A very informative place to visit. There are a lot of historical pieces of furniture and also the history of the house has been well documented. The lush gardens on The Brisbane River are also a delight.

Newstead House According to history, this house was built in 1846 located On the northern bank of the Brisbane River at Breakfast Creek. It is the oldest surviving home in Brisbane. It is now a museum, open to public. They have weddings, concerts, high tea but currently it is temporary close. Visitors can enjoy its beautiful surroundings, it’s a lovely place to have a walk, or a picnic.

Newstead House was the residence of Govenor in past times. It has ben restored to its former glory. The decor is colonial as is the furniture. There is a fantastic view of the river and surroundings. We had very lovely lady as our guide, sh ws very knowledgeable of th house and its history. It is definitely orth a visit. I am sorry but I cannot remembr our guides name. She was an absolutely lovely lady and gave as much time to my family a we reuired to see the house n contents. She even took us to th lower ground floor, which containe the kitchen and pantry. We had a great time being shown round.

Great heritage museum. The tour is highly recommended. The guide that we have is very knowledgeable about the place. Also recommend to explore the gardens and its surroundings. Take a walk down to the river banks.

Newstead house has a lot of history about the the house and the grounds. The grounds are immaculate and perfect which I think is very good. Inside the house their is a lot of history to get your head around but how the house is setup it is perfect. The house and grounds are beautiful in every way. But their is only one problem their is not enough parking and even when their is the driveway is too small and it is hard to park and if you park on the street you have to pay😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩. Other than that the grounds are immaculate and they are beautiful. Good job keeping the grounds beautiful you should be proud😊😊

Great spot for a picnic and views of the Brisbane river

  • 4/5 Sylvester T. 5 years ago on Google
Nice park by the river and all these cool night light features. It feels a bit quiet though at night so best not to go alone. Otherwise during the day it is very family friendly and a very open park but it fills up pretty fast on a weekend picnic scene

Beautiful location on a bend in the river giving expansive views. Great spot for a picnic (or a wedding!) with lush grassy areas, shaded areas, easy to get to by bike. Some limited parking nearby. The House is definitely worth visiting. Make sure you join in on a tour with a volunteer guide. There’s some really interesting history with significant visitors along the way. Look out for the ‘Lucinda’ chair - it’s providence is linked to Australia’s Constitution!

Good small park to come and enjoy the river. There are a few tables but no bbq, excellent spot for picnics. Sunsets are great and normally with a nice breeze from the coast. Pedestrian/bikeway are at both ends connecting the park to Hamilton or to the city and toowong. No Citycycle station available.

I am a direct descendant of the Leslie Brothers, through my Mother, my Mother brought me here for my Birthday years ago, I would like to know why this is closed temporarily? Please, I would also like to know whom to speak with regarding this beautiful Historical home. Thank you Mrs. Tonianne O’Brien.

High tea for Mothers Day was lovely at this grand old girl. Outlook, gardens and a touch of history made it the perfect outing for Mum.

It was a fun visit, although our volunteer guide could have been better trained. Without a free guided tour (limited times offered), the entry fee is quite expensive. Parking was easy and the gardens enjoyable.

A lovely park, with interesting features, beautifully maintained and right by the river. We had a picnic lunch by the river, played croquet, and got caught in a sun-shower late afternoon. A beautiful spot to visit overall.
