Are there new owners or something?! I used to rate the food very highly but the rump steak was bad. Chewy, had to eat around the fat/gristle, and not cheap. Wouldn’t jump to a bad review except our neighbour had the same report from last week.

Had dinner here. Local. The menu was very limiting for a vegetarian. One entree but it has avocado in it and I’m allergic and one main pasta. Nothing else. The gnocchi was really tasty and well cooked but over seasoned so I could only eat half of it. All 4 meals were well portioned. The stand out was definitely how attentive the staff are. The best service around!

I don't like posting negative reviews but I am disappointed by what has happened to our beloved local. Regular patrons for 7 years. But now under new management and chef it feels like there are budget cuts which are affecting the quality of the food. $42 porterhouse with frozen store bought chips (previously hand cut) and what seems to be bulk buy mustard (previously better quality). Not to mention the one thing that made the Plough famous - the Ale pudding - has unbelievably been taken off the menu! What!? For the price, it's no longer worth it. Who pays $42 for an over cooked steak and undercooked chips with Mcdonalds American mustard? The staff are still great but the chef and management need to take a hard look at what they're doing.

Great local with craft beer and wine. Their themed nights also very good value. Food is also delicious with lots of rotating specials. The staff are friendly and welcoming.

Staying for a week for the Avalon Airshow. Twin bed room, clean and tidy. Suits our needs. Air-conditioned. On corner of busy road but window double glazed and sound of traffic muted, noise did not affect sleep. Music from downstairs in bar a bit noisy but I believe will finish at 2200hrs. Had dinner in bar. Steak night Tuesday. Both steaks cooked exactly as asked and delicious. Reasonably priced accomodation. 24 stairs to get to rooms, no lift.

Delicious set course meal for Mothers Day. Place was packed and staff and service was excellent as was the food. Great selection of local independent craft beers on tap to try as well. Highly recommend this Hotel!

My wife and I were super satisfied with our experience at the Plough Hotel. Tina, Pete and Kat we're extremely accommodating and helpful with our requests for our Wedding celebration. That Barkly room was a great space to share a meal with our loved ones. The food was an absolute highlight with many guests complimenting the quality and portions of the dishes included with the 2 course meal. We loved the pork belly, rump and roast pumpkin in particular. The service was also really good with great customer service provided. We would recommend this venue for a casual meal but also for functions/events. Thanks to the team at the Plough Hotel for letting us celebrate our wedding.

The schnitzel was top notch. The crumb batter was not too thick, and the chicken was decently moist. Chips were crispy and well seasoned with salt. Salad was well dressed no wilted yuck parts at all. And the gravy was def home made I wish you got more of it for all the chips they give you.

Excellent venue for a classic pub meal. Staff were friendly, attentive and efficient. Took off a star due to the bad acoustics in the dining area which made conversations with my fellow diners (as well as staff) quite difficult. Otherwise a great experience.

The rooms were exceptionally clean and comfortable, the staff were amazing especially Lynette & Paisley, who went above and beyond to make our stay fabulous. Location was close to train and bus, short trip to major shopping centre. Would highly recommend as all staff were very friendly.

Food was good but needs more seasoning.Service was alright. It was just so incredibly noisy. With the flooring, the noise just travels through that place. Want a dinner for 2 without wanting to struggle to hear one another? Perhaps find an alternative

We were looking for a casual venue which offered a variety of meals other than just your standard pub bistro meals for our son’s 21st lunch time gathering. We started with several entree’s which were shared and ordered foccacias as well for starters. We then ordered our mains which were plentiful. My beef cheeks meal was super delicious. All meals came out promptly as well - considering they had other functions on. All staff were super friendly and attentive to our groups orders and requests. What swayed me to book there was that they were very obliging when I first enquired about guests with allergies. This was our first visit at The Plough and are glad to say we have now found our go to venue when next dining out. I have worked in hospitality and I am quite particular of service and presentation. The Plough certainly made my son’s 21st gathering a delightful experience.

First time trying the Plough… I can safely say that they have taken their reviews of “poor service” onboard as we had terrific customer service from the moment we arrived. Service can make or break you no matter how good the food is ! They are very child friendly and straight away brought a kids menu, pencils, paper and high chair to our table. Food was magnificent, very generous servings, great kids menu and nothing was a bother, we were made to feel very relaxed which is great, especially with kids as it can be stressful at times ! Only odd thing was when I ordered my son a fruit juice from the kids menu they went to charge me a different price from the menu and when I asked the wait person said “the price went up” ??? I found that an odd comment ! But it got sorted and I was charged the correct price. Slip ups happen ! Keep up the great customer service and food and we will keep coming back ! PS, the serving side of the very delicious gravy does need to be a little bigger as it only just covered my delicious schnitzel and I had nothing for the chips !

