R1 is an old experimental nuclear reactor that has been cleaned for safe human occupancy. Fifty meters below ground level and encrusted into rocky caverns, it provides a unique atmosphere for dinners, concerts, theater, art installations and research opportunities unlike any other place on the KTH campus. Another unique feature is the unparalleled signal-free atmosphere, as no radio waves penetrate that far. The are no wireless signals, except for the local wifi routers that can be under your control. Finally, R1 is equipped with state of the art sound, image, and lighting equipment ready to satisfy all your media demands.

A really cool place! Visited during an art expo, but the place is truly impressive as it is. It made me curious about the place and would be so interesting to hear more of the history behind it and see pictures from when this was an active workplace. If you have the chance to go down, take it!

It's the site of the first nuclear plant in Sweden (used for research purposes). Now it is nothing more than an empty hovel with a few holes in the ground, in place of the machinery. There are no models of the equipment used and it is just something to satisfy your curiosity, wouldn't spend more than 15min underground...

Very nice to visit at least once. They organize different small events, from music to conferences. It's nice experience to see where once actually was standing a real nuclear reactor.

Deep underground on KTH campus lies a former nuclear reactor experiment lab. The big void (hole) is not particularly exciting, but the atmosphere is what it's all about.

It's rare being able to visit these one of a kind places. You can't really walk down into any old reactor chamber a Monday afternoon. The place is well preserved and completely safe. If you get the chance to, do visit. Though, you have to contact staff for them to let you down inside so be sure to plan your visit ahead of time.

An important part of Swedish industrial history and even though most of the equipment has been removed from the site it was well worth a visit for me. -and if you use the stairs then it's also a good exercise :)
