruined my night and expectations of Viking bar. sad

Loved this place. Is it corny? Yes. Is it ridiculous? Absolutely. But it was a great time. We didn’t have a reservation but they were able to accommodate us with the caveat that we had to be done in an hour for the party who reserved the table, so we ate and then went to the bar for another round and good conversation with the bartender and some other travelers. The food and mead was all great! Would recommend to anyone visiting.

If anyone wants to feel like they've had an authentic Viking experience, this is the restaurant to go to. Book early as if you walk in, you may only get a seat in the bar, and that's still a big maybe. If I could have ordered one of everything on the menu, I would, but the feast with almost all the meat options was amazing. Don't miss out on the beer, grogg, and mead or the story's in the back of the menu, which all the meal selections are based on.

You come for the viking experience, and you get the viking experience. Loud but well intentioned, iconic food, and MEAD! The bard really gets things going with the music, and the “presenter” shouting out/introducing people is amazing. The food is quite ok, and the mead is definitely tasty

The atmosphere is 10 out of 5 but this app only allows 5. If you read this, just go to the place, it's AMAZING.

I cannot say enough about this amazing restaurant! The food, waitstaff, live music, and overall atmosphere are on point and a total hit! Located downstairs in a basement, the walls are lined with viking gear and shields, and you can hear the live nyckelharpa player before you ever enter. Once you are to be seated, they announce you via a horn and good ole shout. So come up with a fun name for all who are already seated! You are seated at long tables possibly next to others and it can get hot so wear layers to make sure you are comfortable. They serve delicious Meade and have beers like IPA and stouts. Don't be afraid of the meat and cheese board with Reindeer heart and lamb. The Reindeer heart was not gamey and was in fact quite delicious and tender. I had the venison for dinner which was also super tender and even though served with a side of berries wasn't necessary for me bc the gravy like sauce was enough to wet the palate. Overall it was an experience we will never forget filled with laughter, good food, and great memories. If we are back in town, we will definitely be back here for another visit. Thank you all! Job well done all around. A+++

Amazingly fun place. While I had seen good reviews before I come here for dinner I think words don’t do it justice. They have truly gone above and beyond to create a cozy community vibe in the restaurant with communal long tables and the host introducing everyone who comes in individually to the group. It truly makes you feel like this must how it is in the old days in the tavern. So many little details of the place are outstanding including the cutleries, glasses etc. There is live music when I visited on a Wed evening dinner. Reservation highly recommended as they were full even on a weekday. Beware this place gets loud! Food taste very good as well. Price point is medium high but in my mind very well worth the experience.

Didn’t eat so can’t speak to the food, but grabbed a couple of beers two nights in a row & was delightful! There’s a bar area with seating available if you’re not there to eat. The atmosphere was so fun, love music & with the staff announcing people’s arrival. Seemed very friendly and a great way to get to know other people in the area as well, as seating is long benches. The mead was great too!

Great atmosphere, definitely an experience unique in Stockholm. Be sure to try out their big selection of mead and don't be shy when they announce your arrival for the tavern visitors 😅

😠 Had heard good things about the place but was sadly disappointed. Waited 15 min for a menu and then 35 min for the food. I ordered the bearnaise 150g steak but as you can see that was never 150g, ridiculously small. Also the warmth was lacking. My company had the chicken burger and it was nearly col...