Dined here for the first time and was a very pleasant experience. Upmarket menu (and upmarket prices) but good selection of quality dishes. Steaks were cooked well and offering a large selections of mustard was a nice touch. The seafood linguine was very well balanced and the ingredients tasted quality. Wine list was solid and overall service was friendly and efficient. Would recommend if you're up for a gastropub meal and don't mind paying a little more.

The food & service was fantastic. Two of our guests had the “steak night” steaks, delicious I’m told, while I had the beautiful gnocchi! I also enjoyed the Footscray gin cocktail. We will be back. This was a dinner for my birthday so thanks for making it memorable. Ngaire

We had a family dinner celebrating my brothers birthday, and it was a really disappointing experience unfortunately. We waited an hour for our food to arrive, including what should have been very quick starters. Those who ordered the classic pub meals were satisfied, but I had the Portuguese fish stew which was small, very plain and very overpriced. Do not recommend. They did take an entree off the bill but it didn’t make up for a bad experience. We won’t be back.

Great place for dinner, excellent service. Only gripe was my steak that was ordered as medium rare cane back slightly burnt. But willing too pop by again

We had our sons first birthday at the Plough Hotel and honestly it was the best experience! The planning with the bistro manager, Kat, was so easy, she was flexible as our numbers kept changing and went out of her way to ensure everything was to our liking. She was also fantastic on the day! The food was great, the atmosphere was great and they even let us decorate!! Would definitely recommend to anyone looking to host a function or even just have a few drinks! Would give it 10 stars if I could!! Thanks Kat and team!!!🤗🤗

A really good experience all around. While the staff are relaxed, they are all very competent and friendly, and obviously work well as a team. Our accommodation was comfortable - couldn't fault it in any way whatsoever. But the meals were the absolute highlight!! Due to a garlic allergy, without any hesitation the cook altered our meals to suit. That was so much appreciated!! Recommendations? The Mexican pizza was sublime, and the seafood linguine was absolute first class. Both were plate-licking delicious!! Many thanks Plough Hotel. You do it well!

Stayed for 1 night for business purpose. Location is good, close to city and close to bus stop. Hall way is dark and narrow, table in the room is so old and peeling off. Ac was good, toilet was clean. If you are looking for fancy hotel, this is not. It's old building and old style hotel. There is a pub downstairs, you can have drink and breakfast.

We went with some friends on Tuesday for the steak night, and even though we have heard very good things about this place it was just alright.. we order 4 steaks and the consistency just wasn’t there. One of the steaks was really overcooked which they recooked upon request. The ambience is good and the service was very good as well, but the food could have been definitely better.

I stayed and ate here: The room is basic but comfortable. What worried me the most was the noise. But it was quite as. Yes you can hear music but faintly. The pub is directly below. The old lady was friendly and attentive to the guests needs. There is even a laundry room for me to do a quick clean with a dryer. The showerhead needs replacing though, and the soap bottle is hard to distinguish to the shampoo. The TV isn't working either. No fuss for me though. They have private compound for cars, gated but not used. They take their gastro offers seriously. I expressed my surprise that the steak was $54. The mid age bar staff man was ready to justify it with conviction. You can see in his face. Not rude but serious. In fact their whole staff moves like coordinated, well disciplined and trained units. They must have taken care of their staff. I had the chicken wing entree. I could not believe the portion size. And it's well made. Bloody good.

I visited here on a sunday lunch for a family gathering. I had the chicken Parma and chips. It was served quickly and arrived hot. The staff were friendly and the place was clean. The beer selection was not great , could do with a little more of a selection.

We hosted our 40 person function in the Barkly Room in April 2021 and it was amazing. The room was beautiful so required minimal styling, allowing us to spend more on the delicious food & wine! The functions team were so helpful in the lead up to the event, and the venue staff on the day were delightful. They made the day so easy and enjoyable. Will definitely be returning for another event in the future! All our guests raved about the venue and the food.

The food and service at the Plough are consistently excellent. I had the ricotta gnocchi today and a beautiful barramundi special last week. The staff here are fantastic - professional, friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable. So lucky to have this venue as our local.

We came for dinner and to watch the soccer, with 6 people. We had originally booked for 4, and when I rang to increase the number at the last minute, staff were very accommodating despite being pretty booked out. The service was very good, and the food was superb.

