When you visit Solo and want to try local food, this place is recommended. They have many delicious local dishes that you should try. Their signature dish is Selat Solo, but others are also yummy for me. Went here with a friend last month and tried Sup Matahari and Selat Solo Daging Cacah. Super yummy and very cheap! We only paid 25K for both dishes plus a glass of sweet hot tea. All food is under 15K but the taste is excellent. Both dishes have a light and super tasty broth, which linger in your mouth. But other dishes are a must try too! Even they have local snacks that will not disappoint you. Try them out! This place is located near to Stasiun Balapan, about 500m to the right direction. Take a becak and ask the driver to drop you there. You just need to pay 10K for this kind of transportation. Lunchtime is their busiest time so please come at least before 10 am because after that you will have to wait for a chair! There is always a long queue and crowd of people craving for their foods. So you must be prepared to wait. The service is average, not that fast but not that slow too. It is reasonable because they need to prepare a dish with many fillings before it’s ready. There are many small set of tables and chairs to enjoy your favorite food here. But the parking lot is very limited. Better to use your motorcycle or public transportation to come here.

This is the Selat Solo which I think is the most delicious in Surakarta. The sauce is not too runny, making this food taste delicious. besides strait solo, the macaroni soup is also very good! me and my friends love it. Side dishes such as fried foods are also delicious and what I like the most is ths Sosis Solo. The price is also very affordable for a well-known restaurant class. Unfortunately, the waiters are a bit less friendly, keep improving the quality of service.

A heaven for delicious Solo salad (coloquially "selat Solo"). This place at Jl. Hasanudin in Punggawan, Banjarsari District, Surakarta City, Central Java Province is the main outlet of the popular Selat Vien's food chain. A large and cozy place with nice decorations, sparkly clean toilets and spacious musholla (moslem prayer place). I and my wife enjoyed a great lunch here with a chopped beef salad (5/5), a so-called sun soup (4/5) and two hot teas (5/5). An efficient self-service system: customers must come to one of two counters to order, pay and bring the foods and drinks themselves. Crowded at lunch time.

Despite the crowd and long queue, I'd say this was one of the places in Solo I'd visit again. Their selat solo is so refreshing. I truly love the taste of the soup completed with complete fillings. And on top of all, the menu prices are extremely cheap!

Despite the usual long queue, it's still worth to experience. Ordered the double-meat Selat, loved the taste, even the sauce is a bit too sweet and less-spicy.

Great efficient service!! Fast service, less contact with crew, hands free wastafels. For dishes itself, taste great, salad, sup manten, sup matahari, even the ice tea for gods sake! It's not pricey at all, for a famous place, i can call it cheap. A must try list when you are at Solo area.

IMHO, for Selat Solo cuisine, Vien's has a good standard. Selat Solo has a admiring sweet taste, then the other menu like Sop Matahari, Sop Galantin, Soto, etc has an amazing seasoning. You can order ahead without reservation. There's two order counter, and it's very crowded in 10am to 12. The price is very cheap, for example Sop Matahari is Rp 10000 (or less than $1). And you pay when you order. For consideration, It's located not far from Solo Balapan Railway Station or if you stay at the near hotels such as Pose In Hotel, Sahid Jaya Hotel or Loji Hotel. Those place was small but now they upgrade it larger.

Have to say that the most compelling thing about this place is its pricing policy. It’s cheap to eat here while still maintaining the quality aspect of the foods, especially the taste. We ordered Selat Solo (basically a localized hollandse biefstuk with minced meat instead) which was pretty good, shredded cucumber in lime and melon syrup drink I forgot the name, which exceptionally refreshing, and some condiments that didn’t fail to do their jobs. We visited the place at lunch time and it’s fully crowded, and it was harder to bring our order to the table, yes it was self service here. Other things about the place are it’s easy to find and has very limited parking space. Overall recommended.

