This was a really cool experience and didn’t take us as long to get through everything as we thought. There’s a good mix of sports museum, history and education as well as practical activities to engage in. Worth checking out.

Awesome experience! I visited MCG lot of time to see matches. However, first time to take MCG tour. The tour guide was really good and knew so much about sports, we had great time. Tour went on over 75 mins and showed so many things in that time. If you are cricket fan it must see.

The Museum of Chinese Australian History was established in 1985 as a community-run, not-for-profit national institution to document, preserve, collect and research the history and culture of Chinese Australians and their descendants. The Museum is housed in a late nineteenth century five-level warehouse. The warehouse was built in 1890 by the Cohen Bros who were furniture manufacturers and they used this building as a factory to make furniture and also a storeroom. After the Cohen Bros moved out, it was purchased by Her Majesty’s theatre and was used for the storage of sets and costumes. During the hey-day of musical extravaganzas, it was also used as change rooms for the large choruses that were a part of these shows. The building was acquired by the Victorian government from Her Majesty’s in 1985 and is rented by the Museum for a nominal fee. When it opened its doors to the public in November 1985 it had no foundation collection and only three levels of the building had been renovated – basement, ground and first floors. The second floor was renovated in 1987 and the third floor along with the rest of the building in 1995. In 2010 renovations were made to the ground and first floors.

This is a small building located within Chinatown; four floors of historic information regarding the Chinese migration into Australia and their way of life through 200 years. Price to enter is $11 with special pricing for students, families and groups. Closes at 4pm daily. Gift shop has reasonable prices for Chinese coins, hand fans, Chinese astrological sign cards and coins, books, etc. Time through the museum is approximately two hours if you take your time.

Really cool place to visit and plenty to learn about Australia's Chinese settlers. The Millennium dragon, which is currently used during Chinese New Year - which is massive by the way - is on show here.

We only went to see the 3 Richmond premiership cups initially but where surprised at the sporting memorabilia, ended up spending a couple of hours there. Plenty of interactive displays to keep kids interested. Highly recommended as a whole family experience, caters for all generations.

Err, it's ok. The games area was good. I can't imagine how it be if it was crowded and a non Covid time. The place was continually cleaned and the staff friendly. Typical MCC. Great staff. The displays themselves I thought were a bit dull. They tried hard but it didn't do it from me. Maybe I'm not the target audience, IE a real sports nerd. I also thought that they were trying to educate me about the current politically correct behaviour.

A amazing adventure of all sports and MCG information. Make sure you go into the MCG part as it is filled with amazing stuff I never knew, about our great stadium. And the elderly gentleman in there is absolutely fascinating to talk to. It's a totally must see.

Great Experience... Unlike conventional museums this museum is different with interactive learnings and RFID scanners... Loads of information and loads of knowledge, a heaven for sports enthusiast. Recommending to each and every person visiting Melbourne. The games which are presented are also very interesting

The sports museum is absolutely fantastic. All sports are covered from athletics to Rugby League and beyond. The cricket section is brilliant and there are also interactive displays are fun and educational at the same time… the guides at the Australian Sports Museum are brilliantly knowledgeable in every sport and it was an absolute pleasure to listen the stories of sports people past and present. I spoke to Barry who was well beyond knowledgeable, who filled my tea break with sporting knowledge.. it was a joy.. Do yourself a favour and go the Australian Sports Museum…

Fantastic place to visit with the kids. The interactive play space was so fun and engaging. We could have stayed all day. The food options were limited though, but what was available was sufficient for our needs. Lovely staff everywhere, from when you first walk in and then throughout the whole museum. Thanks for making our experience that much better.

Staff very very polite and helpful. Well worth the visit.

Strangely not too busy here in January school holidays. Good mix of displays and interactive exhibits to satisfy young and old. Matchday experiences for the kids (and parents!) are well worth the extra few dollars. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff on hand as well. We spent more time here than we thought we would. Highly recommended.

  • 5/5 Richard T. 4 years ago on Google
An immersive, multi media, museum with excellent coverage of sporting prowess and achievements. The museum is open on game days only up until the game begins. There is plenty of information and articles to keep even the mediocre sports fan pursuing for hours. You can see how fast a race horse heart pumps or compare you batting technique against the legendary Sir Don Bradman. Staff are very helpful with insight into the vast collection and always available for a query. Access is via the MCG gate 3 entrance and once inside gate 3 you will immediately see the “National Sports Museum” ticket office.