Got the mexican pizza today and it was ordinary. I compare it was a frozen pizza. Would have been better at dominoes. The pizza lacked taste, looked plain and the centre of the pizza was soggy in the middle by the time i finished. Disappointed for a $24 pizza. Service was great and the place looked smick. Just need good food.

I am an avid traveller and my rule for reviewing accommodations is that I should stay there at least twice, so that I can review their consistency. I have stayed at the Plough Hotel more than twice and is my go to whenever I'm in West Footscray for work. The check-in and out process is smooth. The rooms are always clean. The noise level has also been minimal, which is surprising, being above a bar/restaurant and on a busy street. The restaurant is great. The food is always delicious and it's always a perk to be able to take food up to your room, although you can't charge the food to your room. The location is also really good and only a short walk to other restaurants in the area. One negative is the parking. It's small and cramp. I would love to see it expand somehow. Another negative would be the water pressure in the shower. Not as great as I'd like. Overall, I do recommend staying here for a short stay.

First time eating here we tried the $25 steak special with chips and salad on a Tuesday. It was not bad but could have been better if it came with a delicious sauce. I would choose the $20 steak on Wednesdays at Mona Castle in Seddon. We also tried the classic Parma for $19 on Thursday nights. The portion was decent and it came with chips and salad. I will say the chicken is not as juicy as other places such as the Parma at The Cheeky Pint down the road on Barkly St. Overall service is good here and the waiter at the bar was very efficient and had great customer service.

We had a work dinner for 12 people, every single person said their meal was delicious and plans to go back with family, partners or friends. I love introducing new punters to locals in my area and the team at The Plough did not let me down! The seafood linguine us delicious and yes, the wine is also very nice.

The Plough has been our go-to for many years, & it has been wonderful easing back in again post covid... we love the family vibe, very helpful staff, welcoming ambience, & broad menu. The Plough doesn't pretend to be anything it isn't, and that goes for Footscray too! The Plough is a long-beloved local tradition & landmark that features in my memories of Footscray through to early childhood. Service us always so helpful. Our menu favourites include the pork and truffle oil pizza, & the ever-pleasing steamed ale pudding. Week nights they offer special menus, and Sundays the classic roast. I'll always be a Plough Girl :) 😊😊😊

Absolutely smashing evening. So easy to deal with the staff in the lead up to our function in the Barkly Room. Elsa was great to communicate with and so responsive and kind. The staff on the night were lovely and did their best! My only critique would be that the sound system didn't play as loud as we'd hoped to start a dance floor. The sounds of the crowd drowned out the music. So happy overall and had a special night. Good on you, Plough team!

Have been here 3 times in the past month and all 3 times we enjoyed everything about this place. The staff are so bubbly and friendly. Food is divine. Used to come here every week before covid and after covid the quality of the food dropped a lot. Didnt come here for a good 2 years and decided to try it out again and honestly im so glad i did! Portion sizes are so big you get what you pay for!

It was my 3rd time to this place previous experiences was good, this time round we ordered garlic bread with cheese & chicken wings for entree. But was disappointed with the chicken wings only 3 mini wings for $14!! Parma & steak was good, but the confit duck was small in size. As we were seated at the bar area, most services are self service.

Brilliant food, venue and service today for my function in the Barkly Room. The food here never disappoints but today it was especially amazing, and we received many complimentary comments from our guests. The team did SUCH a good job making sure everyone was well looked after last night during the FIFA Semi finals. I was so impressed by their attentiveness, calm staff and smiley faces throughout the whole BUSY night. Decor/interior wise, this Hotel pub is gorgeous! Tidy, stylish, great open space and also lots of little dining areas if you've got a small group or visiting solo. Great job guys :)

Every time we go to the Plough to eat it gets better and better. It’s my first stop when I’m down from Sydney, but the star ⭐️ of the show is definitely Zac…. not only the nicest guy you’d ever meet, but the hospitality and service he brings to the Plough is exceptional. Zac is a credit to an already great place. I can’t wait to get back

Celebrated a birthday dinner at the pub on Friday night. The food was great, the vibe of the place was very pleasant. Their service was impeccable especially the person who looked after us- shame I didn’t get a chance to get her name. She was very professional yet very warm and attentive. She definitely made our experience so much better, we were very looked after!! Thanks Plough Hotel team!

Food was great with large servings. Food waitress was efficient and friendly with a quirky Dutch accent. It would have been good to sit in the Courtyard but the seats don’t have a back on them, making them feel unsafe. Overall a good experience ❤️❤️❤️

The meal we had at the Plough Hotel was lovely. Good food, service, and friendly, helpful staff, nice setting. Kat and her staff were great. Meals were not too big, but certainly big enough, hot and good flavor. Would highly recommend it.
