The gallery is the home of Thiel who collected a lot of paintings and works of art at the start of XX century. It is very interesting if you want to know something about the artists of Sweden and the paintings are amazing but it a pity because there are no explanations I English, so it is difficult to understand something for a tourist. Luckily also the staff is very friendly and they can give you informations.

One of the nicer art galleries in Stockholm is the Thielska art gallery located in a turn of the century villa on the island of Djurgården. It is hidden away on a remote spot surrounded by trees and water. The easiest way of getting there is to take the 69 bus to Blockhusudden from the central station, be careful as there are two end destinations and Kaknästornet will leave you short of the destination and it's a good 20 minute walk, however if you do you can have a look at the TV tower while you wait for another bus or walk back a few minutes to the museums, which are maritime, sports, science and police museums. The gallery has a permanent collection of some of the best Nordic artists in a fantastic setting as well as wast temporary exhibitions and at the moment it is Tyra Kleen which covers the lower floor. There is a nice shop and a great cafe with plenty of drink and food choices. You can easily spend two hours here.

I called in here mid day mid week, it's has big airy rooms, and smaller more intimate spaces with an eclectic collection of art work. I liked the balance of paintings and sculptures, the different room settings added something to the gallery too. The eating area, is spacious however the place where you pick up your food can get congested very easily if there are more than half a dozen people queuing. Food was nice, good portion sizes. The gardens have some interesting pieces in them too! Will definitely call again.

I really enjoyed my visit. I like art museums that aren't huge. The cafe was lovely for an afternoon fika - coffee and cake. The special exhibition of paintings by Tora Vega Holmström was my favorite. Paintings by Edvard Munch were also a highlight.

An interesting collection of Swedish art, including several of the better known works by Bruno Liljefors. But how much better it would have been if Thiel's home had been presented furnished instead of as a sterile gallery. I can only suppose that most of the original furniture was sold off when the state took over the house and art. Pity.

This was a great excuse to get ferry 80 from central Stockholm to travel to the museum. After getting off you can go left or right from the jetty. Going left means you enter via the garden with its lovely Vigeland sculptures, so if you went right, make sure you leave via the garden. No really, you don't want to miss them (but go to Vigeland Park in Oslo before you get too old, you will thank me). Inside is a collection of paintings that is by turn interesting and dull - like most museums. We came for the Carl Larsson (but there is less than I hoped for) and to a lesser extent, the Munch (much less than you expect). But having said that, I still enjoyed the visit. The building is beautiful and calming, the displays and information are good, and the cafe - OMG that cafe was fantastic. Near there is the 'Gravitational Ripple'. Go find it and have a thoughtful moment. So IMHO, yes go and enjoy the water and the serenity and the art and the food. You won't be sorry.

Nice place to visit as a part of the history with some surprising authentic famous paintings, but not great collection though. It's more the experience itself that stands.

A pearl of a museum. Got there from the city on boat line 80 and enjoyed waalklinker there in the “countryside” It is a small museum with an amazing art collection.m presented in an old home. Certainly a top Stockholm site not worth missing.

Located on national park of Djurgården, Thielska Galleriet is a one of a kind museum to visit when in Stockholm. In permanent collection, amazing pieces from the begining of 20th century displayed in an art nouveau mansion. Built for rich industrial family Thiel, this mansion is an architectural jewel which worth the visit by itself. Temporary exhibitions are organised to enhance swedish culture. And for fika, cheffe Monika Ahlberg's café will seduce your tastebuds. To go back center city, a bus stop is just near the museum but if weather is sunny, the walk though Djurgården and its canal will take you around 45mn. Entrance fee to museum is 130 sek

It was a gem. Starting from a light lunch in a museum caffe, and ending in the garden right out of at the rear of the propery. The artworks are impressive. Worthy of visiting.

Absolutely adorable: so well kept in every aspect, it's got some real masterpiece and even the staff is lovely. Haven't tried the cakes but they looked amazing, and the garden is the perfect spot to have them.

Beautiful Jugendstil villa with private art collection from beginning of 20th century. Nice garden. Cafe is overcrowded, better skip it.

This is a very small museum that was recommended to me by a friend once I told him I love Swedish or Scandinavian jugendstil and arts & crafts. The Museum is the residence of a wealthy person from the turn of the century and everything from the location, the architecture to the tasteful interior design and of course the collection of art is beautiful and contemplative. Also, because not many people come here! My personal favorites are paintings by Strindberg, cold and harsh, and the wooden ensemble by Fjæstad.

Precious collection with several artists from early XX century, for the Nordic like Munch and some impressionists as well. The palace is also very nicely located and you can reach it both by bus or walking/cycling along a beautiful waterfront path. The cafe inside the gallery is worth for a Swedish Fika!

Most beautiful gallery in Stockholm, well curated collection. Always worth the small detour it is.

Cute private gallery with a focus on Munch, Larsson, Eugene, among other Nordic artists. Staff is accommodating and helpful. Dinning Area is a nice backyard amongst trees. It’s not the easiest to get there tho. Bus 69 seems one option if you don’t want to walk all the way thru the island.

A little art gallery tucked away in Djurgården area, close to the Blockhusudden ferry point in Stockholm. This art gallery houses modern art from the late 18th to early 19th century. This was in the early days the house of an affluent banker. He was an art afficionado . This was later taken up by the government. Inside the gallery this is a nice cozy cafe with a view to the waters. You can also buy memorabilia from this gallery. This gallery is located in a beautiful place within the Djurgården area and worth a walk from the Blockhusudden ferry .
