We were a group of 6, so I had a chance to see 4 rooms during my stay. Quick summary.. Cons: Rooms are disappointing - not very clean, sticky floor, dated/tired looking throughout, bathrooms are like public toilets and the photos online are misleading. It felt more like a 2 star by UK standards. Pros: Decent breakfast, friendly staff, hence 2 stars I'm unlikely to return

Nice hotel just outside Stockholm city centre with many restaurants and cafes nearby. It was a comfortable stay for 2 days. Rooms and clean and spacious with bathrooms having either a shower or a bath tub. It also had other basic stuff like a iron with an iron board, a kettle etc. Staff is friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was decent too with variety of options available. Definitely recommended!!

A very average hotel in the center of Stockholm. The hotel was close (but not so close) to a metro station. Service from the reception was very basic, bordline rude. The rooms were quite bad but habitable. Very small in size, miniscule bathroom, matresses not of good quality, noises from wiring and other machines continuously heard during our stay. The only thing thay shone in this hotel was the excellent breakfast! It had a great variety with every kind of food you would imagine to have as a breakfast. Great quality! Overall, I recommend it only if there is a great offer available, thus making a booking cheaper. Otherwise, one can surely find better options!

I bow to the service alone! Came in early, around 9am as my flight landed 7,30am, asked about earliest check in times and the receptionist was so lovely to give me a room right away! Oh that short nap was so worthwhile. So empathy and service is great Breakfast is lovely too, wide selection, fresh. Lovely hotel in a safe area :)

Very fresh hotel rooms with good prices and availability of the hotel underground safe parking if you come with car. HUGE breakfast buffet with fresh and very good food! Dinner is also amazing at the hotel. Rooms are super comfortable, vert quiet and really comfortable beds. Staff is absolutely amazing and friendly and listen to any problems is they would occur. Love coming here when in Stockholm and recommend. Dogs are also allowed which I love!!❤️

I left the room and when came back my little perfume bottle was empty. The cleaning woman said she even did not see it though it was in the open space and she did the cleaning, so she saw it very well! The administration told she'd been working at the hotel for a long time and she would tell in case of any acccident. But she didn't. So be aware of your belongings. Don't reccomend as all the mood was spoilt with this situation.

If this is a 4-star hotel then there is no hope for the hotel industry. Let’s start with the good; breakfast (fresh and a decent selection) and the motorized shoe shiner near the elevator (easy and fun to keep shoes clean). The not-so-good; rooms (old, tired and IKEA grade furniture), cleanliness (unpleasant odors, common areas are dirty and some places are downright filthy), and some of the clientele (“professionals” working the area and hotel, especially in the evening). In no world is this a 4-star hotel, more in line w/ a 2-star hotel.

Hotel Birger Jarl is in a safe location in the centre of Stockholm. It's walkable to the waterfront or an easy metro ride away. My original room was lovely, the perfect size, clean, and had everything I needed. Unfortunately, there was an issue with the lighting and with no fuss whatsoever, my room was upgraded to a much better room. The upgraded room was a suite, with a balcony. The suite was amazing, with large rooms, a massive bathroom and plenty of space. Hotel Birger Jarl is clean, safe, friendly and somewhere I would stay again when visiting Stockholm.

Maybe I missed this when looking at somewhere to book in Stockholm but the Jarl is definitely a budget hotel that's been dressed up to look better than it is. The reception and welcome is really nice, but as soon as you get past there and into the lift and rooms everything is tired and dated. Stayed in a standard twin/double room. The room is a good enough size and the bathroom is good with a decent shower. Good storage for clothes but the bed and pillows are so uncomfortable. A good night's sleep is not possible, for me anyway. The cleaners are great, tidy and clean and a little bottle of water left for you. The mini fridge though, open at your own peril.... They stink! The breakfast is ok, sort of traditional continental breakfast plenty (not a greasy breakfast for the Brits reading this) They'll whip up an omelette for you which is good, nice coffee. Location wise, perfect. Short walk to the centre, easy access from the airport on the train. Can get anywhere within 30/40min walk or use the trains, so it's a good hub to use. Just could be a comfier place to be after long days exploring. If you're only doing 1 or 2 nights maybe better but 4 nights, I'd go for somewhere a bit comfier next time.

