Only good enough if you want to get drunk and pass out somewhere. Came here because of work in the area just to find out the kitchen won't even be open until 8 am. Because I have to leave for work at 5 am I asked if I can leave a deposit or something to get access to the kitchen earlier just to have breakfast and grab my lunch out of the fridge but the French girl at the reception wasn't interested in finding a solution. Also, we wouldn't get our money back if we left earlier so would have paid a whole week for nothing. She said she would talk to the manager to find a solution but that's just the get you to leave her alone, no solution was provided. The rooms are dark, smelly, and dirty. The house next to the building looks directly into the rooms and bathrooms so you can't even leave the curtains open without being exposed. Edit: management called us into the office after our review without introducing themselves or saying what they wanted in the middle of the week. Trying to tell us that their procedure is to cancel the rest of our booked stay. We said we are leaving on our day off on Saturday because we can't pack our stuff and find a new place while working 12hour days just because they don't like our review especially because we asked to cancel our booking last Saturday and get a refund but they didn't want to do that but suddenly it is possible after the bad review. He was not happy about that trying to tell us that the hostel is so clean and nice and they have all those good reviews. We have been told by another guest that they offer free beer at the bar if you leave a good review. I don't know if this is true but would explain how this overpriced place has any good reviews.

A great hostel. In fact, it is a hostel that has a bar and lively people, but who respect the rest of the customers. Clean rooms and bathrooms, full kitchen with all kinds of utensil and clean. Friendly and respectful staff. There are always active people like ping pong, basketball, football, snooker etc. The only problem is that the kitchen opens late, around 8 am. What makes it difficult for those who want to eat or drink something before work or some morning activity. My stay was for 3 weeks.

The bed wasn’t uncomfortable, the room wasn’t too dirty and the location was convenient. The on-site bar is lacklustre and the pool is smaller than expected. That said, if a bed can be had for less than $30 then you’re getting decent value. I wouldn’t pay more than this however.

We had a large booking, and when we tried to check in they cancelled us and left us stranded. (We were looking after a passed out drunk person who wasn't staying with us; we only had her with us until we could get hold of her fam to get her. She would never have gone indoors. They threw us all out on the street, including the vulnerable girl, non of us local, on a Saturday evening. Their only saving grace was that one of the staff was sympathetic but couldn't help us directly, but gave us the name of a few other hostels to try, and which one was most likely to have the space. She was rad; the management/owner was not.)

Dirty, basic, overpriced - do not waste your money! After checking in to a double room last night, I would strongly advise you do not book this place. Having paid over £100 per night we were severely ripped off. The bed is tiny and uncomfortable, the curtain does not cover the window. The room is dirty and has clearly not been vacuumed or cleaned. The bathroom is also really dirty with black mould in the sink and the shower and wet towels on the floor. The shower curtain smells too. The toilet has no sink or soap in. The kitchen is also very basic and not clean. The room faces out to a main road and there is a bright street light outside, not covered by the thin small curtain. There is no hanging space in the room, and barely enough floor space to put any luggage in around the bed. There is 1 socket outlet in the room and one mirror in the shared bathroom which is not adequate for 2 people. The decor is really outdated and tired, I’d say the place needs a lick of paint but at this point you’d be better off pulling it down and starting again. Would not recommend, do not waste your money. I wouldn’t pay £100+ per night to stay somewhere like this, even £20 per night would be a rip off!

Absolutely disgusting!!! The staff were rude. Never in my life have I been treated the way I was there. One man on management referred to means " you people". I am am australian tax payer and they did not allow me to stay over a minor discrepancy. Neither staff were australian and had no intention of refunding my money. I payedb50 dollars to not be able to stay. No refund nothing. They mins u later me. And they also illegally sell alcohol from reception at 6 dollars per corona. Absolute grubs. Wish I could give them NO stars.

Sorry to say but was a disgusting place to stay. Paid $150 dollar just to find out disgusting small bed, bedsheet, pillows, living room, carpets; also there was other bloke in the same apartment in other room, didnt expect that. The hotel guy was decent, good and helpful but I would never recommend anyone to stay in this place, if you are looking for decent clean place to stay for the night. Couldnt sleep all night well.

Booked here as it advertised as having parking. Showed up early and all the 3 parking spaces were taken. Receptionist was rude and unhelpful. We ended up not staying here.

It’s a very old, basic and dusty place. The staff is fine, they’re trying their best but I wouldn’t stay again. The beds are very short, not very comfortable for adults. The curtains aren’t covering the windows and I experienced a lot nuisance from party’s given in the hostel till midnight. Not very comfortable.

Used to be called surfside paradise backpackers resort and now the name has been changed to maxmee resort. But it is still confusing as the name I booked is surfside paradise backpackers resort and it turned out it is this place. There are a lot of facilities inside. Ping Pong, basketball ring, volleyball, pool(which was broken when I was there). Close to the surfers paradise coastline. Just less than 10 minutes walking. They have a bar which has happy hours during 5-7PM which the beer costs you 6aud per bottle. The staff are friendly. The room is alright. It's considered not bad for a backpacker hostel. Because it is a backpacker hostel which they host 18+ travelers, you will randomly bump into different travelers that sometimes will do crazy stuff. Overall it is not bad.

