Visited Mar 2022. I don't want to repeat what others have already written. There are turtles in the water. I had to sit without moving for more than half an hour until one of them came and sat on the lowermost step (no one else was around). I requested the owner of one of the houses at the rear of the vav to allow me into their 'backyard' so that I could see the rear of the vav. Normally it's not possible to see or get to the rear because the houses are so close to the vav. Worth a visit. See pics. Most prob you'll have the place to yourself. I must mention that of all the places I've been to in Gujarat, the people of Wadhwan were the most friendly and helpful.

Located in Wadhwan town of Surendranagar district, Gujarat. Stepwell is 55 Meters long, come under State Government protected monuments, but not protected by government. Locals and local body should protect our old monument. Nice place, according to old stories: Stepwell was dressed out for 12 years, prince and his wife sacrificed their lives for welfare of people. Good example of our architectural knowledge compared to modern architecture. Must visit place

A wonderful heritage that was cleaned up about a decade back. Sad to see it in a dilapidated and dirty condition.

The place is cool and cosy with nice strong architecture considering how old this monument is. I think the government should do something to improve it's condition as far as tourism is concerned.

Google Maps is totally incorrect in small towns. It misleads you so asking locals is better. Wadhvan is a place where there's almost no proper dining facilities except at Swaminarayan Mandir. Madha Vav is formidable stepwell with most of its lower storeyes submerged in water. It was built in late 13th century. Wadhvan is a walled city with very narrow streets so cars can hardly pass.

Madha vav is a nice place to visit where we can see antique art and water is clear as well. Yes there is algae and water plants inside but water is clear and nice. There are fishes and turtle in water. Not a kind of place where you see so much of people or entertainment. Silent place for nature and history lovers.

It's an ancient place but cleanness is the main concern. Polythin's and Garbage are thrown here and there. Government should take some action to maintain cleanliness of this place.