Convenient and nice hotel. Located close to Stockholm's center. Kettle and tea bag/coffee in each room. Rich breakfast. Also vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free.

  • 4/5 Bryan C. 6 months ago on Google
The overall expenrience was good. Only 2 point that could be improved: 1) bathroom are very old when you compare it to the room itself, 2) the gluten-free option for the breakfast are quite limited.

Great location in a quiet street. The room was very comfortable. The breakfast was plentiful and well served. The staff is very friendly and kind!

The hotel is really close to city center and to the public transportation. The staff is very responsive and helpful and help us to check in earlier. It was a nice accomodation and I recommend it

First time visit, location is 10 minutes by taxi from the central station or 25 by metro. It's close to local bus routes but still walkable to city centre and old town. The reception staff are friendly and helpful. The lobby bar and restaurant are comfortable with a bit of atmosphere. The food is good and the room was very comfortable if a bit warm even with the air conditioning. I would happily return here for another short break.

  • 5/5 Sonia A. 6 months ago on Google
My friend and I had a great stay here! Prices were very reasonable and the location is great. It’s a bit of a walk to the old town but there’s loads to do in the area. Staff were unbelievably lovely and accommodating. There’s a great bar in the lobby. I would 100% recommend staying here.

  • 4/5 Reza M. 7 months ago on Google
The hotel and rooms have undergone renovations, though the windows and bathrooms remain old-fashioned. Unfortunately, the shower experience wasn't comfortable. On a positive note, the location was excellent, providing easy access to public transportation, good restaurants and cafes. The hotel staff was notably friendly and accommodating.

  • 5/5 Tim A. 7 months ago on Google
I had a great stay here. The staff was excellent. The room was very clean and quite nice. I chose a room without a window so that I could save a little money. But I didn't spend much time in the room anyhow. After I checked out, they had lockers to store my bag (since my flight wasn't until late that night).

Great hotel. Loved the location. It was far enough from the hustle of the city to be incredibly quiet but close enough that it was an enjoyable walk to most things. Rooms were nice and clean, just wish they had bigger fans. Breakfast was really good and the upstairs and downstairs breakfast service kept it from getting too crowded. Bar and restaurant were good and the staff was friendly everywhere. If we ever make it back we would stay here again.

  • 5/5 Kay H. 7 months ago on Google
Very friendly and competent staff at the reception. The area around the hotel is quiet, so we could sleep with the windows open. There are several reasonably priced restaurants 3..4 blocks away. The hotel allowed us to store our suitcases in the luggage room after checking out as our train departed in the late evening.

  • 5/5 Michelle R. 7 months ago on Google
I would definitely stay here again!! Friendly staff, clean rooms, great location, great price.. I wished the bar had a better beer or cider selection but it was a wonderful stay. Oh, and the 2 areas for breakfast was awesome, and the breakfast was very good!!

Rooms are large and comfortable, and the place feels modern though lacks character. Breakfast was good. Bathroom is less convenient with only a tub, and there was some clicking noise at night from the air conditioner, which is annoying when you can’t fall asleep.

  • 4/5 Laura C. 9 months ago on Google
This hotel has clean rooms, a good front desk, ok wifi and a nice restaurant bar area. It doesn’t have good temperature regulation in the rooms, the lifts are not good (especially when you are in a hurry) and can be noisy if you’re in some rooms.

  • 4/5 Alan S. 6 months ago on Google
Really nice hotel, well located just outside city centre, but decent public transport links to the rest of the city. Rooms are comfortable if a bit compact. Breakfast is buffet style and is very good, staff are very friendly and helpful. I would happily return anytime.

