SO GOOD. My mom grew up in Burma and we visited here while we were in town - can confirm that it is authentic and delicious Burmese food. If it’s your first time and you’re unfamiliar with the menu, don’t let that stop you - I’d recommend trying their OhnNo KaukSwe, NanJee Thoke, and Nyat KaukSwe Gyaw (all featured in the photos). I just wish this place existed in Chicago! Thank you to the lovely family who owns this place for showing us so much hospitality! :) 🙏🏼 ps. right now it’s only takeout!

Great takeout! We had the beef potato curry and the pork noodle with egg and both were absolutely delicious! The samosa appetizer was nice bang for your buck and super tasty. Quick and easy, I'm definitely coming back to try more! Inside wasn't open for sit down dining so we order to-go and it was ready within 10 mins. The inside is very plain and kinda run down, but take out was fantastic. Edit: ate in the dining room for dinner with a big group and it's even better in person! The place is clearly family run with great attention to detail. Absolutely delicious! This will be a staple in the neighborhood for sure!

My favorite neighborhood spot in Silver Spring! Amazing food and large portions for a reasonable price. Huge menu but you can’t go wrong with the curry or noodles with Burmese dressing. Dishes are extremely spicy so keep that in mind when choosing mild/medium/hot. Support this local business!

Food was absolutely incredible. No wait. Staff was understanding and helpful with my questions. Also a lot of food for the price! Even going all out and getting a specialty drink, appetizer, and dessert, I still only spent $35

I love Burmese food and it is so hard to find in this area. But Mandalay is delicious and a great long time establishment. I've been coming here for over a decade and it's still a favorite spot! Some of my favorites... KaYann Thee Hin - Eggplant simmered in onion base curry with cilantro ThinnBawThee Thoke - Shredded papaya, cabbage, and onion, tossed with Burmese dressing, garnished with fried onion and carrots. Let Phet Thoke - Fermented tea leaf, tomato, and cabbage tossed with Burmese dressing, garnished with fried garlic and crispy yellow peas. (STILL MY FAVORITE!) Baya Gyaw Thoke (Gram Fritter Salad) - Gram fritter, tomato, cabbage, onion, and fresh cilantro tossed with Burmese dressing, garnished with fried onion and carrots. Tofu Ohnno Hin - Lightly fried tofu cooked with coconut cream curry. I always add the onion, green pepper and tomato. (Additional $1 - which is a tad silly if you ask me.) I've tried this curry with chicken before too, the sauce is the real winner! Burmese Samosa - Potato, onion, and green peas in spring roll wrapper and deep fried triangles. Sticky Rice Dessert - Sticky rice with brown sugar and coconut. Their steamed Jasmine rice is so good. They use a good quality of rice and it's a perfect chewy texture. IT'S LIKE CRACK! This is a great spot for vegans, vegetarians and meat eaters. So many great options for everyone. Prices are standard. Service is excellent. There is parking on the street and in public lots.

The dishes we have are mixed Indian, Viennese, and Chinese food. Ordered cilantro beef, mango pork, and potatoes chicken. The seasoning is flavorful. The pork and chicken are tender. But it is too much saltiness to my flavor. My friend actually loved the food here.

Pleased with our delivery of beef and potatoes curry, nanjee thoke (had a really nice subtle spice flavour), and shweji. Good portion sizes, everything was well packed. Would order from here again!

The food and service here have always been really good. We’ve been here several times and loved them before they closed down, so I’m very glad to see that they’ve reopened. The price is extremely reasonable for the portion, and the food is amazing. Nothing is too spicy, salty or greasy. And the service has always been very friendly and attentive. Some people have complained that the environment seems “cheap” for the price you pay, but I disagree. It’s obvious that they put attention and effort into their food and service rather than making the place fancy and uncomfortable. The whole experience is very welcoming, comforting and satisfying, I’d definitely keep coming back.

I'm so happy that this place is back. The food is excellent. Especially love the vegetarian options. Only tiny qualm is with the pricing. It's take out only, yet there's a mandatory "take out charge" with each order anyway. Then there's an additional "credit card charge" as well. If you order directly by calling, you pay higher prices than through a third party app online. Always better to have upfront pricing and I don't think being dishonest is Mandalay's intention.

Myself, wife Sandy and our dear neighbor, Celeste, went to the reopening celebration. It's been a couple of years since they were open in Silver Spring and were we happy. The food was incredible, tried a couple of new dishes and they were amazing. The Mandalay family was wonderful and we so much missed them.