Another cultural institution in Melbourne city with a fairly good display of the artifacts and lives of Chinese immigrants early during the gold rush. The museum has a close connection with the Chinese communities in and out of Victoria and arranges Dragon dance every year for big festivals. It can be an option to visit if on trip to Melbourne and have done others.

A very interesting find hidden away in chinatown. The staff here are amazing. You start on the top floor and work you way down to the basement. This museum tells of a brief Chinese history lesson then the history of the Chinese community in Melbourne

  • 3/5 Paul G. 6 years ago on Google
A brick-a-brack museum with a few interesting exhibits. The basement is the most interesting, picturing the olden days of the gold rush. And of course the impressive dragon. They give senior citizen entry without an Australian concession card. Saves you Aus$ 2.

  • 4/5 Justan K. 5 years ago on Google
Great little museum about the history of chinese immigration to australia. Highly recommend to anyone interested in the subject or with an interest in australian history.

  • 3/5 Bienne T. 5 years ago on Google
This place was set up like a Charity organization without giving deep thoughts and plans about what and how to present historical information to the public. The very selective fragmented collection can confuse people rather than create interest and educate young and old what history does for humanity. If you do not have any background understanding of Chinese History from begining to end, you will not get to the truth via this poorly equipped museum. The poor professional standards of running a museum can be seen everywhere inside. It is very hard to convince the public to pay for entry unless you are fooled by it. I wish I could take over and lift the quality standards to be like Canberra or Jewish Museum in Caulfield.

The four level museum is well worth a visit! The second floor with its Han Dynasty relics, including a terracotta warrior and Jade burial suit and gorgeous fun pottery sculptures of houses and animals and everyday life is good fun. And the basement is wonderful - gold rush, interactive, fortune telling, dress ups, dioramas and a lil tunnel. So cool and the kids were very interested! The processional Dragon and assorted other fun animals are beautiful and fun to see up close. Recommended!

Overall, it was a great tour; a number of people in our group were disappointed to find out into the tour that the change rooms were not included due to a fire drill . The guy running the tour was really upset, not saying, " Ah well gotta keep moving on ." This could have been easily noted on the website when purchasing tickets . I left home 8am and got back at 3pm and only went to the G for the tour and museum . The change rooms were something I was looking forward to now need to go again . Poor form MCG tours .

Great mix of entertaining and informative exhibits. We loved the interactive voting, the touch screens and the sports games at the end. Acknowledging the MCC exhibit is targeted a bit older but it could really use a shot in the arm. The sports games based on touching the screens are lacking standards to make them fair (even if only competing against ourselves).

Private tour of the MCG including the Australian Sports Museum. What an experience! This is the top shelf tour offered at the MCG and it was worth every cent. We were shown around the inner sanctums of the MCG including the cricket club private rooms, player change rooms, media areas and were able to stand in the centre of the oval to take in the view. Other tours don’t have this access. Our tour guide Carol was a star performer. She’s a volunteer (like all guides) and really made the experience special. The tour price includes entrance to the Australian Sports Museum. For cricket fans there’s a particularly great 11 minute life size hologram performance by Shane Warne talking about his life and career. The producers would’ve had no idea how quickly this would become so valuable.

Museum and History of sport were fantastic. Very disappointed with the activities. My wife and I visited the museum back in 2016 and it was fantastic. They represented a large variety of sports and it was competitive. From footy though to rugby, cricket ,netball ,basketball ,archery etc...etc... a lot to do. We could not wait to take our kids to experience the fun packed activities and competition. We took them last week and were extremely disappointed! The MCG took away the competitiveness - because sport is not competitive? Most of the activities were fruitless and probably aimed at toddlers at a guess... Will not recommend anyone to waist their time this time around, previously I was actively encouraging people to visit the MCG.

Simply fabulous, whether you're into sports or not. There's everything, but the most incredible thing I've ever seen, was the Shane Warne hologram where he talks to you. It's absolutely amazing. Well done to the MCG people who did this. Thanks.

An experience of a life time! Standing on these grounds and holding the banner - top it off with ABz winning 🤷🏽‍♀️

What a great way to kick off the school holidays with the kids. An interactive experience for people of all ages. The kids really enjoyed the sports history and engaged with play-based sporting activities.

It's one of our favourite places for years. Although after the redevelopment, I have to say it's gone backwards. Used to be 5 star, now only 4 star unfortunately. They seem to have taken a large part of the AFL history out and replaced it with things that are uninteresting... why ? The interactive zone is ok, but really only for little kids, again it was better prior to the redevelopment.

If you are taking MCG tour along with the museum, then its worth. Just the museum is okay okay!