Modern large reasonably priced hotel, a bit anonymous, large breakfast buffet. Good for academics at SSE or KTH. Go there via PendeltĂĄg 40 to Odenplan from Arlanda, 158 SEK.

Booked 2 rooms for my family and I, chose a triple sharing room and a twin sharing room. Was expecting to at least be on the same level, but our rooms were very far apart. The triple room was on level 6 pretty near to the lift and the twin room was on level 2, last unit from the lift. The corridors were pretty dimly lit, and it gets pretty eerie, dark and quiet at night. Especially for 2 young girls to be staying there on our own. My room number is 246. Right at the very end. The walls are thin, heard footsteps at 1am outside at the corridor for 2 nights, which was pretty scary since we're the last unit, however we were too afraid to investigate. This alone ruined the hotel's experience for us. The breakfast is good, but do make sure you head down earlier to get a seat for yourselves. Approx 10mins walk from the nearest metro station. Location was alright.

Located in central Stockholm (15 minutes walk from Stockholm Central Station). Great value for the money and breakfast buffet was absolutely fantastic. Very quiet environment where I had a very good sleep like my home.

Booked a Deluxe standard room which was supposed to be 17Msq. But was way smaller than that. Bathroom was cramped. Building seems to be really old and temp control system was bad and very cold at night. Only pros were friendly staff and good breakfast.

Nice hotel near restaurants. Our room was small and didn’t have anything special but enjoyed our one night stay. If you are staying longer than one night, i recommend you to take the bigger room with bigger bed. Breakfast was good and the staff friendly :) Plus for the gym.

Awesome service, great room, wonderful staff. I stayed here for a week and they made it an absolute pleasure. Should I return to the city, I will be staying here again without a doubt.

Really nice hotel. Reception personal was more than helpful, restaurant and bar stuff know what they are doing, especially bartender Marko. Most definitely will be staying here again.

Good location and breakfast, the staff was good except for the receptionist since he make us show proof of reserve and payments in a very brood way. The relation of quality-price is in the average for Stockholm so you have several options.

Overall good rooms and service. Big drawback is the laundry lorry that comes 4-6AM driver crashes and bangs for an hour solid. Not had a good nights sleep yet which is a shame as otherwise its a lovely hotel.

Hotel Birger Jarl is located in a great spot. Far enough from the city center to avoid noise however close enough to walk in a sunny day. My stay in Stockholm this time was blessed with good weather thus I have nothing but good feelings for the location. The 15 minutes walk to center has made my mornings much better! The staff has been friendly and helpful. Clean rooms albeit a bit dated. All facilities are working. If you are aiming for a headache free good price vs quality ratio, you can pick Hotel Birger Jarl without hesitation.

We spend here 2 night for a city-break. The location is great: good walk to central station or city, the surrounding is nice and calm. The staff is nice, the room is small, but very clean. Some common areas need to be refurbished, our fav was the red LED in the elevator. The breakfast is really amazing: various assortment, nice quality and fika is a must have.

I've been in many other countries and i have to say, Birger jarl hotel is really one of the best. Very friendly and helpful staff, strategic position on the map ( close to city center), reasonably cheap , amazingly good quality breakfast that is included, spacious and lively rooms. You can also go to the gym for free. Totally recommended.

Hotel was fine. Lights were weird in the room and there was no swing lock on the inside (for folks who like to double lock). Also no outlets by the bed so I had to charge devices across the room

Great stay, good breakfast. Nothing to complaint. Close to Odenplan Station, a bit far from tourist spot, but you can easily take bus to there in 5 mins.

Okay hotel, worn rooms and useless aircondition (onlys lets you adjust +/- 3 degrees, made no difference at all in the warm summer night. Added an extra star for the really cold refrigerator in the room, that sort of made up for the AC issues. Expensive parking, and impossibly narrow to navigate a big car down in the garage (Tesla X). Friendly and helpful staff. Restaurant was OK, but not great. Location is what sells it, no questions about that!

