Had a meal with some friends over Xmas. It was lovely. Had venison scotch egg, pork belly and sticky toffee pudding. Would definitely eat that again and recommend this pub. We ate in the restaurant. Have eaten in the pub side too. The staff are very friendly.

We were passing through today and after reading such great reviews we thought we'd pop in for lunch. The lovely friendly blonde lady said that they were fully booked for lunch (always a good sign!) but said she would fit us in & did find us a table for myself, friend & my daughter, she said the wait may be a while but not too long. The food came out much faster than expected and was hot, fresh and delicious, all of the staff were very attentive and made sure we were happy. I had the gammon (more chips were under it which you can't see in the photo) my friend & daughter had pizzas which are freshly made from scratch, his only opinion was a bit more seasoning/flavour to the pizza sauce. We'd definitely come back though, lovely pub with beams and a well looked after pretty outdoors area. Thank you!

First time visiting but very friendly staff welcomed us on arrival. Food was nice ranging from sandwiches to full meals. We chose to eat in the bar area rather than restaurant. Service was great, food was great and we had a nice seating area perfect for catching up with friends. Will return.

Had not been to The Chequers since pre covid & even though restrictions are relaxed, the pub felt very covid secure with waiting staff wearing masks or visors. Cutlery all in individual bags, hand sanitiser dotted around at intervals & good spacing between diners which I like regardless, dont always want to have to listen to people's conversations. The menu was varied so should cover most people's taste even a vegan menu which was very good as at most places you're lucky to be offered one vegan dish. Portions we're generous & food was piping hot. The staff were attentive & friendly. There's a good size outdoor area ,equally as comfortable as inside. There is a carpark but it's not huge & could be a little tight if you have a large vehicle. All in all a very pleasant evening.

Really nice place, I can highly recommend the Pan fried Sea Bream it was very nice. My mum said the cheese and Bacon burger was really nice too and it was awesome that they catered for Gluten free alternatives for alot of the menu she has never managed to have a Burger at a restaurant before. The staff were very friendly.

Lovely meal with great service in the nicely decorated courtyard of this thatched pub. Everything was freshly cooked and delicious. I think I'd ask for half portion next time. We had mushrooms on sourdough followed by spring veg risotto, and my partner had chicken thighs with satay sauce filled by fish and chips. All sauce were homemade and the veg was cooked to perfection. Lovely friendly staff. Good covid prevention still going on which was good to see.

We walked in while exploring after moving locally. Tracy was very welcoming and had a chat with us. Had not expected to eat, but was drawn in by the smell and atmosphere. I had a three meat roast with pigs in blankets as a side. Really enjoyed it, I would the turkey was the best meat, the carrot puree was fantastic and fragrant, the stuffing, roast potatoes and greens all good. They gave enough gravy, which was great, as some places are a bit mean. Would we go back? Yes. Would we eat there again? Yes.

Just had a lovely time at the Chequers. It was a family celebration and they couldn't do enough for us. They were lovely when one of our family members wasn't feeling very well too. Booked in advance. Paid a deposit and selected pur meals. Thank you The Chequers!

Popped into this old pub for Sunday roast as we were passing through the area. We were seated next to a lovely couple. Food was of good quality, we could not eat all our roast. The puddings looked amazing. We will be back one day with friends

First time here and lovely place. Very clean and tidy. Food was really nice. Nice atmosphere and we sat outside in the beautiful courtyard. A little pricey but not extortionate. Will definitely be visiting again.

Went there on a Sunday and it was excellent. The staff were welcoming and kind, the food was amazing and the chocolate brownie desert was honestly the best I have experienced. Will definitely be going back!

i love the owners of the restaurant/pub because I've lived here my whole life. I am a rather fussy eater and i love the burgers 10/10 would recommend. My entire family like eating there and the food. The staff are always polite and understanding. Also good access for wheel-chair users btw. The interior and exterior is pretty and it feels cozy both inside and outside. I recommend coming here.

Had lunch here today and it was fantastic. As I am vegan, there is usually only one or two options when I go out to eat (especially for lunch) however here, I was spoilt for choice! We were served by Matt and someone I didn't catch the name of but appeared to be a manager or supervisor. Both were incredibly friendly and helpful. Food was amazing and were good portions, too. Food and drink quite pricey but worth it!

A Great place for a meal. Great food at sensible prices. Try the lunchtime set menu, you won't be disappointed. Great fish and chips with Stokes Tomato Ketchup. Great.

Nice pub with staff that are helpful and set in a nice location. The Sunday roast was decent enough except the Yorkshire puddings where not great, a bit stale and the roast veg was undercooked. The sticky toffee was not particularly sticky. They do have a good range of beers on draft. Over all the pub is nice but I wouldn't expect a top end meal here.

First time customer and had to share our thoughts. A* for the courteous and welcoming staff. We had a smile from every person who worked there and can say it's one of the warmest welcomes we've had from a restaurant in a long time. All staff seemed very happy in their work and it shone through. The food was delicious, well cooked and well seasoned (the pork belly was very tasty), really looking forward to trying more on the menu... we'll be back. Thank you

Have never had a bad experience when at The Chequers. Staff are always friendly, the food has always been really good (they do takeaway too). Beer choice is limited but they cater to my needs at least. Highly recommend The Chequers!

Oh my. We don’t usually go out for Sunday lunch but today’s dinner was such a TREAT! I’m veggie - the nut roast doesn’t always grab me but I was able to have a roast with a cauliflower cheese side as the main. And it was DELICIOUS! The puddings were out of this world too. But the best thing? The young people serving. They were outstanding - so polite, attentive and friendly. Loved it. It wasn’t expensive either, worked out with drinks, coffees, puds, a tip etc as £35 per head. Brilliant value. Will be back soon!

Came here on the way back from Didcot. Really lovely pub. Staff very friendly. Decided to have roast dinner. They had run out of turkey so settled on chicken. Roast very tasty. Only problem we had was they forgot the pigs in blankets. Didn’t bring them out until we had nearly finished and they ended up looking undercooked and not very nice. Food served until 6pm. Would go back.

Very well cooked, straight forward, three-meat Sunday Lunch in a very pleasant environment. Really nice staff. Well kept beer and a very comprehensive wine list. Will definitely be returning. Two things keep this from being a five star review from me. The first being the piped music; I just think the dining experience would be better with out it. The second, the fact that smokers are relegated to two tables outside right by the street (a pity as they sell cigars) - but these are personal things; don't let my idiosyncrasies put you off.

My partner and I went to a wine tasting event. It was Brill! My partner had been before, to the French wines. We did the Spanish Region this time and although I'm not a wine drinker I loved it. We had 3 white, 3 red, and served a platter of cheeses, cured meats, olives etc. Which was great to try different things with different wines. Philip was great. Explained all about each wine and where it comes from. With a lot of humour thrown in. Afterwards we all stayed and Philip walked round chatting to everyone and we got to order bottles or cases of the wines we tried. All in all it was great and I will definitely be going to the new world Australian wine tasting!! See you there. Xx