An overly crowded place, probably pretty famous around the area, but I won’t be back. The food actually is just okay. But I don’t really like it either. The selat solo has too much broth and just very sweet, it has 2 piece of meat ( I had selat iga) and potato and veggies. The meat itself is not bad but as I say it taste very sweet to my liking. And even though they have drink menu, you actually can’t order them. They only have drink choices premade in cups on the table. Like I said maybe because its just too crowded, its hard to find a table, and oh you have to carry your own food to your table, so its a self service. The only good thing in this place is it is cheap.

one of most-wanted cuisine when visiting solo sorry to say that the selat daging is just mediocre, so does the sup matahari dont feel comfy bcause they dont maintain the cleanliness of dining area the platting is bad, not appetizing but they maintain the cleanliness for the restroom and mushola, which is good

Selat is a kind of soup that consists of boiled eggs, minced beef, fried potatoes, carrots, beans, pickles, and lettuce, served with a savory and sweet sauce made from spices and coconut milk. Selat is also known as Javanese steak because of its similarity to the Western dish. The taste of selat is rich and complex, with a balance of sweetness, saltiness, sourness, and spiciness. The sauce is thick and creamy, coating the meat and vegetables with a delicious flavor. The meat is tender and juicy, the eggs are soft and smooth, the potatoes are crispy and fluffy, and the vegetables are fresh and crunchy. The pickles add a tangy contrast to the richness of the dish, while the lettuce provides a refreshing touch.

I came only 30 minutes after its opening hours and there was queue already. You came here, you order, you pay, and then wait for your food. Luckily the food comes rather quickly, unless if you order for groups and with various menu. The price is very affordable. AND the taste of Selat Solo broth is fresh and yummy. I didn't try other menu though but they are all affordable

A must try local food in Solo. Close to Balapan Train Station too. Just 5 minutes walking. Price was good. Clean area, easy to find, and easy to parking too. Fast service. Come. Order. Pay. Enjoy the food. Go. They serve some traditional snack too. The lumpia Solo was nice. Different with typical lumpia in Jogja.

Authentic food from solo, this place is renowned for its Selat solo. The place has no AC so it's a bit hot. Most of the time, there is classic javanese live music accompanying you. They offer 2 separate cashiers for dine in and take away that makes the service so quick. Try to order watermelon juice while the weather is hot. It is extremely refreshing! The toilet wasn't really comfortable, but they also had a prayer room.

Located near Solo Mbalapan Train Station. With very cheap price, you can easily find Solonese authentic culinary. This was my option beside Kusuma Sari Restaurant

Still one of the delicious solo cuisine after all, Selat Solo, Bestik, Timlo an the Fritters always be my favorite for the brunch, lunch and also dinner. Every selection of the food they served always delicious, the cooking spices is just right not overwhelmed at all. There’s a lot of Bestik, Selat, Timlo and another solo cuisine seller, but i prefer Selat Vien’s. Suit in my palate very well. Overall : 4,8 / 5,0

Mandatory food when going to Solo. The place is near Solo Balapan Station. Parking is quite spacious. The place is spacious and clean. Fast service, so when we first came, we ordered immediately, after that we paid, after that we waited for the food to be ready and brought by ourselves while looking for a seat. It tastes good. I've tried the manten soup & salat solo, and I think they're all delicious. There are also various kinds of "jajanan pasar". Recommended to try!

The best selat solo so far for me! Really fresh, juicy, good portion, comes with very affordable price! I always visit here everytime I touched down in solo. They also serve other traditional variant menu such as sup matahari, sup galantin, timlo, stup, and traditional various snack as well, very worth to try!

Selat Solo is one of the most bizarre breakfast menu I've ever tried in my life. It consists of vegetables that one usually put to accompany a steak, like carrots, potatoes, and beans, but instead of steak, this one uses a meatball and a boiled egg as the main course on the plate. All those food are covered with a sauce, the one that you can find on a steak, but the sauce is served more like a soup. The taste? It's nice and refreshing. Other than Selat, this place also offers another kind of food such as porridge, Soto, and Soup.