Booked this hotel after looking for a good one in Stockholm for our first ever trip. The hotel is located in a very good place & the staff is nice, but the hotel in itself is not worthy any praise. We were 3 people who booked a room that was advertised as being big, but we ended up having space for nothing but the 3 beds. We could barely stand all 3 at once. The bathroom was supersmall, old & not properly cleaned even though we alerted them before hand that cleanliness was extra important due to one of the travellers illness. The breakfast buffet was also very small & had almost nothing to offer other than cheese, cucumber & tomato if you are vegetarian. The restaurant chairs need to be changed too and had lots of dirt marks. The location of the hotel & the nice staff raise the bar but the hotel itself is not worth the visit. Unless you book a suite, you will get a small room barely fitting 2. The standard advertised on their site is also not completely true. I might come back because of its location but it doesnt feel tempting.

Twice as expensive as other hotels nearby, a tenth as nice. Unless you are in a dire situation, pick another.

  • 5/5 Jens-Kaidar L. 1 year ago on Google
Our double room was decent. Nothing special, but convenient and spacious enough to satisfy all our needs for a 2 night stay. Bathroom was maybe a bit out-dated and the ventilation in there made a constant humming noise, which could be heard in the room a bit during the night, but it didn't bother us too much. Breakfast selection and location of the hotel itself was ideal for us. It was actually already our second stay in the hotel. Probably will visit again.

Great location in the city of Stockholm and in the midst of many great restaurants such as Farang and Svartengrens, to mention a few. Rooms are excellent and interior breathes classic modern with a pinch of Scandinavian design. You come here to enjoy superb service and to get away from nightlife noise just five blocks away. Did I mention the friendly staff? I can imagine staying at Hotel Birger Jarl again and again.

Overall the hotel is not that bad: about 20 min walk from the city center, breakfasts are fine, many rooms are recently renovated, but I stayed there with colleagues twice and all of us all the time had terrible view on the inside yard; the staff by mistake reserved an extra night for us; another time (again by mistake) the staff charged my colleague with extra SEK 1000 - as a result her bank card reached its limit… I forgot my umbrella in the hotel lobby in the evening and the next morning I could not find it. It was stolen either by the guests or staff. My colleagues complained of disrespectful attitude from the staff who said that we should not complain as for money we spent we “should have been lived in the rooms without windows”

Neighborhood and hotel felt safe. Room has been clean, good wifi. Polite staff. Location around 30min from the national museum. The room was very very cold. I couldn't shower because If I did I would've definitely get sick. Doesn't matter how I set the air conditioner he was just blowing cold air so in the end I gave up and turned it off. It's not 4 star hotel as it pretends to be that's for sure. I left things as they were just because I was staying only for the night and I've been too tired to deal with this after 20h flight, but still that's unacceptable. Also before the trip I saw that my booking reservation dates got mixed up and I have book same but for other month. The reservation was non-refundable because when I was searching to book I was not shown other options. Anyway I requested politely if I can change the dates as I was gonna stay after all at the hotel. No answer. I requested then a free cancelation through booking and I explained everything In a message. No answer for 3 full days. Meanwhile in these days I already booked other room at the hotel and I have stayed. I again explained at the receptionist the problem and if I can seek any help but I was answered that this is not a decision of the hotel but of booking(when I know that booking sends request to the hotel regarding these type of issues and the hotel mares the decisions) . I left with the feeling that she says it on purpose. I wrote next a whole email to the hotel and they finally answered me with of course surprise- undirectly notifying me that they are not going to allow me free cancelation. I know it is my fault but still all of this leaves very bad impression and taste. I've been to many, many hotels in the world. Similar situation happened to be once before in a way more expensive hotel and they tolerate me with understanding.

Nice hotel which is very far from the Central station. It is modern but the breakfast does not meet the expectations. Eggs were not well cooked and there is no fresh juice. All hotel was overbooked and if you have reserved room and you check in late in the evening they will probably send you to another creapy hotel. So have it in mind.