Save yourself unless you’re lookig for absolute bottom of the barrel accomodation. They say they have a noise curfew but we were kept up until 1am by screeching karaoke from the hostel bar. Staff do nothing to stop it. We paid $200 for a private room because everywhere else was booked this Saturday night. The room was big enough for a bed and maybe a metre of space on each side. No furniture other than a bed. Literally laughed in disbelief. On the app it appears you get the apartment for that price but it wasn’t until we arrived that they casually slipped in that the apartment is shared and we only got the tiny little room to ourselves. Terrible mattress that you can feel the springs through and is essentially impossible to sleep on. Two old flat pillows. It would be worth about $120 max I would say. Staff are clearly miserable. The only exception was the guy who showed us to our room and helped us out with a couple things…he was the only nice vibe in the whole place. The only positive is the location. Even then there is nothing around unless you walk for ten minutes. The management needs to seriously put in some effort or lower their prices if they want to make any money in future. Also, don’t say there is a curfew unless it’s actually enforced. Some of us actually pay to have a place to sleep. It’s the Gold Coast, you don’t have to party at the hostel. Go out.

It's a fair price, budget hostel accommodation close to Broadbeach. They have a noise curfew from 10pm to 7am so not too rowdy late at night. Make sure you bring cash for deposit, but there is an ATM close by too if you forget.

Very good atmosphere, activities almost everyday, rooms and bathrooms are cleaned everyday by the very friendly staff. Good place to stay and socialise! Location is also great as it is very close to the Centre of Surfers Paradise. I recommend this resort, especially for social people.

We stayed in the twin room with shared bath and kitchen. Had no issues with noise and rooms were clean. The staff are so lovely and attentive, creating a great relaxed and safe atmosphere. Five minutes walk from the beach and close to the shops.

Budget accommodation with private and dorm rooms. We were in a private room that shares a communal living / kitchen area and bathroom with another unit. We had no problems at all with noise. Bar on site. Location was decent with a walk up to the main strip 20mins away

Very good stay. Smelled bad due to people smoking. Not the hostel’s fault but impacted the stay for us.

Perfect stay for a solo traveler. i came to maxmee when travelling the East coast of Australia and they made me feel so warm and welcoming, the staff and manager were very helpful with anything I could have asked for. Enjoyed the pool, nice and large although a little cold with the time of year. So close to the beach and tram stations, you even have a Coles Express across the road. Would recommend

I stayed in the dorms room. It was clean and nice. The location is good, right next to the tram station. What wasn’t good was the fact that we could have heard everything from the road, motorbikes, trams arriving ect. It was really hard to sleep because of that and because people Were talking and yelling outside of the room until late at night. Moreover, the WIFI was bad, couldn’t use it most of my stay here. In addition, the kitchen was very dirty, lots of flys all over the place.

Amazing people, great staff - they are all very cool people. Basketball, Ping Pong, chess and Volleyball kept everybody busy - I even learned some Poi.

Good place to have a stay, a lot of international people from around the world. Kitchen could be better, but very decent. They have a pool and volleyball court and basketball hoop, also pool(need to pay 3$) and free table tennis.

staff is friendly, location is good, price is okay. But the cleanliness of the room was really poor. there was mould in the bath, food that has gone bad beneath my bed, and stains on the sheets. wondered why I felt sick during my stay, but now that I moved out I'm feeling good again!

I am happy with the accommodation, safe and convenience to travel by tram. Staffs were super friendly and helpful, made me feel nice and welcome. Worth the money to spend, good value, good vibe. Recommend for single female travelers. The location is among the 3-5 stars hotels, just cheaper and smaller. If you are on the budget and want a nice place to sleep and cook your own food, this place can be perfect for you👍. Almost forgot, 5 minutes walk to the famous beach.

Great place but they didn't refund my money booked a week then ended up staying for a night. I asked them why and they said company policy 😒

I know the GC was busy but $150 a night for this place was outrageously overpriced. I'd have been better off sleeping in my car. Unless you're a backpacker go elsewhere.

All over it was fine for the price but, The Staff was not the friendliest. The shower in our room wasnt working on hot temperature. The Hostel had a weird vibe. I didnt really felt comfortable there.

Originally was going to stay at this hostel for a few days (max 1 week), but ended up staying for over a month as I loved it that much. Great facilities, there’s a swimming pool, tennis court, basketball, TV room (with Netflix) and bar. This hostel could suit almost anyone whether your here to party or just vibe out in the TV room. Rooms are spacious, beds are super comfy (pre made) and there’s an en-suite with a toilet and shower.

Could not get through to reception on the phone to notify I would be checking in late. I tried to call 5 times and 2 numbers. When I got there they said they where expecting me earlier and didn't know why I couldn't get through on the phone Room smelt like vomit My light didn't work in my room Heard yelling and swearing every hour, I didn't feel safe Teaches me for not reading reviews before I book things. Seems like up to a couple of months ago they didn't even accommodate Australians. Needless to say I checked out a night early

Good service. Nice staff. Breakfast is simple but good quality. Bed covers are alittle bit dirty. Very big and clean room with 90bucks per night. No toothpaste, shampoo or shower gel. Parking lot is available

Last minute booking, these guys were great! For my 1st experience in a backpackers I was impressed. A key & towel deposit is all I needed. I was on a conference so I really only needed to sleep here & not much of it I did, but anywho. The staff were wonderful, helpful & very friendly. Beds were foam mattresses but the frames were reinforced. The only thing I would've really liked was a fan or the AC to be controlled in the room & not the office during certain hrs, plus the bathroom door handle needed work. I'd prob stay again yes.
