The burgers are so good we went there 2 days in a row! Meat is high quality. Fresh ingredients. 5-8 Club and Matt’s Bar in Minneapolis get beat by Anchor easily. Those WERE my favorite places, but not anymore. Here’s the deal, know what you’re getting before you walk in the place! Don’t be annoying and ask 100 questions. They have limited staff. Consider this before you go: 1. Staff answering the phone during busy times is not going to happen, so don’t be that jerk on here that wrote a bad review because of that. 2. Staff shouldn’t have to explain everything to you if you’re new to the place. Yes, they can but they’re busy, Ok! Use the website or these reviews and/or other sources. This is not 1826. There’s information available nowadays. 3. They don’t accept credit cards or checks! 4. This is a legit and wonderful dive bar. Relax your high horse (Edina/Beverly Hills) ways before you enter the place, so don’t expect people kissing your behind and attending to your every need, every second. 5. The place has limited but very nice staff. Be patient with them, they will get to you. 6. Seating is first come first serve. It’s on YOU to find a seat or table, NOT the bar staff!

A must visit in Superior. Great mushroom Swiss burger and superb fresh cut French fries, crispy and hot. Anchor never disappoints! The place is classic, rife with Antiquities befitting any good flea market. Love the atmosphere and the wait staff. You won't be disappointed if your looking for a great sandwich and a cold drink.

Dive bar? Not really! The staff and burgers are amazing. We had two beers and two burgers (huge) with fries for under $25. Great place with great food. Unbelievable prices.

We came here because this place was on Diners, Drive-ins, and Drives. I love the ambiance of this place. Lots of memorabilia. They are well known for their burgers. The seating is open. You sit as there are tables open. We didn't have a long wait especially going in there on a Saturday lunch rush. Everyone seemed like they were having a good time. The server was extremely nice! I would come back here just for him. I ordered the cheeseburger with fries. $1.25 wasn't that much to substitute for fries. It's definitely worth the price! I gotta say that the cheeseburger was so so. It wasn't what I had expected being on a show like triple D. I was expecting wow and whoa! The burger is what you would expect from a dive in. I loved that you had an option for fried or raw onions. It should be like that from all burger joints. There wasn't much flavor in the burger. I honestly loved the fries more than the burger. I heard the buns were also supposed to be just amazing and fluffy. They were soft, but day or days old. They were soft to touch, but when eating them they were a bit chewy. This is my personal opinion, but I wouldn't come back. I loved the environment and looking at everything at the restaurant. Big ups to the server and he was so attentive! Too bad about the bland food though. Bummer, but worth the experience of a triple D place.

Fantastic burgers! This place was amazing. Our cab driver told us this was one of the best burgers in Duluth so we had to try it out. My son and I both got burgers and fries and ate every single scrap of food they put in front of us. French fries were good not great but the meat, bread and quality of the preparation were all fantastic The only negative, small inconvenience, is that they only take cash and the ATM in the bar was busted. The extra few minutes was not even a problem.

Still the best burger in the region, at the best price. Great hand cut fries, efficient friendly service. Worth the trip across the bridge if you're in Duluth.

THEE BEST PLACE AROUND FOR A DELICIOUS BURGER AND FRIES!!! Fresh meat daily, and homemade fries made right there. So glad we stopped in. The waitresses were so friendly, they all checked on us to see if we needed anything. Never had to wait for anything even though it was very busy. EXCELLENT SERVICE! And you can't beat the prices. Will definitely come back. ❤

Food was simple but delicious. Portion was a tad small, but prices were very low. Burger was delicious. Only accept cash and no card, so be prepared for that. Cool spot though!

Unique, lots of odds n ends, history, great food, fun games (pac man donkey Kong machine, slot machines), good music (digital jukebox), social atmosphere no reservations (seat yourself) and great pricing (menu price includes tax). Check out the photo of the back of the menu with helpful information to know. Fresh French fries. Building is small but worth the wait.

