Gotta start by saying my wife and I always seek out the cheapest hotels in any region we visit just to see if the reviews are as honest as they appear - in the case of The Crown, it was certainly borderline ….. we’re giving a 3* rating based on the friendly staff, room cleanliness against the amazing low price. We arrived mid-evening, there was a very drunk lady swigging cider from a bottle on the doorstep who greeted us warmly, but luckily the real staff were inside talking to two policemen who were there to investigate a missing guest … Key obtained, we made our way up to our 1st floor room, wondering if the sagging, creaking floorboards beneath the very old hallway carpet were actually safe. On the way we passed a ceiling hatch with water flowing onto the carpet beneath which we reported to reception The room was actually clean, as were the bed sheets and towels, but there was so much functionally wrong with the room we simply cannot list it all here ! The noise from both other guests in adjoining rooms and from loud people outside the hotel were certainly a disturbance, and the lack of comfort on the mattress suggests it was probably long overdue for retirement. This hotel could have great potential, but the cost of refurbishment would be astronomical, so make the most of the low cost and keep your fingers crossed that the floorboards hold out ….

An outrageous experience! I booked this hotel for 5 people and because of a "bug" we had two rooms for two... No hot water, springs as a bed, no heating. If I come back to this hotel I will sleep in the toilets, my night will be better.

Wow where do I start what an absolute god forsaken hotel it's like crack head central! The staff are rude and deserve a slap the rooms are horrendous DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT BOOK THIS PLACE You'd be honestly better going to go outdoors and buying a tent and sleeping bag! The pvc windows are held shut with normal door brackets the rooms break every single health and safety law there is! My loft hatch was opened during my stay And there is drill holes in the ceiling in the bathrooms so I dread to think who's been filmed!! AVOID THIS HOTEL AT ALL COSTS I FOR ONE WILL BE REPORTING THIS HOTEL AND EVERY ASPECT OF IT!!! DISCUSTING!!!!!!!!!

Worst night in my life. My bed made me feel like I was sleeping on a battlefield (at least I had one, my friend had to sleep on the floor as they put the wrong number of beds on the reservation), the door handles and towel holders stay in your hand when you use them. No hot water in the shower nor in the tap, the wall paint was all over the floor as well. Keep your money and go sleep in a field, you'll be more comfortable and you'll at least have a great view.

I booked a room here for my friend. He was a bit concerned when we arrived at the same time as the police who were making arrests on the premises. But when he looked at the room it seemed nice. The receptionist told him that he couldn’t complain or get a refund because there was no manager there and he would have to stay the night and take it up with a manager in the morning. In the end it wasn’t too bad. He was woken up several times by slamming doors in the night but the price was good.

Me and my partner didn't even stay more than 15 minutes, the room was disgusting there was damp on the ceiling and down the wall, the door to the room definitely was not secure so we didn't feel safe leaving our belongings in the room, it honestly looked like a crack house. There was cracked tiles in the bathroom, dirty windowsills and on the cabinets, we wanted our money back as the room was not even suitable human habitation. We were told refunds were against there policy so we will be taking this further

Stayed here for all of 15 minutes. Staff were very friendly and welcoming however when we got to the room there was everything wrong with it (to be expected due to its 2 star rating) however the final straw was the door which didn’t lock alongside the window that was stuck open. Me and my mates feeling unsafe in the room left for the 3 hour drive home. Don’t stay here if you value any sort of security.

Dont go, 1 star because i cant put less. When we arrived they told us that they had a « bug » in our reservation we had only 4 beds instead of 5. We made our check in at 10 pm and they seemed to know the issues before we get in (they obviously didnt tell anything before). They managed to find (after we asked )a mattress that we put on the ground since they couldnt change our room (was full). We had no hot watter, everything was falling appart. Would rather sleep in my car if i knew what was going to happen…

I booked this hotel on Booking.com for one night. I just needed somewhere cheap to stay for the night and wasn't too fussy. As I was travelling alone I literally just wanted a bed for the night and nothing more. Foolishly I chose the cheapest place in Stoke... No where on Booking.com does it mention that this is more of a halfway house than a hotel. I turned up early and thought I would wait until check in at the hotel bar. From the outside it looks like a classic hotel with a lovely tiled entrance and I was quite impressed. I thought the nearby rail bridge added character and was quite happy with my choice. I walked in to find a man in a tracksuit staggering down the corridor towards me... He was obviously extremely inebriated. I decided to avoid him but, there was no one on the front desk. So, I quickly turned right off the main foyer and found myself in what I guess used to be the bar... I took a few quick pictures and ran. I ended up going to a nearby pub and got talking with some locals who told me that The Crown is a halfway house and that I'd be wise to stay away. I quickly made a reservation at the closest Premier Inn and am going to be complaining to Booking.com after writing this review. It states that they don't give refunds but nowhere does it say that The Crown is a halfway house. Completely unacceptable.

