From Pasar trivindu, we made our way, we basically walked to Mangkunegaran Palace. Plastic bag given for putting our shoes and we carrying it throughout the palace, while at the same time, listening and following the local guide provided by Mangkunegaran Palace. Mangkunegaran Palace? Alright. No questions and no two ways about it. Impressive combination of traditional Javanese architecture and European influence interior and Palace? Palace, any palace for the matter, should hold many, many years history (Copenhagen & Kochi)? You are right and we trying our utmost best in digesting the facts narrated by the guide, or shall I say after some time, listening didn’t matter. Mangkunegaran Palace, also known as Pura Mangkunegaran Palace, dating from 1757, and still accommodating the royal family till this day, was built through a long history under the rule of Mangkunegaran I and do I have to say that housing the royal family collection and all things correlated? These collection can be seen in the royal halls, in each section, as well as along the corridors leading in and out of the courtyards and garden. Honestly guys, given a choice, I would have skipped Mangkunegaran Palace because I doubt it would have been a major lost to my travelling gram. Then again? What should I say? Mangkunegaran Palace listed as a must explore and must do in Solo?

I shall not forget my visit here. It's a real castle with ambience of grandpa's house in it. I wish i came in the morning but noon works great too. Truly one should come when they are in solo. Thank you so much

The palace was built over 200 years ago. They still maintain the palace quite well. Very nicely done up garden. Beautiful marble floors. There's a shop inside the palace selling t-shirt, batik, souvenirs, etc. It is still the official palace welcoming dignitaries for meeting. Ample carpark space. To visit the palace, tourist have to pay 50000 IDR. Every visitors will be provided with a guide so that they can explain the history of the palace and the area.

i think this is a great experience where you can have lunch or dine with fams or friends. we do reservations in advance. 1 person must spend minimum 100k idr (1 main menu and 1 drink) and do have a polite dress there. because they have a very beautiful garden where we can took pic.

I came here by running as it was raining outside. Fortunately Mangkunegaran Palace was easy to spot as it is not closed by any 'beteng' or thick wall. 3 of us needed to pay for 20k rupiahs each to get into the museum and the Palace itself. We were given an Indonesian tour guide who's doing her schoolwork (we needed to pay her by ourselves too). The Palace is not as wide as Yogyakarta Palace (perhaps because of it's administration status which is a Kadipaten, not a Kasultanan/Kasunanan). Nevertheless, it was a nice space with beautiful garden and history in the city and quiet, which make me want to just sleep there. Long last the newest Adipati.

It is the palace of the kingdom in Surakarta. The entrance fee for foreigners is RP 50k and the guide will tell you various things. The guide was very friendly and explained many things well. Have you ever wondered why surakarata is called solo? You will know once you come here.

The historical and cultural landscapes of Mangkunegaran Palace are being served very elegantly. The cultural landscape services from generation to generation are presented conventionally as there are no innovative to show those artifacts and traditions to young generation. Should be provided modern improvement for attracting young people to visit here. Landscape Regards, Devoting Professional!!!!

A place where we can interact with a piece of Javanese history from tangible artifacts of Mangkunegaran possessions. The palace has super friendly tour guides and well preserved literature collections in the library. You'll have a nice day of visit.

Quiet & well-maintained palace located at the heart of Solo. Not far from the station, really easy to get here by walk, becak, or online taxi apps. The tickets also very affordable. Rp20.000 for domestic tourist, and Rp40.000 for international tourist. For that price, you will have a guide that will tell you everything about the palace. You can give tip whatever you like to the guide.

Worth the visit. Well preserved palace. Not so big so won't get you tired. There's a dance every Thursday afternoon, except during ramadhan. You will be lent a sarong to cover your short outfit. And there's a guide provided to tell the history and the rule to enter the palace.

The front yard of the palace is not really that interesting. But when you pass the main gate and look to your right (east) you'll see an old building with signs of '1874' and 'Kavallerie-Artillerie' written on its frontal side. Maybe this building is the headquarters of the famous Legiun Mangkunegaran? Or just an ordinary Dutch garrison I guess. The inside of the palace, however, is quite grandeur and somewhat a combination of Javanese-European architecture. Perhaps Pura Mangkunegaran is the most European looking palace of the four palaces in the Vorstenlanden area (Yogyakarta-Surakarta-Mangkunegara-Paku Alam). And also I think it's because the current state of the palace complex were built in 1866, hence the '1866' written under the Mangkunegara coat of arms at the entrance to the inner pavilion (Pendopo Dalem) to denote the creation or renovation of the palace. Mangkunegara as an institution was founded around 1757 as a result of the Treaty of Giyanti in 1755 that divided Mataram Sultanate into two monarchies (Yogyakarta and Surakarta). Mangkunegara was once a territory of Surakarta. Mangkunegara (if I recall correctly) holds a power and influence similar to that of a duke in English monarchy. It's in the same status with Paku Alam which founded in 1813 from Yogyakarta. Nowadays, Mangkunegara along with Surakarta only holds symbolic and cultural influence on Java as a result of a social movement that demands the abolition of monarchy across the country in the period of Indonesian National Revolution (1945-1949). While Yogyakarta and Paku Alam still retain its political power with special status to this day. Anyway, with about 20k Rupiah (domestic tourists) you can explore this magnificent palace and learn its history and culture while being guided by a tour guide. It's worth a shot.

