Almost
hidden
gem
of
Sukkur!
Here
be
Indus
River
Dolphins...a
highly
endangered
species
one
must
come
around
the
1st
hour
after
Sunrise
to
catch
a
glimpse
of
them.
I
first
visited
in
March
2019
then
again
twice
this
year
Aug-Sept
2021.
Be
patient
and
you
will
suddenly
see
them
rising
for
air
and
the
humps
of
their
backs
quickly
surfacing
then
disappearing.
We
had
about
8-10
sightings
within
20
minutes...
Across
the
River
there
are
trees
with
enormous
bats.
I
videod
a
midair
meeting
of
one
them
with
a
Hawk.
The
hawk
backed
off.
Mongoose
teaching
their
young
snake
hunting
in
the
rocks.
The
Indus
River
itself
was
flowing
swiftly
as
various
birds
rested
on
floating
islands
of
natural
debris.
River
looks
clean
overall
yet
my
August
visit
was
during
a
Covid
Vax
drive
and
sadly
hundreds
of
empty
Vaccine
boxes
were
scattered
all
over
the
river
bank.
Cant
blame
covid
for
that...
With
all
the
global
hue
and
cry
about
the
environment,
here
we
have
a
near
extinct
species
the
blind
Indus
river
dolphin,
yet
there
is
absolutely
no
obvious
effective
effort
to
study
them
help
them
or
even
save
them.
I
know
this
from
1st
hand
observation
combined
with
the
fact
that
while
I
was
there
a
Pakistani
high
court
judge
issued
a
public
declaration
condeming
the
Sindh
Government
neglect
of
this
species.
Please
contact
the
local
authorities
and
urge
them
to
continue
their
efforts
to
save
the
Indus
River
Dolphin.