The atmosphere was very unique and fun, our waitress was very nice and accommodating, its a small place so it fills up fast, the bloody marys are delicious and not to spicy and the ruebenburger was absolutely delicious but could have used a lil more sourkrout so if you want a lil more ask for extra. Loved this place!

Yeah, it's good. Service was a little rushed at first, but better that than an hour later. Cashew cheesburgers with sautéed onions and french fries, delish. Did not know that whole cashews on a hamburg could be so tasty. Beer was a great price and many offerings. We were hungry and worth coming on our 🚐 travels. Cash or check only.

It lives up to the show that inspired us to go here. Diners drive inns and dives. So this the second restaurant that we have visited from the TV show. The frist was the Shed in Mississippi and that was a bust as well. I have eaten at a lot of restaurants (worked as a fountain installer for Pepsi)lot of food. So back to this. The burgers are fresh and hot. Nice home made fries. Now for me the service was not that good. But she might have been having a bad day for i know. I had to go find a chair to sit on. Was kinda busy that day. Overall not to bad. I have experienced it and done. If you are near the place go check it out for your self. Lots of things to look at.

I love the Anchor. I went there all the time when I lived in the Duluth area. Now I dream about the olive burger with bacon. I get one every time I am back. So much to look at too! LOVE it!

Awesome place to get a burger. Make sure you are hungry because they are huge. Prices are ridiculously low. Seating can be a challenge so be patient, it is worth it. Service was excellent and liquor prices are also reasonable. We stop whenever possible.

What an unfortunately poor experience we had this evening. We arrived at 6:20 to an open table, we sat there until 6:45 and not a single interaction with staff in that time, even with hands raised and waitresses delivering to tables on each side of us. We only were addressed because both tables beside us felt bad and grabbed the bartender to let her know we haven't yet been helped for over 20 minutes. The bartender proceeded to tell us how we weren't her problem, that we would have to wait longer, and that the waitress who was supposed to help us left to go get Ice-cream in the middle of her shift. We left without ordering, very disappointing from a usually wonderful bar.

Great food, good service, excellent prices. Cash only. Wonderful evening meal.

Saw the reviews and thought we'd give it a try. You will NOT find better food at even twice the price. Family of three well fed at 23.50. My daughter watched a fresh potato become cut fries and go out on a plate in less than 5 minutes. You need to get the fries. I don't get to Superior often, but when I do, I'm going here.

TL;DR: Anchor Bar & Grill was a very unique experience of good food, decent service, fantastic pricing, and very quirky decor. Firstly, they don't take credit card so come with cash on hand. That said, their pricing includes tax and the cost of food is very reasonable; whatever disadvantage one might find with paying by cash they've taken into consideration. Service was initially pretty quick I got seated and within about 10 minutes got my order taken, and got food within another 15 minutes. The decor was really interesting, though very cluttered to the point where you had the odd booths that were hard to access or hidden away. Seems to work for them though and it didn't affect service, and gives you a lot to look at other than your phone if you're dining solo. Food: Burger was overall very good; the bacon was thick cut and crispy (hard to find a place that can do both well in my experience), the patty was hand-formed and overall wonderful, and came with a toasted bun that worked well with all the flavors. Fries had a good flavor but were soft and had no crisp to them at all; not my favorite, but good overall. Value: This is where Anchor Bar and Grill really excels, all the above (plus an ice tea) for under $10 before tip, which is a value that's difficult to come by these days.

Loved my food. Service was a little slow to start, but once the food order was placed, food was delivered to the table within 5 minutes. More likely less than that. Can NOT complain. I am more than happy to patiently wait for amazing food! Just worth it. *This restaurant does not accept credit/debit cards. So just make sure you have cash. There is a working ATM in the bar. Just be aware.

Really cool place in Superior. Great atmosphere inside and extremely wonderful prices. For under 10 bucks, I got a side of fries and the Galley Buster, which is a 3 paddy burger, totaling a pound of meat. The fries were really good and the burger got the job done. They had a nice selection of beers which also were priced well.