We had such a beautiful breakfast at Pracima Tuin before deciding to scrolling around Mangkunegaran. Cost us IDR 30.000 for the ticket each person. And pay the guide as you wish. From all parts of the building, we’re amazed by the dining area. The energy is legit. Undeniably pleasant! A good place to get some insight about the history of Mangkunegaran itself. Along with Yogyakarta, Pakualaman, and Surakarta!

My first time ever to visit this Mangkunegaran Palace in Surakarta. It was on Dec 31, 2023 around 1-2 PM. Such a great experience, yes indeed. Beautiful palace with good maintenance of old and ancient properties of the kingdom of Kadipaten Mangkunegaran. Guided by young female staff who was really smart and detailed in explaining every aspect of the palace and all the stories and history behind. It was not expected that we can visit and see quite many part of the rooms of the palace but of course not for the living area of Kanjeng Gusti Pangeran Adipati Arya Mangkunegara X. I think it is good lesson that all young generations must know and take lessom about one of the kingdom histories of Indonesia and do spare time to visit such this historical beautiful palace of Pura Mangkunegaran which is very worth to visit. Thank you Pura Mangkunegaran!

The right place if you want to learn about Mangkunegaran and it's roots. They provide guides; very friendly, helpful, and educated ones. There are some prohibition on what clothes to wear or which area you shouldn't wander. It's a palace after all. One thing you might find it common is about the cleanliness in the parking area. Too many trash, not enough trash-can. Not sure if there's also not enough cleaning staff or they're just non-existent.

For history lovers, you will enjoy the short tour with the right guide. It only cost you 50k IDR, which I think worth every penny to hear the story about the palace. I don't have much pictures here as I was too immersed with the stories.

A palace in Surakarta. There's two palace here. And both were stunning. The size of the land, building, and history behind them was fascinating. There's a guide which will guide and tell you the history while roaming around. In certain areas, photography was prohibited due to the rareness of the object displayed there. In the end of the visit, you can buy some souvenirs too.. From batik to handcrafted fine silver arts was sold here..

Instagram and the website stated the place to open at 09.00 therefore I wandered some place else until that time. Turned out we could buy tickets and enter from 08.30 (which would really help for me who need to go to the airport right after). All entries must be guided and loved the tour that tells you about the royal family. Rushed to the airport afterwards so didn't have the chance to try the restaurant. Hopefully next time!

Not only the place is well maintained, but it also has good tour management. Moreover, we got the best tour guide! He casually and excitedly explained the history of the rooms, cultures, etc., And he was responsively answering all questions, very well-informed! And we were lucky to catch a traditional performance, they said it is only available on particular days, one of them including Wednesday. Go there before 12 pm to catch the performance.

Interesting historic place. But the main attraction is the Restaurant Pracimasana, a beautiful location serving authentic central javanese food. The building and the surrounding Park were recently renovated

Must visit place for tourist. The palace offered a really good tour for cheap price of 20k for local, and around 100k for international tourist. It was interesting and quite informative. But if you are more into the experience i suggest to reserve to eat at their palace restaurant called Pracima, their foods are so good and the vibe are so immaculate.

Beautiful palace, makes you feel thrown back to the 19th century because of the palace tour. Now the government of surakarta has already revitalized the palace and now its more beautiful than ever.

I am in love with this palace. You can visit almost all place, even inside the palace, and view many royal collections, including keris (traditional weapon), gold, rings, paintings, medallions, Hinduism tools, etc. Although there are still private room, but you still have a lot of things to see. Giving tips to your guide is highly recommended.

A great spot to visit and learn about the royal family of Solo. While still not really to the standard of most museums, this palace is much better preserved and more open than the one in Jogja. The lady who did my tour was great- super friendly and happy to answer questions. Tip- they do traditional gamelan and dances almost every afternoon. Call ahead to check on timing. It's a nice plus and doesn't cost you anything.

First time to Solo and I tried to visit Mangkunegaran Palace, and I must say its splendid! It took a while to queue in the front desk (btw it cost me 30k / person to get in, local price) only because they need to regroup the visitors into 10 person group because we need a guide to enter the palace. It’s a brilliant idea, as we can walk through our way with a guide and learn about its amazing history. Lots of beautiful places to visit and some of them doesn’t allow you to take pictures or videos, and boy, the ambience of those places feels indeed very different, feels very sacred. You could see many historic collections such as jewelleries, keris and many more. I would recommended it, totally worth it and there are so many beautiful photo spots.

  • 5/5 bintan78 1 year ago on Google
the royal palace is well maintained but some parts need urgent rehabilitation to bring it back to its former glory. coming here and joined the tour is a great way to improve knowledge on javanese history especially about the royal houses in central java and marvel at the colonial architecture and the beauty of their craftsmanships. the tour is short but quite enjoyable.

An underrated spot in Surakarta, Mangkunegaran palace offer great mix of Javanese and European Culture. The guide are very helpful, i'd recommend every guest should give them a tip because the service are top notch.

Vibesnya Jawa + ada European vibes touch nya juga. Bersihhhh, terawat. The royal family is generous enough to allow us to enter even the private eating room and the park (of course when there's no internal/family events)
