My
recent
visit
to
Matbaren,
a
Michelin
Guide-listed
restaurant
in
Stockholm,
was
somewhat
underwhelming.
The
service
was
adequate,
but
the
frequent
changes
in
waitstaff
slightly
marred
the
experience.
There
was
also
a
noticeable
gap
in
the
staff's
knowledge
about
the
dishes
and
the
provenance
of
ingredients.
I
opted
for
the
tasting
menu,
which
comprised
four
dishes.
In
my
opinion,
these
dishes
were
overly
complex,
with
an
excess
of
ingredients
and
sauces.
The
ingredient
selection
also
seemed
to
overlook
local
and
seasonal
produce.
For
example,
the
use
of
avocado
in
one
of
the
dishes
felt
out
of
place
for
high-end
dining.
The
wine
list,
on
the
other
hand,
was
impressive
and
befitting
of
a
restaurant
that
had
once
earned
a
Michelin
star.
The
restaurant
itself
is
beautifully
designed,
with
a
great
atmosphere
and
pleasant
acoustics.
The
reception
was
very
welcoming.
It's
clear
they
have
the
potential
to
regain
their
former
glory.
While
the
desserts
and
bread
were
exceptional,
considering
the
Michelin-level
prices
and
based
on
my
experience,
I
find
it
difficult
to
recommend