Absolutely horrific. Walked out after 5 minutes. Avoid at all costs. Damp, cold rooms. Horrific smell throughout hotel, doors all hanging on by a thread, bogeys flicked all over the ceiling in the one room! Halfway house not hotel. Joke.

Beautiful Victorian style hotel with some lovely visitors Room was immaculate and clean and was even given a free carlsberg special brew by one of the friendly people who was also staying at the hotel Forget the other hotels in stoke on Trent when you can stay at this little gem in the city centre of longton

Not very pleasant but not dirty or riddled with bugs as other visitors have stated some repairs are needed and we could not hear trains and traffic wasnt too bad after 8pm. I did have a good sleep on the comfortable bed (7 hours) overall hotel not too bad

Um, what can I say? It appears to be a dodgy area. The car park had abandoned cars. There was a broken window at the side of the building as we walked to the entrance. The staff on the desk were friendly. As we walked up to the first floor there were boarded up windows. Inside the room there were holes in the flooring, uneven floorboards to the point of actual large dips. There was an attic hatch in the bathroom which was slightly open and dirt kept falling through onto the sink. In the bedroom were curtains that didn’t close properly. Outside one of the windows was a railway track about 15-20 foot away with trains going past by the hour. There were some cupboards, one had a broken back piece and the other had draws with burn marks inside and wouldn’t open properly, not that we would use these cupboards! The TV had no remote control so we had to ask for one. They had a box of them with missing backs so the batteries were taped in. We were also provided one pillow each. I asked for more but nobody came, although in the morning they apologised and we had extra pillows for the second night. There was no Wi-Fi so we tried to watch a downloaded film on my iPad. It was hot so we had the windows open. We were constantly disturbed by the train and traffic going past where the engines were being rev’d really loudly. Next came the drunk people, arguing, shouting, laughing. The safety catch on 2 of the windows was broken so it was dangerous having children in the room. Generally, the room was in poor condition and I believe it is mostly used as a half way house. On a more positive note, the beds were comfortable and no signs of bed bugs. I shared a double with my daughter and had to swap sides as the one side had a dip in the mattress. Not sure it would have been suitable for 2 adults! We managed to stick out the 2 night stay as it is 25 mins from Alton Towers. We also had a good laugh about all the issues with the room. I have teenagers, so I didn’t feel too vulnerable, although I wouldn’t have left the room after dark. Had I been there with younger children it would have been a different story. Please, pay a little extra for the premier inn near Alton Towers. You know what you’re getting then. This is not suitable for families, or even humans!

Very rude staff. Dirty hovel of a place n probably the worst hotel in Britain. Absolutely disgusting place catering for mainly homeless I think. The streets are cleaner I imagine than this place. Damp walls and dirty bed sheets that haven't been washed and was freezing cold. I got my money back and slept in my work van. Felt cleaner.

Worst hotel I ever stayed. Smelling rooms, no hot water, no towels, noisy area and uncomfortable bed. A total rubbish.

Not sure where to start. Firstly avoid stoke at all costs; it's like going back to the victorian days but with chavs and smackheads thrown in. Everyone was either fat and bald or a junkie. Woman on reception was ok.. Service was ok. Room grotty. No tv remote or hot water. Lots of refugees and other characters outside the rooms just loitering in coridoor. Even in the morning the car park was full of tramps having a whinge to some bloke in a van. Only good thing was the proximity to Tesco. Never again.

Good Morning! Well can't give less then 5 stars just because is an old building... is clean...so clean the first impact with the room was a real hit of bleach :) At the price I paid what would one expect other then clean sheets bed and a bathroom. Loved the size of the Tv, it felt funny there wasn't a remote available... for me was ok as wasn't planning to watch anything particularly... even I fall asleep very hard. There is no breakfast available... It would be really good if it was at least the chairs put down... Even if is nothing served...doesn't look welcoming! ( 5 min walk at tesco cafe you can get yourself something to enjoy) I need it an affordable place to spend the night before I leave in the evening, would enjoy the day on two attraction nearby: Biddulph Grange Garden & Trentham Estate.

The rooms are functional and clean but have no wifi which in this day and age is just plain odd. There is wifi in public areas that can be used. Hot water is hot and decent pressure for a good shower. Tea and coffee making facilities and are replaced each day. The staff were very helpful and advised me of different places to obtain food late at night upon check-in and breakfast the following day. Checked with me to make sure everything was OK the following day. Location is absolutely fine but it is next to a busy junction and the noise travels. Great walking distance to a local centre with an array of shops. Taxi's are eaay to arrange and the hotel is easy to find.