The food here is stellar. I love spicy food, and they offer food that is actually spicy. Not American levels of spice. Actually spicy. Of course you can also get it not spicy, as they offer a sliding scale of spice levels. Every dish I’ve gotten here has been very delicious. They’ve got many delicious vegetarian options. Portions are large. Staff are friendly and food comes out quick. There is minimal indoor seating, so I mostly order takeout.

If you look only their food appearance, I can say they are not really attractive like Thai food, Japanese food or Vietnamese food. They look quite plain (color and the way they decorate their dish). Anyway as for the taste is different story! They did a good job especially my favorite dish is "Chicken and hot pepper curry". It is tasty and flavorful. Too bad that the restaurant location is quite busy business area and a lot of traffic so mostly I prefer take-out instead of dine-in. (but the restaurant is quite spacious and offer a few parking lots) As for service is fine, not too formal, or too casual. p.s. Because Myanmar and Thailand (I am originally from Thailand), we have border next to each other so I think some their food style is fairly the same as northern part of Thailand. But Burmese food might be more interesting as their land is sill next to China and India, so I think many of their food (noodle, curry dish) might have influenced from them more or less, then they make in Burmese style.

By far one of my favorite restaurants. I am over the moon that they’ve managed to reopen. Apparently, the family lost everything during COVID, but they’re trying again. Albeit only open for carry out right now while they save money to buy back tables and chairs and kitchen items. They had to sell everything. Thank goodness they’re back! I just had my favorite trio - pickled mango pork, curry chick peas with scallions and coconuts chicken curry. It was even better than I remembered.

Friendly bartenders that make some damn tasty cocktails, occasional great live music, delicious small plates and entrees, and a funky vibe of welcoming intimacy. Recommended!

So happy they are open again. Some of the most interesting flavor profiles of anything I have eaten. Dozens of vegetarian and vegan choices as well as plenty of options for meat eaters too.

Ordered takeout via Clover. Order was ready to go when I arrived. Have their own parking area so it's easy to run in and out. They are serious about the spice levels, so order accordingly. "Spicy" is very hot but it will not destroy you; "medium" is probably a more comfortable level for most people, giving you a good dose of heat but it's not the only thing you taste. That said, "medium" actually means different things for different dishes. The medium mixed noodles was barely spicy at all, while the medium tofu in basil sauce was quite fiery. Both were fantastic, by the way. I've eaten here many times and in my experience I don't think you can order wrong here. I've experimented with getting an extra dish of something I didn't think I would like and it was still great. The soups are all great, and the fritters are like tempura.

My friend had the Thursday special, and I had the coconut vegetable curry. The Thursday special was coconut rice and chicken. The chicken fell right off the bone and was delicious. The curry is rich and creamy, with a perfect balance of spices that enhance the natural flavors of the vegetables. Each bite is a burst of flavor, and the dish is a wonderful option for vegetarians and vegans looking for a satisfying and wholesome meal. Overall, Mandalay Restaurant & Cafe impresses with its homey atmosphere and delightful dishes. Whether you're craving a hearty chicken dish or a fragrant curry, this restaurant is sure to leave you satisfied and eager to return for more.

We ordered the green tea leaf salad, shrimp coconut curry, noodles with pork, and the Sunday chicken special - first time trying Burmese food so we went with their recommendations and loved everything. Service is exceptional and quick. Also they threw in a free dessert. Plus there is on-site parking.

We've been going to Mandalay for many years and always enjoy the food. Beware, they are generous with the spice. Medium packs quite the kick for me, but others in our party opted for mild. Sadly, dining in is not currently an option. I do hope they bring back the tables and chairs soon (& reopen the bar as the drinks were fantastic!). For those wondering, our vegan friend also loves this place!

Come eat here! Food is delicious and reasonably priced. The staff is also very knowledgeable about dietary restrictions and was able to safely accommodate gluten free. Because it's so great, expect a bit of a wait for weekend dinner. The short wait is more than worth it. Look forward to continuing to visit and can't wait for them to move across the border onto DC's Upper Georgia ave

My friends and I eat here every few months as the food is always prepared excellently and everything we have eaten has been great. The tealeaf salad is not to be missed. The entrees are spiced to order. The coconut ice cream is a treat and we enjoyed eating the coconut itself as well.
