Massive sprawling parklands and grassland area so close to Melbourne CBD. These gardens seem to go on and on. In some respects, the park is not particularly flashy, but on tthe other hand they are one of Melbourne's best kept secrets - offering an escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. Right near the Zoo, University of Melbourne and the Royal Children's Hospital. Accessible via tram, but best enjoyed on foot.

I had the pleasure of visiting the Royal Park in Melbourne recently and it was an unforgettable experience. The park is absolutely stunning and the scenery is breathtaking. The scenery was filled with lush green trees, beautiful flowers, and vibrant wildlife. I enjoyed taking a leisurely stroll through the park, admiring all of the different trees and plants. The park also has many wonderful attractions, such as a large lake, playgrounds, and picnic areas. The atmosphere was peaceful and relaxing, and I could really take the time to appreciate the beauty of nature. The park is also conveniently located, making it easy to access. All in all, I had a wonderful time at Royal Park and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful, relaxing escape.

2021 - There's no more bunnies... :( Still a great sunset spot. See ya later 2021. 2012 - If you're a fan of bunny rabbits, there's plenty roaming about in this gigantic playground.

Royal park is one of the most beautiful park I have visited in Melbourne. Me and my niece went there on a Saturday. We had fun together. There were a long pathway to walk. The cleanliness is also appreciable. An awesome place to sit with family, friends or even you can enjoy your own company 🌝

I’ve lived in metro Melbourne for 5 decades and other than to take our kids to the very good nature playground a couple of times I never set foot here. It didn’t draw us to visit during Covid times when we had exploration limits. It has some great native Melbourne flora and grassland patches. Needs a good cafe, lots of labelling of the notable old gums and estimates of age, wide open paths around the entire perimeter. Unsure why the wide open space in the middle is so empty? I was surprised at how big the whole park precinct is.Good to see a review of the master plan is in train…lots of hidden parts due to landscaping and visibility issues and should be brightly lit at night.

Clean park, well tended. Big enough to get away from the noise of local traffic. Park contains last remnant of natural native vegetation in Melbourne City. Also, park was used as a military base during ww2 for new recruits gathering to leave our shores. Great views of the city skyline.

This is a brilliant destination to roll down hills as there isn’t much loose grass or dog droppings everywhere. I would highly recommend having fun here! 🤩

The park is surprisingly not only very convenient for a long run, but also a photo post to stand and take photo of whole Melbourne city view. It locates just next to the heart of Melbourne city center, so if you get a hotel nearby you both have perfect facility for morning run, then step in the city for sight seeing, shopping and lunch.

A surprisingly expansive park with lots of other things to see within it. It's probably thr closest you will get to actually being in the bush without being it.

Royal Park has become one of my favourite places to be over the last two years of lockdown. It's a great place to "escape" the city.

Spacious park and very relaxing to walk in the green among the city. You can meet some cute dogs along the way or simply say hi to the people who walk by.

Wide open space with many pockets of fun. Good for the old and young. It also has a water play area that kids love, pumping up water and unblocking dams

Royal Park is where the Royal Children's Hospital used to be. It is now a beautiful park, with a large playground, sand pit, and lot and lots of trees, green grass and hills. You could very easily spend a few hours here. There are public toilets there, and a map at each of the entry points. It looks very popular, lots of families, lots of kids. Street parking that is free on the weekends.

Such lovely parks so close to home. Very lucky, lots of great work going on with projects. A fun walk and beautiful to get fresh air on an early Spring Day.

Great place to hang out in green surroundings close to the city. There's a long circular walking track that's probably half a kilometres long for long romantic walks.

Quite a substantial area of parks and green space so close to the city. Lots of opportunities for walks and generally enjoying being around nature. The area also offers children's playgrounds and dog off-leash areas.

We were married here by the lake 13 years ago. It is where we walk our dogs every weekend. It’s a wonderful space with so many different spaces to walk, so many birds and so many beautiful big trees. Dog heaven.

This park has everything! A massive beautiful hill to roll down, a wide variety of climbing structures, swings for people with mobility difficulties, places to build, places to explore, and all in a very natural setting. My 11 year old, 23 year old and I could have easily stayed for many hours. There were a lot of people there at the same time, but plenty of room for everyone! Highly recommend it.

A brilliant place to walk your dog. Nestled at a 20 minute walk from the city, offers a great area to have your dog walk along and sniff all the scents out there. Lots of drink areas along for water for you and your dog. Dogs are only allowed on the outer section of the ring, please keep that in mind

This park is a hidden gem in a lot of ways - bushland vibes on the edge of the city. Lots of lovely pockets to explore, you can spend a whole day here and still not see the whole park. Amazing sunsets across the park too. I love watching Swordplay on a Friday night, the cricket on weekends, and walking my dog. Give this park a go and you’ll find your happy place too.

A great sanctuary just a couple of steps away from Melbourne's CBD. It has a great playground which often gets crowded on the weekends. The track, on the other hand, is not too crowded, but I think the City needs to consider more bag dispenser as dog walkers tend not to pick after their dog.

  • 5/5 Martin E. 4 years ago on Google

Royal park is a fantastic place. Being not the most popular park in Melbourne has an advantage of having a lot of places without too many people around. You can walk for an hour and still see new places! Plus great place for sunsets and picnics. There are two areas where grass is maintained, others are more natural.
